| At least one of the guests to the Unnamed Marsh who encountered the Will O Wisps had the right idea: get all of the candles lit at the same time. (Thank Emet-Selch!) Once the candles are lit, the Unnamed Marsh seems to warm up quite a bit-- which means it is very muggy and uncomfortable, but it also means the bugs that were underground that hatch a little later in the year are warm enough to start hatching and increase the food supply for the waning population. It's a temporary measure, but with the help of Otherworlders, the Unnamed Marshes have been given an extended chance at life with this little plan of the Wisps. |
CONTENT WARNINGS:
- 1st Prompt: --
- 2nd Prompt: Drowning, poison, skinning, beheading.
- 3rd Prompt: --
![]() |

This part of the event takes place on April 18th.
With the Unnamed Marshes' stay of execution, the Wisps head to Camelot and any townships nearby late at night, sneaking through window sills, door locks, any little crevices they can to break into the homes of Otherworlders and flitter around them as if to say 'Hey, Listen!' They are absolutely demanding attention and that people come with them. Though you may be able to resist after some time and shoo them off, it won't be without dealing with the will o' wisps rather... mischievous attempt to get your attention. |
| |
![]() This part of the event takes place any time April 18th through April 20th. | ||
| Those who follow, however, will be led to the Unnamed Marshes. This time, there is a fleet of elemental mage-powered airboats. Those with elemental magic are welcome to drive their own (and may in fact use them at any time in the future to explore the marshes), but for those who don't, this one time they will be escorted by the elemental mages of the Unnamed Marshes. Where the airboats go? To the one and only village in the Unnamed Marshes, Malous. (Mal-us, not mallows- They don't appreciate the mispronounced pun and will attempt to push anyone who makes it into the marsh water). Only those who are both given permission by the marshes and have guides to get them through (like the Will o' Wisps, who are now willing to lead Otherworlders through as long as they don't do anything to cause harm to the marshes) are able to find Malous. The Malous mages will explain that the Unnamed Marshes are experiencing an | |
unprecedented loss of life ever since a newcomer- the Fisher King- had come to their settlement. He's since gone into hiding, but they need help to find him, as they cannot leave Malous unguarded for long. Anyone who offers to help will be provided with the recipe for Malous totems (which will later be available for purchase via rewards for anyone who does not participate). That said, unless your character is a master of their magic, they should not be wandering apart from the group. Beginner-level mages will be in big trouble here given the number of unfriendly creatures.
| ||

This portion of the event takes place after the previous prompt, whenever characters give in to the will o' wisps' demands.
There's a reason that people don't get very far in the swamps past a certain point without guides. But those who either follow directions not to look at anything or stray from the boats, or otherwise expertly fight off whatever they've drawn the attention of, will end up in Malous: a village built floating entirely on the water out of reeds harvested from the marsh itself and woven together with the intricacy of baskets. The people of the village itself, including the mages that had been taking human form to greet you, are clearly not human... rather, Malous are fairies of the mushroom variety. Taking a wide variety of forms, all of these fae seem to resemble different types of mushrooms. Large caps, fibrous beards or hair, frilled bottoms that look like dresses but are in fact fungal, even some stranger ones whose heads look like intricate up-dos that are, in fact, mushroom caps. The younger they are, the further from human form they are, so it's certainly possible to see some of the children fae running around looking like portabellas with arms, legs, and beady little eyes. The older fae have a much more humanoid look. |
| |
The Malous act very serious and delight in chasing and terrifying others.. but they are secretly a kind folk. They may chase you through a haunted house pretending they're going to devour your soul, but if you get stuck behind a rusty gate they'll step past you and open it before proceeding to chase you again. Much like their name sounding like the word malice, but being a word that means "loveable" or "beautiful," they act differently than they actually are... you know, unless you say something along the lines of "They're actually pretty fungis." Yet another push into the water for you. Hope you haven't accidentally looked at anything you shouldn't be while you're in there.

Toshirou Hijikata | Gintama (Primatica CRAU)
1) Willfull Wisps
[Since the Fisher King was nowhere to be found during the initial expedition to the Unnamed Marshed the participants eventually returned to Camelot. Hijikata, back at his campsite, updated his ghosts subordinates on the latest developments, rather unsatisfied to not have been able to capture the cursed king, and they spent some time brainstorming about where he exactly might have hidden.
Only a few nights later he's woken up by a strange faint glow in between his small sleeping tent and the larger tent he put it up inside of. As soon as he sticks his head out of the former the wisps dance with excitement, move to the outer tent's flap and back to Hijikata, move in cirles around his head...]
Alright, what's the matter? Did something happen?
[He gets dressed, grabs his equipment, and follows the wisps outside - only to see that they want to lead him northwards.]
Hey, where are we going? To the Brocéliande? Or the Lands of Rot? Or the mountains? I'm not walking all the way across this island!
[Still, he follows. Right now he assumes that they probably want to lead him to somebody in need of help in the vicinity, but perhaps on the way he'll run into someone else and come to realise that these little lights are mobilising as many people as they can...]
2) Marsh Malice
[So they're back in the Unnamed Marshes. Hijikata is a little disgruntled; why did the wisps let them all trek back home only to bring them back so soon?! His aggravation diminishes as he and the other outworlders present are greeted by some people who introduce themselves as locals and offer to give them passage to the only town in the swamp. He's surprised that there is a settlement here... the marshes are so foggy and labyrinthine, it's hardly a wonder that they all missed it the first time around.
And not enough with that: the locals warn everybody to not look at anything in the water. "They will leave you alone as long as you don't look at them, but you're likely to get dragged to hell if you do"... creepy!! As an elemental mage he's able to power his own airboat. When someone approaches to ride with him (because he sure as hell isn't going alone!) he gives them a firm stare.]
Get on board, but just so we're clear: we won't stop for anyone or anything!
3) Marsh Malous
A) ⦿ Supply Shopping
[After a hair-raising trip they arrive in Malous. It's far less of a posh location than Camelot or Nicnevin, Celliwig or Lestari, but it's good to be on (somewhat) solid ground again after all the scares on the water. The apparent human locals assume their true form here, and all the other villagers look distinctly fungal as well. Hijikata remembers the more sparse mushrooms growing on Queen Elphame... perhaps she has a bit of these people's blood in her?
He looks at the wares of a shop while wolfing down a mayonnaise sandwich (he's only taking a break because he's starving, okay) to see if they sell anything that might be useful against the Fisher King if he encounters him. The elderly shopkeeper slowly walks up to him and gingerly picks up a tall jar filled with what looks like pickled eyeballs.]
Might I interest you in one of these, young man?
Huh?! What-- what sort of eyes are those?
[They all seem to be looking at him! Creepy!! The old man's voice turns gravelly as he puts a gentle hand against the glass.]
The eyes of those who did not look away. Those who were dragged down into the depths.
[Hijikata isn't looking so fresh anymore, and the rest of the sandwich just drops from his hand. Just exactly what kind of place is this?!]
B) ⦿ Looking for the Fisher King
[Much as Hijikata is creeped out by the marshes' black water and its terrifying inhabitants, they have to search for the cursed king whose presence is killing the habitat! So he sets out on the airboat once more, again with a companion because after being scared by the shopkeeper he wants to be alone even less!! As the boat quietly moves along he suddenly gets startled, then leans towards the person accompanying him to whisper.]
Isn't someone standing there in the reeds?
[This is too goddamn spooky!!]
[OOC: If you'd like to plot please hit up my plotting post or send me a PM!]
supply shopping
In Hijikata's abject shock and silence, Somnus steps forward, addressing the mushroom-like fae. ]

Jade Leech | Open
[Don't make eye contact with anything swimming in the water? What a stupidly simple rule to follow, Jade thinks to himself. Being trained in magic, he knows all sorts of petty rules like that, so it's easy to follow.
But if you, his boatmate, seem like you're unable to comply, he'll grab you and quickly bury your face against his chest, ignoring any protest.]
Behave yourself. Just focus on the task at hand. I would rather not have to jump in after you. Not in a place like this.
March Malice B (herons)
Did you have to go off like that by yourself? Surely such advice as stay together should be common sense.
[He's smiling and his tone is light as if giving a gentle reprimand, but the criticism is still there.]
You're lucky the poison didn't immediately kill you. And even more so, you are fortunate that I am here to help you. So come on and let me heal you.
[He's been practicing his magic little by little, so naturally Jade's excited to see how far his healing has come. Maybe too happy. But surely not? Surely he feels bad you are poisoned? Maybe?]
Marsh Malous A (Village Exploration)
[Every moment since Jade has stepped into this village has been a delightful one. He's always been fascinated by different sorts of fungi since he first came to the surface in his first year of school. And to find a whole village of unique mushroom lifeforms?
Delightful!
He's been chatting very animatedly with anyone he meets and indulging in all their harmless trickery and games. Anyone who knows Jade might notice that he seems positively ecstatic, so different from his normal gentlemanly air.
Right now, one of the children is sitting on his shoulder, likely enjoying the high view as Jade talks to her.]
And that's how you make a man pay up. The 'good cop, bad cop act' is very important.
[...should you be worried about what he's teaching this impressionable child?]
Marsh Malous B (kissing)
[Did you get turned into some kind of animal and need a kiss? Well, you'll find Jade sitting on a log, doing some drawings of the locals when you come across him. When he sees you, he gives a puzzled smile.]
Why hello there. I'm afraid I have nothing to eat, but I mean you no harm.
[There is an intelligence behind this visitor's eyes though. How peculiar.]
Wildcard
[If you want to pull him into earlier will o wisp adventures, fighting against spooky monsters, village exploration, searching for the Fisher King, or anything else for that matter, feel free to throw it all at me. He's pretty up for anything in the event and his magical abilities (Healing and Green) should be pretty useful here. Feel free to pm me on this journal, plurk
village exploration
Granted, if you'd make an entire list of the things Minako is seeing right here in the village that she didn't expect to see, there would probably be no end to it. But most of those things have to do with the odd things present in this place, and not so much with someone she recognizes but who doesn't.. quite act like the way she expects.
At first she just watches Jade with the child, not wanting to interrupt, but when she realises what he's telling the child..
That makes it a different story entirely.
So she quickly approaches the two, staring between Jade and the child - but mostly at the former. ]
Um.. what are you two doing?

Marsh Malice B
[The short one, not the heavier long one. The heron snuck up on him so soundlessly that he only realised the theft once it was already taking off, but after a short pursuit he managed to catch up with the bogged-down bird and wrangle the weapon back, underlining his determination with some fire magic. He only received a few scratches from the heron's talons, but that was enough to make him crumple within a minute.]
This sword is irreplaceable.
[Jade probably can't understand, not being a warrior and all, but he wants to justify himself! Being scolded by a teenager makes him argumentative... only that he's not in any shape to argue right now, so he's actually quite relieved that Jade is a healer.]

Mamoru Chiba | Sailor Moon
A: Marsh Malice: drowned woman
➢ CW: drowning
[It hadn't taken long for Mamoru to actually follow the wisps. A little chaos back at home, but nothing too horrible. It's in his nature to try and help, after all. The journey has been alright so far. He's been good at keeping attention to everything that isn't any of the creatures around the airboat. The marshes may not be the most interesting sights, but they do offer enough to look at.
Though his attention immediately snaps when someone close by screams for help. A woman. In the water? Did someone fall in? It doesn't even cross his mind this might be one of the creatures fooling him at this very moment
He spots the woman and immediately reaches a hand towards her.]
Hang on! I'll hel--
[In the split second he realized he made a mistake he's already being pulled into the water and under, the grin, sharp teeth and hollow eyes burning deep into his memory.
After the momentary shock, he starts swimming back towards the surface but he finds that he's unable to proceed. He realizes that the woman must be using water to pull him even further down. The panic starts to settle in as he feels the need for air rising. He tries using light magic to fight the creature off the best he can, but it doesn't seem to be doing much difference.
He's definitely in trouble if he doesn't get to surface soon.]
B: Marsh Malous: penguin
[After the incident on the airboat Mamoru is less enthusiastic to explore the village, but he does still try to be of help anyway. Unfortunately he ended up a little lost and ran into an animal mage who turned him into none other than a fancy emperor penguin. Somehow, he managed to then find his way back to where there are more people and is now waddling through the roads as a penguin, looking for someone he knows or just anyone who might be able to help.]
C: Wildcard

But that also means she's actually more focused on everything that happens around her.
Like, you know, the sound of a familiar voice, and then followed up by the sound of someone falling in the water.
It's hard to strike a balance between being careful here to not get dragged in herself and yet actually reacting to Mamoru being in danger here, but Minako is doing her bet, moving to the side so she's near the water, but trying to not look at it in case there's something waiting right there to look back at her. ]

Before a hand clamps down on his wrist and he comes face to face with another set of very sharp teeth, though this one appears to grin and laugh at him before pulling him upwards quickly towards the surface of the water, well able to swim faster than some silly human stuck with legs. Just as it gets within view, Floyd seems to realize that someone is still playing tricks on them, releasing his hold on Mamoru's wrist before turning and darting back at high speed towards the woman. It's quick, done with the grace of a being who is clearly used to living in water, before she is wrapped up in the near strangling grip of Floyd's long tail, it all hopefully enough for her magic to drop on Mamoru so he can get a breath of air into those lungs again.]

[ Aigis took the warning to not look at anything in the waters very seriously, and has thus remained diligent in keeping her eyes away from the waters. She cannot, however, ignore when she detects someone being dragged into the water. She immediately jumps into action, landing nearby. ]
Kh...!
[ She can't use her bullets from a distance, she'll end up hitting Mamoru. There's also the issue of her limited supply... but she doesn't pay that much mind when a life is in danger.
So, seeing as how air is not as much of a requirement for her as it is for Mamoru, she jumps in.
Mamoru will feel mechanical arms wrap around him from behind, one hooking him from under the arm, while the other also goes under his arm, but instead stretches outward with her fingers pointing at the area in front of Mamoru... where she can see the "woman" that pulled Mamoru under, albeit only slightly due to the nature of the marsh water.
But she can see well enough, so with Mamoru now safely behind the crossfire from her arm, rapid gunfire will suddenly ring out underwater from her outstretched fingers. She's not sure how effective her bullets will be on this creature, especially when firing underwater, but there's only one way to find out. ]

Rei Amayado | Hypnosis Mic
Marsh Malous
A. mushrooms? more like muuuhhhhh no thanks
[Wow, getting to this freaking village was a doozy and a half. After a year and some change Rei feels like he's getting the hang of Avalon and all its wackiness, but they still throw you some curveballs sometimes. At least his sunglasses made it easier to avoid eye contact with monsters.But.... All that, just to end up in freaking mushroom city!??! And with hardly a normal meal to be found. Rei is kind of used to that being the case when it comes to fey, but in this particular scenario....]
Aren't you lucky, young man.
[A Malous grandma is hovering over Rei as he sits at a campfire cleaning fish. In her arms is a rotted wooden log, dotted with mushrooms similar to those decorating her very person.] Shiitake are best fresh, in my opinion.
Yeah, well...
[Rei is barely managing to control his facial expression. It turns out that when it comes to mushrooms, this old man...... is picky.]
B. haha what if you had to kiss me. just kidding... unless? cw: snakes
[Getting back from Malous is proving to be just as annoying as traveling there, or possibly worse. What the fuck are these reed people's problem?! Who turns you into an animal right after saying hello?!?!?Rei Amayado, six-foot-something con artist, is now a little, tiny, adorable milk snake. He's not even the similar-looking venomous version, damn it!!!]
At least they were nice enough to say the cure, I guess. [Can other people even understand him like this?? Did they fix that part of animal magic as part of the curse???? God, he can barely see anything down here. Gotta find a tree branch or something to get at eye level.] --Hey, you. 'Scuse me.
[You can find Snake Rei (snei?) in the city of Malous as he looks for another otherworlder to give him a smooch and get his human body back... or you can find him at Phoenix Roost or at home, having gotten his familiar Princess to fly him back to Camelot in her talons (lollllll).]
wildcard
(If you want Rei in your boat for any of the marsh monsters, or any other scenario (or need to tweak one of the above prompts), im totally up for it! you can PM me to chat or just go for it haha)smooches for snei
Before Rosho can ask however he catches sight of some strange bright coloring also on the couch. It almost looks like a string or some rope. Actually, doesn't he recognize those colors from something? With all those documentaries Rosho likes to shove into his brain he has enough smarts to come to realize that is definitely not a colorful rope.
That is a snake.
There is a random snake in the house. Oh god, is it even alive? Did Princess bring a dead snake into the house to eat? He thought only cats did that sort of thing! Rosho yells at Princess immediately. ]

questionable sequel to snakes on a plane: snake in a theater
He's just going to check over his stock of garden supplies before he goes. Might as well, right? He owns a garden shop, so if he's missing anything he can take what he needs from his own inventory.
It's as he's doing this, looking over the condition of some gardening spades, that he notices movement out of the corner of his eye. But that's strange. It's so low to the ground... and red?
- Oh. It's a snake. That... sorta explains things? Maybe? He guesses? But also why is there a snake here?????????? ] Um... Are you lost? [ he asks, as though he could possibly understand a snake. (he can't. he's the wrong gay for this.) ]

Della Duck | Ducktales 2017
[ Don't make eye-contact? Easy peasy - she takes her scarf and wraps it around her head so it covers her eyes. But there's not enough for her partner to do the same, so she's going to help out with her voice to make sure they don't get distracted by anything in the water! ]
I can't control your eyes, but I can control your attention! So unless you've got another idea, I'm going to start singing some really loud, annoying songs.
Personally I'm a fan of "the song that never ends", but "100 bottles of pep on the wall" is a close second. Or we can go with "Wheels on the plane" if you prefer. You ready?
Marsh Malous
[ So, she's been turned into a duck. Like, an actual duck duck. Boy, wasn't that clever.
Still, it's not every day you spot a duck with a metal leg, so that may tip you off this isn't part of the natural wildlife. It also may tip you off because it keeps biting people's ankles, desperately trying to find someone to change her back. So, sorry if your ankle gets chomped, but hey, desperate times and all that jazz. ]

Noah LeClair | Original
[ Noah hasn't quite learned his lesson when it came to dealing the strange and fantastical things and creatures to be found in this place. The arrival of the wisps were met with the same way one might treat unwelcomed guests, told to shut up and get out or else he'll call the police. You can imagine just how well that worked out for him.
Thirty minutes later, just as he stepped out of his apartment building, a pair of wisps possessed his boots which have sprouted eyes and were walking him in any and all directions. Big exagerated strides was the name of the game as Noah swore while being flung forward and back until the dirt on the ground was on his - well, everything. ]
Alright! You listen here you lightbulb bastards! You let me boots go right now before I - AHHHHHH!
[ And now the wisps have completely forgone walking all together and were now just taking him wherever they wanted, upright or not. Someone help him before they walk him up a wall or something. ]
B - March Malous - Curiosity
[ The new locale was, admitedly, worth the trip for him. It's new, exciting, and even with the warnings of not looking at the water - Noah couldn't help but feel the beat of his heart in his chest. Maybe there was some kind of rhyme or reason to these strange occurance. But enough of his adventurers's soul being stirred, there was something that needed doing, and while he's unsure he's right one for the job - he was already there. ]
Blimey, that's something, innit?
[ Says the silver head as he walked through the village and admiring the way they've built their lives in this place. Sure he had a job to do, but he can't stop his curiosity anymore. He wanted to know more, to understand, and learn. He was the first and so far, only person from his home to see this place. It was here lost in his thoughts where he literally bumps into you. ]
Oh gods! Sorry there, torch. My bad. I wasn't payin' attention, are you alright?
C - March Malous - The Cat
[ These marshes were clearly home to a strange array of creatures. Dangerous, macabre, ghostly, and in their own way - magnificent creatures, but none of which were stranger than a snow white cat in the deep of the marsh. The poor creature is clearly distressed with how occasionally meowls for attention, or a bath given how its fur is dirty from trecking through the marsh.
To top it all off, the furry and damp creature is walking a little strange. Instead of the measured and elegant gait cats are known for, this one is slow - one paw in front of the other - as if walking were a new skill for this full grown cat. It had no problem climbing things though. ]

[Garnet is just an innocent witness to this, but she'd been in the midst of tracking down a wisp who has taken control of a frying pan and is floating it away from her. She appears to have been using the frying pan, too, because it's covered in oil. Noah, however, offers a distraction, though no less embarrassing of one.]
Maybe it'd be best to just follow them, if they're so adamant to take us somewhere?

It was certainly better to eat fish than the mushrooms offered around. Ugh.
Floyd's able to catch that movement out of the corner of his eye just as it happens, a hand shooting out to grab at Mogget racing into scene, and just barely missing grabbing him by a hair as he darts off with Floyd's latest catch.]
Heeeyy!! [Don't think you're getting away that easy, little thief, Floyd instantly on his feet and racing after Mogget at full speed.]
(OOC: Floyd normally calls people by a water related nickname rather than their real names, and I was thinking considering this prompt that suckermouth catfish might work well for Mogget, as a joke about him stealing. They also can be breed to be a rather lovely light colour to work with Mogget's white fur. Would this work for you or rather something else?)

So, while he avoided the jobs that typically had someone fixing a roof and such because he did not want to be responsible for messing that up, he did help with the cleaning and other minor home fixes. He ended up partnered with this young man named Red Wine and they seemed amiable enough.
It ended up being a bit of a surprise when he was invited for a drink. He tilted his head at the man, taking water bottle as they sat for a break.]
Sure, I suppose. As long as they serve non-alcoholic stuff too.
[He wasn't sure he could get away with underage drinking around here, although he had no idea if the laws were different here like back home. It was 20 in Japan, but that varied depending on the country.
Either way, it sounded nice after a long day of work. He was getting hungry too.]

Alfonse Baelsar | FFXIV | OTA
[Alfonse had taken to help load the boats with supplies as the excursion was about to start off. Whether he’s getting help or someone is watching the chaos unfold, a metallic chittering sound announces the presence of trouble. Alfonse immediately winced and let out a very quiet “Oh no” just as his familiar had decided to invite itself into the boat… by manifesting itself above and dropping down into it. The sudden lurching sent Alfonse tumbling off the edge, and possibly others on the boat should there be any. As quickly as it appeared, it dissipated, the odd chittering sound it made lingering some moments after it faded.
Alfonse meanwhile just stood in the waist deep swamp, looking wet, miserable, and utterly resigned to this fate.]
I’m… really sorry about that.
II. Go Fish
[Alfonse could be found in various places around the swamp, catching fish as well as preparing them to share with those that might need. He was efficient and organized as he made the little packs of rations, and while the fish wasn’t the best tasting... well, what were you expecting from swamp fish?
Of course, his familiar had different plans in terms of “helping out”, and whatever reason someone had approached Alfonse, the familiar decided to show everyone that it’s living is best gargoyle life by regurgitating water at their feet. Where the water was coming from was anyone’s guess, but there was a nice steady stream of stagnant swamp water pouring from its mouth. Alfonse’s expression betrayed none of the complete and utter revulsion and contempt he felt towards his familiar. ]
That’s disgusting. You are disgusting.
[The gargoyle’s only response is to interrupt the streaming of water to burp up a dead fish at his feet. ]
