[Snagglefoot Miffen is the name of the thief that has snatched up some precious gems from a local jewelry shop in Camelot. And if there is one thing that Izuku can’t tolerate as a student studying to be a hero? It’s crime, of course! When he had seen the task, he had signed up right away. Being away from his homeworld and his school hasn’t taken anything away from Izuku’s determination to be a hero and to help out whenever he can.

But this thief is chalking it up to be quite the challenge. A slippery fellow that once Izuku gets a single lead is off before Izuku can reach the next one. He’s been tracking the man through the streets as fast as he can, but the thief seems to be one step ahead of him so far. The next lead means he’ll be heading to the Red Springs Inn next. That means Izuku has to get there before he does.]

Alright, I’m not letting him get ahead of me this time. Even if I’m here... I still have to be. Plus Ultra!

[There is a flicker of magic as Izuku places his hands on a nearby tree. A flash and a bang later and the tree transmutes and grows into a twisted-looking wooden ladder with footholds and all. Izuku is then climbing up the ladder onto the roof of the nearby building and is then running and leaping from roof to roof. Better for the bird’s eye view and to get to the Red Spring Inn faster! Occasionally, only stopping to transmute more branches and tall hanging trees into planks to use as a jumping point to the next roof or ledge!

[b: quest: farmers-r-us]

[Farming is still helping and Izuku is just glad that he can lend a hand. Alchemy magic also seems to be a good thing to have in this regard. He’s working with the local farmers with helping the new crops sprout. He’s slow at the work at first but he’s getting better at it bit by bit. And when he’s not helping with the crops himself he is also a healthy strong boy so moving supplies and hauling tools or crops is right up his alley too. The hard work feels nice!

What he doesn’t notice right away while he’s working is the small next of pixies that have seemed to have nested in a corner of the field he’s working in. One moment he is kneeling down to plant and work on some seedlings when his foot catches a part of the nest buried in the brush.]

Eh-??! [Whoosh!!

In an instant, the nest of pixies erupts like a swarm of bees flying around him in a pink and glittery haze! His hair flies up and sticks there as he blinks rapidly at the swarm whooshing all around him! He flails!]

Ah-!! Ack- AHHHHiiii!!

[How does he get the swarm of ~~bees~~ pixies to stop?! They’re starting to chant some sort of magic or charm and the air is starting to spark!]

[c: 🥦 broadsword shopping]

[Being in a fantasy world like this and without his usual quirk Izuku has realized he needs a way to keep up with combat and battle without being able to use his usual superpowers. Alchemy isn’t always a combat type of magic (or at least he hasn’t quite honed a way to use it in a combative way just yet) so he thinks with a weapon that it would be a good way to supplement his skills.

And who doesn’t want a big as heck sword to go with this entire fantasy world vibe?? Like right out of a JRPG!?

Izuku is browsing a local blacksmith and weapons store. Looking at a row of the broadswords that might fit his style and his grip. He’s never bought a sword before so he is a little out of his league right now but looking at the weapons is just … so freaking cool.]

Uaa... These swords are amazing! I can’t believe I’m really here and I can get one…!

[d: 🥦 alchemy studying]

[Izuku is still very new to alchemy but he is getting the hang of transmuting organic matter. Wood, plants and the like came to him easily enough. But with his classmates learning their own magic he does want to try and see if he can study enough to help them as well. With Katsuki and Tsuyu both using light magic, he has figured that the faster he learns how to change and manipulate glass, metal and precious stones? The better.

And that is where Izuku is right now. He’s sitting on a bench outside as he tinkers with a handful of copper pieces and a container full of sand. He’s currently trying to transmute the copper pieces into different shapes and later trying to change the sand into proper glass lenses.

Holding the piece of copper in his hand Izuku suddenly winces as his magic flashes and burns his skin. He drops the copper piece with a clatter! This is going to take some practice...]

If I can get copper and sand to work right... I can start making magnifying lenses...

[Izuku is starting to mutter to himself!]

[ It's less stressful and more embarrassing. Awkward. They haven't talked about that much like they haven't talked about the reason they had gotten into it at that inn made of ice. Honestly it's starting to build up isn't it? An issue that at least Bakugou doesn't want to fully acknowledge that's there, but it's going to blow up eventually.

All of their stupid problems usually do.

That's neither here nor there today. It's another thing that Katsuki is using to push all of that down. Focus on this matter rather than the other one because he has control over this at least. He looks up from his hands as he sees the nerd trotting on over, looking way too excited.

Do you really got to bring notebooks with you everywhere? I thought you wanted a demonstration, not an entire goddamn analysis.

[It's not something that Izuku is really ready to talk about either. Easier to push away those complicated things and just focus on how they're all working together to help Katsuki get some gear made for his light magic. And Katsuki is even been cooperative about it! How can he pass that up-?

Even if things blow up in their faces later... Right now he's so much better at just throwing himself into studying.

He holds his notebook with a tight clutch and smiles sheepishly.]

It's better if I take notes so I know exactly what I need to focus on, Kacchan. If I'm right your magic is going to be different than what Tsu-chan can do so I want to make sure I've got everything written down so I don't forget.

[Sorry, the notebook isn't going anywhere.]

[ Even if he doesn't need to, Bakugou is taking the time to stretch. It helps clear his mind. Focus. Right now the blonde is going to need plenty of that to push himself. He has to get better at this. Has to excel. ]

We're capable of doing the same shit.

[ Because it's the same type. ]

Our brains work different. That's why it will develop differently.

That's right, you both might develop different styles.

[Izuku opens his notebook...]

For example, Tsu-chan has been working on shields that can stop projectiles. But you want to work on an offensive approach instead, right?

[ He flexes his fingers now. Little fragments and flickers of light shimmer at his fingertips. ]

Shields are easy. [ He's gotten those down pretty well. But then again that shouldn't be a surprise since he's as close as he is with Kirishima. They also work well together and that means understanding that hardening Quirk. ] But with her Quirk all of this won't come as naturally.

[ Because it's animal characteristics rather than producing or drawing from some inner source. But it might be different. Who knows. He's not close to her. ]

Still gonna work on barriers, but a lot of good that does if I can't fight for myself too.

Yeah, I want to make sure I see how she's doing too and what she might need. That'll be another day.

[Comparability with quirks and magic sure are a thing. And luckily Izuku and Momo have been discussing a lot.]

Anyway- Kacchan! Can you show me some of what you can do? How about those shields or barriers?

[That same nerdy spark in his eye! Happy to help! And happy to get to see Kacchan work!]

[ Fine. Deku wants to get to work? Then let's get to work.

Bakugou turns and stands there, then puts hands in his pockets. ]

All right, nerd. So come at me.

[ This is going to be a practical training. For them both. ]

[And here is Izuku standing there like he's about to be an observer and not really partake in the demonstration-]

Alright if you could... Eh?

[... Wait a minute. Huh?]

Come at- Kacchan, I don't think I need to...?

[... They haven't really sparred or fought in a while now that he thinks about it. But without his quirk, Izuku can't help feeling that tiny bit of uncertain inferiority creep up on him. He looks down and tries to will it away quickly. And his alchemy isn't anything close to helping him in a combative way yet.]

I SAID -

[ Bakugou takes a more ready stance. His hands are now out of his pockets. They take their usual place at his sides, palms up and fingers curled. Katsuki can't blow things up but it is a habit. ]

COME AT ME!

[ Then he is the one sprinting at Izuku full force. Apparently he doesn't think much of the shitty nerd's lack of magic or Quirk. Just because the enhanced speed and strength is non-existent doesn't mean the combat skills are. ]

Wai- Wait-! Ka-aaaa!! ????

[Of course Katsuki is charging him-- And completely by instinct Izuku's hands come up and clench into fists (effectively tossing the notebook high into the air) and he prepares to take his opponent on with his own counter. A punch to the stomach first-!!]

... Nhh!!

[He doesn't realize how good it actually feels to be attacked and to defend? Because who usually feels good about being attacked? And by Katsuki.

Maybe he does need this?!]

DON'T TELL ME YOU'RE TOO CHICKEN SHIT TO FIGHT BACK JUST BECAUSE YOU LOST YOUR QUIRK, HAAA!?

[ The counter is going to be met with a barrier. Katsuki twists his body around and uses his own barrier as a stepping stone so he can aim a high round house kick at Deku's head.

Instinct is still there. Skill is still there. No reason to fall behind and get rusty! ]

YOU'LL FALL BEHIND ME WITH THAT ATTITUDE!

No! Ahh-!

[His fist collides hard with the barrier! And heck- does it hurt to hit things without the power of a quirk stabilizing his body?! OW.

But he doesn't flinch! ~~his pain tolerance is still way too high~~ Because adrenaline is already starting to hit him and he immediately ducks and grabs for Katsuki's ankle in a block and reverse throw. Aiming to throw Katsuki away from him so he can gain some footing.]

I'm not scared-! There's no way I'm backing down just because I don't have my quirk! I can still keep up with you! Kacchan!!

[Looks like he's back! ... And kind of grinning as he rushes Katsuki too!]

[ There we go! That's the Deku that he wants to see. That's the one that Bakugou wants to beat and prove himself to. Not the stuttering, insecure one. No... The one that Katsuki wants is this one - the confident one. ]

LET'S JUST SEE!

[ So it's definitely going to be tit for tat in his exchange. Katsuki has gotten good at making barriers appear - but this should come as no surprise that once he manages to grasp a concept that he would be able to adapt it to his needs on the fly. He catches himself on his barriers and uses them as a launching point for attacking or for deflecting Deku's attacks.

Of course Deku's no slouch either, right? Once he starts to get his grove going, Katsuki knows that he'll have to come up with different strategies too. For now this is enough, isn't it? Just having it out with fists? ]

[It's almost annoying how quick it takes for Izuku to fall back into this. To feel the rush of fists and kicks against the other. The rush he feels in his lungs at just being able to move! Being able to keep up with Katsuki is more than enough to make him forget about the feeling of his quirk being gone and that feeling of quirkless-powerlessness that's still sitting in the back of his head and heart. If he can still fight. If he can still keep up with someone as brilliant and bright as Katsuki...]

Gah-!!

[But heck these barriers that he's throwing up and using as ricochet walls are really annoying! Izuku takes a blow to the side of the face and another to the side of the torso and gets a shot of air knocked out of him.

Well... He did want to learn about that light magic!]

Even with your barriers- using them as platforms...! Nh-!

[There isn't enough time to admire the quick thinking. Izuku can only launch forward and use one of them to duck under himself before popping forward and aiming for a hard uppercut to Katsuki's jaw! At least Izuku still has his fancy footwork and speed!]

[ It's because, deep down, Katsuki and Izuku are the same. Same passions. Same desires. They both want the same things out of life, even if they take different trips to get there. That's not always clear to each other when they use words, but this? Getting beaten and banged up? Feeling their fists and kicks connect? That's when they feel alive. That's when they really understand each other. Katsuki doesn't know why it always seems to work this way, but it does.

This is the place where he can be acknowledged by Izuku. It's where he can acknowledge Izuku.

His grin is feral as Izuku tries to pay him a complement. Good! Notice him! Notice how quickly he is getting things and hurry and catch up! Here they're both starting from ground zero. Here they're both at the same starting point. So whoever develops their skills first and to their fullest is the one that has the true potential to be #1. ]

You can admire from the ground!

[ It's in talking that Izuku does land this blow - quick little shit to use one of those barriers himself! Katsuki would expect no less. But then, even as he is taking a step back, he grabs onto Izuku. It's a sort of bear hug that Katsuki is going to use; the momentum from his stumble is going to be utilized in trying to throw Deku onto the ground. Essentially attempting to slam him. ]

[~~and that's why they're drift compatible~~ He's been rushing his own magic because he does want to keep up. He wants to push forward and learn everything that he can because without his quirk he feels that rock of quirklessness in his body again. But he knows better. He knows that all of them are feeling the same way now. They're at the starting line and they all have to sprint forward now. At the same time.

... He refuses to be left behind. He won't watch Katsuki's back this time. He won't.

Yet Katsuki's sure body power and quick thinking do get him for a moment. The grapple is taken and Izuku lets out a yell as he's thrown and slammed into the ground. The ache of the blows makes him feel awake, focused... He's not stopping. He rolls to the side and tries to collect himself before launching himself at Katsuki once again. Aiming to punch him harder, be faster...!

Little does he know that the ground at Izuku's feet is reacting to sparks of alchemy magic too... The ground is starting to bubble and heat up where his feet leave.]

[ Ah but it's Katsuki that refuses to be left behind. He's not going to watch Izuku's back anymore. He won't.

This! This is more like it! Shitty Deku putting his all into it and not giving him something half assed. Maybe the nerd doesn't notice the magic stemming from his person, but Katsuki does. Oh he does because he pays so much damn attention to this asshole.

But if he wants things to really heat up? Then maybe that's what he should do! Katsuki will continue to dodge. Needs to put some distance between them. He ducks one blow and twists a leg out to knock Deku's feet out from under him.

It's all so that he can attempt to create a bubble-like barrier around Deku and that growing heat. If he traps the nerd inside then eventually the nerd will pass out from it. Not exactly the way that Bakugou would like to win, but he's got to use what he has here, right? ]

[Maybe someday they'll realize that side by side is the best way to go--

But right now Izuku is much too distracted in trying to find a weak point in Katsuki's approach. New magic and skills mean Izuku has to determine exactly what Katsuki is doing faster than ever.

The barrier that erupts around him takes him by surprise but he has enough reflexes in him to not get knocked over by Katsuki's kick. Instead, he jumps and plants his feet on the barrier. But with it closing in on him Izuku is suddenly getting-- boxed in?]

Kacchan-!! [Heck, he's practically about to yell at Katsuki, teeth clenched and his fist colliding with the barrier wall.]

[ Maybe someday. Right now they are just hotblooded teenagers.

Teenagers that are not yet practiced at their respected magical art. Izuku has no control whatsoever over this magic at his feet. Katsuki kind of realizes that a little too late. Going down to trip Izuku up might have been a bad idea. The ground is no longer stable - too soft. In the attempt to get to his feet and jump away, Katsuki actually stumbles and falls back as Izuku comes forward.

His back hits the barrier at the same time Izuku's fists too. ]

Shit!

[Little does Izuku know that it is his own alchemy that is making the ground weaker. That magic snaps and crackles into it forming bubbles and heated dirt that trip Katuski right up. But hey- he's going to use it to his advantage! Or at least try to.]

Ka-

[They're sort of stumbling between the two walls of magical barriers now, Izuku coming forward to try and punch Katuski again but the crack against the back barrier also trips him up. And the ground is still pushing upwards and turning to soft mud!]

Ah-!

Hey! Stop moving!

[ Because he can't get to his feet like this. He doesn't like the feeling of the ground turning into something softer like mud. Katsuki doesn't want to feel like he's being pulled into it. It reminds him a little too much of that slime villain. ]

YOU'RE THE ONE DOING THIS SHIT TO THE GROUND DEKU!

I'm not-! I ... am??

[What is he doing? Izuku spots the ground at Katsuki's feet and then it all sort of clicks for him. It makes sense- If he can transmute twigs and other organic material it only makes sense that he can do it with the ground. Just like he did back in the elevator shaft as well--

He doesn't know how to stop-! And this is still a spar, isn't it!?]

If you're allowed to use barriers against me, I can use alchemy in a fight too!

[So it's going to start shifting even more under Katsuki's feet!]

You wanna keep going huh...

[ THEN HE WILL KEEP FIGHTING. ...By headbutting Izuku straight in the stomach. Katsuki will then grab around Izuku's knees and lock his arms into place. That's when he's start to attempt to knock the other off balance and off to the side to fall over. ]

Ophh--!!

[Ow- A headbutt to his stomach?! That's a low blow that has the air knock out of Izuku and the arms locked around his legs obviously do just that. He wheezes as he's knocked off balance completely all the while still trying to kick Katsuki off him.

Now this is becoming more of a slapstick fight than a proper fight or spar...]

Stop!! Get off, Kacchan!

LIKE HELL! I said to stop and you didn't wanna!

[ So he's not going to. Katsuki grabs one of those kicking ankles. Using it, he draaaaaags Izuku in until he looks the other in those stupid green eyes. His grin grows feral. Katsuki then tries to get himself to his knees -

When his shoulders hit something. ]

...Ha?

[ Apparently during the scuffle the barrier's sort of. Shrunk. ]
