Shining Karaoke - Opening night

Preparations

A few days before opening night, there's a lot of movement in the karaoke bar. Last decorations are put up, machines are checked and double checked and employees are being shown around to get familiar with the bar. Ren is around almost all of the time, guiding people and making sure everything goes smoothly.

The opening night

Because it's spring time, the karaoke bar has been decorated with cherry blossoms. The inside of the bar looks like a night under the cherry trees in japan: a sakura viewing, one might call it. It's a bit crazy to realize that you're walking in with how the interior looks. But it does become clear that this is the karaoke bar Ren has been talking about when you see the lobby where you can purchase drinks, snacks and rent booths.

Tonight though, all the snacks and drinks are free. There's a variety of colorful alcoholic drinks, not only suited for the sakura theme but also other rather interesting looking ones. Most of them can also be ordered alcohol-free. The snacks are mostly easy finger food, but also some very classy stuff like caviar (or closest to that you can find in Avalon). There is also a variety of soft and tea drinks.

The karaoke machines in various private booths are all available for testing as long as you wait for your turn patiently. There is also a karaoke machine in the main lobby and there is a chance to sing there as well. Though usually when someone sings in the lobby, others join in on the singing too.

Party Games

Various games have been set up! There's spin the bottle, twister and darts. There is also a karaoke game where the person who scored the slowest score has to put on a weird outfit that Ren has borrowed from the the theater.

If there's a game in mind, people are encouraged to set it up and have fun.

March 14th: White Day Celebration

The next day, anyone is invited to visit the karaoke bar again. Everyone is encouraged to pick chocolates they like from the selection on the tables and box them in a white box with a light pink ribbon. That box is later given to someone they like with well wishes. You can only make one box, so choose carefully who to give it to.

Of course nothing says you have to give it to someone. You could just eat them yourself.

Oh no no no, I really don't want to subject anyone to that. My M'Ma threatened to arrest me for noise disturbances if I sing in the shower.

[ He is...only slightly exaggerating. ]

[Okay, she can't help but snort at that, amused but VERY much in disbelief.]

Oh, right...M'Ma's one of the best police officers back home. The Cabrera family comes from a long line of protectors.

[Nod nod.]

Ah, that makes sense. .... Still, she said she'd arrest you?

[How bad IS your voice, pato?]

[ Not great. ]

Well...she may not have been serious.

[ He's only questioning that now? ]

[Another laugh.]

Well I hope so. Your mom sounds really cool.

[And she means it, even as she starts feeling a bit nostalgic for her own former parents.]

[ His expression brightens as he nods. ] She is! She can be a bit critical of me at times, but I know it's because she cares and worries about me. And she's strong and fearless and so inspiring.

[ He loves his M'Ma, okay? ]

Awww, that's so sweet~!

[And she means it, it's adorable how much the two care about each other.]

[ He rubs the back of his neck, a little embarrassed. Still he smiles and nods. ]

She was also really understanding [ "understanding" ] and letting me live at home with her while I was working as an intern.

[ At least now with the money he earns as Gizmoduck, he can help with bills and things. ]

[Another soft nod.]

I've been living on my own for a few years now, and don't know if you've met Usagi yet, but she and the rest of our friends back home are my family. It's really nice your mom lets you stay with her.

[And she genuinely means that without any bitterness, but uh... she's about Lena's age, maybe every so slightly older.]

[ He hesitates a little; he still doesn't quite know how to judge human ages by their appearances, but he'd somehow gotten the impression that she was pretty young. He knows better than to ask women about their ages, though, and there's something about her words that suggests this is a sensitive topic, so he would have to be careful about how he proceeds. ]

...Yeah, it is. I imagine she gets frustrated at times, but...it had just been the two of us, for quite a while.

[ Since working at McDuck Enterprises, his world was ever expanding. But he can't ever forget when he'd been younger, when it was just him and M'Ma. ]

[Another nod. She can hear complicated things in that sentence too. Enough that she won't pry for now, but maybe they can trade stories someday.]

Anyway... if you're not gonna sing, can I at least get you something to eat or drink?

O-Oh um...right! [ Yeah, he definitely doesn't mind the topic change. ] I'm not even actually sure what they're serving.

In that case, it's a good thing you've got someone who knows the menu here, huh?

[Perks of being a cook and part-time waitress, as well as one of the people involved with designing the menu she slips over to the duck.]

Need a cocktail menu too?

[ He laughs a little, accepting the menu. ] That does help, thank you!

Are those non-alcoholic cocktails? Or do they make mocktails here?

[ He tends to not really drink. ]

Yeah, we totally do mocktails! What are you in the mood for?

Let's see...nothing too sweet...perhaps something with citrus?

Hm, yeah! Lemme go ask Diluc real quick, be right back!

[After a few short minutes, Makoto returns with a short, salt-rimmed glass filled with a fizzy pink drink, garnished with a round slice of grapefruit and a sprig of rosemary.]

Here you go! Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, rosemary simple syrup, a little squeeze of lime, and sparkling mineral water. What do you think?

[ He takes the glass from her, looking at the drink curiously. ]

Thanks. Let's see... [ He takes a testing sip, focusing on the taste. ] Oh wow! That's actually quite refreshing.

Yay, I'm glad you like it! Diluc's a really good bartender, isn't he?

[Never mind the very faint blush on her cheeks, she's at like crush livel 1 at the moment.]

He certainly is! You'll have to pass on my compliments!

[ Taking another sip, he glances up at her, tilting his head curiously. ]

Are...you okay? You've gotten a bit red.

[ Was it warm in here? He felt pretty comfortable. ]

Wha-me? Oh yeah, yeah, I'm fine! Just running a little warm, from running around.

[Really, she's fine, she just has a chronic case of "useless heterosexual"-itis, nothing serious.]

[ Well, that makes perfect sense to him. ]

Oh, okay. Maybe you should take a water break.

[ Fenton is very smart...but also can be kind of clueless. ]
