[Snagglefoot Miffen is the name of the thief that has snatched up some precious gems from a local jewelry shop in Camelot. And if there is one thing that Izuku can’t tolerate as a student studying to be a hero? It’s crime, of course! When he had seen the task, he had signed up right away. Being away from his homeworld and his school hasn’t taken anything away from Izuku’s determination to be a hero and to help out whenever he can.

But this thief is chalking it up to be quite the challenge. A slippery fellow that once Izuku gets a single lead is off before Izuku can reach the next one. He’s been tracking the man through the streets as fast as he can, but the thief seems to be one step ahead of him so far. The next lead means he’ll be heading to the Red Springs Inn next. That means Izuku has to get there before he does.]

Alright, I’m not letting him get ahead of me this time. Even if I’m here... I still have to be. Plus Ultra!

[There is a flicker of magic as Izuku places his hands on a nearby tree. A flash and a bang later and the tree transmutes and grows into a twisted-looking wooden ladder with footholds and all. Izuku is then climbing up the ladder onto the roof of the nearby building and is then running and leaping from roof to roof. Better for the bird’s eye view and to get to the Red Spring Inn faster! Occasionally, only stopping to transmute more branches and tall hanging trees into planks to use as a jumping point to the next roof or ledge!

[b: quest: farmers-r-us]

[Farming is still helping and Izuku is just glad that he can lend a hand. Alchemy magic also seems to be a good thing to have in this regard. He’s working with the local farmers with helping the new crops sprout. He’s slow at the work at first but he’s getting better at it bit by bit. And when he’s not helping with the crops himself he is also a healthy strong boy so moving supplies and hauling tools or crops is right up his alley too. The hard work feels nice!

What he doesn’t notice right away while he’s working is the small next of pixies that have seemed to have nested in a corner of the field he’s working in. One moment he is kneeling down to plant and work on some seedlings when his foot catches a part of the nest buried in the brush.]

Eh-??! [Whoosh!!

In an instant, the nest of pixies erupts like a swarm of bees flying around him in a pink and glittery haze! His hair flies up and sticks there as he blinks rapidly at the swarm whooshing all around him! He flails!]

Ah-!! Ack- AHHHHiiii!!

[How does he get the swarm of ~~bees~~ pixies to stop?! They’re starting to chant some sort of magic or charm and the air is starting to spark!]

[c: 🥦 broadsword shopping]

[Being in a fantasy world like this and without his usual quirk Izuku has realized he needs a way to keep up with combat and battle without being able to use his usual superpowers. Alchemy isn’t always a combat type of magic (or at least he hasn’t quite honed a way to use it in a combative way just yet) so he thinks with a weapon that it would be a good way to supplement his skills.

And who doesn’t want a big as heck sword to go with this entire fantasy world vibe?? Like right out of a JRPG!?

Izuku is browsing a local blacksmith and weapons store. Looking at a row of the broadswords that might fit his style and his grip. He’s never bought a sword before so he is a little out of his league right now but looking at the weapons is just … so freaking cool.]

Uaa... These swords are amazing! I can’t believe I’m really here and I can get one…!

[d: 🥦 alchemy studying]

[Izuku is still very new to alchemy but he is getting the hang of transmuting organic matter. Wood, plants and the like came to him easily enough. But with his classmates learning their own magic he does want to try and see if he can study enough to help them as well. With Katsuki and Tsuyu both using light magic, he has figured that the faster he learns how to change and manipulate glass, metal and precious stones? The better.

And that is where Izuku is right now. He’s sitting on a bench outside as he tinkers with a handful of copper pieces and a container full of sand. He’s currently trying to transmute the copper pieces into different shapes and later trying to change the sand into proper glass lenses.

Holding the piece of copper in his hand Izuku suddenly winces as his magic flashes and burns his skin. He drops the copper piece with a clatter! This is going to take some practice...]

If I can get copper and sand to work right... I can start making magnifying lenses...

[Izuku is starting to mutter to himself!]

[Izuku feels very grateful to have run into someone willing to give him a chance. He wants to do his best and really learn how to use a sword properly. So he does pick out an iron broadsword with some heft to it. But in his grip he seems to be able to handle it well. Swinging it in combat is a whole other topic though, he knows that.]

Some of my classmates are here, so it probably was. [He knows Momo has been using the network!] And my strength levels... I was still learning how to use it to its full capacity so I don't really know. There was a time where I almost reached one hundred percent but it took a lot out of me.

[He won't really be able to know any of that for sure until he returns home... Izuku laughs sheepishly.]

But- I don't think I'll be able to work on that here. I'll have to rely on my own strength this time. Just me and my own body. I want to be able to use this sword properly!

[He wonders is this boy was one of the ones from further in the future who is keeping secrets?

But it's really not his business to pry so he doesn't.]

There are other things to work on that I'm certain will translate into skills that can be useful when you return.

[Like swordplay.]

All skills are useful in the right circumstance. It never hurts to pick up more.

[He absolutely is one of them that is from the future. He hadn't wanted to hurt his classmates somehow by knowing things from the future as well. Can't be too sure how any of that works! So he's kept quiet about it!]

I think you're right...! I can't wait to learn more. Learning magic on top of this too, it's just... amazing!

[He smiles and with his sword selected he motions towards the door that will go out to the training yard out back.]

I think we can try some sparing out there? If you want?

Having a thirst for knowledge is a good thing.

[He's smiling when he says it. He didn't have quite that enthusiasm but he did enjoy learning things as well.

He nodded.]

Of course. It's important to try a weapon before spending money.

[Even for someone who wasn't a beginner. He walks towards the door.]

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

[Izuku is a bit hyped up for this. A sparkle in his eye as they make their way out back. The sword in his hand feels great and he's feeling great about this even if his cheeks are burning with a little bit of nerdy excitement and embarrassment.]

Thanks- Ah- I'm sixteen, I'm in high school.

[Not that it's really relevant that he's in high school here!]

I wonder if it's common for someone my age to want to learn how to use a weapon like this?

I don't think it's uncommon. Some start even earlier than that. [His smile is gentle even as he draws his sword.] Some of them simply come from warrior families and others dream of maybe joining the army to find glory and adventure.

[When the sword is fully out of its sheath, he stood with it at his side.]

Shall we start?

Yeah, It's my grade in school- Ah, maybe high school isn't a type of schooling in some worlds.

[Or time periods??]

It just means I've got a lot of catching up to do.

[But Izuku looks ready and determined as ever. Holding the broadsword with two hands he takes a loose stance to help him maintain speed. He's going to have to figure out his balance. His grip might be a little weak since more of his strength is building in his legs these days but he really wants to learn this way!]

I'm ready!

Such distinctions didn't exist in Great Liang.

[Perhaps they can discuss it further later.

This child...he feel like Shen Yi, back when he was pretending to be a teacher in Yanhui would have enjoyed having a student like this.

His expression doesn't veer from the gentle calm it's adopted this whole time...not even when his grip on his sword shifts and he goes in for an attack.

He wasn't aiming to seriously injure anyone but neither does he hesitate or go easy on his partner. There's strength and weight behind that strike and he's interested to see how Midoriya would respond.]

[He would be interested in hearing more, sometime! Izuku finds him to be really calming to talk to as well. Almost like he really is talking to one of his teachers back home. Maybe that's why it's so easy to fall into training and sparring like this.

Izuku goes off of instinct alone, using the heavy blade in his hand to parry the strike that he's given. There is a clang of metal as Izuku successfully parries the strike but there is something a little slow to his power. It might be the weight of the sword or perhaps it might seem like Izuku's grip itself is a little weak?]

Ah-!

[But he tries again, this time aiming a strike back himself. Again- a little slow! But the power behind it is there.]

[The technique is a little clumsy, as expected from someone who hasn't held a sword before, but his instincts are good. That is something that is harder to train so Chang Geng felt this wasn't a bad start at all.

He could disarm the boy but this was to see what he could do and so he moves to block the sword instead.]

Keep a good grip on your weapon.

[Is all the warning he gives before He moves forward with a series of strikes, each one harder than the other trying to see how long it took to knock the weapon out of Midoriya's hands and what he'd do when pressed by an advancing opponent.]

[It's fast! Izuku keeps his nerves about him, trying to deflect each attack and slash with a parry of his own. But a large broadsword is hard to keep a block up with. As his heel presses into the ground when he backs up Izuku tries to push into the attacks instead. Trying to slash back instead of blocking all the hits.]

Ha-!

[But the last one seems to be too much on Izuku's balance for the moment. He stumbles and the weapon clatters from his hand. He winces slightly and looks down at his hand which is scarred from previous battles. But Izuku has a smile on his lips, one that is a bit proud to be learning even if it comes with knicks and scratches.]

Almost...! I almost had every slash parried!

[He doesn't laugh because that's rude but his smile does widen a fraction.]

You did well.

[But then he's reaching out to take Midoriya's hand. That's a lot of scars but he's more concerned about any new injuries, after all, old injuries can build up, making new injuries more likely.]

Are you hurt?

[Izuku feels like this has to be a good start. He's used to starting at the very bottom and working his way upwards so hard work isn't new to him. Sometimes that means a few bumps and bruises every once in a while.

He smiles sheepishly as he's checked over, a tiny redness on his face in embarrassment.]

N-no, I think I'm fine. A friend told me that my grip might be weaker these days but I'm trying to work on that too.

[He does stretch his fingers. No cuts or anything. Just new grip on a new heavy weapon! He can do this!]

[This child.

He'll make a note to ask the healer he's been working with about working with old injuries.]

If it hurts let me know. We don't want to aggravate any previous injuries. [And with that he lets go.]

How did you feel about that sword?

[Good gosh yes please, help him.]

I .. Right. Thank you...

[He frets lightly.]

But I really liked this sword, it felt good to hold. As long as I can get the strength back up in my hand, I think I can get this one.

[Perhaps they could try acupuncture too...

He files that idea away as something for later.]

If you like it then you should get it. [Then he reached out to move Midoriya's hands back onto the blade handle.] You don't need to grip hard with all of your fingers. Some of them will be for support the others will be to help with aiming. And especially if you lack strength in your hand, try to deflect or dodge rather than outright blocking.

[Izuku looks down and holds to the blade handle more gently this time. Observing his hands. He takes the note to heart because if he can balance his hands then it should be okay. These days Izuku's legs are stronger than his arms so that's where most of his power is but this will be okay.]

Okay. I think I can work on that while getting stronger with my hands. Dodging and parrying...

[He looks up with a thankful smile, cheeks a bit pink.]

Thank you for helping me today, this is really new to me so... I appreciate it.

For your hands...if the weakness is because of previous injuries have you considered trying acupuncture?

[He returned that smile with one of his own.]

I wanted to do it.

Acupuncture? No, I haven't thought about trying that for my hand before.

[He's never really considered it! He stretches his hand open.]

Do you think it would help with something like old injuries?

Within the human body, in addition to blood there's a flow of energy.

[He reaches out and traces some of those pathways on Midoriya's open palm ~~which I am not looking up right now~~.] Injuries can disrupt those pathways, causing stiffness or weakness and repeated injuries can cause permanent damgae. Acupuncture can help right those damages or at least ease them. Combined with healing magic perhaps something can be done.

[Then he drops his hand back to his side as he sheathes his sword.]

Miss Chen would know more about it but she isn't here, unfortunately.

[Izuku looks down as his palm is inspected. He can imagine the veins flowing with blood and the way his muscles might be blocked up from the damage he's had in his hands. Healing quirks can only do so much and constant change and regrowth of muscles is always an ongoing thing. Maybe there is something good about this acupuncture idea...]

Maybe I can find someone who knows how to use acupuncture here. My hand isn't that bad on most days but I can tell my grip is weaker. I never thought about the flow of my blood and energy before. Only just basic physiotherapy and things like that. But do the needles hurt...?

[He gathers himself and his new sword he's going to purchase. He has to give a polite bow in thanks.]

It's best not to put it off if there is an expert available. It's better to address these problems as soon as possible.

[He heard the question and he smiles, just a little amused.

He pulled out a small leather pouch and from inside it, he fished out a small book of needles so thin they almost looked like strands of hair if not for the way they glint in the light.]

The needles are thin and the places they are inserted are very precise. They may feel uncomfortable but it shouldn't hurt.

[Because hi, he is in fact someone who knows acupuncture. Then he folded the needles away again.]

You really don't have to thank me so much. I enjoyed doing this. [Pause.] And if you aren't able to find an expert I can volunteer my skills, though I don't specialize in dealing with old injuries.

Ah- Ahhh, oh-! I- I see.

[Those needles! Izuku looks a little curious but it reassures him in the slightest. Truth be told Izuku's pain tolerance is kind of stupidly high so even if he mutters a few misplaced worries he probably won't feel anything much anyways!

He frets and then nods quickly.]

I'll try my best to find someone who can take a look, then! If I can't, I'll ask you again.

[A curious mind was a good thing...making use of stupidly high pain tolerance to not take care of one's self isn't so much. (Not that he has much room to talk.)]

I wish you luck with that...and if I meet anyone like that I will send them your way.

[Someone needs to tell that to Izuku's face...!!]

[He bows again and then goes to say his goodbye and to purchase his new weapon. It's going to be very useful to have in the coming months on his quests! And he'll be looking into some acupuncture for his old injuries too. He's learned a lot today.]
