January Open Log
🧙 WHO: Claire Redfield & YOU
⚔️️ WHAT: Open Log for January
🕒 WHEN: January!
🗺️ WHERE: All over the island
⚠️ WARNINGS: Possible violence, and Claire's usual warning for talk of zombies, viral outbreaks, and body horror.
A. White Cliffs
Claire had not missed the influx of new people, and she'd taken to helping where she could, namely by gathering up supplies and going to the beach, but that was only a single day's worth of work. She also spent a fair bit of time around the White Cliffs, mainly because it was an out of the way place she could work.
Magic was something new, and she was still working through ways to make it work without backfiring. Plus there was experimenting with combining it with things she was familiar with...like her gun. Which wasn't great for doing around people, so the isolated spot she's in feels right.
Anyone out by the Cliffs will probably hear the repeated barks of gunshots, as well as the bark of an actual canine. Following the sound will lead them to Claire, standing a safe distance from the edge and aiming a gun at a target sitting on a rock. Beside her, sitting within arms reach, is her familiar. The huge black dog's eyes turn to anyone approaching, and...his tongue lolls out in a doggy smile that prompts Claire to turn around.
"...Hey."
B. Bridge Trolls
Never let it be said that Claire wasn't ready to fight, and never let it be said that she wasn't fully prepared to retreat if things got rough. Especially if there was a trap she'd set up. The sharp bark of gunfire and the general sounds of combat are pretty easy to make out, but likely drowned out by heavy footfalls moving up a hill on the Western road to Camelot.
Sprinting full tilt over the hill ahead of the noise comes Claire, her familiar a dark blur at her side. She's breathing heavy, but other than that, unharmed.
"Shit!" she yells when she sees someone atop the hill. "Hey! Run! I've got a couple of trolls following me, and you do not wanna get caught by 'em."
C. Shadlin Showdown
The call to investigate had caught Claire's attention even after the harrowing troll battle, and she wasn't about to miss out on that. She had an explorer's heart, and so that meant ignoring the call was not an option. She and her familiar made the trek fairly quickly, but when they reached the intimidating wall of trees that was the Dusklight Woods, she found herself staring.
The massive forest gave off a dangerous feel, a place that probably shouldn't be intruded upon, and even her familiar seemed a bit intimidated by it. Frowning, hand on her gun, she forced herself to move forward into the shadow of the treeline, but no farther yet. Breathing in, she looked around and spotted another would be explorer.
"Creepy place, huh?"
D. Wildcard
I'm happy to set up closed starters, or do any number of other things. If you have something you want to do with Claire that isn't listed, drop me a starter! Alternatively, hit me up on Plurk at

She doesn't really seem too phased at the prospect. Nor does she really believe he owes her anything.
"You don't have to stick around. But if you want to flex those magic muscles, I've got an idea that might make it quick."
no subject
He does need a few moments to take a few breaths and then nods.
"I'm ready for your next idea. What are we doing?" He doesn't want these things to come chasing after them in the city. Or to hurt the other people who don't have magic.
no subject
Claire gestures to a collection of rotted, broken trees that had clearly fallen a while ago. And some others that were probably a bit more recent, thanks to that nasty storm and all the snow and ice from when they'd first arrived.
"If you can help me get them to the hill, me or my familiar can lure the trolls up, and...you saw how slow they move. Give 'em a shove, we'll get clear before they can, and that should trip them up and give me a good, clean shot to finish them off."
no subject
It's a good plan she has, there's nothing to argue about. He rolls up his sleeves and waves his hand in a huge motion- the same music stave appears dimly through the air and at the second wave, it starts coalescing around the broken branches, tree trunks and whatever else he can get. Giving it a tug he feels he won't be able to move it like this, so he lets go of it.
"Gotta think of something..."
Muse chimes in with a gentle jingle of bells to get his attention and places her open palms up, lifting some of the tree trunks off the ground. Uenoyama nods and does the same- he's carrying some of it, but Muse is doing the bulk of work, as Ue's magic is still on a lower level.
"Lead the way." They'll follow after her with the tree trunks.
no subject
"Thanks guys."
She starts off with the dog leading the way, his nose turned up to sniff for danger. It's not a long trek back to the top of the hill, and she keeps low, peering down at the bridge. Sure enough, there's two trolls down there, looking angrily up it, as if trying to find out where their comrade got off to.
Scooting away from the crest, Claire looks back at her helpers.
"Keep low. We don't want them to point us out and charge."
no subject
He silently follows her lead and gets on all fours and low, crawling so that the trolls can't spot him. Muse had become invisible at this point, silent, placing a hand on both Claire's and Uenoyama's shoulder. Inspiring and encouraging is her job, after all. There's a small, warm feeling that she gifts both of them; Uenoyama probably needs it more than the girl, but knowing someone's there and supporting can't hurt, right?
"Just say the word," and he'll do whatever's needed.
no subject
"Okay boy, go get em."
And just like that, the barghest vaults forward with a howl. His dopey demeanor vanishes as he flickers in and out of solidity, his hellhound nature coming out. Orange-red flames bubble up inside his mouth and he spits a fireball right at the two trolls. Both of them shout in alarm and start to give chase, gesticulating wildly.
"...He'll be okay. Just watch for the signal. He'll get clear in time."
no subject
Uenoyama's eyes go wide and he ducks when the dog rushes down and directly at the trolls. His hand filcks a wall of force wraps around the logs they had pulled up, getting ready to push them down the hill and at the enemy.
He can't lie, his heart is so loud in his ears.
"I'm ready-" and when he gets a signal, he'll use all his magical ability he has left to push the pile down the hill.
no subject
And just like that, the trolls start up too, huge feet shaking the ground as they run.
"Hit it now." she says, rising to her feet and firing a couple of shots at the trolls to further engage them.
no subject
On her sign, Uenoyama gathers as much magic as he can and pushes the logs violently down the hill. They rattle and break and after few moments there is an obvious crash against something and a lot of incoherent groaning and grunting.
"Did we get them!?"
no subject
The logs bash into the trolls, sending them tumbling end over end. And into contact with the sigils. The dark magic whips out of them, shadows forming around the trolls and holding them down, pinned into place.
"Yeah. Let me handle the last of it. You stay here, I need to get lined up for good shots."
And...assuming he doesn't object, she'll go do just that. Two sharp barks of her pistol ring out over the hill, and the trolls are done.
no subject
"Yeah, sure. I won't go anywhere."
And he'll sit down his back slightly turned to the trolls and her; while they might be of the angry sort, the mean sort that would hurt them, he's still not really used to... seeing dead stuff. Or watching dead stuff being killed. She seems more adept at it, so he lets her do it.
Thankfully, there's no one around to call him out on his cowardice, Muse is too nice and worries too much about him to do so.
When he hears that the shooting stops, he'll slowly stand up and join her.
no subject
Thankfully, there's not many shots. Four barks, just to make sure, and then she's heading back up the hill holding two coin-purses taken from the dead trolls. One she jingles, before holding it out.
"They both had a couple of bags of money on them. Here's your share. Thank you."
no subject
He winces at every shot but otherwise doesn't have the visceral reaction he had the first time she shot at that other troll. He blinks in a bit of a surprise when she tosses him the bag with coins and he catches it, a bit clumsily.
"Ah, thanks. And thank you. Those things would've beat me up or worse if I didn't run into you." He looks at the bag, "You sure you don't need this money?"
no subject
And it's an important life lesson, too.
She waves off the offer of the coins, though.
"And nah, I'm good. You helped, you earned it, and I've already kinda got a business in the works so I've got a pretty steady income."
no subject
"Thanks. I appreciate it."
He works at the music store in the city, but any extra coin helps. For a more decent place to live at eventually.
"Should we... head back? Or do you need to do something more with these... things? Trolls? To report to someone?"
no subject
She's definitely not saying it, but she'd cut off a chunk from each of their tusks.
wrap up?
And if he knew, he'd be very thankful for not sharing, it's definitively something he doesn't want to know about.
Ye!
