[ the buzz around Camelot's upcoming masquerade party is hard to ignore, and the prospect of such a large-scale celebration is making Klee more excited with every flyer she sees about it. it's no Windblume Festival, but she wants to know everything about how this strange new world celebrates the coming of spring. that means being an active participant in whatever way possible!
while that definitely means lending a hand wherever people helping to set up the Equinox festivities, her eyes also wander to the city's shops and their newest stock for those who will be in attendance at the masquerade. a cute red dress on a mannequin is what catches her eye first, prompting her to squish her face onto the storefront glass and admire it. ]
Pretty...
[ unfortunately, all she can really do is stare; she's accrued enough money since arriving here for snacks and necessities, but not nearly enough for such a fancy party dress. sure, there's nothing wrong with her everyday adventurer's attire, but going to such an event in them just doesn't feel like it'd be nearly as fun. the people on the flyers looked so extravagantly dressed with their masks - she wants to be a part of that! who says she should be left behind just because she's a kid?
her smile sinks a bit as she realizes that it isn't likely that she'll be able to wear it, but her eyes stay trained on the storefront window. ]
ii. the birds and the bees
[ after half a day of combing bunny cafes, both you and Klee have worked together to secure Sir Fuzzleton and lure him into a cage for delivery to Lady Bledsoe's estate. Klee has insisted on carrying it herself; although somewhat cumbersome because of her size, she's managing for now. that might change the longer she walks with it, but she at least has enough energy to ask questions like any curious child would. ]
I still don't understand why Mr. Bunny ran away... It sure sounds like his owner loves him a lot.
[ she comes from a city that places high value on freedom, so maybe he wanted to see the world. still, wouldn't that make his owner sad if they loved each other like a person and their pet should? it just doesn't make sense, and so she looks up at you for your opinion. ]
Why do you think he wanted to leave?
[ it's probably best not to tell a girl this young the real reason Sir Fuzzleton made his escape. preserve her innocence and think fast! ]
iii. bombs away
[ unfortunately for Klee, her rucksack came with her to this world with a woefully cut stock of supplies for her to make her signature Jumpy Dumpty bombs with. sure, there are plenty of things she could find out in the wild to help her make a new gunpowder formula, but she's not sure if the creatures and by-products that were abundant in Teyvat can even be found here. that means going back to basics for the time being, and that means doing a bit of shopping for base ingredients.
thankfully, this seems to be a one-stop shop - a local alchemical shop has the charcoal, saltpeter and elemental sulfur that can make the most basic of gunpowder. it's a little plain for Klee, but her mom did always tell her that sometimes the simplest solutions were the best if they got the job done. what she didn't account for was how suspicious it might be for a little girl to have those sorts of items in one shopping basket, and the shop clerk is looking at her with reasonable concern when she hands him the basket for checkout. ]
What's it for? [ uh oh. she already looks guilty. ] Um... it's for a project! A school project!
[ yeah, right. even a shopkeep looking to make a sale has to have some reservation about selling a child the active ingredients in making explosives, and Klee isn't a great liar to begin with. panicking, she looks to the nearest adult-looking person in her vicinity that may or may not have been listening in - you, of course. ]
R-Right? [ she smiles weakly and looks up at you, eyes wibbling with potential tears. please help. ]
iv. wildcard
[ if we've discussed something or you have a different prompt in mind, drop it here! i'm over at bounsweet for plotting. ]

Dresscapades
[ Yuzu fortunately ended up getting a job at the Karaoke Bar early in her arrival here... so she's by no means short on funds (especially after a few... convenient instances in her funds increasing quite a bit). In any case, she has her own dress and mask ready... and then she notices Klee.
Looking at a very cute red dress that's just her size, no less. ]
Do you like that dress?
[ Excuse her, coming up from the side so suddenly. ]
no subject
[ jobs that aren't from commissions are far and few between when you're a kid Klee's age - the Knights of Favonius had given her much of what she needed back in Mondstadt, but she's more or less on her own without their authority. she'll take whatever help she can get, especially from new friends!
she turns her head to look at Yuzu, and nods with a small smile. ]
Uh-huh! Red's my favourite colour.
no subject
[ Yuzu thinks that it would look really cute on her... and her big sister instincts are rearing their heads right now, so... ]

Contrary to his always listening nature, he wasn't eavesdropping on whatever was happening at the counter, this time. But he's willing to help her all the same, looking at her and then the shopkeep.]
... Is something the matter, Klee?
no subject
the shopkeep speaks up to answer before she can: "This little girl is trying to buy materials for gunpowder! I don't know what she's trying to pull, but I can't sell this stuff to a kid. She at least needs a parent or guardian with her, but even then I'd be reluctant." Klee doesn't take to this very well, her expression turning to a disappointed pout. ]
Klee isn't pulling anything... This is really, really important! I promise!
no subject
With a sigh from his vents, he opts to lie for her sake. Good thing he's a good liar. He'd asked what her intentions are later...]
I am Klee's guardian and teacher. Forgive me that I asked her to procure the materials herself while I looked through your wares. As she said, it is important that she has those materials for her personal lesson.
[Vague but believable enough without going into anything specific. Hopefully, that's good enough for the shopkeep.]
no subject
though the shopkeeper looks between the two of them with doubt in his eyes, he isn't too difficult of a person to sway. "Alright, fine. But you have to make sure she knows what she's doing with all of that," he relents, opening up the register. "That'll be-" ]
--Klee will pay for it! [ he's interrupted by Klee, who takes her backpack off to rummage through it for a coin purse. ] I saved up my own money!
[ surprisingly, she has enough to cover it - funds procured by both her own quest work and charitable donations given by friends from her world to help her get settled. that said, she's probably going to be in the red from here on out... kids don't know how to budget very well.
but at least the transaction is done, and her purchases are carefully slipped into her rucksack. ] Thank you, Mr. Shopkeeper! Klee will be super careful!
[ she looks up at Soundwave, grinning ear to ear. ]

Well, he was a big brother by heart. Time to do her a favor. ]
Hey. Pretty dress, huh? You think it fits right?
no subject
Mm. [ she nods; the thought of trying it on hasn't even crossed her mind. ] I don't know, but it looks like it would...

Do you want to try it on? It really looks like you do.

ii. the birds and the klees
Blaze had offered to carry the cage, or Klee and the cage both, but Klee had insisted on doing it herself for now. Well, Blaze is ready if she should get tired. ]
Umβ¦
[ Oh gods. Sheβs not ready for this conversation. Sheβs not qualified! ]
He wanted to visit his friends, didnβt he?
[ Nailed it. ]
no subject
she'll probably need help with the cage shortly, but is at least doing a decent job in lugging it around for the time being. walking and talking is definitely going to make that harder... but it's not like she can stay quiet! ]
Ohhhhhh! That makes sense! [ she nods! ] And maybe the owner doesn't have any other bunnies, and he wanted to talk to other ones.
no subject
[ The quest missive had specifically mentioned the rabbit having a wife, but if Klee missed that then Blaze isnβt about to bring it up lest it invite more questions she is in no way prepared to answer. ]
In any case, Sir Fuzzlerton has been away from home far too long. His poor owner must be worried sick.
no subject
Yeah. He needs to get home where he belongs, no matter what!
[ she's starting to fidget and struggle a bit with the cage, but is determined to keep holding it while maintaining their conversation. she's a big kid, and she can handle it!!! ]

H-Huh?
[He looks down at Klee's pleading eyes, having overheard the conversation. He looks down at the basket full of ingredients, and then at her again. He doesn't recognize everything there, but he does know Klee and what she does. It's probably for bombs, right?]
Th-That's right!
[Bennett realized he was going to have to lie here. He was not a good liar. He didn't like to lie, it didn't feel good to do. But for Klee... He'd try.]
My... little sister needs it for a project! [Totally believable, right, Mr. Shopkeep? See, they even have similar hair color! Just ignore Klee's long, pointy ears.] Sh-She's in pretty advanced classes, so she gets to work with all kinds of crazy stuff.
[He was only twisting the truth a little there, he did think Klee was an intelligent little girl, after all. He could only hope it was enough, though. If there was ever a time his bad luck didn't kick in, now would be the time.]
no subject
neither of them are good liars, but surprisingly, she shopkeeper seems to buy the story. they do look somewhat alike, and he'd heard the jingling of coins from Klee's backpack as she was toting the basket of goods around the store. a paying customer is a paying customer, and if he won't get into trouble for it... ]
Uh-huh! What he said!
[ the keeper makes a disgruntled sound, but ultimately sighs it out. "Alright, whatever. But if you kids end up blowing anything up for your weird classes, you'd better say you bought the raw materials from the shop on the other side of town." ]
I will, promise! [ completely disregarding the idea that she should be denying her explosive plans in the first place, she stands up on her tiptoes to slide the coins she'd saved up for this over the counter to pay. ]
no subject
Bennett's pleased to see Klee's purchase has gone off without a hitch, he was pretty worried his bad luck would strike right then and there. Hopefully it takes away until he departs Klee's company, but that's probably some wishful thinking.]
C'mon, sis, we should get to work on your project!
[Wasn't Bennett trying to pick up some items of his own? Now he's choosing to leave them behind and slip out the door instead, he doesn't want to stick around this shop any longer than he has to after this.]

And when she asks her question as innocent as can be Venti merely replies with a whimsical tone,]
Ah! As they say if you love something and you let it go... If it returns it is meant to be.
[Probably not the best analogy in this situation but it's kind of amusing. And he wants to see what a child like Klee would say to such a romanticized notion like that.]
Perhaps in this case Sir Fuzzleton had to make sure he wanted to return.
no subject
what might not be a win-win is when she starts getting tired of carrying this cage, but they'll cross that bridge when they get to it. for now, she just looks at him with a confused expression. ]
...I don't get it. [ analogies are hard when you're seven. ] Are you saying he woulda come back on his own if we didn't find him?

Us giving him some help in the right direction isn't such a bad thing either.

I guess we're both going in our normal clothes to the masquerade, huh?
[ She says that to the girl next to her, looking a little sad about the whole thing. But, hey! At least they look nice right now in their clothes. ]
no subject
Uh-huh. [ she frowns at the window before turning to look at the girl addressing her. ] But the dress you're wearing now is nice, too! It looks easy to move in!
[ she says it with a smile, hoping to cheer her up; it may not be much consolation, but Klee likes it! surely the approval of an elementary schooler will mean something to her. ]
You need to wear a mask for the party, right? I've never gone to one before.
no subject
Do you think so? [ A smile graces her face and she laughs behind her hand. ] I do move a lot, so it helps.
Your dress is nice too. I really like the details.
[ A little bright for her, but it looks lovely on Klee! ]
And yes. It's a masquerade, so we'll need to wear masks. Hopefully, there won't be anything weird going on at the party.
