It is Taichi's 18th birthday and the party is 50s diner themed. Not because Taichi is about to go and join some greasers sort of deal but most of his favorite foods could be found in a diner so why not go with a theme? From the bright red diner tables and the random fake license plates hung around, the setting looks exactly like a 50s diner. There are waiters and waitresses dressed up to play the role, with the girls rolling around on roller skates to refill/replace the basket of fries at every table and offer either soda or water to everybody around. There's party games, music, and more. Random people in business suits that you don't know? Shh, pay it no mind.

MENU
If you want healthy* options? Sorry, you're out of luck. Hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings, and any type of soda you can imagine. Dessert? This sweet tooth overload. Check your diet at the door today.
*There is salad.

MUSIC
In the jukebox for a small fee, you can choose among the different songs there are. However, you will not find any oldies but just different rock songs. There are a couple of strange dance songs (what the hell is a salsa slip?) and a slow song in case anybody wants to have a moment. No matter the song you choose, it doesn't really fit with the 50s theme.

GAMES
You know what else doesn't fit the 50s theme? The arcade games. There's games similar to tetris, some type of alien invader looking game, fighting games, some racing games, and some game called Glutton Dude where you just try to eat a lot. However, there is a pinball machine so this isn't entirely anachronistic here.

[ A gift, huh?

Unfortunately, this is not an easy task for Crow, since anything he thought to pick up was to his own tastes. He knows Taichi doesn't have the same style as him, so finding a good present was a bit of a challenge for the rocker. Wow, maybe he should pay attention to other people for a change? .....Nah!

After a bit of fighting his strong impulse to choose something more punkish, he picks out this pretty rad sweatshirt.]

[Aurora wasn't quite sure what to get Taichi, but one did not go to a party empty-handed.

With that in mind, and winter around the corner, Aurora bought Taichi a red scarf with matching red leather gloves, and, on a more personal note, she bought him a book on "Perfect Monologues" as she knew he enjoyed acting.]

[HBD Puppy Pal!!

Kazunari has made Taichi one of those neat-o 3D layered paper art pieces that depicts Akapoyo-kun doing a sick skateboard move. It looks like a comic book character busting out of its panel frame. And in the layered background, there are pansies and other callbacks to some of Taichi's previous roles.

[ Tsumugi has a couple of gifts for Taichi: a vase full of pansies (because is it really tsumugi if he's not gifting flowers), a set of origami paper, and a notebook for him to use however he wants. There's also a card that reads: ]

itaru's going to leave him a huge ass deep-dish pizza on the table along with half a dozen cans of weirdly flavored soda drinks (specifically banana yogurt, gingerbread, chocolate, kimchi ramune, rose petal, and cucumber). because when it comes to junk food, the both of them just can't be beat.

also! can't be itaru without videogames. taichi will receive not only a legitimate copy of Nintendogs + Cats on the 3ds, but a nice little 2ds as well. it's on sale, bite him. ]

[He definitely associates Taichi with color, so he gets colorful clothing/accessories as gifts. They're in a shirt box, wrapped in brown craft paper with a messy paw print and a cursive G.]

( thinking of presents for someone like Taichi seems like it should be easier than it was. he has so many interests that it shouldn't take her a minute, and yet... nothing quite felt right. nothing felt like enough to express the gratitude she has for Taichi purchasing Kaika theatre, nor the right way to celebrate his happy relationship.

so, in the end, she finds an artist with a talent for lettering and offers them a single line, one which struck her on the very first showing of The Roman Episode:

"Are you a friend of my brother? My name's Benjamin, nice to meet you!"

that single first line of Taichi's, a small role where he shone like the star he is, designed into a beautiful framed print, and underneath:

[ Their shared apartment still lacks a lot of things, personal touches mostly. However, there's not a lot to do about it, thinking of big gifts to fill the space with something costs more than Juza can put away from his casual work after paying his share of rent. His arms haven't forgotten their move-in, though. After wondering about the weight of one of Taichi's boxes, he'd asked and peered inside—so many notebooks......

If Juza can't afford something grand, he decided go with something useful. Easier said than done, or at least he didn't go easy on himself. How many days, leading up, had the owner of the small stationary shop near the school seen him, the glare already on his face twisted into even deeper thought, in front of a shelf packed with pens.

He was able to pick one, in the end. ]

A. Taichi vs Chocolate Mountain
[ As if the diner theme wasn't enough, once Taichi is thoroughly packed full of his favorite dishes (as is his birthday tradition) the cake comes out. Taichi himself isn't actually a big sweets eater, but it is his birthday, and this came is impressive in its own right. He's almost a little intimidated by how much chocolate is packed into one place.]

I won't back down now...!

[ Stuffed as he is, his most amazing boyfriend in the world did this for him (and Taichi's a little bit sure blew what he thought was a really good birthday from him to Hikaru out of the water). He has to defeat this cake.

As birthday boy, his determined expression comes before the sudden demand directed at whoever is in the vicinity. ]

I want to try... a slice with KitKat!

B. Dance Dance Taichilution!
[ Having indulged in everything that he ate, it is perhaps miraculous that he goes to dance afterwards. At first, he's going through the jukebox menu for quite some time. If you're watching the birthday boy, you may notice him tilting his head s couple of times as he does look through the menu. First one way, then the other. Apparently Avalon does not have any of the bath-themed hits by Break the Tubs, one if Taichi's favorite bands.

He does, however, manage to find Beyonce and the staff is kind enough to clear a place on the floor and give him two back up dancers to perform Single Ladies to. Those who have not witnessed this before should know that Taichi is a little too good at the dance for this to be his first time. It's Fellas in his world, but Beyonce still brings the beat in no matter what planet they're on.

Want to make the puppy's tail wag? He enjoys attention and praise, so once his dance is done feel free to do so. Or ask him to dance to something else maybe? He's great at head banging and crowd calls too. ]

C. F2P Hero
[ The arcade games are a nice touch, 50's or not, and they're honestly a lot more tactile than most modern video games so Taichi is having the time of his life. He's a free to play only player most of the time though (and especially now that most of his money is tied up in either trying to make his high maintenance boyfriend happy or Kaika Theater) so he's mostly hovering around the games, watching other people, and cheering exuberantly. Have you ever had someone fist bump while you play pinball? You're about to!! ]

Go go go, don't let it fall!

[ Open to pretty much anything! Taichi is just happy to be here and may cry happily later if a lot of people come.]

[Hikaru hasn't been too close to Taichi's side too much tonight, mostly because he's the one hosting and trying to make sure everything is going by quickly enough. When Taichi is watching the games, Hikaru makes his way over and leans his chin down on Taichi's shoulder.]

Aren't you going to play, birthday boy?

[Hi Taichi, you are approached by a very confused Ren (who did greet, congratulate and so on earlier so at least this isn't the first greeting).]

Tai-chan... How are you supposed to eat hot dogs?

Certainly, the birthday boy shouldn't just be a spectator of the games?

[Aurora says behind him, her hands clasped behind her back. She honestly didn't really KNOW the games, one way or another. So she had no idea how they worked or what to do. But Taichi clearly seemed to understand them.]

[ Well, count Crow in when anything involves music and letting loose! He watches Taichi dance to his song of choice, and although pop music isn't his jam, he can still bop his head to the catchy, infectious beat. Heck, Taichi makes it look so fun with that fancy footwork, even if he's not aware of the dance and song being such a viral sensation.

Once the music ends, Crow starts to rile up the crowd by bouncing up and down, encouraging Taichi to continue dancing.]

Go, Taichi! Go, Taichi! Don't stop 'til you drop! Don't stop 'til you drop! Go, Taichi! Go, Taichi! Show us what you can do! Teach us some of your moves!

[Crow can actually be a pretty good hype man!]

[It's just pinball, and Gokudera is focused, and... doing extremely well. He usually isn't great with video games, or rather, ends up breaking things when he loses or can't figure it out. Look, it's awful to get beaten in a fighting game by a button-mashing 5 year-old, ok?

His hair is pulled back into a little ponytail, pins holding back his fringe, and he has his glasses on. This isn't a study-session, Gokudera, why?

But he's focused, and he's doing a very good job or wracking up a high score.

Until the birthday boy starts to cheer behind him and mess up his focus. He isn't, really. Taichi is great and Gokudera was bound to lose at some point. Dramatic, though, he punches the game (thankfully without damaging anything), and turns to yell.]

What the fuck!? I almost beat the high score!!!

[To anyone who has ever been yelled at by him, there is no legit anger, just frustration at the game. Gokudera may be sour for a little bit, but that can be changed.]

[Kazunari, of course, has his phone out and has been taking a lot of stealth photos of Taichi and the other guests enjoying the party too, but Taichi's dance needs to be recorded in its entirety. Look at him go!]

Yaaah!! Way to go, Taicchan! Give us more, king!

[He doesn't know what the music selection is, but it can't stop there!]

[ Tsumugi looks to his left and right, just to confirm that he was the intended recipient of that demand, before nodding. ]

Of course. [ Whatever the birthday boy wants, he shall get! Taichi's wishes are his command!!

As he's grabbing a plate for the reasonably sized slice of cake (with kitkat!) he's cut for him, he asks, ] Can I get you anything else?

( sure, it might not be the trendiest dance back home, but there's no denying it's a classic and Taichi truly memorised every step of it, and so Izumi is quite happy to watch, rapt with attention, as he pulls it off. )

[It's a birthday party so it isn't the same as the usual type of parties he has to host at his host club. But it is still a party that he has put together. Playing host is all part of networking and Hikaru is most definitely all about that.

Hikaru is walking around in between entertaining everybody else and if he notices their glass is empty, he motions for a waitress to come back.] Hey, this one's empty! [He smiles and a waitress comes back quickly to fill the glass and rolls off.] Are you having fun?

[Hikaru isn't really into these type of games. He's good enough at them but he also doesn't find them challenging enough. But he is hovering around them, offering up the game fee whenever someone loses.] Boo! Here you go! [And now, Hikaru will be cheering you on for a moment because a happy guest is a party well done and one people will talk about in the future.]

It's worth one more shot, right?

This is quite the affair! I've never been to a birthday party like this before. [Or... anyone's outside of her own, actually.]

[ Of course, the music-based games draw Crow in. He's trying his hands at Camelot's knockoff of Guitar Hero, Rock Savior. The hedgehog manages to get to a pretty high level, but now the computer is easily kicking his ass. Of course, Hikaru catches him in the nick of time to see his defeat.]

My hand just slipped, that's all!

[ He starts to fume but Hikaru adds another play for him. He turns toward the host with bright eyes!]

Oh, thanks, Man! Now, that computer is going down!

[He gets ready to start the round again before an afterthought hits him.]

And oh yeah, thanks for the invite! This is a pretty cool party!

[Gokudera took his sweet time finishing his glass, thanks, and was going to use it being empty as a reason to leave, just... gonna hand it off and roll out. But now that Hikaru is approaching him to get it refilled and being such a good host, he's left awkwardly standing and trying to figure out a good excuse to leave.

The bomber is dressed in a jade green cardigan over a charcoal grey graphic tee, and has on his usual distressed jeans. He knows there wasn't a dress code, but he can't wear a hoodie all day every day (or can he? let's assume not).

Mental gymnastics stop at the question and he nods.

It makes him feel some kind of way seeing Hikaru and Taichi together. He's supportive and worried all at once.]

You really pulled out all the stops...

[He trades his empty glass for the refill and nods his thanks at the waitress before taking a tiny sip.]

He's a really lucky guy.

[ While Tsumugi's gotten a little better at playing video games during his time here, to say he's bad would be putting it nicely. At least now he fully understands that he doesn't have to turn himself in order to turn in game? It's something, at least.

Unfortunately, that knowledge doesn't help him any further than the second stage of the alien invader game. He's ready to admit defeat and step away when- ] Oh! [ He hadn't even noticed Hikaru there! How embarrassing. But he smiles, warmly and with gratitude. ]

You're right. I'll give it another try. [ Maybe this time will be better? Maybe? ... probably not, unless a miracle happens. But at least he's in good spirits. ] Thank you, Hikaru-kun.
