[Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), the nearest adult-looking person in Klee's vicinity was not much of an adult at all, because it was Bennett. He was at the shop doing some shopping of his own, picking up some basic potions that he could use in a pinch while adventuring. He had healing magic, so he didn't need any healing serums, but there were others with surprisingly useful effects he couldn't help but have on hand.]
H-Huh?
[He looks down at Klee's pleading eyes, having overheard the conversation. He looks down at the basket full of ingredients, and then at her again. He doesn't recognize everything there, but he does know Klee and what she does. It's probably for bombs, right?]
Th-That's right!
[Bennett realized he was going to have to lie here. He was not a good liar. He didn't like to lie, it didn't feel good to do. But for Klee... He'd try.]
My... little sister needs it for a project! [Totally believable, right, Mr. Shopkeep? See, they even have similar hair color! Just ignore Klee's long, pointy ears.] Sh-She's in pretty advanced classes, so she gets to work with all kinds of crazy stuff.
[He was only twisting the truth a little there, he did think Klee was an intelligent little girl, after all. He could only hope it was enough, though. If there was ever a time his bad luck didn't kick in, now would be the time.]
