Let’s make this day the best in the world | Valentine's Day Concert

Backstage

Backstage was a busy place during the whole concert. There were people getting ready, people helping people get ready and even just friends visiting them to wish them good luck (or to break a leg) or just help relieve some of the stage fright. Each artist or group had access to a room of their own if they needed some alone time. All they had to do was put up a sign that the room was in use.

On the stage

The theater stage was decorated with appropriate Valentine's Day decorations - roses, hearts and other simple, but meaningful things. The curtain would come down whenever someone needed time to prepare the stage to look different and there were several talented musicians helping out to bring live music to the stage.

As they say, they stage is for the performers to take as their own, one or several at a time.

In the audience

The audience has seatings for those who desire it, but there is also a space for anyone to stand and dance. There's plenty of space even if there is a section of the audience sectioned off for a... pool? Why was there a pool in the theater? Well, it certainly wasn't for just anyone to casually swim in but instead it was reserved for a special guest making an appearance at the concert.

The Lady of the Lake had been invited by Ren to watch the concert. To be fair, he had also invited King Arthur, Merlin and the Lady Morganna, but only the Lady of the Lake had accepted the invitation (although looking at Merlin's instagram afterwards may prove different, as he was there but just under a disguise).

Snacks and beverages are also being served at the theater lobby. Of course, since it was Valentine's Day, there was plenty of chocolate to go around.

After-party

While the after-party was mostly aimed at performers to celebrate a successful concert, no one was turned away from it. Anyone wanting to visit the party to congratulate on the success or to just chat with the performers was definitely welcome to.

The party was hosted at the theater too, since why not use the space you needed to clean up the next day anyway. Anyone was also welcome to join the clean up process the next day as well, but Ren certainly wouldn't force anyone to help out.

1. Backstage

[With the guitar slung over his shoulders, he's practicing several riffs from the songs that they will play. He doesn't look nervous at all; people that do know him can tell that he's excited about this from the way his fingers are expertly strumming, warming up before the big show.
But, he can't see any of his bandmates yet. They aren't late, are they!? Uenoyama pauses in his practice to look up and around the place, spotting a lot of performers.]

Hey, [he stops one passing by] have you seen my bandmates? [Maybe Uenoyama's the one that's lost here. It happened before!]

2. After-party

[Partying isn't Uenoyama's forte. He's not anti-social by any means, but he's also not... good at this either. He usually spends time after big show with Mafuyu, talking about what they did good or wrong and just being, well, them. It's also usually always late so they don't have to worry about things.

But there's a bustle of people around here, the buttoned-up shirt is suffocating him (it didn't on stage?) and the newest piercing he got, the earring, is itching for him to get it off (it didn't itch before!). He picks up one of the red cups and downs whatever it is in it, then makes a face.]

Was that... [Yes, it probably was. Whoops.

Trying not to look out of place, he walks up to a random group of people and just... listens to what they are talking about. Maybe tries to snoop on how good their performance was. ]

Still alive!

[ Surprised as he was to be dumped into the lake, he isn't surprised to be alive; tenacity is a strong suit of his. And, if he's offended by her not knowing his name, he doesn't show it and has no reason to— all this means to him is that she's just somebody who fishes people out, and doesn't hand pick them specifically. ]

I'm Karma Akabane. And you're... Nimuë? Viviane? Or do you just go by "The Lady?"

They perform two songs- "Yoru ga Akeru" (The Dawn will come) and "Hetakuso" ("I suck/I'm bad [at this]").

The first song is performed under all different shades of light blue and orange/yellow lights as if imitating the 'Dawn'. The second song has more of a cheerful tone with all of the colorful lights being used, with reds, yellows, and greens more predominant, to accompany the cheerful tune.

"You were looking for me?" she couldn't even imagine why. When he explains she blushes and shakes her head. "That is... very kind of you to say, Mickey. But I made something of a fool of myself up there, I think."

Wouldn't you like to know.

[ She gives him a little laugh, propping her elbow on the edge of the pool and her chin on the palm of her hand. ]

Giving someone your true name can be dangerous if you run into the wrong kind of magic. Why do you think your familiars go with whatever name you decide they're called?

I thought maybe they're tired of people butchering the native tongue and the nickname is less effort?

[ But nah, his familiar is a proud one— quiet for the most part, content to watch the world through Karma's eyes and intervene very rarely. He figures they're a lot alike, and wouldn't tolerate being called something stupid unless the alternative is more dangerous.

He takes a sip of his drink, tentatively reaching out with his cognitive magic without real high hopes that it would work on the Lady. ]

I'm kinda flattered you think I'm dangerous enough to be wary around, though? But I'm just some normal kid, you know? There's really no harm in telling me your name.

You mean the concert? This is the first since I've been here but we had a bunch off tournaments last month.

You know, I come by the lake pretty often. If there's any cool events coming up, I could bring you a flyer or something. It must be kinda lonely being in the lake all the time with people literally dropping in unexpectedly all the time.

[ He got dragged back here to help people move things around, he's 100% just muscle. Maybe that's why he's so surprised when one of the performers wants something from him other than running errands. Not like he minds, even though he's getting bossed around like an errand boy his energy is up and he's smiling. Although his smile pulls awkwardly at the request. ]

Maybe you should ask one of the other performers? I might hurt you.

[ Ichiban is a full grown man and a buff ex-yakuza guy at that. ]

Or maybe I shouldn't give it all I've got? You just want to perk up before you go on, right?

[ Ichiban is pretty starstruck to be allowed into this after party. He's never gotten to hang out with this kind of crowd before back home! He's having a great time getting impromptu tutorials on some of the dances from the performers themselves?! And yeah, probably eating some of the snacks. He sticks out in the room. His hair is a mess from a perm that went wrong once upon a time, he's big, he's buff, his suit is ugly. But the genuine smile and enthusiasm on his face is infectious. ]

Hey! [ He greets her with an eager wave. ] You were Pink prism! I liked your dance.

Ichi got pulled in last minute to help around backstage. He's been getting ordered around for costumes, drinks, move this, lift that. He doesn't mind. The energy and excitement of it all is fun for him, and he earnestly wants to help everyone going out to perform today to do their best!

When Aurora backs in to him, he currently has an armful of sparkly petticoats that he's supposed to be delivering, but he stops to reassure her. He's a little bit intimidating at first glance, a big muscular older man, but his expression is very kind.

"Is this your first time performing on stage?"

[ He got pulled in at the very last minute because he looked like a strong dude to haul some stuff around backstage. Now he's just running errands wherever people are telling him to. He doesn't mind, this is a lot of fun. ]

I'm bringing around water for everybody. And is this petticoat yours?

[ He holds it up. It is glittery and it has also gotten glitter all over him. It shows up very clearly in his messy puff of hair and on his very ugly red suit. ]

Somebody sent me over here with it but...

[ They were non-specific about which of the dressing rooms. He rubs the back of his head sheepishly. ]

That, too.

[ He's a cheeky one. It works, sort of. She's been around a lot longer than a kid with a hefty pair on him, and not human at that; she can feel it's happening, and divert her answer to both fulfill the hypnosis and avoid answering. ]

My name is the Lady of the Lake. I have many names, and you've been told one. [ He really should be more specific. Loopholes abound. ] I can feel every ounce of water in this world, including in your body, so how about you watch your magic and I'll watch mine.

[ She twirls her finger, using her magic to stir the liquids inside of his stomach to make her point. Harmlessly, but enough that he should be able to feel it. ]

Merpeople aren't that bad company that I just wait around for you all to show up.

[ She laughs. People are so funny that they think she just sits in the water waiting for them. ]

The phones don't work underwater long-term. If you bring Archimedes bottles of new sauces, he'll summon me.

[ He does, in fact, not know anything about sauce bottles nor care, but it'll piss him off, and then he'll call the Lady of the Lake to ask why people keep bringing him sauce. So same effect. ]

Merpeople? Huh, I had no idea there were people living down there. Do they prefer to keep to themselves?

[He rubs his chin thoughtfully.]

Sauces, huh. I'll have to remember that.

[Poor Archimedes.]

Actually, I do have a question about the people that arrive in the lake...if you don't mind?

They eat human souls. I asked them to stay away from the White Cliffs for a bit.

[ She shrugs, relaxing down in the water. The music hasn't started yet, so it's not like she's got anything better to do. ]

What's your question?

[You...have to give him a minute. Because the idea that there's something out there that eats human souls has literally drained all of the color from his face.]

[After about a minute of stammering and staring dumbly, he manages to get his thoughts together enough to form his question.]

Do you know if there's...um...any rhyme or reason to who gets pulled here from their worlds...?

Oh, easy one!

[ She flicks the water a little and a little visual show comes up. The water takes shape into a person and what looks like a dolphin with wings. ]

Familiars can't bond with just anyone. They have to find someone whose being they are compatible with.

[ The dolphin heads toward the person and goes right through it, turning around in confusion. The water bursts and forms into three sisters, one stirring a cauldron and switching off with the other. ]

The Three Sisters normally are charged with keeping watch over time itself, but with it frozen, they're using their ability to peer through time to work with familiars to find those who match.

[ The dolphin comes back and peers over the cauldron, then a little heart pops up above their head. ]

They find one, the familiar forms a spiritual bond, and I can pull you into the enchanted waters of the Lake of Avalon through it.

[ The person reappears, then all the water falls back into the pool. ]

Yessssss, that's me! Prism Pink! [ Fingerguns!! ] Nice to meetcha!

[ She's still so amped up from the excitement of being on stage that she's bouncing on the balls of her feet as they talk. ]

I'm really glad you liked it! I was gonna try and shoot for two of 'em, but I figured it was better just to go all out on one, you know?

That just makes him blink. Her, a fool? He doesn't think she could look that way even if she tried. "What makes you say that? You have a really nice singing voice! It almost felt like a dream!"

[Uenoyama isn't the only one not good at partying. Kadoc had decided to attend this concert as the first major thing he was going to participate in somehow in this strange new world—well, participating is just listening for him, when it comes to music. His participation had been limited to curling up in a seat away from other people and just zoning out listening to everyone's sets. But that had been . . . honestly, kind of awesome, and he'd felt awesome enough himself after to decide to attend the party.

. . . Now he's remembering why he never does that. It's so awkward being around everyone, not knowing what to say or even why he's bothering trying to think of anything to say at all. In other words, he's wallflowering, hovering around by refreshments and the literal wall and not much of anywhere else.

It just so happens he witnesses the cup incident. So now here's this guy, curled up against the wall with a bottle of water, heavily pierced himself, watching that go down with the barest smile on his face. This he can't help but comment on.]

Did you just slam back that whole thing without checking? . . . You really are living the musician lifestyle.

[Oh yeah, that performance had been memorable, all right. Kadoc, who did not perform and didn't even mingle among the other spectators—but who had poked into the party on a stupid whim anyway, and is now also not mingling much here—was not exactly expecting to be chatted up by one of the musicians. Maybe that was foolish of him. This is a party, and that's kind of the point of parties . . .

The truth is, Crow's performance had been his favorite of the lot; it was the most to Kadoc's tastes of the sets performed. But there's something else he's just got to say before he gets to the awkward nervous praise portion of the evening:]

. . . What was with the cattle thing? That's been on my mind all night.

[ With that sort of answer, he can't tell whether his magic worked or not- or whether it's him not being able to use his magic to full effect or whether it's because the Lady of the Lake isn't effected by it. That little experiment of his tells him little more than the fact that she can tell when it's being used, and that maybe he shouldn't use it on her. Maybe. ]

Ugh. I got it, I got it! But if you can control that, it's not gonna be my fault if I accidentally hurl into your pool, alright?

[ Leave his stomach alone!! She could have made her point by making the hot chocolate in his cup dance or something. ]

I live in a lake, you think I've never seen something gross before?

[ She does leave him alone though. Now that they've come to that understanding she scoots a little closer. ]

You've got guts though. You have to know I'm millennia more experienced than you.

I don't doubt it! All these people peeing in your lake all the time.

[ WHY is she scooting closer... He takes another sip of his drink, wondering if she can feel the hot chocolate slide down his throat. Now he's going to feel self conscious all the time. ]

Anyways, it's because you're more experienced that I can do it. After all, I'm no threat to you.

[ Being weaker, there is no need for him to hold back. If he feared for his life, he doesn't think the Lady would be one to kill him. ]

[Crow is happy to see Mickey. Finally, he's heard the music he's been bragging about! At least, there's proof he can actually sing!]

You liked it, huh? I'm glad, and I hoped you were moved by my crimson vocals and lyrics!

[ His genre of music is pretty well known in his world, so it's surprising to know that Mickey has never heard of it.]
