Scary Sea Shanties

[Jade had taken on the quest largely because he had mistakenly thought his merform would have an advantage if he got pulled in. And well he had been pulled in but hadn't anticipated getting zapped and it's taken him a moment to shake off the effect of it, even if he hadn't been hit full force.]

It almost makes... me wish... I was an... electric eel.. instead...

[Jade's able to heal himself enough to recover but he still feels shaky. He turns to you, his companion, who may or may not still be on the boat.]

How long until we can put her in her place?

TikTok Challenge

So I was wondering... [Jade said as he snapped a picture of a piece of steel wool and then glanced at his companion with a smile] ...if you would like to make this whole adventure a little more interesting? Not that the potential curse isn't intriguing on its own, but I believe it would be even more exciting to add a little wager to the adventure.

[He gives a smile, one that doesn't entirely hide his sharp teeth, but hopefully looks a little less threatening.]

I was thinking maybe whoever snaps the next picture first is owed a favor by the loser. What do you say?

Craft Fair: Tie the Knot

[Jade's a bit annoyed because he should have been more alert, but here he is tied to another person and he is supposed to share a secret with them?

Normally he'd relish the chance to find information on someone, but it being a mutual thing takes the fun out of it for him and he's trying to figure out how small a secret he can reveal.]

They sure are clever with these trust-building exercises, are they not?

[Feel free to modify any of the above prompts as you see fit! Also Jade hit up the other two events at the craft fair, so feel free to have fun with those!

I'm not sure if I'm going to top-level in the current event thread or not, but he will have gone along to Bermuda station, so if anyone has any ideas, throw them at me, or message and we can come up with something!

He will have also been around the job fair, since he works at Azul's restaurant and will be investigating other businesses, so that's another avenue.

[ Such a gentleman, Jade.

Minako is honestly.. not entirely sure about the last part of what he's saying. It doesn't even have anything to do with Jade as a person. She didn't particularly trust or distrust him more than your average person. But Minako has always been so cagey about her secrets, and for good reason, that she never quite feels at ease with telling them to others. Not knowing what they might do with it, or how it might change their view of them.

It's probably that fact that leads her, after a moment of thinking, to say: ]

You can go first. We'll both need to do it before we're free, anyway. [ So it's not like Minako could skip her way out of this after he tells his secret. That's at least not a potential downside to going first.

But she'd still like to be a little cautious here and see what kind of tone or secret level he's planning on setting first before saying anything herself. ]

[Well then, he wonders how inconsequential he should go. He could just go and tell a big secret, one that would force her to do the same. It's very tempting actually.

But if the terms of the agreement are to keep it small, then so be it. No matter what, you always keep to deals. It's something being in Octavinelle has taught him.]

Then I shall tell you this much: back home I can barely handle any sort of flying. Especially on a broom. Because of that, PE is one of the few classes I cannot handle.

[Embarrassing but not serious as far as secrets go. Not much of a secret back home to anyone who has ever seen him on a broom.]

[ Ah, so that's the standard he's setting, huh. Something that's mildly embarrassing, but nothing too terrible. Just the sort of thing you wouldn't exactly want to share with everyone for fun, even though it also can't really hurt if the truth would come out.

Minako can work with that, she supposes. ]

Wow, I guess we're total opposites then.

[ Not that Minako is much of a flyer, mind you - but she is the type whose best subject is PE.

She knows that's not much of a secret though. Anyone who'd see her for longer than five minutes would be able to tell that she's not quite as good at other subjects in school... ]

Wait, hold on just a second. [ She's not stalling! Just-- curious, especially since this realisation only seems to hit her a moment belatedly. ] Is broom flying such an important thing in your world?

[ Isn't that something only witches in stories do? ]

I can do well enough at exercise, but I'm a little too wary of how fast the land comes to meet you if you fall.

[Thin, hallow air that will not cradle you like waters of the ocean. Where you sink instead of fall into the seabed, which is usually so much softer than anything above.]

Oh, flying magic is a very important skill for a Magician where I am from. Brooms are the most common medium for it. We do it in our PE classes since it is an outdoor activity and you need muscle strength to fly better.

I can do it, of course, mind you, flying, but I'm always anxious during it. When I go home, I probably won't have any need for it.

[ Huh.

Even though they're only sharing small secrets here, it's like she's suddenly learning a whole lot more about Jade here than necessarily anticipated. He's apparently a magician - like.. just a magic user, like a wizard or something? - and is going for a school for magicians?

It's nothing too secret or scandalous, but hey, it's still more information about the other that Minako quickly mentally processes. ]

Well, I'm glad that you won't have to do it anymore later on, if it makes you so anxious..

[ She sounds pretty genuine about being glad about that. It's not like she'd want anyone to feel anxious. ]

Though.. you know, it's kind of hard to imagine you getting anxious! [ MINAKO, PLEASE. M-Maybe that's a little too blunt, but that's just since she's being honest here in the first place... ]

Really? Well I am delighted to give off that impression. Most people would share that assessment back home.

[HOnestly he prefers it if most people think of him that way. Gentle and even servile on occasion, because it makes it much easier to shock them.

That said, being open to this extent doesn't hurt at all here. A slightly different image can be useful and he is fond of Minako.]

...though now enough about me, isn't it your turn?

[But enough giving things away. It's time to satisfy his own curiosity.]

Hmmm.. A secret, huh...

[ Minako hums for another moment. It's not even stalling, it's just.. her not exactly being sure of what to say here. She can think of lots of secrets really easily, but most of them are on a slightly deeper and sadder level than what Jade himself just confessed to, and it'd just make things weird if she deviated from the scale he just set up.

So she scans her memories, trying to think of something that's not too deep, but not too obvious either.

It takes a moment or two, but then she seems to remember something. It might be an old memory, since something about the look in her eyes is fairly distant for a moment, but then she slightly laughs. ]

Oh, this one is super embarrassing! [ Kind of. It's more just.. a little sad too, but it's the kind of sad where she can bury it underneath just looking flustered, with a smile on her face. ] My first kiss was with a guy who thought I was someone else. Isn't that totally awkward?

[Well that's not a serious secret thankfully and he's glad she's kept to the same level. Otherwise, things could have been problematic. Though he can hint the slightest bit of embarrassment though that's understandable in this situation.]

Someone else? Do you mean he was wearing a mask? Or is it a case of him having a twin brother as well?

[He's curious now and trying to decide how to pry without being too harsh. There's no reason to change the atmosphere after all.]

Oh, no, no, he thought I was someone else!

[ Though she can see how her wording would have made that confusing, so she doesn't linger on it. Instead Minako waves a dismissive hand, quick to continue with: ]

I happened to really look like the person he loved in that moment. [ .. through magical means.

But even though she technically doesn't have to keep that part secret anymore in this place, Minako can't help it. It's a habit, and those die hard. She doesn't even realise she's omitting it. ]

So he kissed me, thinking I was that person, and thinking he was confessing his feelings to her. It was so awkward that I couldn't even tell him about the mix up!

...I see. That would be a bit embarrassing, wouldn't it?

[He's not sure if he can relate, since he'd have just taken that info and saved it for later. OR else he'd have just outright destroyed them. But still, he has to shake his head.]

Though I have to wonder what happened when you told him the truth? Assuming you did?

[On one hand, Minako seems like the kind of girl to be forthright when it comes to such matters, on the other hand, Jade has realized more and more that she does hold back on a lot. It's interesting.]

[ It was definitely embarrassing. And more than a little bit painful.

But Minako is working very heavily here to present this story as mostly just the former, and not really the latter. Hence why she's smiling as she's talking about it. ]

No, I didn't. Somehow the two of them got together because of what happened! [ It makes the girl shake her head as she says it. ] I figured that it was better to just let it be that way. Sure, I liked him too, but.. they seemed so happy together. They deserved it.

[ Even if their relationship started because of a dumb little misunderstanding like that.

But sometimes that's just how things go, Minako has found.

She's not so sure if Jade is sentimental enough to really understand all of this, but.. well, still. She's living up to her end of the deal by telling him all this. ]

[He doesn't entirely understand no, but then again he's the type to carry a grudge when he feels genuinely wronged. And that would indeed make him feel wronged.]

I see. That does sound like quite the experience. I don't think I could be so accepting, but you are the Goddess of Love so you would have a different perspective.

[He lifts his arm and notices that the rope has loosened.] Goodness, our bonds are finally undone. Though perhaps this did do what was intended, in terms of strengthening bonds.

I certainly feel more knowledgeable when it comes to you. [His tone is teasing now because the evil has been defeated in a manner of speaking.]

Hey, don't use such a great and terrible secret against a cute girl like me!

[ That's definitely said with enough dramatics in her voice that it doesn't sound like Minako really means it. Mostly since she thinks nothing about it could be used for evil in the first place. It's not like it's even the only story about a terrible love incident she has.. She's so used to them by now that sharing them didn't feel like actually baring some deep or dark secret.

She pulls back her arm though now it's loose, rubbing it as if she needs that to process the fact that they're truly free. ]

This just means you and I have a special bond now!

[ She's just making this up on the spot, huh. ]

That means you can't betray me, no matter what! And I can't betray you either! [ ... at least she's making it a mutual thing. ]

[This girl. Seriously.

Just seriously.

He has half a mind to tell her exactly why this is such a terrible notion to have. Especially when it comes to him. That would probably be the right thing to do.

But he ultimately decides to go and be himself, as always.]

Oh, are we co-conspirators now? Because I will hold you to that, whatever the future holds.

[This is fun too though. And it will hopefully be useful in its own way.]

[ She says it so easily too.. Most people would definitely have hesitation about it, but Minako doesn't. She just smiles as if her answer is all-natural.

Something she doesn't even have to think about. ]

I mean, I'd help you out anyway if you were in trouble, you know? [ .. that part, at least, sounded surprisingly genuine.. ]

Then as my friend might say, we have a verbal contract between us.

[Well at least he does try and keep his word. At least the letter of it.]

But now that we have shared our secrets, do you want to get something to eat? I'm famished.

[There's all kinds of food to wolf down around here, so they might as well enjoy themselves.]

[ Minako may be very similar to Usagi in a lot ways, but she's definitely less of a food fiend..

But when they're here.. well, it'd be a shame to leave without eating anything, especially when someone is offering to grab some together. So Minako smiles, easily agreeing with a nod. ]
