i. Sir Fuzzlerton the Cad
[Well, this is quite the hilarious quest, actually. Ochako actually was giggling about it as she read the description on her phone's app, but decided to try it anyway. It seems harmless and simple enough, even if it is a bit time consuming... Still, what else has she got to do today? Nothing, really...so why not help out? Besides, she really could use the reward money, and it's almost like being given meager tasks as a Hero to do on the daily!! She's starting to get used to doing things like this, really, and it keeps Ochako busy.
So, as she preps herself to be out for the day looking for Sir Fuzzlerton, Ochako stares hard at the picture that his owner put of him on the quest descriptions, and tries to memorize it. Maybe she should contact one of her friends, too? Mm...this doesn't seem like anything at least one of them would partake in, and to be fair, they're probably doing it or the other quests posted as well. Maybe she'll run into them? Shoving a few bottles of water into her pack, and a bento box of greens (listen, it's decent bait for a waskly wabbit) soon after, she shoulders her bag and heads out to the first of many new bunny cafes that opened up, heading to the staff first to ask questions and if they've noticed an, um...f-frisky rabbit hopping about.]
He looks like this, and belongs to someone looking to get him back... Would it be alright if I looked around a little bit? I promise I won't bother any of the other rabbits, or customers, while I'm here!!
ii. Run Snagglefoot Run
[Now this is more the kind of quest Ochako is used to. She's not against doing the simpler, more mundane ones, but the adrenaline rush she feels when stopping an actual thief is few and far between. It actually makes her feel somewhat like she's back in Musutafu, fighting crime and stopping villains alongside her senpai, Nejire, and the Dragoon Hero, Ryukyu. Still...this particular thief is a tricky one to get a grip on, and Ochako is definitely getting frustrated. Man, it'd be pretty simple if she had her quirk, or her hero gear, but alas...nothing of the sort. What she does have, however, is a large and very fast running dire wolf familiar, who shows up at last when Ochako calls for her.]
Aludra, I need you!! [The white wolf seems to blinks into existence rather suddenly, its glittering coat like starlight as it curiously peers at its partner, then folds its ears back as it takes in her appearance. Ochako is winded, having been chasing Snagglefoot for several miles and always just missing him. Damnit...he's probably got his greedy little mitts on so many other stolen goods, too!] Please, this time it's important - there's a criminal about and I can't catch him on foot. I-I know...hah...you don't like me riding you, b-but...I really...r-really need your help!
[The wolf is fast, Ochako has seen it before - when Aludra runs she looks like the tail of a shooting star. It was part of how the brunette figures out the wolf's name was that of a star. The star making up the 'tail' in the constellation Canis Major...the greater dog. It's actually rather hysterical, that the dire wolf is so connected to space like that. Sort of like Ochako is, heh. They really were meant for each other. Hopefully, that'll mean the large beast will let the girl ride her...which she has not let happen since arriving in Avalon.]
Please. You know I wouldn't ask otherwise... And it'd be just this once, until we catch him. O-Or if you can somehow make me faster, I-- [Her phone buzzes. It's an alert. The thief is headed for the Red Spring. Shit, she's running out of time!]
iii. Farmers-R-Us
[Ochako never really done this sort of work before - there's not a lot of farmland where she lives, not unless you really go towards the more rural towns and villages, away from the major cities in Japan. She's of course been to farms before, obviously, but never really done work there. Still, it's honest work, and after some pointers from the farmhands, it's easy enough. Laborious, definitely, but Ochako's not against working up a good sweat!! It's a bit like early morning training, and a damn good work out to boot. She'll be doing this for a good, long while...
Hence why she's sort of wearing a lot of her usual workout gear as she goes about, turning soil removing roots and rocks, and hauling feed to the animals. She's pretty dusty towards the middle of the afternoon, sighing a bit as she heads back into the field from her break to take a drink and just rest a while. Breaks are important, after all!! No need to be overheating, or overworking, to the point of real fatigue! As she picks up her hoe to get back to work, she notices one of the farmer's dogs poking at something a fair bit away in the brush. Uh, oh...that better not be a rabbit den. Ol' Fido's gonna get is big trouble if he decided to attack any bunnies this month...]
Hey, hey, none of that!! Don't you do anything naughty over there, you! [Spooked by getting caught (and the prospect of getting punished), the dog races away, and Ochako is hurrying over quickly toward what it left. Sadly for her, though, Ochako has the marvelous misfortune to be right in the middle of a nest of pixies as they emerge and make the assumption that their home was disturbed and destroyed by the girl. Oh boy. Zipping about, clawing and biting at her arms and face, pulling at her hair, Ochako squeaks with horror and tries to swat them away, racing to try and take shelter...anywhere, really.]
AAAHH, G-GO AWAY!! I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!! I WAS JUST TRYING TO HELP KEEP THE DOG AWAY!!! EYAAH! OW, OW, STOP BITING!!
iv. Wildcard!!
[None of these prompts suit your fancy? Or want to do something specific and not quest-oriented? Reach out to me via PM or atMelonFlavored to plot something out together!]
iii
She rushes over, fingers reaching back to her holster (yes, she brings her gunblade everywhere), and when she spots the girl swatting and running from what appear to be pixiesâfor fuck's sake. First the fairies, now these...]
Get lost.
[Sighing, Lightning whips out her gun and pulls the trigger once, then again for good measure. Two loud bangs echo across the farm and, just as she'd hoped, it's enough to frighten the pixies into scattering.
Don't worry, she's ... pretty sure ... she didn't shoot any of them.]
You okay?
no subject
[WELL THAT SURE WORKS.
Not a single one of the pixies remain after the two shots are fired, flitting away as fast as their tiny wings can carry them. They may have their magic, sure, but guns have nasty metal bullets, and aren't all that easy to fight against. Ochako, too, seems to hit the fucking dirt when she hears a goddamn gun being fired a little too close for comfort. She covers her head and just...waits. Ochako's pretty sure this woman's not going to shoot at her, but...woof, she's not used to guns being used very much without heavy regulation. Snipe-sensei and the police are the only ones who really use firearms like that... (though canons are a-okay for some reason, we don't get it either!!).
Rolling over onto her back once its quiet, and once the woman heads over, Ochako sits up and nods her head.]
Y-Yeah...ah...fine. I'm fine. Th-Thank you, miss. [Fine, but she sure does have a ton of tiny bites and scratches all over her, and Ochako's hair is a mess, with loose strands hanging from where they were pulled out as well. Ouch...] I-I don't even know what those things were, but they were terrible!! I didn't do anything - just tried to keep the dog away! Stupid, nasty, awful, bitey bugpeople...
no subject
[For now...?
It at least gives Lightning a moment to slide her weapon away and kneel in front of Ochako, blue eyes scanning her face to check for deep cuts and scratches. It could be worse, she supposes, but better to be safe than sorry, so she offers a hand to help her up.]
Sorry I startled you. Figured they wouldn't respond to me either.
[If Ochako swinging her arms around and screaming at them didn't work, Lightning doing the same certainly wouldn't... If they're anything like the fairies she's encountered, then she can only assume they're just as stubborn.]
You hurt?
no subject
Taking the offered hand a moment later, Ochako stands, then begins to dust herself off, pulling bits of grass and hay from her hair. Ugh, what a mess...she really is going to need that soak after all - if not to get healed up, but to just rinse off the ick.]
Mmh...i-it's fine. I think you're right, they didn't seem to want to listen to anything. But I'm fine, really, just sore...a-and a bit itchy.
no subject
[Lightning's concerns are interrupted by something far more worrisome. The dog that Ochako had chased away earlier is back again, but this time, he has no interest in the bushes or the crops. He's going between barking and growling while hopping on his hind legs.
From where she's standing, it looks like he's barking at them.]
Know what to do with a rabid dog?
[That shit's annoying!
However, unbeknownst to Lightning, there's a small cloud of something forming near the edges of the farm, just beyond the gate that's caught the pup's attention...]
no subject
Eh, I d-don't think it's--
['That bad', is what Ochako wanted to say, but she's distracted by the barking dog again. The real culprit of the mess made to the pixie nest earlier. She's not approaching it this time - sorry pooch, but you're on your own if you get into mischief now - though Ochako follows its line of sight and squints, covering her eyes from the sun to try and get a better look at what it's hollering about.]
Mmh...what is that? Out there, in the pasture... [Ochako removes her hand, to point at the forming cloud. Do dust storms occur in this world? I mean, it'd make sense - farms tend to get dusty when the soil is moved and a gust picks up, but this is well away from the actual farmlands where crops are grown, so. Hrm. Something inside of the young girl says they should...not be here.] Ah...um. M-Maybe we should...go inside...?
no subject
Bigger, and bigger...]
It's getting closer.
[There's a buzzing that gets louder, and that's when the realization finally sinks in.]
Shit. Yeah, get inside.
[She grabs Ochako by the wrist and pulls the girl in the opposite direction towards the nearest shelterâa tool shed at the other end of the field. The cloud isn't dust at all, but angry pixies coming back for revenge, and they've brought their friends...]
no subject
Oh lawd, they coming.
And they coming fast.
Once they get close enough, Ochako pulls free from Lightning to yank open the shed door and practically shove lightning inside it. It's a bit unceremonious, but the girl is working on hero instinct right now - putting others first and making sure their safety is top priority. It's like a switch flipped in her head all of a sudden, because as she's pulling the shed door closed, she shouts out amidst the ever growin sound of loud buzzing--]
Make sure all the windows are closed, and there's no spaces they can crawl in through!! [And if there is, to try and block it with something heavy. Iron would be ideal, but that's not exactly something readily found on a farmstead...]
no subject
And from outside, she can hear the loud buzzing when they circle the shed, like a horde of angry wasps.
Gun in hand again, Lightning moves back to Ochako to stand over her.]
You got any magic that can repel them?
[Of all the times being a l'Cie would be helpful, she isn't when it is...]
no subject
I...might. [Ochako chews her lip a little, and her eyes squeeze shut in frustration. Of all times, it had to be now.] My magic is elemental, but I barely have a grasp on it - it's extremely volatile each time I've used it, and it leaves me nearly incapacitated, too. A gust of wind could turn into a tornado, or something completely different...or not work at all.
[She could try, but she's...afraid. Afraid that something bad could happen, and someone could get hurt. She doesn't actually want to hurt the pixies, either, just get them to go away.]
no subject
The magic here sucks.
[How encouraging... but it's true. Lightning hasn't mastered hers either, and has a long way to go before she does, but... this girl shouldn't be left to feel helpless because of it. Deep down, Lightning is afraid of her magic, too. It's new, and she was never one to like change.]
Neither of us have much of a choice. We could run out there and get eaten alive or we could give it a shot.
[There's another bang on the window.]
A couple small bursts should be enough to scare them away. Give us some time to find proper shelter. [And find the people responsible for dealing with this shit!!!] If we both do it, at the same time...
no subject
[It's supposed to be a quiet little grumble, but in this space, it sort of...isn't hard to miss. Ochako really, really dislikes her magic - or at least the fact that it's so difficult to use. Elemental is, in her opinion, a strong magic type, and extremely versatile, but the fact that it's also so volatile and difficult to master for her, well...it's certainly resulted in Ochako's confidence being shaken to its core a few times already.
A few small bursts...ugh. Easy for Lightning to say. Usually Ochako's magic manifests in an "all or nothing" sort of way. Each time she's used it, it's always been at full strength or not at all. She's hesitant, but...what choice do they have? That banging indicates the pixies aren't going to let up anytime soon.]
Mmh, I...I-I'll do my best. [It's all she can do, really.]
no subject
At any rate...]
I'm right here.
[If it's any consolation. She's just a stranger who happened to find herself in the same predicament as herâstuck in a tool shed with a bunch of rabid pixies waiting outside to do whatever it is pixies do to people who've pissed them off. Eat them? Whatever.
She makes a noise in the back of her throat.]
Mm. You want me to go first?
no subject
With a small smile, Ochako nods her head and mutters a quiet "thank you" before taking a deep breath to steel herself. She's faced down worse, she tells herself - time and time again, she's danced with death on the job, against the League, and will continue to do so well after she graduates UA. If she hesitates, if she doesn't get back up again, if she doesn't spit in the eye of the Grim Reaper, what sort of hero is she? Besides, now that she has someone here to try and guard, to protect, that's something else entirely.]
I--...if you think you can draw their attention, it may be best to split that big cluster into smaller bunches. Easier to deal with, too...since my magic likes to go wild sometimes. I don't want to hurt you, or damage the fields... But I think I can try something that might make it hard for them to follow us, I just don't know how well it will work.
no subject
You won't hurt me.
[She's dealt with much worse than a magical blow to the face, but she knows that fear well. Maybe not to the same extent, with her magic being completely harmless, but it's still something she struggles with on the daily... Not something she should be struggling with right now, though.]
A distraction it is.
[There's a bang on the window again, and that prompts Lightning to get moving, and by moving, that means opening the front door far enough that she can slide through it.]
Come and get 'em.
[Just as she suspected, it's her that the pixies are after, and they loom over her like a large, buzzing cloud. A barrier spell goes upâalthough it isn't much of oneâand it manages to block their tiny claws and teeth enough that she can start moving the group by the door away from the shed. She's quick on her feet, and zig-zags through the field, putting her and the pixies far enough that Ochako should be able to sneak out without the other pixies noticing.]
no subject
Right.
[And as Lightning moves, so too does Ochako. The distraction works perfectly, and a big cluster of the fairies follow Lightning away from the shed and try to attack her with tooth and nail. Thank goodness she apparently has Light magic as well - something Ochako recognizes from the barriers she creates, considering Bakugou has the same type - because it keeps the brunette from worrying too much about her getting hurt...those weird little bug-like creatures tend to aim for the face and eyes, like the jerks they are.
But, as Ochako dashes out and off to the side of the shed, a smaller cluster of the pixies does spot her after a moment and makes its way toward her. Time to put that plan into action!! Whistling, with her fingers in her mouth, Ochako calls for her familiar and raises her hand up to the sky. Please work...please work. I need this to work!
From a distance, the white dire wolf races onto the scene, called by its partner. As it nears her, Ochako's familiar leaps up into the air and its body seems to become like a wisp of smoke or....vapor. Water vapor, to be exact. The clouds begin to roll and churn, growing dark and grey, as a rumble of thunder bellows overhead and the sky opens up...letting loose a deluge of rain over the fields. The droplets come down hard and fast, and the pixies shriek with alarm, darting away in every direction trying to keep dry. The more stubborn of them still attempt to attack, but as they get hammered by the rains, even they seem to give up and flee to any available hiding spot to dry out their wings and not get swept away in the rainthat Ochako summoned.]
I-It worked!! It actually worked! I-I did it!! [She's wet and dripping like a soggy cat, but her magic actually wor--...oh lord.] Hrrmp!!
[Yup, the side effects still are a thing. Ochako feels her stomach lurch, and she smacks her hands over her mouth swiftly, eyes wide. Fucking hell, why this--
Look away, Lightning, because poor Ochako is going to double over a minute later and retch. Her life truly will never avoid this sad, nasty side-effect of both her quirk and her magic alike. It's just puke everywhere, always. She cannot escape it.]
no subject
So she's running up to Ochako whenâ
Oh god.
Her run slows to a jog, and then to a walk as she approaches, nose wrinkling when she sees her keeled over, throwing up what looks like everything she's eaten in the last day. Is this... Is this normal? Is this what happens when people use their magic to its fullest extent here? Because if so, she thinks she's going to stay as far away from doing it as possible...
It doesn't deter her completely though, and when she reaches the girl, she places a hand on her back and just... gently and awkwardly pats it until she's done...]
That was something.
[It's a terrible attempt to make conversation while this is happening, and Lightning makes a face at herself for trying.]
no subject
Comment. I-It was an...attempt. GG, Lightning, you tried.
Coughing, and wiping her mouth a bit (gross...), Ochako holds her stomach and steps away from where she was sick, but not closer to the woman just yet. She doesn't trust herself to not start again, though Ochako's sure there's nothing left in her stomach now to force out. It's just be dry heaving, but still...not something someone wants to be around for.]
So...S-Sorry you had to...see that. Ugh... [Ugh, her throat burns, and Ochako can taste the sourness of her own bile. Water would be awesome, and she actually has a bit of foresight to catch some of that rainwater in her mouth as it still pours, just to rinse out the ick, and spitting it out off to the side after.] Th-This sometimes happens when I use my magic...I-I guess I can't escape this side effect in any world...
Are y-you okay?
no subject
Should be asking you that. [And although she would, the girl hardly looks okay, so she didn't... At least she's able to stand upright, so that's a start in the right direction.] Those pixies have got nothing on me.
[There are a few scratches here and there, and her jacket is torn up and frayed on the sleeves and collar, but it isn't anything she can't handle. She's suffered through worse than some angry pixies!]
Wasn't expecting you to do all that. Pretty good thinking on your feet.
no subject
She sways a little on her feet, pumping her fist weakly and giving a tiny thumbs up with a hoarse chuckle.]
Ehehe...I didn't know if it would or not. [She takes in a few big gulps of air, slowly, in and out. It helps, a little bit.] I didn't...w-want to actually hurt them, s-so. Um....I-I thought that'd be the best way to get them to leave. Th-Thank you, a-and I'm sorry I got you mixed up in that big mess.
i think this is a good place to wrap đ
Better that they got caught up in this mess together than alone. She's not sure how she would've handled that if it weren't for Ochako. Her magic is too finicky that Lightning can hardly trust it to do anything useful, and for all she knows, that shit could've just backfired on her instead!]
Let's go inside. Get you some more water. Could use a little myself, too.
