[ A new day, a new building someone can set on fire.

The arsons have been continuing for at least the past few days. It took Akira a day to figure out that a certain request on the dark web is the reason. From that moment on, he's discovered that quite a lot of people are okay with setting things on fire for some pocket money. Catching someone red-handed, however, has turned out to be quite a challenge.

Stumbling into another burning building isn't anything too unusual, but it would be nice to be able to take a walk without having to put the fire down, honestly. On the bright side, he's going to be better at water magic by the end of the month. At what cost, though...

It looks like he's not alone on the site; the flames can be seen from far away, so it might be better to team up with someone else to deal with this situation. It always feels a little awkward to ask a complete stranger—Akira remains blissfully unaware of some of the things his doppelganger did—but there's no time to hesitate about small things. ]

Hey, do you know elemental magic? Or can you look for someone who knows it?

[ There's a sphere of water forming above Akira's hand—it grows bigger steadily until he's ready to make it splash over one part of the building. ]

[ It actually doesn't take all that long for Bakugou to figure out that it's coming from a request. That's why people do a lot of crazy as fuck crap, right?

There's no rule here about using magic to further one's interests really. Nothing that says people can't use their magic to help others out either. That means that doing what a hero should be doing isn't illegal by any means. Hence the reason that Bakugou doesn't consider it vigilante work to run around and try to stop people.

This time is no different. He's rushing to another building that's been set ablaze with the intention of putting it out only to run into -

Oh.... Oh he knows that face! The only thing keeping Bakugou from snapping at this twig is the realization that he had dealt with a copy and not the original. ]

I can use elemental magic, yeah.

[ Though water is still. Shaky. ]

Is everyone out of the building?

Oh, I was just guessing. [ Ignorance is bliss, especially if your copy decided to attack strangers while you were trapped in vines. ] Guess it's my lucky...okay, no.

[ There's nothing lucky about another building set on fire. ]

I think most people—

[ At that moment, a woman cuts in wailing her cat must have remained inside. She points at the roof, where the feline actually is, meowing loudly. That's not all: it looks like the quest giver is feeling quite bold today and shamelessly takes a picture of the building on fire. ]

Can you take them on alone? Or at least keep them busy for a while? I can go pick up the cat in the meantime.

[ In these trying times of Minotaurs throwing rocks at buildings and people setting fires everywhere, one of the cafés decided to host a latte art class. At least the minotaur seems to be gone already which cannot be said about the arsonists but life goes on.

Akira probably didn't even have to drag Sylvain here, so here they are, sitting by one of the tables with the foam and coffee ready. All there's left to do is art. ]

It's never too latte to learn a new trick or two.

[ It looks like Akira is already in the mood to try latte art. ]

I hope that you like coffee.

[ akira definitely did not have to drag sylvain here, because as mentioned previously, minotaurs throwing rocks at buildings and unchecked acts of arson just takes a lot out of people? and once the minotaur has been dealt with, sylvain does not need to be convinced to take (what he feels is) a well-deserved break.

and in this case, a well-deserved break means attending a latte art class. sylvain has not had a latte before, but he has since learned that it is coffee with steamed milk, or something like that. he has tried coffee a few times back when he was still at the academy, and while it was alright, it's not a favorite. still, he thinks the coffee here would likely be a little different. but more importantly, the concept of making art in a drink is pretty new to him? akira seems like he knows his stuff though, so maybe it won't be too difficult. ]

Oh, sure. It's not like I'm [ closes my eyes ] pressed for time here, right?

[ looks like sylvain is, too. ]

I'll admit, I've always been more of a tea kinda guy, but I'm ready to be persuaded.

[ They deserve each other, oh my god. Pressed for time. Of course, Akira snorts at that—if anything, he knows how to appreciate terrible puns. ]

Are you a nobilitea or something? [ Let's be real, Sylvain was just asking for this to happen. ] Please don't tell me that you have never eaten curry in your life either.

[ Because if not, Akira's gonna Sojiro it up. Even if he's not the real deal, he's learned a thing or two from his guardian. ]

[ Ignoring that kind of request is out of the question for Akira; while retrieving the stones doesn't sound like a particularly difficult task, but knowing that fairies will be there makes him a bit wary. The ones Akira has met so far were very thorough about proper etiquette and various celebrations, so he wouldn't be surprised if they were asking people to join them for a while before taking the holographic rocks. Not to mention that the spirit might ask for something, too.

Thinking that it would be safer to ask someone to go with him, Akira pulls out his phone once he's near the gates. A few moments later, he spots Izuku whom he actually meant to text. ]

Hey! Going on a trip?

[ Akira turns around to show off a backpack he's carrying; it's mostly empty, though—that way he should be able to bring quite a few rocks. ]

[Izuku was immediately interested in the quest once he saw it. A chance to collect some interesting stones while seeing a strange phenomenon? Sign him up- he's like a kid going on a field trip. He's hoping he can keep a stone or two for himself because there's a charm he wants to try making out of one for a certain girl. Plus he's dealt with fairies a few times now and while he might not be an expert he thinks he can dodge a tricky spell or two by now.

He's waiting there at the gate with his own pack that might be stuffed with one two many things needed for this but he's ready...! More or less!]

Eh? Akira-kun! [He smiles, looking happy to see the other again.] Y-yeah! I'm heading up to the north side of the farms to see the river there. I'm guessing you're going the same way?

Yeah, how did you know? How about teaming up again?

[ Akira's encounters with faeries so far were mostly rather disastrous, so having someone to back him up sounds like a reasonable thing to do, honestly. ]

Just a fair warning, I usually get on the faeries' bad side for some reason, even when I'm on my best behavior. Not sure why...

[ For some reason, Akira thought that a quiet spot just outside the castle gates will be a great place to practice animal magic on his own. Little did he know, though.

Not to mention that he manages to spot Jean right in the middle of transforming into a calico cat. The thing is, he has only one cat ear and a cat tail, making him a half-baked catboy, no less. ]

Um, hi. [ He smiles sheepishly. ] Now, this is awkward.

[ There's an album featuring various cats right in front of him, so at least it's obvious what he's been trying to do here. ]

[Now this is definitely a situation Jean hadn't expected to encounter... even if he probably should have guessed it possible, considering the nature of animal magic.

Even if he tries to remain neutral there's a hint of an amused grin there.]

[ Akira notices Harry in one of the alleys during one of his everyday walks around the city. He's about to raise his hand, wave at the other teen, and greet him when he notices a small spark that turns into a flame in the next moment. ]

Hey. [ Akira walks closer, a little curious what's going on in here. ] Impromptu magic practice?

[ He'd do the same with animal magic if he knew how to make his clothes reappear after transforming back into his human form. ]

(It was supposed to be a normal day of practicing fire magic for Harry as he tries to conjures up a flame the size of his fist which he was able to do; he thought it was going to be a quiet time at the alleys when he could hear Akira greeting him.)

Oh Akira, hi! I was just trying to practise my fire magic in the alley right now. Don’t want to risk burning something by accident again.

(Rose is currently taking a nap on a cardboard box whereas Hedwig turns her head around from her spot on top of a trash can and hoots back at Akira.)

[ Another opportunity to practice animal magic some more presents itself when Akira bumps into Ken and Koromaru. It must be his lucky day, honestly—not only Ken has been using animal magic for quite some time, but Koromaru should also be able to help...assuming that Akira can pull off talking to him, at least.

Perhaps he shouldn't have been focusing on the transformation part, only. Well, at least he can ask Ken for some tips. ]

Hey, do you have a minute? Okay, it might take a bit longer than that...it's about animal magic.

[Meanwhile as Ken was out and about taking his daily walk with his companion, he raised an eyebrow at the older teen.]

Yeah but what about it?

[He said before tilting his head to the side. Although, that made him look down at Koromaru before giving a small shrug. What was Akira going to ask? He didn't know but he might have a good idea of what it might be!]

[ A day before the Tree-Picking Tournament held in the Camelot's cookie orchard, Akira shoots Naoto a message. ]

Have you heard about the tournament tomorrow?
They're going to have trees that grow cookies on them or something.
If you planted such a tree somewhere near your tea shop, you wouldn't have to worry about snacks every once in a while.
How is it going with your business, by the way?

[ Since the nudibranchs causing problems for the underwater village are quite dangerous from what he's heard and read on them, Akira figures out that going underwater completely alone might be dangerous. Actually, he managed to scout one (1) crab with his animal magic, but still, it would be nice to have someone else there.

That's when he spots a boy on the shore with the same underwater breathing potion Akira has got earlier. ]

Hey, would you mind if I joined you? This little guy's with me—oh.

[ It looks like the crab he convinced to join him found a knife, nice. ]

[ gran takes a moment to stare at the crab with the knife.

yep, he’s seen weirder. he looks back at akira with a nod. ]

I don’t mind. I would appreciate the help, actually. There’s only so much I can do with alchemy, after all.

( admittedly, since moving out of the inn, Maruki hasn't really ventured out of the city. there isn't much cause to do so — all his research can be carried out in the city, as can a lot of his magic practice. but the quest tugged at something in his soul.

it was just a kind plea. no fighting involved, nothing but the pure wish of someone to make their grandmother's last days beautiful. who could say no to it?

so it's been about half a day of walking, and Maruki is beginning to feel the strain, the snacks he packed a decent boost of energy but hardly enough to keep him from needing to stop at a clearing to prepare a proper lunch. )

Hastur!

( his familiar arrives in a swoop of shadows, immediately at attention by his side. it's a little unnerving every time it happens, this immediate obedience, but he doesn't dislike it either. )

Help me with lunch.

( the persona can't exactly blink, but it seems taken aback nevertheless as it finds a small pot deposited in its arms, followed by a jar of pickled vegetables and spices. Maruki places a cloth on one of the taller stones and turns it into a makeshift countertop, placing down a knife and a cutting board, acting for all the world like this is just a lunchtime barbecue and nothing more.

it makes quite the scene for any passers by. )

I'm surprised you didn't bring enough snacks for the trip.

[ It's quite a sight; Akira can't just pass by without stopping for at least a moment. ]

You could start your own cooking show, I'm sure people would watch that.

[ Sounds like something less troublesome than recreating a whole reality to make it suit people's wishes. While he's here for the quest, taking a break after walking most of the day shouldn't hurt. ]

If you need another pair of hands, I can help. Unless you'd rather use tentacles while cooking.

[ While it's not Akira's first time seeing the stocks—he's seen quite a few devices on the courtesy of the Velvet Room—it's definitely his first time examining them from this perspective.

Trapped between planks, Akira's completely at mercy of the audience and whoever decides to come closer. If he's seeing right, the vendor is making cash on tomatoes of all kinds, so at least he's aware of what's about to come in a moment.

A few ripe tomatoes fly just above his head and it's just a matter of time that someone will finally manage to aim it just right. ]

Tomato juice was never my favorite, to be honest...

[ This is probably the strangest challenge she's ever participated in. Though. . . she's not quite sure if this is challenge to begin with? She does not look impressed.

From the crowd, Akira will find one familiar white haired lady. Fortunately for him, she's not holding any fruit or vegetables to throw. ]

This really seems all so uncivilised. [ Yes, she did just insult the entire population. They all look at her as if she just said something so vulgar, too. ] What? Why would you even throw food at a person?! Do you think this is a game? And what a waste of resources!

[ Sounds like a fight might end up brewing here... ]
