[Snagglefoot Miffen is the name of the thief that has snatched up some precious gems from a local jewelry shop in Camelot. And if there is one thing that Izuku can’t tolerate as a student studying to be a hero? It’s crime, of course! When he had seen the task, he had signed up right away. Being away from his homeworld and his school hasn’t taken anything away from Izuku’s determination to be a hero and to help out whenever he can.

But this thief is chalking it up to be quite the challenge. A slippery fellow that once Izuku gets a single lead is off before Izuku can reach the next one. He’s been tracking the man through the streets as fast as he can, but the thief seems to be one step ahead of him so far. The next lead means he’ll be heading to the Red Springs Inn next. That means Izuku has to get there before he does.]

Alright, I’m not letting him get ahead of me this time. Even if I’m here... I still have to be. Plus Ultra!

[There is a flicker of magic as Izuku places his hands on a nearby tree. A flash and a bang later and the tree transmutes and grows into a twisted-looking wooden ladder with footholds and all. Izuku is then climbing up the ladder onto the roof of the nearby building and is then running and leaping from roof to roof. Better for the bird’s eye view and to get to the Red Spring Inn faster! Occasionally, only stopping to transmute more branches and tall hanging trees into planks to use as a jumping point to the next roof or ledge!

[b: quest: farmers-r-us]

[Farming is still helping and Izuku is just glad that he can lend a hand. Alchemy magic also seems to be a good thing to have in this regard. He’s working with the local farmers with helping the new crops sprout. He’s slow at the work at first but he’s getting better at it bit by bit. And when he’s not helping with the crops himself he is also a healthy strong boy so moving supplies and hauling tools or crops is right up his alley too. The hard work feels nice!

What he doesn’t notice right away while he’s working is the small next of pixies that have seemed to have nested in a corner of the field he’s working in. One moment he is kneeling down to plant and work on some seedlings when his foot catches a part of the nest buried in the brush.]

Eh-??! [Whoosh!!

In an instant, the nest of pixies erupts like a swarm of bees flying around him in a pink and glittery haze! His hair flies up and sticks there as he blinks rapidly at the swarm whooshing all around him! He flails!]

Ah-!! Ack- AHHHHiiii!!

[How does he get the swarm of bees pixies to stop?! They’re starting to chant some sort of magic or charm and the air is starting to spark!]

[c: 🥦 broadsword shopping]

[Being in a fantasy world like this and without his usual quirk Izuku has realized he needs a way to keep up with combat and battle without being able to use his usual superpowers. Alchemy isn’t always a combat type of magic (or at least he hasn’t quite honed a way to use it in a combative way just yet) so he thinks with a weapon that it would be a good way to supplement his skills.

And who doesn’t want a big as heck sword to go with this entire fantasy world vibe?? Like right out of a JRPG!?

Izuku is browsing a local blacksmith and weapons store. Looking at a row of the broadswords that might fit his style and his grip. He’s never bought a sword before so he is a little out of his league right now but looking at the weapons is just … so freaking cool.]

Uaa... These swords are amazing! I can’t believe I’m really here and I can get one…!

[d: 🥦 alchemy studying]

[Izuku is still very new to alchemy but he is getting the hang of transmuting organic matter. Wood, plants and the like came to him easily enough. But with his classmates learning their own magic he does want to try and see if he can study enough to help them as well. With Katsuki and Tsuyu both using light magic, he has figured that the faster he learns how to change and manipulate glass, metal and precious stones? The better.

And that is where Izuku is right now. He’s sitting on a bench outside as he tinkers with a handful of copper pieces and a container full of sand. He’s currently trying to transmute the copper pieces into different shapes and later trying to change the sand into proper glass lenses.

Holding the piece of copper in his hand Izuku suddenly winces as his magic flashes and burns his skin. He drops the copper piece with a clatter! This is going to take some practice...]

If I can get copper and sand to work right... I can start making magnifying lenses...

[Izuku is starting to mutter to himself!]

[Izuku isn't the only one who is doing a little shopping these days. Nanaki is actually here to speak to the leatherworker here, but runs across the familiar green-haired boy along his errands. Seeing the young boy get excited over the swords makes Nanaki chuckle.]

Just be sure to pick one you can actually wield.

[He's always happy to see Nanaki-san. The other is a good quest-pal and has been reliable since day one. So he smiles sheepishly but happy when he sees him.]

Ahh... I think I can handle one of these ones! ... Or at least, I want to try it out...

[He wants to wield one as big as a buster sword, okay?? Izuku might look a little scrawny because of the loose clothing he wears but under it all he is fairly strong! Suprise nerd abs! Really!]

Well, just remember it's in the strength of your bite, not the length of your fangs.

[Bugenhagen used to say something like that when he was young and rambunctious. Or, well, younger and more rambunctious.]

[Nanaki looks over the swords, humming a little in consideration.]

I have a friend here who uses a sword as long as he. It took him a long time for him to wield it, but he is the only one who I've seen use a sword that large.

[Izuku bows his head a bit at the analogy. He can't help but feel fond of that. With a bit of a laugh too.]

Yeah... I'll try and remember that, Nanaki-san. I hope my bite is... strong?

[He looks back up at the display of swords too. Even with that, there is still a nerdy sparkle in Izuki's eyes at all the amazing-looking swords.]

I wonder how long it took for your friend to learn how to use a broadsword like that...??

Well, there's only one way to test that.

[This kid is very earnest... it puts a good feeling in Nanaki's chest.]

Hmm... well, from what I know of him, Cloud trained for many years to be a fighter strong enough to wield it. I don't know exactly how long, but we also had some experience during our travels. I always wondered how he carried it, let alone wielded it so expertly.

Though, for you, I fear a sword that size might make you topple over.

[Training for years sounds about right which makes Izuku feel just a tad downtrodden. He really though he would be good with a larger looking sword and thinks that he might have at least the upper body strength to be able to use one. But if it took Nanaki's friend Cloud years to be able to wield it well Izuku wonders how long it'll take him? Or if he even has that sort of time. But he doesn't want to give up on the idea.]

M-Maybe I can start with something a little bigger but I doubt it would be okay for me to have a sword the same size as me...anyway...

[He gives an unsure smile but he then goes to see if he can handle picking up one of the medium looking broadswords. Remarkably less wildly Nomura-JRPG-looking, luckily.]

[Took Cloud years, and he was also older than Izuku. Nanaki doesn't want to dash any dreams, but Izuku might need some practice before wielding a Buster Blade.]

[So when he picks up the medium broadsword, he nods slowly with a swish of his tail.]

That one looks a little more your size. How does it feel to wield?

It feels...

[He gives it a lift. It's hefty to be sure but there's something that feels really good about the weight. He can feel himself being able to use the power behind this. With some practice, of course...

His eyes are kind of nerd-sparkly...]

It feels great! ... I think this is good! Does it look okay?

[feralhumanity]

[My, my. Nanaki can't help but chuckle.]

It looks like it suits you.

[He flusters just slightly.]

I should probably give it a try first... There are some practice dummies in the back, I think. Do you want to tag along?

[Nanaki's tail swishes and he gives a nod.]

I think I will. Lead the way.

[Izuku looks hyped for this, gathering up the weapon he picked to try out and heading out to the back of the shop to the small training grounds equipped out back.]

By the way, Nanaki-san...? Do you fight often too? It seemed like you were used to that sort of thing when we were working in that library.

[Nanaki follows after Izuku as they head to the back of the shop. At the question, he nods.]

Yes. Mine isn't a violent species by nature, but I've been involved in many battles before coming here.

[That's probably why Nanaki looks so marred with a few battle scars. Not that Izuku thinks it looks bad- it's actually very awesome. Like real hero battle scars...]

Was there a reason for it? Ah- Ahh... I mean, if your species is peaceful... Why did you have to fight? Are you a protector? Or a guardian?

[feralhumanity]

[Izuku's questions don't really bother Nanaki. Rather, it reminds him of playful, curious pups asking all sorts of questions.]

Well, you could say so. My species has guarded my home for generations. We're a long-lived species, so we've kept watch over Cosmo Canyon for a very long time. My father died defending my home from a rival tribe.

[It feels good, talking about his father with pride rather than shame. He's very glad he learned the truth when he did.]

But I've seen much combat even outside of Cosmo Canyon. Before coming here, there was a calamity that threatened the whole planet. I was part of the group who fought to stop it from happening.

[fullgauntlet]

[That story is surprising and heartwarming to hear. Izuku smiles, nodding quickly in interest.]

If your father is anything like you- I can tell that he was a great guardian too, Nanaki-san...

[He nods.]

And stopping a whole calamity...?? It sounds like you're a true hero in your world.

Well, I would hope so. I hope to be like my father, the great warrior Seto!

[For how often he talks with a calm maturity, he sure does sound like an excited teen.]

Well, I wasn't alone. There were many people with me, fighting to make sure destruction didn't come to our planet. And in the end, we needed help from the planet itself for extra help. But I suppose it was pretty heroic.

[If Izuku's never seen a cat beast puff up in pride before, well, there it is.]

[He really can't help the big smile he gets in return! Seeing Nanaki puffing up like a proud cat (dog?) is adorable but also he can see the pride that the other has! That's important!]

Really! Stopping a calamity, destruction to your planet...?! It's like something I've seen in a hero drama before! Saving the planet just in the nick of time, help from supernatural causes too! The true hero's journey! Your father would be proud to call you a warrior!

[He thinks, anyway!!]

[Izuku's enthusiasm draws a chuckle from Nanaki; it's actually kind of cute, hearing so much praise and excitement from the young boy.]

Hero drama? Well, I suppose it does sound like the kind of tale my grandfather would say when I was a pup...

[But his ears flick, and he shakes out his mane.]

I truly hope he does, even after... well, after how I was when I was younger.

[fullgauntlet]

[Izuku picks the broadsword he has picked out and makes way for the dummies in the back of the shop. He hefts up the weapon and tests the weight in his hand.]

Ah- Hero dramas are stories they show in my world. About the trials and tribulations that heroes go through. Is that something like what your grandfather would tell you about?

[He smiles. Now he's picturing this little scamp of a puppy-]

When you were younger?

Yes, something like that. Fairy tales and stories of things that happened long ago... even longer than the time of some of my ancestors. Stories of heroes are really important in your world, I take it?

[He's heard legends and stories of heroes, but there weren't really any superheroes in his world.]

Yes. I was a pup once too, you know. But back then, I thought my father was a coward and regretted being his son. But it turns out I just didn't have all the details to his story.

[fullgauntlet]

Yeah. Hero stories are important... It's a big part of our culture.

[Nanaki's expression that he used to regret being his father's soon makes him curious. But he doesn't want to step on any toes if Nanaki doesn't want to share of course!]

I- If you don't mind me asking... What happened?

[feralhumanity]

Is that so? Were there many heroes in your culture's past?

[He's thinking of it in terms of cultural heroes or tales of heroic deeds.]

[At the question, Nanaki hims a little, his ears flicking. He debates not telling Izuku for a moment, remaining silent until they make it to the training grounds properly. But once they are in the practice area, he sits down, tail flicking.]

Before I was young, a rival clan attacked my home. When I was younger, I thought my father had run away when they attacked, leaving the rest of the denizens to fight. But in reality, he had gone to a rear entrance to fend the Gi Tribe off all alone, keeping them from invading Cosmo Canyon from behind. I had no idea until just two years ago.

[He lowers his head, ears angling down a bit.]

For almost fifty years I thought my father a coward, when really he was the bravest warrior of them all.

[fullgauntlet]

[Izuku moves to rest the top of the broadsword on the ground for a moment. Taking some time to listen before diving deep into some testing and training with a sword like this.]

Nanaki-san...

[Wait- He's over fifty years old?? Better not ask about that one. That's kind of amazing...]

I think one of the first lessons we learn from heroes is that sometimes doing the right thing means leaving a story behind that might not have all the right details... Sometimes there isn't time between trying to protect who's important and stopping the danger and telling others what you need to do. I guess... Sometimes it's better to do what's right first. Even if it costs a lot.

[He smiles at Nanaki.]

I'm happy that you found out the truth. I think your father would be a hero in our culture just like he was for you and your tribe.

[feralhumanity]

[Nanaki looks at Izuku as he talks, brows raising in surprise. Eventually, his lips curl up into a feline smile, and he nods back at Izuku.]

Perhaps you are right. For someone so young, you speak with a lot of wisdom. And I am glad that you think so highly of him, as well.

[It truly was a good feeling, to speak of his father with pride.]

And is that what you strive for as well? To be a hero like the ones in your stories?
