Rei sighs, leaning his weight back on one leg as he takes in the sight of Doppo in front of him.]

No idea what you're talking about, kid.

[Meanwhile Princess, seeing Doppo's back become a platform in that 90 degree bow, LEAPS upon him, chattering into his ear.]

[Doppo was still recovering from blood loss, so of course he stumbled and fell when the phoenix practically leaped on him!! At least Rei's bird seemed to like him...despite the cost to his spine.

Maybe the fish would be useful in thanking her after all. He spoke up to Rei while he was on the ground, not really feeling the energy to get up again.]

....I'm not sure why you like lying about yourself so much. But-I mean, it doesn't matter. I just wanted-I just wanted to say thank you. If there's anything I can do for you in return....

[He still wasn't sure if Rei was a threat or not, but there was clearly more to him than just his villainous taste in clothes. Doppo couldn't ask, though because he was sure the man would just simply close down.]

[Rei clicks his tongue in distaste, then stoops to gather Princess into his arms. (She squawks in protest, but obediently takes up her post on his shoulder as Rei straightens up again.)

His voice hardens.]

[Having someone as delicate as Doppo worry after him feels... pitying.]

[Doppo had been finally picking himself up off the ground-slowly, very slowly because the world was still spinning-but still flinched at the tone in Rei's voice. That was something that would never change, most likely.]

I-I'm fine-I mean, I have Sensei and Hifumi worrying about me, but I don't know...if you have anyone.....

[Suddenly it felt like something he shouldn't be saying. Rei seemed fine, didn't he? But that was still one hell of a traumatic situation to come out to, literally holding Doppo together so he didn't die. And compounded on the fact that he knew Rosho somehow.]

[Rei's eyebrows come down hard as Doppo quails mid-sentence... but he sighs and lets it go.]

[Doppo's right, after all. He has no one: and that's just how Rei needs it to stay.]

[He was almost insulted; Doppo considered himself someone who at least tried to be nice-too nice-and helpful to everyone around him but to people like Rei it was probably always suspicious.]

[Now came the hard part of standing up and that nearly took him out again, trying not to crash straight into the larger man as his blood pressure dropped.]

[Rei, granted the gift of foresight ("eyes"), steadies Doppo easily enough with a strong hand on the man's forearm. Princess chatters angrily as she flaps her wings to keep balance on his shoulder, though whether her scolding is from inconveniencing Rei or is just out of concern for Doppo is anyone's guess.]

Easy, easy. [Rei sighs. He just saved this kid's ass and he's about to squander it by blacking out in the street.] Sit with your head between your knees if it's real bad.

[He was still clinging onto Rei's arm which was suprisingly solid and warm. Maybe it was just because he was so weak right now, but it was reassuring.]

I shouldn't, though....I probably need to get back to Hifumi and Sensei before they worry....
