— open. fundraiser & auditions!
🧙 WHO: Kaika Theatre Members & You?
⚔️️ WHAT: Kaika Theatre fundraiser & post-audition log!
🕒 WHEN: 1st (Fundraiser) and 5th (Auditions) September
🗺️ WHERE: Kaika Theatre.
⚠️ WARNINGS: Gratuitous amounts of curry
It's finally here, the promised day of the fundraiser. Anyone who walks past the shiny and new Kaika Theatre will notice the makeshift stalls set outside, hosting a veritable smorgasboard of foods and drinks. ... Okay. Mostly it's a lot of cupcakes, plates of curry bread (both vegetarian and not, at all spice levels) and a mixture of cold and hot drinks options. While all of this is available for individual purchase, there's also a sign next to the curry bread stall that proclaims CHALLENGE MODE: CURRY ROULETTE. If you're feeling brave, grab a few friends and try the randomly assorted platter of curry bread, and try to avoid the extra spicy option.
Whether you just drop by for a bite to eat or stay a while and chat, or ask for a tour of the theatre, remember that all proceeds go to helping the newly formed Kaika Theatre afford everything they need in order to put on their first, sure to be unforgettable, show here in Camelot.
Of course, if you're a little more interested in being a star, or maybe just helping in the creation of a fantastic play, you can drop by a few days later when Kaika Theatre holds open auditions! They're nothing terrifying — all you have to do is provide your name and show some passion for theatre, and Izumi will welcome you with open arms. No experience required, just dedication and hard work. But once that's all over, you can hang around and talk with the current Kaika members in order to get a better idea of what you're in for.
( ooc; this is a mingle log, so post your top levels and interact as you like! No need to write out a formal audition because, well, Izumi's standards are pretty easygoing as long as you seem like you have a love of theatre. Just sign up on the business page which is linked in this post. )

tsumugi tsukioka | a3!
[ As the newest arrival from the theater company formerly known as Mankai, Tsumugi is extra determined to do his part in ensuring the fundraiser's success! So whether you need a question answered, a bite to eat, or something else entirely: ] How can I help you?
[ During calmer moments, though, when he's certain the rest of the company can hold down the fort, Tsumugi can be found instead tending to the flower beds that surround the theater. They're still a work in progress - there's only so much he can get done before the weather turns too cold - but he's proud of what he's managed to cultivate so far! In fact, you might even hear that pride in his voice as he speaks directly to the flowers. ] You're growing so big and strong, little ones...
[ or something else lmao really i'm flexible ]
❅ september 5th - for new and old kaika theater members
[ Tsumugi understands how terrifying auditions can be. Failure has the power to shatter confidence, to kill long-held dreams and make someone turn away from something they once loved. Of all of that, he's very, very familiar. So if you're auditioning and looking even a little uneasy before taking the stage, he will approach you with a kind smile and gentle voice. ] Are you nervous?
[ After auditions wrap up and everyone is left to mingle, Tsumugi wastes no time in approaching to anyone unfamiliar. ] Welcome to Kaika Company. My name is Tsumugi Tsukioka. [ He bows his head slightly. ] I look forward to working with you.
[ Of course, any of the founding Kaika members are welcome to talk with him as well! Just know that, predictably, Mr. Acting Junkie's head is full of only thoughts of theater at the moment... ]
September 1st
While taking a walk around outside, he finds one of those human actors by a flower bed.
And so a duck addresses him about talking to plants.]
Friends of yours?
no subject
Sorry... [ Both for not noticing his approach (he was very absorbed in the flowers) and for staring. Even if he's not gaping, it's clear that he's a little shocked. In his defense, though, he hasn't been here too long, and everyone he's met up until this point has been human.
He stands up, brushing dirt off from his knees. ] It's a habit I got from my grandmother. Though it's a little embarrassing, knowing that someone else heard me. [ Aha... ha... ha........... ]
Anyways, are you here to look at the theater? If so, I would be happy to show you around.

September 5th
With that in mind, she settles into a seat near the back to view the proceedings. It takes watching exactly one audition for her to decide that being onstage is right out. That's way too much putting oneself out there for her tastes. Tech crew it is.
As the auditions wrap up and she's free to start mingling, she finds her friend among the crowd.]
I have a newfound appreciation for what you do. How do you do these auditions and not just die onstage?
no subject
Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Mary, and he politely excuses himself from the conversation he was in to reconnect with his friend. At her question, he laughs, though it's mostly sheepish. ] If I'm being honest, it's not always easy... even I get nervous sometimes. [ And he's been acting for basically half his life!
His smile softens. ] But thank you. And thank you as well for coming today. I really appreciate it.

september 1st!
[ Sans stands there intently, quite interested! Back in the Underground, he's done quite a few shows of his own, though they were mostly stand-up routines. Still, he was a pretty big hit. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to try out and be involved in a group. ]
no subject
It takes a moment for Tsumugi to blink the surprise off his face, but once he does, he offers Sans a friendly smile. Sure, this is pretty surreal, but it'd be against the entire spirit of the event to let that get to him! And maybe talking skeletons are more common than he realizes? ]
Of course. Is there anything in particular you'd like to know, or just general information?
sorry im getting back to this so late!!
no worries!! ♥ this month's been hectic for a lot of people, myself included...
september 5th;
You don't have to be so formal!
[He waves a hand, laughing a bit.]
But I'm sure it'll be great working with you.
[For Childe. Tsumugi... It's up in the air how much he'll enjoy it.]
no subject
Thank you... Childe-san, was it? [ He's pretty good with names, but he rather be polite and double-check! ... though hopefully the honorific doesn't come off as too formal... ] If you don't mind me asking, what made you want to audition with us?

[When he's approached with 'How can I help you?', Zidane turns his head.]
Yeah, this is where the theater troupe auditions are happening, right?
that's a-okay! but important question: did you bring anything for me
That's correct. Today's our fundraiser, but we'll be holding open auditions in a few days.
[ Since he asked... ] Are you interested in theater?
depends on how you feel about a s'more latte...
a s'mores latte sounds fantastic right now, thank you

sakyo furuichi | A3! | ota
[ Sakyo will be spending most of his time checking on the food stalls, making sure sales are coming in and trying to persuade customers to order maybe just a little more than they would prefer to pay for. If he notices someone trying to go through the Curry Roulette more than once, he'll more than likely shoo them away. They only have so much product to go through and he's not letting it all go to waste on people that want a quick cheap large meal of curry breads.
He'll also be seen approaching individuals with a clipboard and paper in hand, asking very important Kaika Company related questions in regards to what kind of merchandise people would be most interested in buying in the future. There's a long list of options on the paper that you can cross off, from the typical things like bromides and pins and posters, to more creative choices like water bottles and balloons and hair scrunches, and then the bizarre like... shampoo/conditioner and toothbrushes.
You must look into all avenues to make money, that's what Sakyo thinks. ]
( AUDITIONS )
[ Its easy to feel a little intimidated during the auditions, but the director is a kind woman who sees the best in anyone, so its highly unlikely you'll be declined no matter how badly you do. In fact, one would say a large portion of the theater troupe is more than eager to give anyone tips or help to get them through the audition process. They're all here to help each other, and so of course, they are here to help you as well! Here at Kaika Company everyone is nothing but supportive. ]
That audition was shit.
[ Yes... very supportive. ]
[ ooc: tags will be slow as i'm on hiatus for the month but Sakyo is like the dad of all the theater kids so he is obliged to be here and make people uncomfortable with his scary face and high expectations :) ]
fundraiser
And so when he hears Sakyo asking for potential merchandise ideas, he shakes his head and goes over.]
Bromides, pins, and posters will get you somewhere but you need to do better than shampoo/conditioner. First, start with handing out free tissues. People always use them so they'll see them all the time and be reminded. But put your actors' faces on the packaging. You got cute guys so use them to your advantage. Market it as the guys acting for girls, like making their dreams come true. Girls go for that stuff. When you have the fans then do things like calenders and special articles. Once you have enough revenue then you can actually get to the point.
Oh, and social media posts with all the actors. Make it super personal with glamor shots. Have interviews with the actors, detailing their favorite foods and hobbies. [Hikaru takes a sip of the drink he was holding and continues.]
I didn't take care of the merchandising but the host club I was in did a lot of merch so we could make money.
[He's a natural.]

auditions!
[ Which is what they're looking for, isn't it? For buds that could bloom into vibrant, stunning flowers in the spotlight? If they set their expectations too high, who knows how many could reach them. ]
And besides, everyone has to start from somewhere, right? [ As the founding members of this company, they have experience under their belts - but hadn't most of them stood in front of Izumi in a similar way, with nothing to speak of? If anything, coming into Mankai already an actor was unusual. ]
Auditions
[Morgan accepts this blunt criticism without a jot of rancor or complaint, folding his hands behind his head. It's a little embarrassing, since he ought to be much better just for having learned so much in his time, but it isn't like he practiced or anything!]
If you've had a moment, I'm super-open to some constructive feedback!
Taichi Nanao | OTA
[ The business may be under Taichi's name but he's not so much in charge as he is just wanting to follow his dreams. Which means despite being the "owner" he's just running around helping out anywhere he can. ANd that, of course, starts with poaching curry bread samples. Cut up on a plate into about inch long pieces, he's got a sample of one of the normal curry buns (he made sure to triple check) and is going around on the street outside of the theater approaching people to offer samples. ]
Hi there! Do you want to try a curry bun!? They're pretty awesome, and we're raising money for Kaika Theater's start-up costs right now, so if you like it you can come on in, check the place out, and get yourself some lunch if you like it!
B. Street Act
[ The sprinklers outside of Kaika have been politely asked by a technomancer to turn on outside of their schedule and redirected with some carefully placed hollowed out potatoes (LOOK THEY'RE FREE BECAUSE OF BASIC POTATO SPELL) so it looks like fake rain on the street. Taichi is facedown on the ground in the 'rain' and there's red coming from his chest, diluting the rain like a dramatic scene. He is dying. (Well, he's acting like he is. Taichi's got some experience with dramatic death scenes.)
Approach him and help him act out a scene or watch one of the other Kaika members come approach? There is a small sign that says "Streetside Theater!" just out of range of the water... just in case... An incident had already occurred that almost started a fight before last time he and Juza did a street act, so it's best to be careful. ]
C. Wildcard
[ I'm cool with whatever /o/ ]
wildcard-ish
Sūn, I have heard from Childe your new establishment is in need of monetary assistance. I hope what I have collected shall suffice.
[ And Zhongli plops down a big ol' bag full of gold coins onto the table. It might be a small bag, about the size of the palm of your hand, but there's a whole lot of coins in there. ]
Life bitch slapped me 😭
bitch slaps life back 😤

[ Juza has been delegated to a safe distance, away from the food stalls, and had his cupcakes rationed. That's nothing he's too pleased with—his face would tell as much, although that deep frown is as much just his regular expression—but he gets it. He's got a certain reputation with the company's food reserves and they're meant for raising money and interest, not for him to eat. Still, he'd like to. He tries his part to recommend them from a distance. ]
Have a cupcake, or some hot chocolate. [ With that underlying sense of "or else" if you look up at his face...... He'll also point someone to the Curry Roulette, despite not being so sure of the tastes there himself. ]
'f you want somethin' spicy, try the curry buns. [ "Or else." ]
🤗 Wildcard
( Anything else! Juza is there both days, technically, so all goes! .....Mankai members with a keen eye might also see him inching closer to the cupcakes at some point. )
this is dumb but my heart wanted this 🥺🧁
But he doesn't need his heightened perception to notice Juza getting steadily closer and closer to the cupcakes. Before he can snatch any, Tsumugi steps in. ]
Juza-kun. [ Busted. Except he doesn't look upset, or even a little disappointed? In fact, he straight up gives him a strawberry one with a small smile. ] Here. You can have one of my cupcakes.
[ -1 to Tsumugi's allotted sweets, but +1 to Juza's. ]
🧁🧁🧁
Today, though, she's here to roam around and sample food when and where she can. What's the point of having money to spend, if you can't go a little wild when there's a whole fair(ish) going on? It's for a good cause, right?
When he speaks, though, she does look up--and up--and jeeze, he's tall compared to her. ]
...
[ In the end, there's just one thing she has to ask him, no matter how stiff or scary his face is: ]
What kind of cupcake flavors?
sorry for the very late reply 🙇♂️ let's get this bread, i mean, this cupcake 😤🧁🧁

Fundraiser
[... But first, he gestures to a cupcake himself.]
Do you want it instead?
childe appears nonetheless!!
[Childe told Izumi he was interested in the Kaika Company, and he's by and large a man of his word. Sometimes his word is something like "you shouldn't trust me", but, you know. It's his word and he was right about that.
Still, he shows up to put his money where his mouth is in a very literal sense. He's been busy since arriving in this new world - while he had the funding of Northland Bank back home, here he has to rely on himself. He's spent a lot of his time working and questing to get himself a significant cushion, which has come in handy more times than he'd like to admit. He really needs to stop buying things for people... Still, he's here to spend money and support the arts! And his new future job, possibly.
He's not crazy about cupcakes, but he will buy something to drink and stop by the curry roulette table.]
So one of these is extra spicy, huh?
[He's gotten somewhat used to the food in Liyue, so it should be fine, right? Right?
He grabs one at random, biting into it with vigor. He chews for a moment. Swallows.
And his face very quickly starts getting redder than his hair.]
Ahaha, oh, wow, that's. That packs a punch!
[He's dying. Goodbye, cruel world, and thanks for nothing.]
september 5th;
[Childe does not actually die via curry bread, so he returns to Kaika Theatre to give it his all during the auditions. Despite, or perhaps because of, everything Childe is, he's a natural on stage. He does, technically, have experience with acting, and he spends his time waiting for his turn trying to chat with the others around.]
Y'know, I've never done an audition before. This should be fun!
[Of course he's not the slightest bit nervous.
And, unsurprisingly, because Izumi is Izumi, he passes! He's at least polite enough to thank the Director, and to anyone who seems willing to listen he'll just cheerfully say:]
Man, it's so much different from opera! It also helps when you know the lines, huh?
[Childe, what... What does that mean...]
auditions!!! hello lav
[ pipes up one of the actors from the sidelines, eyes still focused on the gacha game he's grinding on at the moment. ]
Well, you may have passed and all, but the Director's pretty keen when it comes to unmotivated people. It's pretty easy to spot fake acts from the audience, actually.
[ not that childe was fooling around on stage, but. you know. words from the wise. ]
♥

roulette!
but still, there's a special joy that comes from knowing it was a success. she has faith in her curry recipes, of course, but preparing them for something like this roulette is a new challenge. will people from different worlds like her spice combinations? will the new spices she's discovered here in Camelot work like this? how spicy is spicy enough for the roulette?
well, it seems like she's got her answer on that last one, anyway. )
Are you okay? I can get you some milk.
( it'll cost some money though. )
