January Open Log
🧙 WHO: Claire Redfield & YOU
⚔️️ WHAT: Open Log for January
🕒 WHEN: January!
🗺️ WHERE: All over the island
⚠️ WARNINGS: Possible violence, and Claire's usual warning for talk of zombies, viral outbreaks, and body horror.
A. White Cliffs
Claire had not missed the influx of new people, and she'd taken to helping where she could, namely by gathering up supplies and going to the beach, but that was only a single day's worth of work. She also spent a fair bit of time around the White Cliffs, mainly because it was an out of the way place she could work.
Magic was something new, and she was still working through ways to make it work without backfiring. Plus there was experimenting with combining it with things she was familiar with...like her gun. Which wasn't great for doing around people, so the isolated spot she's in feels right.
Anyone out by the Cliffs will probably hear the repeated barks of gunshots, as well as the bark of an actual canine. Following the sound will lead them to Claire, standing a safe distance from the edge and aiming a gun at a target sitting on a rock. Beside her, sitting within arms reach, is her familiar. The huge black dog's eyes turn to anyone approaching, and...his tongue lolls out in a doggy smile that prompts Claire to turn around.
"...Hey."
B. Bridge Trolls
Never let it be said that Claire wasn't ready to fight, and never let it be said that she wasn't fully prepared to retreat if things got rough. Especially if there was a trap she'd set up. The sharp bark of gunfire and the general sounds of combat are pretty easy to make out, but likely drowned out by heavy footfalls moving up a hill on the Western road to Camelot.
Sprinting full tilt over the hill ahead of the noise comes Claire, her familiar a dark blur at her side. She's breathing heavy, but other than that, unharmed.
"Shit!" she yells when she sees someone atop the hill. "Hey! Run! I've got a couple of trolls following me, and you do not wanna get caught by 'em."
C. Shadlin Showdown
The call to investigate had caught Claire's attention even after the harrowing troll battle, and she wasn't about to miss out on that. She had an explorer's heart, and so that meant ignoring the call was not an option. She and her familiar made the trek fairly quickly, but when they reached the intimidating wall of trees that was the Dusklight Woods, she found herself staring.
The massive forest gave off a dangerous feel, a place that probably shouldn't be intruded upon, and even her familiar seemed a bit intimidated by it. Frowning, hand on her gun, she forced herself to move forward into the shadow of the treeline, but no farther yet. Breathing in, she looked around and spotted another would be explorer.
"Creepy place, huh?"
D. Wildcard
I'm happy to set up closed starters, or do any number of other things. If you have something you want to do with Claire that isn't listed, drop me a starter! Alternatively, hit me up on Plurk at

White Cliff
He figured the cliffs would be the perfect spot as it would be quieter. However, it seemed that someone else had the same idea. When he heard gunshots nearby, his instincts immediately went into overdrive as he placed his spear in front of him. Fearing what this strange person would do, he was mentally preparing himself for battle as he walked closer toward the sound.
Although, that didn't seem to be the case as he saw a dog (...was it a dog?) approaching him. That caught him off guard as he wasn't sure what it wanted. But when heard a familiar voice?
"...Claire-san? What are you doing shooting with a gun?"
no subject
Seeing that it's Ken, she flashes a quick smile, waving with her free hand and walking closer.
"Target practice? I'm mostly getting used to the spell that one of the locals put on it to make it so I can shoot magic bullets."
She's American, Ken. Guns are normal.
no subject
As he lowered his spear, he gave a small sigh of relief. At least he was glad to see she was safe and no one was hurt. "I see, then has it worked so far?" He said before looking at said gun. "Or better yet, what kind of magic can it do?"
no subject
Clipping the leather thong over the grip to keep the gun in place, Claire drops to a knee to start scratching her familiar's head. He'd done good, warning her when someone was coming.
"I bought that spell to use my magic instead of normal bullets, so I guess it uses dark magic like I do? It's nice to not worry about ammunition."

B. Bridge Trolls
"Claire! Are you hurt? Please allow me to heal you!" the words tumbled out before she even realized the close proximity of the trolls as her concern was more on her friend than her own safety; a common occurrence with the princess.
no subject
Claire skitters to a halt, reaching to grab Zelda's hand and starting to tug her away.
"Just...got some trolls chasing after me. I set a trap for them, and got them riled up, so I'm trying to lead 'em there."
A roar echoes just over the hill.
"Let's go!"
A.
When he hears the gunshot, he approaches with caution, making sure to stay within the line of sight of the shooter as much as possible so he or she (she, it turns out) won't think he's trying to sneak up on her. Once he's acknowledged, he raises a hand in greeting, his own familiar closing the distance between them before he does, cantering at a leisurely pace.
"Good morning." He gestures towards her firearm, asking, "What have you got there?"
no subject
"An SLS 60," she answers automatically, the gun-person in her coming out. "Just a standard 9 millimeter sidearm," she adds after thinking better of letting that sit.
"What brings you out here?"
no subject
"Same thing as you," comes his response, as he turns his body to show the Steyr AUG assault rifle slung carefully over his shoulder. It's an outdated looking model, depending on what time Claire might be from, late seventies or thereabouts.
"I think I saw you," he says, now that he's close enough to get a better look at her face. "On the beach, handing out supplies?" He'd been a little too preoccupied to engage with anyone just then, but in hindsight, the gesture is appreciated.
no subject
Brushing stray hairs from her face, she nods in reply to his query, free hand settling on her familiar's head and scratching at it.
"Yep. That was me." She sticks out a hand in greeting. "Claire Redfield. Sorry if I missed you down there, I ended up running into a kid from my world and needed to get her medical attention."

C.
"It's just an investigation, right?"
no subject
Claire gives him a look, in particular the bat, but nods in answer to his question.
"It is. I can't imagine we'll find too much on the outskirts of the forest. But they keep warning about monsters, and those can't all be rumors."
no subject
Kaiba braces himself for the worst, eyes and ears alert. He's not consciously picking up anything off, but...he can feel it, a sense of foreboding.
"Any signs on your end?"
no subject
Claire looks down at her familiar, the big hound trotting ahead with his nose to the ground, snuffling like crazy. Claire pulls a face when it looks back at her, whining and sharing its thoughts.
"...But he says a bear was nearby a while ago. Apparently bear shit smell lingers."
She's classy, Kaiba.

B is for Bridge Trolls 🎶
He spots the girl he met around the carriages when he arrived and, considering the gunshots, she's in danger. Which makes him panic because he's not good at this. Which in turn instantly alerts his familiar, woman with braided brown hair, clasped on the back of her head, wearing Greek toga and harp in her hands.
"Trolls!?"
She doesn't need to tell him twice- he does wait for her to catch up because he can't just leave her behind (even though she obviously doesn't need help) and starts running with her.
"Those things are real?!"
It's slipping his mind that they are on an enchanted island and that this is probably a norm but- this is not HIS usual norm. He flexes his fingers, however, in case he needs to send any trolls that catch up with them flying.
no subject
Claire yells back, trotting quickly and keeping pace despite being on the short side.
Behind them the ground rumbles, shaking as something large comes over the rise of the hill.
"I set a trap up ahead, was aiming to get them to that stand of trees. Just...wasn't expecting company!"
no subject
"They are chasing after us?! I can't fight- I mean! I have kinetic magic but that's it!"
He has no knife, or sword, or gun, or explosives (!?). Uenoyama has a feeling like he'll be a bigger nuisance in this than help.
no subject
She looks back at him, trying to sound reassuring in the face of the lumbering strides of the bald head now poking over the hill. The troll, easily eight feet tall, is moving slowly enough that they can outpace it into the trees a few dozen yards off.
"Got a few surprises for him set up. But, Kinetic magic could do some real work if you're willing to give me a hand."
They burst into the trees, and Claire points out several indentations in the earth to avoid, moving wide of them.
"Avoid those spots, follow me in deeper. The brush will hamper him."

wrap up?
Ye!
White Cliffs
All the same, she had settled into her practice when she heard the sound of a gunshot nearby. Interesting.
And so, she went over to investigate the noise, her own skeletal dragon familiar bounding along beside her. It looked very excited to see the huge dog, and approached to sniff at it.
"Afternoon. I hope I'm not interrupting."
no subject
Claire has her gun half way to her holster by the time Caster's mouth is open, her gun-safety discipline deeply ingrained.
"Not at all. Just getting in a little practice with the enchantment I bought."
She flashes a grin.
"I'm not disturbing you, am I?"
no subject
"No, not at all... although I'm a little surprised I'm not alone in practicing out here." Although most of her face was covered by the hood of her cloak, the pleasant smile she gave in return could still be seen.
"A new enchantment?"
no subject
Claire taps the grip with a finger, turning to show the stranger the weapon.
"One of the locals put an enchantment on my gun. It uses my magic for ammunition now, not physical bullets."

C;
In her arms she holds not her familiar, but her Morpeko, something that showed up with her when she first arrived.
At least she doesn't seem to startle or anything when Claire speaks up, though her expression seems rather stony even as she nods in agreement. ... And Morpeko nods to match, of course.
Look - even a Dark-type would find a forest like this at least kind of creepy.]
It's a little odd if you ask me. These kinds of places normally aren't too scary to me, but this one's almost intimidatin'...
no subject
Her attention shifts back to the forest as Marnie speaks though, and she reaches down to scratch her dog's head.]
Almost? I'd say it is. I've seen creepier places, sure, but there's a vibe here I don't think I like.
no subject
[That's said with her expression scrunching up a bit, turning that look back toward the trees ahead of them.
Not even the Glimwood Tangle gave her the creeps like this, and it was stuffed to the gills with Fairy-types looking to get people lost in the woods forever...
... Actually, it's not too different than the woods they're looking at right now. So what gives?]
There might be somethin' in there puttin' off some sort of magic, don't you think?
Somethin' meant to keep people away.
If it's not that, then... I'm not sure what else it could be.
