A. White Cliffs

Claire had not missed the influx of new people, and she'd taken to helping where she could, namely by gathering up supplies and going to the beach, but that was only a single day's worth of work. She also spent a fair bit of time around the White Cliffs, mainly because it was an out of the way place she could work.

Magic was something new, and she was still working through ways to make it work without backfiring. Plus there was experimenting with combining it with things she was familiar with...like her gun. Which wasn't great for doing around people, so the isolated spot she's in feels right.

Anyone out by the Cliffs will probably hear the repeated barks of gunshots, as well as the bark of an actual canine. Following the sound will lead them to Claire, standing a safe distance from the edge and aiming a gun at a target sitting on a rock. Beside her, sitting within arms reach, is her familiar. The huge black dog's eyes turn to anyone approaching, and...his tongue lolls out in a doggy smile that prompts Claire to turn around.

"...Hey."


B. Bridge Trolls


Never let it be said that Claire wasn't ready to fight, and never let it be said that she wasn't fully prepared to retreat if things got rough. Especially if there was a trap she'd set up. The sharp bark of gunfire and the general sounds of combat are pretty easy to make out, but likely drowned out by heavy footfalls moving up a hill on the Western road to Camelot.

Sprinting full tilt over the hill ahead of the noise comes Claire, her familiar a dark blur at her side. She's breathing heavy, but other than that, unharmed.

"Shit!" she yells when she sees someone atop the hill. "Hey! Run! I've got a couple of trolls following me, and you do not wanna get caught by 'em."


C. Shadlin Showdown


The call to investigate had caught Claire's attention even after the harrowing troll battle, and she wasn't about to miss out on that. She had an explorer's heart, and so that meant ignoring the call was not an option. She and her familiar made the trek fairly quickly, but when they reached the intimidating wall of trees that was the Dusklight Woods, she found herself staring.

The massive forest gave off a dangerous feel, a place that probably shouldn't be intruded upon, and even her familiar seemed a bit intimidated by it. Frowning, hand on her gun, she forced herself to move forward into the shadow of the treeline, but no farther yet. Breathing in, she looked around and spotted another would be explorer.

"Creepy place, huh?"



D. Wildcard

That’s when Ken gave her a look. That explains a lot.

“I see, I’m from the future so I was wondering why you were taking about the Super Nintendo! I haven’t that in ages!”

At this point, Ken wondered to himself. Should he allow himself to age his age? After a pause, he mumbled a little. “Right now, we’re playing something called a Wii U or an Xbox where I’m from.”

"I mean...to be fair I don't really play many games at all? My brother had one when we were kids, and the girl staying next door to me at college has a Playstation? But with them is the only time I really played."

She will continue to be old.

"We'd play Mariokart and Mortal Kombat. but I was bad at all of them."

[whatsamada]

"I don't know if there are any video games here but I could show you how to play them sometime!"

He said before leaning back a little. Was this is chance to prove himself to her? "You are missing out a lot on how amazing the graphics are and what the gameplay is like now!"

Or was this a chance to show him that he was still a kid deep down?

[cameprepared]

"If they're here, sure, why not?"

She'll give anything a try once. It's not like she's not cool with game. She's just more of a jock than a nerd.

[whatsamada]

"Then we'll have to go and look around for some when we're done here!"

He didn't mean to sound excited but once he caught himself doing so? He quickly cleared his throat. "Well, after I finish training with my spear of course."

[cameprepared]

"A spear for your coffin-monster things?"

Just checking. Because, well...yeah.

[whatsamada]

"More that I want to use my spear so I don't slack off." He said with a shrug.

"Now that I'm no longer fighting shadows, I don't want to fall behind and let anyone down!"

[cameprepared]

"Well that's good of you."

Really, it's just common sense.

"Show me a few of your moves. Since you got to see me shoot."

[whatsamada]

As he got up, he walked toward an opening where he could swing around his spear. He had to admit, it was a little awkward having someone see him practice but he’ll have to get over it soon.

With his familiar standing in front of him, he started to give Ken a few fake punches to the side. At the same time, he dodged it before spinning his spear to make his familiar stand back.

"Hey, not bad."

She wasn't really much for that kind of fighting, but he seemed pretty quick. That's a start, right?

[whatsamada]

Feeling more confident, Ken started to jump in the air before pointing the tip of his spear downwards. At the same time, Jack Frost was taking a few steps back. Once again, he gave a few light punches before Ken placed his spear sideways and pushed said punches away.

“This is nothing, you should see what else I can do with my persona! I could kill them easily with light!”

"With light?"

That's. Well...

"...Because they're actually made of shadow?"

[whatsamada]

He shook his head.

"Kind of? More that is what Kala-Nemi could do? My teammates could attack the shadows with other abilities such as ice and thunder." He said with a pause. "It's a little complicated to explain but just know that I have powers a lot stronger than what I can do back home."

[cameprepared]

"It's fine. I mean, I'm just assuming it's like the magic here. Elemental, and you had light typed back home?"

It's a fair guess!

[whatsamada]

"It's something like that." He said before giving a small sigh. All this talk about his magic was making him a little homesick. But he'll just keep that to himself for now. Instead, he'll keep on shadow fighting his familiar.

However, with Jack Frost giggling in the background, he was attempting to jump at throw a kick at him. What was Claire going to do now that Ken was caught off guard?

She's just going to let him go. She's not the kind of interfere. Especially not someone with a weapon. That's a recipe for getting stabbed.

"Careful now!"

[whatsamada]

The moment Ken heard her, he immediately blocked his familiar’s attack. With an annoyed sigh, he mumbled to himself.

“That wasn’t fair...” he said before looking back at Claire. “But that’s as much as I can do. I could impress you some more but there isn’t a lot a 13 year old could do without his powers.”

"You're doing just fine already."

Rising, she walks over and squeezes his shoulder.

"I'm probably gonna head back to town. But when you get done here, buzz me. We can get ice cream or something with Sherry, kay?"

Ken simply gave a nod to Claire before giving her a quick smile.

"Don't worry, I will. I don't think I can resist the call of ice cream anyway." He said before chuckling to himself.
