EVENT ✨ What is Camelot without a Tournament?

QUICK NAV: LOGS ⚔️️ NETWORK ⚔️️ MEMES ⚔️️ OOC ⚔️️ NAVIGATION

This is the event log for IC comments only! Ask OOC questions in response to this comment HERE or access the FAQ for general game questions. Click here to view top-level comments only.

Trumpets blow loudly to introduce the start of the tournament day. Everyone is invited to watch or participate. Those who would like to sign up need simply sign in for the competition they seek to join in on. Sign ups open at 8am, though you can sign up any time before the start of your competition category. There are different prizes listed for each category!

In the sign-up area before the tournaments begin, there will be a number of entertainment shows going on: Some of the fae who were invited are giving enchanted body paintings. Once the painting is finished, they will travel across your body like a living tattoo. Please be sure to specify if you would like it to be permanent or temporary, and exactly what you want-- especially if you want a permanent one.

In addition to the body painting, there will be a number of clowns playing pranks and giving out balloons that, when popped, completely cover the surrounding 5 feet in glow-in-the-dark glitter that smells of your favorite scent. Each one will smell different depending on who is smelling it. What's more is the glitter actually dissolves after 12 hours, so you don't have to worry about it never getting out of anything. Amazing!

There are additional dance shows and parades going on through the town and near the sign-up area to draw people in, and little pop-up shops with merch you can buy to support the tournament-- cool t-shirts, sunglasses, hats, keychains, and more. Don't forget to download the Tournament Bets app so you can place money on your favorites to win and make bank! Maybe save some for the tavern afterward if things don't work out, though... or before you make any decisions, check out the castles' royal tea garden, beautifully decorated in a wide variety of wintery florals, which is set up and serving a delightful medley of teas with soothing effects. Just be careful-- each table has a magic grapevine that will communicate with another table, so you may end up hearing someone else's secrets on the grapevine... or just ending up with a fun conversation if you notice it before you say something you don't want to share.

As the tournament gets underway, it starts off with all of the multiview screens taking focus on the royal viewing box. In it stands a man that we have not yet seen before, but who stands with an air of dignity. He's wearing a suit, and a crown, and looks confident despite that he has many reasons to be hesitant- he is back from the dead, after all.

"My name is Arthur Pendragon, King of Camelot. Many of you may have heard of me from your worlds I'm told, and many still may not have, but I will begin with an apology. I should have been there for those of you who arrived months ago and have been bravely pursuing this battle without leadership. I am afraid a few millennia of culture shock have thrown me off course and the Advent of the Kardashians in my studies has not helped these matters. But that is little excuse. From here on out, I will be with you in your journeys. Those who have questions of me, I will be offering an..."

Merlin's voice comes in off-camera to help him out, since he's still not sure on all the lingo, offering "AMA" to assist, then Arthur continues.

"An AMA to you all in the coming days. But for the time being, let us celebrate the wins and strides you all have made with a tournament. Those brave enough to enter, I hope to see you vying for knighthood and fighting alongside me in the days to come. For the love of Camelot!"
The video ends and the first tournament event begins. The categories and prizes are as follows:
Close-Quarters Melee (No Magic): Any non-projectile weapon is allowed. All combatants meet on a sand lot surrounded by stands. The last combatant standing wins. Prize: 500,000G; (Item) Enchanted Sword, courtesy of the royal blacksmith and permanently enchanted by Merlin (Winner can choose what kind of effect they want upon contact with blade! IC choice, but must be approved by mods)

Physical Healing: All physical wounds will be divided among healers. Participation in this event will yield monetary payment of 10,000G per person regardless of win, as it is an essential service. The first person to complete their patient load will win the competition. Prize: 50,000G; (Recipe) Protective Charm

Long-Range Firing Competition: Archers, gunsmen, slingshot, or any other projectile-firing weapons or magic may be used for precision aiming at long-distance targets, both still and moving. It is not permitted to fire at other competitors, but distracting, blocking, and otherwise creating interference with curses, shields, and so on is permitted. Causing injury to other competitors will result in disqualification. Prize: 50,000G; (Item) Locked-and-Loading Projectile Purse

Lunch: Lunch break! There are plenty of food stands available for anyone to purchase whatever food their heart desires, but for the competitive lot, there is a hot dog eating contest to participate in or enjoy. Let the ref know if you would prefer vegan hot dogs, as they are available. Prize: 20,000K; (Recipe) Instant Loperamide

Animal & Hypnotic Obstacle Course: This one is for the animal and cognitive users. Use animal magic to direct a blindfolded animal or hypnotized peer through an obstacle course. Whichever team finishes the course first is the winner. (No one will question whether or not the hypnotized participant is there willingly, but make sure you discuss OOC.) Prize: 50,000G; (Recipe) Enchanted Gold Rose

Dark & Light Submission: Dark magic users will be given instructions to utilize shadow magic to essentially swallow their light opponent into a vat of darkness and pull them into pitch-black dungeons underground. Light magic users are to utilize their light magic to overwhelm the shadows and prevent themselves from being pulled under. Light magic users are given intsructions to create hardlight bindings to stop their dark magic opponents from controlling the shadows. Whoever secures their opponent first wins. (Multiple winners.) Prize: 10,000G; (Potion) Countercurse

Alchemy & Kinetic Animated Battles: An alchemist and a kinetic user pair up to alchemize a warrior of their choosing. It can be made of any material you like-- stone, straw, brick, mud, steel, whatever, but it must be made to be mobile and armed as you please, as kinetic users will then be tasked with animating various parts of the body and fighting the alchemists's creations against each other. Prize: 50,000G to each member of the winning team; (Potion) Animatia

Single Element Knock-Out: Elemental magic users may select one element to fight with. Each magic user is given their own platform in a pool. The goal is to knock your opponents into the water. Note: The water of the pool is not usable in the competition; using the pool will result in disqualification. You can jump from platform to platform to avoid hits but leaving the pool area will result in disqualification. Prize: 50,000G; (Recipe) Glowstick

Magical Melee: Like the close-quarters free-for-all, any magic type may join in. All combatants meet on a sand lot surrounded by stands. The last mage standing wins. Prize: 500,000G; (Item) Channeling Staff

Anyone who participates will get the following: A big thank you, a free meal ticket redeemable at any food stand during lunch, and (Recipe) Cool Firework.
Reminder that players who want their character to win should sign up on the plotting post here. You can thread anything out on the log. Please sign up before 11:59pm on Friday 1/22. Results will be drawn live if we can figure out an easy way to do that and posted on Saturday.

['Old man?' Regis can't help but frown somewhat.

It seems that most of his opponents like to reference his age the first chance they get. It's a little frustrating, to say the least, but Regis simply smiles as he summons forth his magic. As he begins to cast, Tonitrus lets out a screech and takes to the air. The creature knows better than to be within Regis's crosshairs right now.
]

May the victor win the spoils.

[In a flash of light, several large chunks of ice are hurdled towards the youth in dazzling array. The icicles are as large as daggers and twice as sharp. Regis keeps summoning them all around them in hopes of trapping the teen within a makeshift icy prison. Tonitrus in turn mimics the same action by summoning another volley of icicles towards the youth in hopes of skewering him before he could retaliate. Let's just say the pesky serpent doesn't intend to fight fair.]

[Gokudera is a very rude young man, definitely not an adult, and not looking like he’s prepared for the kind of fight Regis is bringing.

The familiar is intimidating, but Gokudera is glad it flies up. He’ll have to keep an eye on it as he works his own magic, staying perfectly still save for a half step back.

There are indents in the sand all around him and it shifts, leveling out to conceal his footprints as he leaves a crouching illusion of himself within the cage of ice spears. Gokudera’s careful to get out of the way, to watch and stay hidden in the hopes that Regis will exhaust some magical energy and realize that the boy he’s caging is just a trick of the eye.]

[Keeping an eye on Tonitrus might be the youth's best bet against Regis. Especially since the fiend will only cast its magic shortly after Regis does in this form of mimicry. Even though it's highly attuned to lightning magic, the creature can attune with any elemental spells that Regis casts. However, the youth might notice that the spells Tonitrus casts are a little weaker in comparison.

That is as long they're not lightning/electrical based spells.

It takes Regis a moment to realize that the boy within that icy prison is only a mere illusion. If it hadn't been for the faint indentations within the sand, he would've ever noticed. That and the fact one of the icicles managed to go right through the illusion, causing it to flicker slightly. Unable to tell where the youth went, Regis switches elements with just the snap of his fingers.

Without warning little purple orbs of light start to dot the arena as the icicles suddenly shatter like glass. Each orb possesses a powerful enough electrical charge to stun but not kill. Even though this a battle of magical might, it's not Regis's intention to harm anyone outside of the expected scrapes and bruises. After all, there's plenty of healers present here.

[Gokudera’s very quiet. While he may be able to hide visibly, if he ventures close to any of those orbs, he gets a feeling his exact location will be given away. He strokes the flat of his hand over the sand, and the imprint grows, expanding beneath both of them as if he were controlling it. Sand seems to surge up and swallow those orbs, when really they’re just bubbles, barriers around the balls closest to him. He’s not sure how to attack Regis without giving himself away, so he’s using his own familiar’s ability to cloak itself and him in order to throw off his location.

An eyeball blinks in the sand that belongs to his familiar, and then an obvious bubble expands before Regis, a distraction so that Gokudera can create another bubble around himself and bludgeon his opponent by charging into him from behind. It’s not very strong, but is more to utilize the element of surprise. All around them, the bubbles containing those electric orbs just drift together, cling to one another and form one giant orb, directing Regis’s magic away from them so Gokudera won’t knock into one. But... he could try and knock his opponent into his own elemental offense.]
lucere: (♕ A stern resolve)

[personal profile] lucere 2021-01-22 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Even though the youth seems unable to match Regis in terms of power, his stealthy strategy leaves the old king at a loss here. Regis keeps his eyes peeled for the boy, his gaze focusing on the shadows within the sand. If the teen walks too close to those electrical orbs, he'll most-likely cast a shadow. That's why Regis is so focused on the shifting sands before him as he walks towards the center of the arena. He trusts that Tonitrus is doing the same since the beast is airborne.

However, Regis soon finds himself at a grave disadvantage once the sand itself suddenly morphs. A frustrated grumble escapes Regis once he realizes his opponent's plan. As the lightning orbs snared within those bubbles are suddenly snuffed out. Regis was about to switch elements again when something or rather someone suddenly charges at him. He manages to dodge the youth but barely. After participating in two tournaments earlier, Regis's movements are a bit sluggish.
]

How clever of you. I didn't think you would be fighting by using stealth.

[He comments before suddenly allowing for the remaining lightning orbs to burst. Each one of them explodes in unison scattering powerful bolts of electricity everywhere. In turn, Tonitrus's cerulean gaze starts to glow amethyst as it summons forth additional bolts of lighting towards the arena blow.]
bakudan_bambino: (Jesus. He brought a six-shooter)

[personal profile] bakudan_bambino 2021-01-22 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Gokudera doesn’t have much of an offensive plan. Honestly, in most of his training with other people, the majority of his opponents have had elemental magic. He’s had to use his light magic to contain literal explosives and shield against a kick that should have killed him. This is more a test of his abilities, how to apply his light magic in ways he can’t anticipate.]

You’re the first I’ve fought to use electricity!

[Gokudera watches, bubbles rising out out of seemingly nowhere and being popped over and over by the electricity littering the area. One manages to hit him, but then he’s swinging a hand and a wall of light to knock it as one would a tennis ball, aiming for Regis, crouching and holding the stunning injury.

The sand surges up beneath them like a wave, and something is clearly swimming beneath it, circling Regis and occasionally giving hints of calloused skin that may be scaled as it dives under. Gokudera knows the sand is not deep enough to accommodate his familiar, but the strange creature has a way of hiding, of seeming like it could be anything but what it is. It makes for uneven footing, swirls dunes up and striking sand between them to help hide the boy. With the large piles of sand, he could be hiding in any one, giving himself time to recover some energy and allowing his familiar to play with Regis by manipulating the field, or making it seem like it’s changed more than it has.

If Regis steps forward, he’ll notice that light energy ripples from each footfall, and the more light around him, the more it will react and swell. So long as there is no shadow over him.]

[personal profile] lucere 2021-01-22 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
[If it hadn't been for some of the training sessions he did with Noctis, he wouldn't have figured out what to do here. Light magic is a very peculiar practice, almost as peculiar as alchemy. It's difficult for an elementalist to defend themselves against a proficient light magic user but not impossible. However, he finds it strange that other magic users haven't wielded lightning magic until now. Maybe the other mages aren't too keen about using electricity in combat. Whatever the reason, Regis is proud that he can give his opponent a run for his money.

As that orb of light comes hurling at him, Regis raises his hand and summons forth several shards of ice before him like last time. The ice acts as a makeshift shield against the lightning orb but the friction between raw electricity and water causes the ice wall he crafted to exploded in white frost knocking him right off his feet.
]

N-Now that was a dreadful idea.

[He mumbles as he slowly rises. Perhaps using ice to defend himself against his own lightning spell was a bad idea. Nevertheless, the old king rises to his feet once the youth summons forth his familiar.

Fonitrus gives a warning squawk once it sees the familiar sink within the sand. The overgrown thunderbird suddenly swoops down onto the field with a snarl before Regis, as if willing to act as his shield. He gives the feathery serpent a quick pat on its head before summoning forth his next spell. Within a matter of seconds, the entire arena suddenly becomes engulfed in this hazy-like heat before suddenly red hot flames shoot up from the ground. Tonitrus follows suit by rearing its ugly head back and breathing fire onto the dunes in hopes of luring the boy out.

[Gokudera’s familiar has been on the field the entire time, and as with the Ogopogo, or the monster of Loch Ness, this Lariosauro isn’t keen to be seen. Whatever it is just appears to be something slithering and comfortable under the sand.

Thank goodness the sand piled up does well to contain the cool area around Gokudera. The only problem is how dark it is, and the boy is not allowed to use weapons in this fight.

That doesn’t mean he isn’t concealing weapons. Gokudera is known in his home-world for producing explosives, He’s wrapping himself in a barrier close to his skin to keep them from igniting from the fire. It’s his familiar’s time to step in. The boy is hiding within a bubble aided by the Lariosauro, who’s slowly somewhat revealed thanks to the sudden heat mirage Regis has created.

Larry the Lariosauro pops his head out of the sand, and it looks very much like a crude child’s drawing, its eyes too far apart and watery, and it bears a long mammalian snout littered with scales. It’s drawing attention away from Gokudera at least until the field is safe enough for him to come out without exploding. Regis may not be fighting to kill, but fire is probably the worst element the bomber boy has ever faced.

Bubbles bloom from Larry’s snout and they expand, one even sliding past Tonitrus to surround Regis. He’ll find it’s a nice temperature, if not a little humid, and the fire’s creating enough light that it seems to be encasing the man and his monsterous familiar in a protective barrier. Larry is trying to make sure that no one gets too hot, as it sits there, head the only visible part of it in the sand. There is no impatience, and the creature watches with a dumb look, blinking one eye, then the other.]

[Perhaps turning up the heat wasn't the best idea either judging from how stifling the air has become. It's suffocatingly hot but Regis doesn't cease. He's trying to metaphorically smoke the boy out of hiding but the sheer ferocity of this spell is a bit much for even him to handle. Beads of sweat dot Regis's brow as he increases the heat by two-fold even at his own detriment. Tonitrus hesitates to do the same since it can sense that Regis is pushing himself a bit too far. The feathered-serpent lets out a worried squawk as it turns towards Regis as if warning him.

It's then that Larry the Lariosauro makes its long overdue appearance. Tonitrus quickly zeroes in on the familiar, its cerulean gaze starting to glow with magic. The fiend was about to attack until one of the slippery bubbles float past it and towards Regis. Thankfully, this isn't an attack but rather fire prevention in the form of a protective bubble to keep Regis from harm. The old king couldn't help but chuckle.
]

Alright, alright. It seems your friend there is a bit worried.

[With just the snap of his fingers, the fires suddenly vanish along with the oppressive heat that follows. However, a powerful gust of wind quickly follows suit. The wind increases in tempo before suddenly forming into a powerful tornado aided on by the beating of Tonitrus's massive wings. It's nothing short of a miracle that Regis isn't blown of his feet by the wind gusts.]

[personal profile] bakudan_bambino 2021-01-22 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
[When the temperature shifts, Larry drops the shield he’d cast around Regis, then settles down flat, shifting his body side to side and coating himself in more sand. Gokudera’s having a hard time keeping his breath while he’s buried, so comes up, but has to maintain a shield around him in his own bubble-like barrier. It’s striking the sides thunderously loud and he’s trying to shift his focus and his magic to reinforce his barrier from all sides.

The way the sand hits stings even through the light, and blocks a great deal of it, scratching at his exposed arms and his eyes. Gokudera can only hold his shield up around him, all but cowering from the force of the sand beating him from too many directions.]

[Regis couldn't help but smirk the moment he sees the youth. He raises his right hand and signals Tonitrus to strike. The familiar turns its attention away from the center of the arena and towards the boy. It summons forth a powerful gust of wind with its massive wings, aiming right towards the king's young opponent.

While Regis's mastery over air magic is a bit limited, he can at least attempt to blow this boy right off his feet before switching to the next element. There's always a slight pause in between his elemental phases, one that could be capitalized upon if the youth can get closer. However, Tontirus is proving to be some trouble since it keeps beating its wings at the youth in hopes of summoning more gusts of wind.
]
bakudan_bambino: (no one would be surprised)

[personal profile] bakudan_bambino 2021-01-23 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Gokudera is crouched, trying to shield as much of himself from the stinging sands whipping around him as possible. His shield does little against those particles, and when he's knocked back, he's encased in a bubble.

Larry will get a little more involved if Regis' familiar is doing the same. There are more bubbles appearing in the field, the air magic helping to clear sand out and create an environment where light penetrates readily.

The boy is simply being rolled about in a ball, and it's taking much more impact than his body. Gokudera closes his eyes and takes some deep breaths, feeling the heat from the light warm him. So what if the wind is too strong for him to stand? The gusts don't sting like the sand.

Each flap of those massive wings blows the bubble up larger, like one would exhale into a wand of soapy water. Gokudera shuts his eyes and the surface of the bubble twists about, creating a mirrored reflection of Tonitrus and Regis. The boy is still on the field, but hiding behind a large mirror that the wind only facilitates.

Larry surfaces through the sand behind Regis and tips his head this way and that, enjoying the reflection as though they're in a large carnival fun-house.]

[Tonitrus lets out a hiss once the boy's familiar jumps into the fray again. The feathery-serpent turns its sights towards Larry and starts performing the same wind gust attack from earlier in hopes of blowing those magical bubbles out of the way. Unfortunately, Tonitrus constant wind gusts only aid to make the bubbles grow larger in size.

This earns a sigh of frustration from Regis as he quickly calls for the howling winds to cease. His familiar leaps down beside him with a confused growl once they suddenly find themselves staring at their reflection.
]

Another ploy, I see.

[Regis chuckles as he crosses his arms over his chest. Despite how fatigued he feels, the old king still has just enough stamina left to continue fighting. However, he will use this moment as a brief respite from this arduous battle.]

Clever. Once again, I'm humbled by how crafty you are.

[The second that Larry resurfaces, Tonitrus pivots around and lunges at the creature with its talons. Regis pays no heed to the vicious bird for now, clearly more intrigued with this bizarre form of magic before him.]

bakudan_bambino: (several important differences)

[personal profile] bakudan_bambino 2021-01-24 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gokudera still has a lot of work to do in creating illusions with light, but right now, he’s just trusting the building reflection Tonitrus is lending energy to.

He’s lowering his hands from the bubble he’d started, catching his breath and trying to anticipate what Regis’ next move might be. Through the bubble, he can’t see that Larry might be bothering his opponent. The Lariosauro isn’t aggressive like the monstrous familiar Regis has, is just more playful and tricky.

When Tonitrus lunges, Larry bursts into feathers, so it will seem that the powerful beast has chased its own body. Then, he’s slithering into the sand again, and where there are grains thrown up, for a moment, it seems to break the appearance of the giant bubble.

It’s not as physical so much as it is acting like a curtain of light. Gokudera is trying to pack his hands together, build a ball of light to throw and blind his opponent momentarily.]
lucere: (♕ A little bit of magic)

[personal profile] lucere 2021-01-24 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Once Larry suddenly transforms into a dozen or so feathers, Regis whistles for Tonitrus to heel. The wyrm-like fiend gives up the chase in favor of returning to its master's side. It kneels beside Regis and waits for the old king to climb onto its back. Whatever they're conspiring requires this dynamic duo to be airborne.]

This has been an enthralling battle but I regret to announce this must end.

[While there’s no time limit per se, each match is allotted for thirty or so minutes tops. Fifteen minutes have already passed since the beginning of this match and the spectators are waiting for a thrilling finale.

While Regis feels the need to err on the side of caution, he still has one more ace up his sleeve. He places his hands on the back of Tonitrus’s neck and signals for the beast to take flight. Once airborne, Regis starts to channel his mana into his familiar causing the quetzalcoatl to glow with a bright blue aura. Little sparks of electricity gather all around the arena as Regis keeps siphoning more of his magic into Tonitrus.

This doesn't bold well, especially since the monster's eyes are starting to glow brightly.

Larry, what’s he doing?

[Gokudera asks, though his familiar is nowhere to be seen. He can feel the creature’s presence, and can’t hear very well. If Regis has said anything, Gokudera’s unable to hear it.

He takes a few steps back, but the bubble he’s encased in holds and keeps him just as blind to everything outside it as it would keep Regis blind to everything inside of it. He can’t hide, though, and just has to keep the shield up, lending all of his magical energy into maintaining it.]
lucere: (♕ Conjuring the Light)

[personal profile] lucere 2021-01-26 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Just when it seemed that the boy would have more than enough time to craft that ball of light, Regis finishes siphoning his magic into his familiar. Thunder clashes within the distance as Tonitrus lets out a ferocious howl before unleashing a volley of lightning bolts down into the arena. The first strike hits outside of the bubble but the second and third strike it with deadly precision.

The Quetzalcoatl keeps unleashing lightning bolt after lightning bolt in fierce succession, each time striking the bubble over and over again with every intent on bursting it. The electrical discharge alone makes the air heavy with static as several little beads of electricity start to dot the arena. Tonitrus keeps up with the electrical barrage for a minute or so, fully intending to keep casting until its power is completely spent.

However, Tonitrus pauses briefly as it summoned the last lightning bolt. The fiend rears its head back and stretches out its wings wide to summon forth another bolt of lighting twice as powerful as the ones prior. Regis had the Stormsender in mind when he taught his familiar this move. A bright flash blinds the arena followed by a deafening boom as the last lightning bolt strikes the bubble leaving little fiery embers within its wake.

The thunderbird suddenly swoops down to the ground as it awaits for the smoke to clear. While Regis thinks victory might be his, it's a little too early to tell.

bakudan_bambino: (it's okay to say)

[personal profile] bakudan_bambino 2021-01-26 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Gokudera is pushing his magic into the bubble, immediately concentrating on the areas that the lightning strikes to repair and reinforce. It's a continuous effort, draining him and he's not going to let a single bolt hit him. In all honesty, he's terrified of what that would feel like, and if that would be his end. This is no life-or-death battle, but with a monster sending lightning bolts right at him, he's keeping his shield up as well as he can.

And there's no reason for it to be weakened. Tonitrus casts shadow, but it is not as strong as the light around his sillhoutte in the sky. Gokudera's invisible to the crowds watching this battle, and it seems that the shield is absorbing the beams, the beads of electricity acting as much their own trap if the boy were to move.

When the thunderbird lands, the ground seems to quake beneath Gokudera, and he drops his shield, feeling safe and hidden amongst the smoke. Unfortunately, it's the last thing he sees as he slumps over, completely drained from his stubborn defense. Larry rises up from the sand to cover him, clamps a large wet mouth over his arm, then drops it to make sure the boy is out like a light, then slaps a webbed paw on the ground.

One!

Two!

Three!

Gokudera does not get up. Larry makes an odd gargling noise, then rests to watch on in case the healers need to rush in. The odd creature rolls about, belly pale and as much a white flag as it is capable of.]
