Let’s make this day the best in the world | Valentine's Day Concert

Backstage

Backstage was a busy place during the whole concert. There were people getting ready, people helping people get ready and even just friends visiting them to wish them good luck (or to break a leg) or just help relieve some of the stage fright. Each artist or group had access to a room of their own if they needed some alone time. All they had to do was put up a sign that the room was in use.

On the stage

The theater stage was decorated with appropriate Valentine's Day decorations - roses, hearts and other simple, but meaningful things. The curtain would come down whenever someone needed time to prepare the stage to look different and there were several talented musicians helping out to bring live music to the stage.

As they say, they stage is for the performers to take as their own, one or several at a time.

In the audience

The audience has seatings for those who desire it, but there is also a space for anyone to stand and dance. There's plenty of space even if there is a section of the audience sectioned off for a... pool? Why was there a pool in the theater? Well, it certainly wasn't for just anyone to casually swim in but instead it was reserved for a special guest making an appearance at the concert.

The Lady of the Lake had been invited by Ren to watch the concert. To be fair, he had also invited King Arthur, Merlin and the Lady Morganna, but only the Lady of the Lake had accepted the invitation (although looking at Merlin's instagram afterwards may prove different, as he was there but just under a disguise).

Snacks and beverages are also being served at the theater lobby. Of course, since it was Valentine's Day, there was plenty of chocolate to go around.

After-party

While the after-party was mostly aimed at performers to celebrate a successful concert, no one was turned away from it. Anyone wanting to visit the party to congratulate on the success or to just chat with the performers was definitely welcome to.

The party was hosted at the theater too, since why not use the space you needed to clean up the next day anyway. Anyone was also welcome to join the clean up process the next day as well, but Ren certainly wouldn't force anyone to help out.

[ Several dozen strangers plopping into your home all at once is a valid excuse for being stressed and unapproachable, really. But the Lady is somebody Karma had been hoping to talk to, having left the bay as soon as possible and hadn't looked back, so surprised as he was at finding himself in the water and a glass bottle being pressed to his lips that he didn't register the potion as help. Whether or not the Lady remembers, Karma had spat the potion out instead of swallowing, had bit his tongue instead to keep the shock from settling in, and had escaped the water nearly frostbitten.

Here, he's bundled up nice and warm, with a cup of hot chocolate held in both hands, crouching down next to the pool. ]

Hey, it's you from before. Never got the chance to say thanks!

Hey, you didn't die.

[ Her tone sounds pleasantly surprised-- she remembers. There's only so much she can do for people who refuse help, so that was on him. Looks like he made it, so he's either a survivor or really lucky.

She leans over to see what he's got, then relaxes back in the pool. ]

Jog my memory of your name.

Still alive!

[ Surprised as he was to be dumped into the lake, he isn't surprised to be alive; tenacity is a strong suit of his. And, if he's offended by her not knowing his name, he doesn't show it and has no reason to— all this means to him is that she's just somebody who fishes people out, and doesn't hand pick them specifically. ]

I'm Karma Akabane. And you're... Nimuë? Viviane? Or do you just go by "The Lady?"

Wouldn't you like to know.

[ She gives him a little laugh, propping her elbow on the edge of the pool and her chin on the palm of her hand. ]

Giving someone your true name can be dangerous if you run into the wrong kind of magic. Why do you think your familiars go with whatever name you decide they're called?

I thought maybe they're tired of people butchering the native tongue and the nickname is less effort?

[ But nah, his familiar is a proud one— quiet for the most part, content to watch the world through Karma's eyes and intervene very rarely. He figures they're a lot alike, and wouldn't tolerate being called something stupid unless the alternative is more dangerous.

He takes a sip of his drink, tentatively reaching out with his cognitive magic without real high hopes that it would work on the Lady. ]

I'm kinda flattered you think I'm dangerous enough to be wary around, though? But I'm just some normal kid, you know? There's really no harm in telling me your name.

That, too.

[ He's a cheeky one. It works, sort of. She's been around a lot longer than a kid with a hefty pair on him, and not human at that; she can feel it's happening, and divert her answer to both fulfill the hypnosis and avoid answering. ]

My name is the Lady of the Lake. I have many names, and you've been told one. [ He really should be more specific. Loopholes abound. ] I can feel every ounce of water in this world, including in your body, so how about you watch your magic and I'll watch mine.

[ She twirls her finger, using her magic to stir the liquids inside of his stomach to make her point. Harmlessly, but enough that he should be able to feel it. ]

[ With that sort of answer, he can't tell whether his magic worked or not- or whether it's him not being able to use his magic to full effect or whether it's because the Lady of the Lake isn't effected by it. That little experiment of his tells him little more than the fact that she can tell when it's being used, and that maybe he shouldn't use it on her. Maybe. ]

Ugh. I got it, I got it! But if you can control that, it's not gonna be my fault if I accidentally hurl into your pool, alright?

[ Leave his stomach alone!! She could have made her point by making the hot chocolate in his cup dance or something. ]

I live in a lake, you think I've never seen something gross before?

[ She does leave him alone though. Now that they've come to that understanding she scoots a little closer. ]

You've got guts though. You have to know I'm millennia more experienced than you.

I don't doubt it! All these people peeing in your lake all the time.

[ WHY is she scooting closer... He takes another sip of his drink, wondering if she can feel the hot chocolate slide down his throat. Now he's going to feel self conscious all the time. ]

Anyways, it's because you're more experienced that I can do it. After all, I'm no threat to you.

[ Being weaker, there is no need for him to hold back. If he feared for his life, he doesn't think the Lady would be one to kill him. ]

[ Yeah and fish poop and people trying to send their loves ones off on a pyre over the water and... she lets it go. ]

Anyone with my original name can summon me, and you seem like the kind of guy who'd start handing it out to everyone for no other reason than to push buttons.

[ Just based on their brief conversation so far, pushing buttons seems to be his favorite hobby. ]

You don't have to be a threat to do that.

[ Yeah, he loves buttons, the brighter red the better. Karma has to laugh at her assessment, though, because it's half true and half isn't. ]

Aw, I wouldn't do that! With how much power wielding your name is, I'd be stupid not to at least monetize that!

Greedy.

[ She laughs too though. She hums under her breath after, though. ]

I have two tips. Do you want them?

[ Money is power! And Karma so does love having the upper hand in whatever situation he finds himself in. ]

Who am I to turn you down? Lay 'em on me.

The first is: when hypnotizing someone, if they are aware you're compelling them, they can fulfill the order by any means that fits the word of the hypnosis even if they can't resist it. Say exactly what you want and even someone more experienced could have trouble.

[ Is it obvious she likes him yet? Despite that he's trying to push her buttons, she's actually the playful sort. Telling him this sounds like fun. ]

[ Helpful, too, to be aware that he must be very careful to be precise with his words, and only only when he's making fun. ]

And more helpful than I expected! In fact, why don'tcha tell me three more useful tips about how to use my magic?

[ Worth a try? ]

[ She laughs. What a brat he is. She's gonna hold him under the water if he tries it again. She holds up her fingers. ]

You cannot make someone do something they're against deep down in their core. [ two ] You can't change someone's entire dreamscape when you dreamwalk, but with some practice, you can create items with your thoughts within the dream. [ And three: ] You can't make other people think things, but you can change the voice you're thinking in your own head, so if you can imagine yourself talking in another voice, you can sometimes trick people into thinking your thoughts are theirs.

[ She puts her hands back in the water and shakes her head at him. ]

Now that you've done that, if you try again, I'll have to pull you into this pool and pull you right through to the White Cliffs and you can walk home. And I'm not giving you the treasure map I was going to send to your bathroom sink as my second tip.

[ Oh, that is very fun... For however much he laments his magic not being volatile enough in combat, he really has no need for anything more than his fists and his wits when going up against an opponent, human or monster. But a magic that lets him persuade and get into people's heads is a magic that exudes power and control— and best of all, staves off boredom. Because there's nothing worse than a boring existence.

The Lady is anything but boring, and Karma can't help but feel like he's playing right into the palm of her hands. Who can blame him? Tips he hasn't gotten out of anybody else or all the books he's able to find on the subject, and the tantalizing promise of a treasure map...

Goddamn he wants that treasure map. He feels like such a middle schooler, but!! ]

Heh... No magic from me, for now, then! [ With the "for now" sort of slid in there just in case, since she's such a stickler for precise wording ] What if I just ask for that treasure map, pretty please?

I did say you were greedy.

[ She's just teasing him, of course. Well, the treasure map really does exist, but she's not inclined to give it to him now. ]

Let's see.. you're cogni so.. how about you hypnotize a different otherworlder to send me a different snack from Camelot for 7 days in a row. They all have to be edible, tasty, in tact, and safe to eat. Nothing that is not in a standard recipe for those snacks. No tricks. You cannot ask their permission first. If I get all 7 because your hypnotism is strong enough it hasn't been broken 7 days in a row at a distance, I'll give it to you.

[ She'll definitely tell each of the people who show up that it was Karma's fault and he can deal with the probably very annoyed people, but she really does have a treasure map. But he seems like the type who would find this fun, anyway. If he's gonna play with her, she's gonna play with him. ]

Haha! Who's the greedy one here?

[ Wow! look at her requesting an entourage of food in exchange for a treasure map. It's fair, though, thinking through the criteria she lays out, and the incentive to practice his magic is clear as well— it would be a waste of his time and energy to start hypnotizing people right away without a strong grasp of his magic, and would only net the Lady intermittent free snacks in the meantime. It's like something Koro-sensei would come up with, he thinks to himself, where in focusing on the end goal, you inadvertently grow in all other aspects of your life in the process. ]

You got yourself a deal.

[ Spoilers: he plans to have people send her spicy snacks. They will be edible, tasty, in tact, and safe to eat. Just very very spicy, because she never specified who has to think they're tasty (': Karma thinks they're tasty. It counts. ]

All I'm asking for is snacks and a little fun, you get treasure!

[ She can't even use the treasure map since she can't leave the water, though.

She doesn't usually get a lot of spices in the lake, so she's gonna definitely have a time with that. ]

I look forward to it. Once you're sure the last one's delivered, fill your bath with water and I'll send you the map.

[ What she needs to do is get a list of everybody who did the elf parade quest, because those are the people who would hoist a plastic kiddie pool onto their shoulders and have her join on a treasure hunting adventure. ]

Sure, sure~ Better keep that map at the ready, and don't give it to anybody else! I won't keep you waiting long.

[ He's never done anything magic before in his life. But who cares! Where he lacks talent, Karma's always been a hard worker, and more than makes up for things in that way. ]

It's not going anywhere. You should though. Don't tell me you're planning on spending this whole concert with someone like me?

[ He should go have fun with the concert! ]

I could. You have one of the best seats in the house, and concerts by design can be heard anywhere in the room.

[ Honestly, he came here for the snacks and general curiosity, not with any real interest or knowledge of who is all performing. He got to talk to The Lady! That more than makes up for the time spent being here. ]

They should've told you people to wear a bathing suit, you could hop in.

[ It's still super cold out, so that's probably not the best idea for people who don't live in a lake 24/7. ]

[ Bathing suits at a Valentines concert... There are probably party planners out here that could make it work. ]

Hey, do you have to be submerged in water, or can any amount do?

[ He points up to the ceiling where there are maybe fire sprinklers. There should be! or there would be OSHA violations all around. ]
