Catch all for May
🧙 WHO: Jade Leech (
mushroomaficionado) and you!
⚔️️ WHAT: Quests: Scary Sea Shanties, Tik Tok Challenge and the TDM!Craft fair
🕒 WHEN: Throughout May
🗺️ WHERE: All around
⚠️ WARNINGS: Nothing so far, will add as they come up
Scary Sea Shanties
[Jade had taken on the quest largely because he had mistakenly thought his merform would have an advantage if he got pulled in. And well he had been pulled in but hadn't anticipated getting zapped and it's taken him a moment to shake off the effect of it, even if he hadn't been hit full force.]
It almost makes... me wish... I was an... electric eel.. instead...
[Jade's able to heal himself enough to recover but he still feels shaky. He turns to you, his companion, who may or may not still be on the boat.]
How long until we can put her in her place?
TikTok Challenge
So I was wondering... [Jade said as he snapped a picture of a piece of steel wool and then glanced at his companion with a smile] ...if you would like to make this whole adventure a little more interesting? Not that the potential curse isn't intriguing on its own, but I believe it would be even more exciting to add a little wager to the adventure.
[He gives a smile, one that doesn't entirely hide his sharp teeth, but hopefully looks a little less threatening.]
I was thinking maybe whoever snaps the next picture first is owed a favor by the loser. What do you say?
Craft Fair: Tie the Knot
[Jade's a bit annoyed because he should have been more alert, but here he is tied to another person and he is supposed to share a secret with them?
Normally he'd relish the chance to find information on someone, but it being a mutual thing takes the fun out of it for him and he's trying to figure out how small a secret he can reveal.]
They sure are clever with these trust-building exercises, are they not?
Wildcard
[Feel free to modify any of the above prompts as you see fit! Also Jade hit up the other two events at the craft fair, so feel free to have fun with those!
I'm not sure if I'm going to top-level in the current event thread or not, but he will have gone along to Bermuda station, so if anyone has any ideas, throw them at me, or message and we can come up with something!
He will have also been around the job fair, since he works at Azul's restaurant and will be investigating other businesses, so that's another avenue.
But if you need to contact me, feel free to pm this journal, or message me at discord (Joy#8142) or plurk (

[Kotarou starts to stroke his grin with a mischievous grin on his face. Now what could he make this guy do? Decisions would have to come later... He might've seemed on the shady side, but whatever he could cook up wouldn't be that bad.]
How many items did you find so far, anyway? I'm up to three myself.
no subject
I believe I have three myself as well! So we'd be on even footing.
no subject
[Taking out his phone, Kotarou will be pause as he looks at the list for the next item that was up.]
Alright... So our next target happens to be a toy pick axe according to the list. It might a little difficult finding something that small, but that's the fun of an adventure!
no subject
[Toy pickaxe seems to be very specific in terms of the types of toys they could be looking for.]
But regardless, we should be off. And may the best man win.
tie the knot
.. on the other hand, what's done is done now, right? There's no point in whining about this entire thing when they're already stuck together in the first place - a surprisingly mature thought for Minako, but maybe it's since the entire topic of secrets makes her mind go in a more serious and mature direction in the first place.
Luckily for Jade. No whining to endure now! ]
Sounds about par for the course for this place.. [ Minako says, instead just letting out a sigh as she waves her free hand. ] So.. should we just get it over with then? Or did you have some sort of clever plan?
[ That's not even meant in any sarcastic way! If you can use your Big Brain here, Jade, then Minako will gladly go along with it. ]
no subject
But well, it's still not desirable, and more than that, the difference in height between them is enough to make it extra awkward and he's doing his best to be something of a gentleman about it.]
I would say if we could find some way to make it so someone else would have to give up a secret instead, but I suspect that it doesn't work that way. Not against this kind of binding spell.
[Sorry to let you down Minako, but the big brain fails in the face of old magics like this.]
But let us at least make sure we cannot be eavesdropped on first before we decide on a course of action. There are too many people here for comfort.
no subject
On the other hand, Minako doesn't exactly blame him for not knowing some sneaky way out of this when Minako can't figure one out herself, no matter how hard she tries to think about it. So she instead just nods, resigning herself to her fate before looking around them after that last thing he mentions. ]
I guess.. over there should be quiet. [ She gestures with her head in the direction of a nearby alleyway. People generally don't seem to be going near there, let alone in there, so.. ] Whatever we say there, it should be only the two of us who hear it.
[ Even if they can't fully avoid this situation, they can at least make it as painless as possible, right? Even Minako seems to be treating this relatively seriously, look at her go. It's probably got to do with how little she likes the idea of sharing secrets, especially when it's not on her own terms. ]
no subject
Once they're away from prying eyes, he sighs.]
So a secret, is it? I suspect one could just relate something very foolish and have it over with, but somehow even that seems rather frustrating, doesn't it?
[This is a little honest for him actually, but it feels appropriate at this juncture, especially with Minako.]
no subject
But what she is saying is true. That's why she'd rather be back home in her own world, rather than stuck here. This place and the various creatures and magic in it just loves forcing people a little bit too much. ]
Maybe we should just say something small and insignificant. That's our only way to stand up against this, right? To not give it the kind of drama it might want. [ Even if it's a very dumb kind of rebellion.
But Minako will take all small bits where she can get them. ]
no subject
[Not minding being a relative thing, but going first and going last have their downsides. Going last would allow him to react accordingly to her secret. Going first allows him to set the atmosphere.]
I promise though I am a gentleman either way and will not use such information without a good cause.
[He's even being honest. Not about the gentleman part though.]
no subject
Minako is honestly.. not entirely sure about the last part of what he's saying. It doesn't even have anything to do with Jade as a person. She didn't particularly trust or distrust him more than your average person. But Minako has always been so cagey about her secrets, and for good reason, that she never quite feels at ease with telling them to others. Not knowing what they might do with it, or how it might change their view of them.
It's probably that fact that leads her, after a moment of thinking, to say: ]
You can go first. We'll both need to do it before we're free, anyway. [ So it's not like Minako could skip her way out of this after he tells his secret. That's at least not a potential downside to going first.
But she'd still like to be a little cautious here and see what kind of tone or secret level he's planning on setting first before saying anything herself. ]

Scary Sea Shanties
Those claws on the other hand...
But at least the were both fast and agile under water, they should be able to keep their distance until they were ready to strike.] I donno, what your greeny magic thingy do? [No doubt Jade has told him already, but he either wasn't listening at the time or didn't bother remembering it right now.]
no subject
A lot of little things. I could probably try to entangle her in the seaweed or even the algae somehow, but we have to keep her distracted so I can do it before she notices.
[He was still developing his skills, so it wasn't as fast as Jade would like. At least not for this situation.] Think you can preoccupy her for a moment? You are always so good at making a scene.
I sadly only have one mer icon >:
The ideal thing to do was draw the Hag out into a place they had the advantage, or have a place to strike from at the right time. And Floyd would rather use someone else as bait... however, for his brother,] Yeah, I can do that. [Putting on a grin, trusting Jade completely. His brother would have a plan, and even if it didn't fully work out, Floyd was very good at making the most out of a situation. It was both of their strengths put together.]
:(
Then if you could make it flashy...
[He knows that Floyd will indeed cover for him. His brother always manages to see a way out even when there shouldn't be one.] But let us get started then. [He curls his hand as he starts using that strange magic that Avalon has given him, drawing in the green things that rest below the surface. It'll take time though, thanks to the water still being a little too chilly for living things]
no subject
Floyd grinned away with how Jade put it.] Okayy~! [He's not quite sure what he's planning to do yet, but Floyd would just make it up as he went along. As normal.
He darts away from Jade, making sure to flip his tail a bit more, to create more ripples through the water and to get the Storm Hag's attention on him and off Jade. That does include some risks, getting a bit closer to try and get her to lash out towards him, but far enough away so he can get away as needed. And also to try and break line of sight to Jade. Out of sight out of mind, right?]
Heeeyyy~, electric eel, you really donno who you're messing with, do ya? Or maybe I should call you hag fish instead, that sounds more suitable for you. [Clearly part of Floyd's plan was to irritate her into distraction, while also darting away as her claws got too close to him. After all, an angry person tends to act rather than think, and that's what he needs right now. No thinking of why they split up, only acting to try and get rid of him.]
Or maybe a deflated blob fish!
no subject
Floyd has always had a talent for irritating others and it was in full force here. It was one of the reasons Jade liked working with his brother so much. Not only was it entertaining to watch Floyd act up, but it allowed Jade to melt into the background.
Once Jade was content that he could work in relative peace, he poured more of his magic out, not only calling the greenery up but giving it more vigor, adding his healing magic into the mix. It took a bit of work but eventually, there was a large surge and a mass of green tendrils and and sludge, seaweed and various masses of algae swarmed the hag, binding her, causing a loud scream.]
Carful Floyd!
[He didn't have perfect control of it yet, so the last thing they needed was to risk Floyd being snagged as well.]
no subject
Letting out a long 'haaaa' of a laugh, Floyd gave a wave of his hand to activate his own magic he's been working on, giving himself a boost of speed to almost fling him away from her as Jade's attack hit her. It does send him spinning tail over head until he gets control again, still training himself to get used to this, and this being the first time he's tried it under water... but he's rather pleased the simple 'push' spell worked on him.
He let out a louder and longer laugh at this all.] You got her! She all netted up! [That was great! Oh, wait... if it is like a net... hmm.] Can she bite through it?! [He yelled towards Jade as Floyd started making his way back to his brother, not seeming to care or be aware saying that might be a poor choice of words and give her ideas...]

Tie the Knot
Yeah. Real clever.
[He huffed a sigh.]
So, who goes first?
[He looked less than willing.]
no subject
I can go first if that is alright? It's best to move through these things quickly and show no hesitation.
[People he doesn't know as well can probably get by on lighter secrets.]
no subject
Alright.
[Not that he would have minded going first once he got past the initial hesitation. After all, he was trying to think of what he had in the way of a secret here that he honestly wasn't just really open about anyway. He didn't like sharing things, but that didn't mean he kept things secret on purpose.
Plus, if he'd gone first, he could have just ripped off the proverbial band-aid. Now, it was more like delaying the inevitable. But, in all fairness, he had left it up to the other person.]
no subject
Very well then...
[The problem with someone you aren't well acquainted with is that everything is technically a secret, but at the same time that also frees him up a bit.]
...I once borrowed my friend's textbooks without telling him when we were in Middle School. He spent three days stressed out wondering who broke into his little hideout to take them. I finally put them back without him ever finding out the truth.
[Okay there, appropriately harmless, and if somehow Azul finds out about this, he'll probably forgive Jade. Or more likely offer a long-suffering sigh.]
no subject
Sounds like something I would have done.
[Okay... so he supposed that meant it was his turn. He thought about it, shifting his eyes to one side as he did, taking a little bit of time before he spoke.]
I mean... I don't know if it could really be considered a secret because I don't exactly hide it, but it's not something I've shared with a lot of people here, so maybe it counts.
But, my mom's a space alien.
[He shrugged. Keith didn't exactly have secrets. He rarely hid things when asked unless it was an enemy interrogation situation, which this wasn't. But, he also just wasn't something who automatically just shared stuff about himself, so there was still a lot people didn't know about him... not because he held it in on purpose, but because he wasn't the type to usually talk about himself.]
no subject
So only on your mother's side? Your father is a human I take it?
[Unique unions between species are not uncommon in his homeworld of course. It's what happens when you're all mingling about like that. And in his Ocean, the tale of the Mermaid Princess and her human Prince is still beloved for many reasons.
But alien, huh? That's an interesting way of putting it.]
no subject
Yeah. Dad said I look a lot like she would have if she was human. [Sometimes, Keith didn't really see the resemblance, but that was likely because she was almost seven feet tall and purple.]
