You gotta live better than you were though
🧙 WHO: Gokudera and YOU
⚔️️ WHAT: August catch-all! OTA
🕒 WHEN: August
🗺️ WHERE: New Camelot (predominantly)
⚠️ WARNINGS: Language, violence, drugs, mentions of past trauma: self-immolation, slavery
I. Healing Circle After Party
Despite most of his friends helping him, Gokudera has felt very alone since he learned of Yamamoto's absence. It's not the first time he's lost someone he's cared about. He's not being loud about his heartbreak and has seen on the network that others have lost some people important to them as well. But how often do you lose six different versions of your same friend/rival from home?
Gokudera feels a bit numb, and the strangulation he faced before is healed, but... still, there's pain. It feels like it never goes away, and on his own self-reflection, he realizes it's because he's focusing on it. He needs to use his head before his collar gets rid of it, and he can't problem-solve when it feels like his heart aches more now than it ever has before.
He collects yarrow and lemon balm, enjoying the smell and seeming almost to meditate while he gathers herbs. Once he's done, he's looking about for someone to sit with. There is no visible injury on the young man, and whatever he's going through, he doesn't want to talk about it. He'd rather just get on with the meditative healing.
Even burning the herbs seems somewhat traumatic, and so he closes his eyes and takes a steady breath, wondering why and how he suddenly became so wary of flames. The first thing he will share is fear and pain, a sinking feeling starting from the fingers and winding up the muscle of arms and causing a slight bit of panic. Sorry for sharing, but at least no one has to listen to him talk about why an explosives expert is scared of fire, right?
II. Crystal Mushroom
Gokudera gets on the quest board regularly (it's how he makes most of his money, in fact). Some manual labor feels nice, and he enjoys getting his hands dirty, literally, if only to focus on something he feels he has control over. Cleaning is one thing.
Taking care of a drug-dealer's source is another.
But still, work he can do. Gokudera's out to find Wendy, and he's dressed the part of the mafioso he is. The teen's donned a suit and he's come with the intent to threaten with dynamite, or explain that Wendy might find herself with some bad luck. If anyone stops him on his way to find her, he'll be honest.
He's going to beat up some drug-dealer. That's all they need to know. Gonna take out some aggression. Want to supervise? Help him? Hold him back? Talk him out of it?
III. Don't Treep, Man
Gokudera can be found repairing fences, looking out for fairy nests in the farm land, and helping to clean up the orchards. He has no green magic, but it's moments like these that he wish he did. The boy's very eager to be close to real, live trees. Too many years trapped in worlds where everything was either a hologram, or irradiated has him grateful to sit on fertile soil while he takes a hammer to a fence. The sun might be beating down on him a little too hard, burning at his skin, and he may appreciate someone helping him out. The fairies in the area seem to be enjoying his company, though, and are a fun distraction.]
I don't suppose any of you have tips for staying cool?
[The faeries, of course, don't respond, but just keep on gathering blades of grass and taking them back to their nest. Gokudera offers one a nail, looks it over, and then gets up to go make a sort of laundry line by pushing two into the dirt by their nest, tying a string about them, and then leaving a few sweets.]
Don't let the ants get to them, now...
[Few people have seen how tender the boy is towards the fae, and despite what he's been through, he continues to offer gifts, smiles, and any help he can.]
IV. Animal Mage Hunt - Platina Faun
[It's been... an odd couple weeks, and now, for some reason, he's woken up without his normal lower half. Gokudera's not keen on leaving the house, but he has to attend classes, has to escort the Tenth to them. His current transformation is making going out in public especially difficult. He can't wear pants, because he can't fit them past his new set of legs, and his pet leopard keeps looking at him oddly, so he can't stay inside, either. Gokudera can be found napping by the training grounds, eager to spar with anyone who wants a new challenge, or he can be found moving about the forest, foraging for food and stones.
He's keeping to himself, but can also be found walking about the streets of New Camelot, just... trying to run errands as if his cloven footsteps weren't loudly announcing his new features. His bigger concern is whether or not he'll change back. If he does, hopefully it will be in the privacy of his own home, where being without pants is at least acceptable.
Oh well, at least the little stubby horns popping out through his silver hair are cute.]

When he sits down with Gokudera, having beelined towards him as soon as he saw him, he has cinnamon and apple blossoms to offer (he thinks the latter are blooming out of season, but... well, it's Avalon). Don't mind his bull traits, Gokudera, he's already been hit by the animal spell and is pretty much just taking it in stride. He's not happy to still see the damn collar on Gokudera, but they both knew it wouldn't be easy to get rid of.
As they burn their herbs and the smoke surrounds them he swiftly gets hit by what the teenager across from him is feeling, and he's not at all prepared for it, so his eyes go wide for a moment before he steadies himself to withstand the decidedly unpleasant sensation travelling up his arms. They've been instructed not to speak, so he changes the loose hand-hold between them into a proper, solid grasp, trying to reassure him. What happened to him? Gokudera may be able to sense his concern for him.]
no subject
The more smoke, the more companionship, the easier it is to breathe, to accept that he’s at fault for how he feels. It’s easier to be in control when no one else is to blame. He looks on at the smoke trailing off the herbs, and his hand gives a tentative squeeze in Hijikata’s grasp, almost as if in reassurance.
Now that the fear is ebbing, fading into acceptance, there is something else that is still unpleasant (aren’t all of his injuries that need to be addressed?), and it may just start as weight.
It’s loss, and a sense of betrayal.
Aurora had told him to not deny his feelings, so he’s just going to feel them. Still, ever shy, he drops his head to shadow his expression.
This sucks. He won’t ever say, but he feels a sort of reliance on Hijikata, a respect he doesn’t usually harbor. It’s embarrassing to be seen like this.]
no subject
In a way it's easier to communicate without speaking, because Hijikata often struggles to find the right words, or even just kind words. He lightly strokes Gokudera's hands with his thumbs without loosening his grasp, just for a moment, wanting to add a sense of comfort to the reassurance. It's good that Gokudera doesn't suppress his feelings; that'd only lead down a bad path. Hijikata would know.
The sense of loss is familiar... there's Mitsuba, who was so frail and died before her time, and of course Hijikata lost subordinates ever so often, but those were equally dedicated to the Shinsengumi's cause as him and fought until the end. Dealing with the losses on these strange in-between worlds is more confusing. While Hijikata didn't lose the same person 6 times over there's more than one cherished friend he first got to know on Prismatica, was reunited with on Avalon, and then separated from again. But that's the same for all of them, isn't it? Still, it doesn't get any easier.
The feeling of betrayal is one Hijikata is less familiar with. Back home the Shinsengumi was once betrayed by one of its own members, Itou, who managed to split off a faction and tried to kill Commander Kondou, but Hijikata never took that personally. He never liked Itou to begin with, so he frankly welcomed the justification to take him out. How was Gokudera betrayed? He doesn't prod, though, and simply lets him work his way through his feelings.
He can sense that Gokudera, in this moment, looks at him as a big brother, a guardian, a senpai, something along those lines, and he does his utmost to convey his readiness to accept that role. He, too, was once a teenage delinquent, and when Kondou entered his life it helped him so much. He's not as kind of a person as Kondou, but if he's good enough for Gokudera, then he'll do his best for him.]
no subject
It's his own fault for being hurt, he thinks. He shouldn't have let himself get so happy. Gokudera should have known that everything would balance out, and so a swing in the direction of his good fortune on another world made the crash back in Avalon that much worse.
But it's all just becoming a low level frustration the more he accepts that he can't change any of how he feels. It's just going to happen, and the point of this meditation is to heal. He won't if he stays hung up on every roadblock and gets in the way of his own happiness here.
Expression hidden, he's not looking at his companion so much as feeling that the weight on his shoulders is lifting. Hijikata is... accepting of his feelings, and this isn't any way of sharing that makes the teen feel as vulnerable. It's easier to just let it out, to acknowledge and move on. He takes a few more slow, deep breaths and his grip softens at the rub of the other man's thumb.
Then he's looking at Hijikata before moving to stand, to break that connection and walk away. He pulls out his cigarettes, taps the box against his palm, pulls one out and offers to the other before nodding his head to the side, inviting him to join him in a walk and a smoke. They can talk, if the other wants. Gokudera has questions of his own.]
no subject
When Gokudera breaks contact it signals the end of the meditation. Hijikata felt the boy's emotions get less and less intense, like a storm gradually calming down, and he takes that as a good sign, but he still easily accepts the unspoken offer to walk with him in the gardens. He now knows that Gokudera has his own fire magic, but he offers his little flame regardless. He'll let him speak first, wanting to give him a chance to order his thought a little beforehand if he needs to.]

Effectively for now, what this means is that Ritsuka is just slowly wandering through her own personal exploration of the city, doing her best not to seem too much like a tourist. (She's not, technically, right? They're all pretty firmly stuck here for now, as far as she can tell.) At this point, she can recognize most of the buildings immediately around the inn, but also... she's a little lost at this point. And she's dragging her feet on texting the people she knows are around to ask for help--she's gotta be able to handle herself, too--so instead, she turns towards the newcomer to hopefully ask him for directions before she catches sight of the horns. ]
Hey-- ah.
[ Oh no. They are cute. She takes a few seconds to blink rapidly, then clears her throat. ]
Uh. Sorry to bother you, I'm, uh, kinda sorta really lost right now...
no subject
Most people leave him alone. He's a fan of keeping to himself, after all, and his grumpy demeanor comes in handy. But her awkward approach is unusual. Gokudera turns to face her fully, shouldering a knitted bag he'd been intending to fill with some groceries and anything else he would decide to buy at the bazaar.]
Where a-a-are you trying to go? [He bleats, clears his own throat and then looks about. The inn, maybe? Does she need an escort back? Is she trying to find any certain place in particular? At least the weather isn't too bad.]
no subject
She manages to stop herself, sucking in a quick breath and straightening up a little. It's not even the horns that are the most startling thing, but (most of) the other people she knows who have the whole kemonomimi thing are very--well. They're all deliberately going for a certain aesthetic. There's a difference between fox-girls and a man with deer legs and horns. (Are they from a deer? Maybe a goat?? She doesn't know enough about animals! She can only guess!) ]
Sorry! Back to the inn, please. I got a little turned around somewhere.
[ Don't ask him about his feet! Ritsuka! That's rude!! ]
As long as I know the right direction to go, I'll probably be okay. I wanted to go check that forest out, but, uh... it was further away than I thought...
[ At least, it is when you should theoretically be taking it easy. ]
no subject
Follow me.
[Said over his shoulder before she mentions the forest. He stops and rolls his eyes.]
Which is it? The forest, or the inn?
[It probably doesn't seem it, because he just comes across as grumpy, but he's far more interested in the forest. Whatever, it's her call. He has nothing better to do at the moment. She can ask whatever she'd like. There's no guarantee he'll answer her, but she can always shoot her shot. It depends also on how she asks.]
no subject
[ She was going to say the inn, because she's been wandering around for the better part of the morning, and she's tired, but that is precisely the moment where her stomach makes a drawn-out gurgling sound.
Ah. Hm. She slept through the complimentary breakfast that morning, and she's still Pretty Damn Broke for now! Her face goes red as her hair for a moment, and she rubs the back of her neck. Oh boy. Cool! Cool and great. ]
--forest... for now.
[ She's not the best camper, and she's certainly not prepared to completely rough it, but you don't spend almost four years with Robin Hood hanging around in your everyday life without learning some things about foraging from him. There's no guarantee that anything she'll find in the forest will be something she recognizes, but she has a little more faith in that than making eyes at a food vendor and hoping someone will take pity on her and slip her a freebie snack. ]

[Morgan shouts out to give plenty of warning, because he's got three large beams for the fence and he doesn't want to stop. One over each shoulder and one in the air behind him. Hydra heads poke out of his pocket as well, with three of them teaming up to carry a long loop of rope to tie it all up.]
Don't wanna hurt any little guys. Or bigger ones!
no subject
[Gokudera shoos Morgan with his hand and then blinks on at seeing how the familiar is helping the other. He gives a gentle tut and stands up, casting a barrier around the nest. While stepping aside, he points down at what he's done in the hopes Morgan will see and reroute a bit away in his path.
He hasn't seen Morgan in a while, since the doppelganger incident. Part of him wonders how that all turned out and he gets up to fetch a lemonade, points at where the pitcher is.]
Want one?
[They can take a break and catch up?]

[Gokudera pours out a cup and offers it to Morgan while looking over at that beam. Looks heavy! The bomber drinks from his own cup and moves, glancing about for somewhere they can sit in shade for a short break.]

I. Let's start this off with a bang... and angst (and quick CR building) CW: Language
Ok so that guy, Harry, she had met wasn't that bad. Her familiar, a book called a tsukumogami that had come to life after a hundred years... apparently, floats behind her, thankfully keeping its mouth shut.
In any case, she thought she was alone until one of the wizards bumps into her and she steps backwards into the exact circle with Gokudere. She's about to open her mouth to tell the woman off when the wizard puts a hand over Kainé's mouth and makes a shushing gesture.]
It's important that you stay silent. You must complete the ritual if you want to leave the circle.
[The woman instructs Kainé and she shoots a glare at her but stays silent. Magic wasn't something you fucked with. In her world, only Shades could use it if that was any indicator. She turns to her new partner who had just started burning herbs and sat down. Then she gave him a look expressing, okay, what now, but refrains from making any noise.
After looking around at other participants, Kainé holds up her hands to meet her partner's
The smoke swirls around them and she starts to feel his fear and pain, her eyes widen and her mouth hangs slightly agape. She doesn't know why she's sensing someone else's emotions (because they're certainly not hers), but, again, she doesn't make any noise.
She wants to get out of here after all. Even if she'd know a bit more about a stranger than she thought she would so soon in this place once she does.
From Kainé, whether she is aware of it or not, Gokudera would get the storm of emotions that she is; sadness, pain and a sense that she's missing something or someone very important.
Next comes loneliness, a deep self-hatred and self-loathing that's always there, lurking below the surface of her being at all times.
She blinks and tilts her head a little at her partner, curious why she's feeling these strange things from him. It has to be him.]
no subject
She doesn't look like she wants to be here, or to help, but she settles in. Maybe a bit aggravated, and he feels something from her so similar to his own feelings that it's almost like they're echoing, sharing and amplifying together.
But he isn't going to evade.
He's been suffering for years and he's so tired of it. Gokudera wants to feel better, to let it out. At the loneliness, his hand curls around hers as if in reassurance. Gokudera is still quiet, and doesn't know her, but that doesn't mean he won't help. He can't dump everything on her and expect it to just... work out. This has to be a combined effort.
Gokudera takes a slow, deep breath and closes his eyes, focusing on dropping his feelings as if cutting loose weights and binds. If Kainé is still watching him, she may notice that the strange collar about his neck blinks, or she may not. Then, there is literal pain, and Gokudera's hand flexes in hers.]
Welp, did it say what happens if you break the silence?
Maybe... maybe she should give this an honest try... his feelings are so similar to her own. She's tired of the world and everyone in it, but if she can help someone like herself to let go of their own pain...
She curls her own fingers as well and starts to close her eyes when the blinking light catches her attention.
Then his hands flex in hers. He's in obvious pain.
Kainé stands abruptly, anger evident in her expression.]
Hey! What the fuck is this bullshit? Whatever the hell you guys are doing to him you better stop it right the fuck now!
I'm assuming that the healing stops?
Despite the pain, Gokudera is quiet. It's typical for him and inconsistent in how bad it is, how often it happens, and why.
Her sudden anger startles him and he looks scared, though she probably can only see instead of feel that.
Obviously, other mages doing their own healing magic are disturbed by her outburst and they look over, some with aggravation and others with concern. Gokudera flushes and gets up to leave because wow that's a lot of attention suddenly on him. Collar still firing off pain through his entire body, he moves swiftly out of the garden to sit on a stone bench in a neighboring alcove. Gokudera's hoping that some calm will help the pain stop, but it doesn't, and he's gritting his teeth, bowing forward and giving a soft groan against the feeling. Why now?!]

Besides, it was interesting to her that Gokudera thought she was a better fit for such a job, something that Zuko would 100% be opposed to should he ever find out the purpose behind this get-together. That alone made it worth it. Almost.
She's early when she shows up to their meeting place, unsurprisingly (early is on time and on time is late), crossing her arms over her chest as she musters up the most annoyed face she can while waiting for her not-friend. The princess had pulled her hair back into its signature bun, slipping into a black lace-up corset crop top and matching high-waisted jeans, dark boots up to her knees-- thankful for it when she spots Gokudera approaching done-up more than she'd seen him before. It almost felt like some sort of bizarro date. ]
Blood is incredibly difficult to wash out of things, I've been told.

wanthave anyone aside from her brother. It's not cool that there are so many people against her. She's been a bitch to him, but whatever, he's a bitchy person in general. Takes one to know one.As far as his outfit is concerned, this is so far from date attire for him. This is work clothes. Date clothes are comfortable and are meant to come off easily, or at least used to express a certain level of openness, which is hard earned from anyone who wants to date him.]
Good thing I know how to stage accidents.
[He lights a cigarette and starts their walk to Wendy's house.]
I'm going to create an illusion to hide my real face. Want the same, or do you not care?
I
Over his time at UA and through other locations now, Katsuki has matured enough to at least recognize that he does have shit to work through. But that's his shit, no one else's. That's why the whole "partner" thing throws him off. Since when is this going to be some kind of group thing? If it's going to be like that, shouldn't he do it with someone that will actually benefit from it? Maybe someone from his own world.
He's about ready to just drop everything he's collected and leave. No one's had the courage to tell him they'd be sharing emotions as well. Right now it's just convincing him to sit down and just do it.
Which apparently is being done by one of the people hosting this. She is definitely not allowing Bakugou to back out at this point. Leading him to the circle, she forces him to take a seat next to Gokudera. ]
hope this works! Lemme know if I need to edit
It's odd, but... if the other boy is in need of healing (why else would he be here), then Gokudera will help. They can both benefit, after all. Someone else from Bakugou's world could also help, but they aren't here. Dusty is.
The bomber holds out an open palm to the other, and doesn't clarify whether he wants a hand or those herbs Bakugou gathered. Perhaps this will be an easier time for them to get along? Gokudera won't be talking because he needs this to work. He doesn't look interested in bickering, anyways, far too tired. It's not like Gokudera wants to feel whatever this guy might be going through, but... if he can help, he may as well. He's got his own burdens to share, like... his fear of the fire he creates to start those herbs smoldering. Bakugou can go ahead and feel that fear first. Other than that it will just be a sort of emotional pain that permeates.]
