[Keith looked over his shoulder at the vegetables... creatures? whatever they were... in question.]

Yeah. Gotta say, that's a new one for me.

[And, yet, somehow, he still didn't sound all that surprised.]

Yeah, same. [ Still, she'll run with it. This world just seems to run on the principle of "Why not?" ] I don't know whether I find them cute, or if they're just making me hungry.

[ Of course she's not going to eat them, but she's thinking maybe she should've brought a sandwich. ]

[Keith watched them for a moment and then shrugged.]

I dunno. I mean, if it was an actual salad, maybe, but... not like this. Though, I'm not really sure if they're cute, either.

I am kind of curious why people like them so much, though.

[pricklybloom]

[ She shrugs herself. ] I mean...I guess they do make other people hungry? And it's not like they're difficult to catch.

[ Although really, she'd think it'd just be easier getting lettuce at a store if people were really hungry. ]

I guess it's just one of those things where they're alive, so saying you caught one to make into a dish makes them a sought-after delicacy.

[Lettuce at the store or from a garden would definitely be easier.]

Maybe. I mean, it does make it a challenge, I suppose. And exotic, in a way.

[pricklybloom]

I guess. People do pay more money for things that are exotic.

[ Even if it doesn't always make sense. ]

I guess that's why they need protection. They don't really look like they can defend themselves.

No, they don't. And if they're edible and not poisonous, well... [He shrugged a little.] I wonder if there's a way to have them available, but more sustainable? Like uh... raising cattle or something.

[pricklybloom]

That's an idea. But there will always still be some people who prefer to hunt them for the sake of it. [ Because some people are just like that. ] Still, if there was a farm for raising some of them, they might not be as sought after, and it would give people less of a reason to go out of their way to hunt them.

Yeah... probably. But I think you're right. It would definitely reduce some of the poaching if we could do it that way.

[He considered that for a moment.]

I wonder who we'd even talk to about that. And like... would these be considered animals or plants?

[ She pauses a moment, going back to watch the...creatures(?). ]

...I have no idea. [ She hadn't even thought about that. ]

They don't seem smart enough to understand me... I have animal magic, but I can't seem to talk to them. [He was honestly curious.]

Hmm...does animal magic work on bugs? [ They were - part? - butterfly, after all. ]

Or maybe we should see if we can find someone with green magic? [ Would they be able to understand them better? ]

Mm... I haven't really tried.

[Green magic, huh? Pidge had ended up with that type the first time she was in Avalon, but he honestly didn't know anyone with it now.]

Maybe. That's another direction to go in. I don't know anyone with that, though. But I do know they can understand plants.

Yeah. I know...of people with green magic, but no one who I'd ask personally.

[ So...back to square one then. ]

But clearly someone knows about these things. That's how the task was put on the board in the first place, right?

Oh... you know? That's a good point. Maybe the person who posted the notice would have some ideas, then.

[It was a start, right?]

Yeah. Maybe we can try to get in touch with them and see if they have more information about these lettuce butterflies. They should have left some contact info on the board, I think?

[ Since this is a paid task, there had to be some way to reach out to someone in order to get compensation. ]

Yeah. [Keith nodded.] It's though that app. We might be able to get in touch with them that way.

[It was something to look into.]

I wonder how long this has to go on, though. The guarding. I mean, I'm sure something like what we're thinking will take some time to work out. But, it would be good if we could get it going before next season.

I think it said something about the butterfly moving on for their migration. [ She pulls out her phone to check. ] Though I doubt we have to be here that entire time. It seems that there were a lot of people offering help for this quest, so they'll probably have us work in shifts.

Oh, yeah... definitely. I mean, it would be kinda mean to expect someone to stay here the whole time with no break.

[And Keith wasn't the type to handle that sort of duty for longer than necessary.]
