[ Hayate immediately trotted the few steps over, happily pressing his head to hand. The woman kept her eyes on the fire as she thought about it — information in Elphame can be dangerous, after all — before nodding. ]

Green magic was easy to discover when the snow came in. [ The whole empathy to plants thing. ] Light magic took some more time.

[ A beat before inquiring. ] How about you, do you know both of yours?

[Keith nodded as well as he moved his hand around to give the pup a good petting.]

I actually arrived in Avalon before we had secondary magic. It was weird waking up and suddenly being able to talk to animals.

[Yeah, he knew they had to be careful, but magic types were pretty generic in his mind. A lot of people had similar combos.]

So, if there's anything you want to know from your friend here, I can probably ask for you.

[ She chuckled, a light-hearted sound. ]

I couldn't imagine. Well, perhaps I could. [ She thinks minutely of feeling sleepy being close to a plant that had slumbered for the winter. It's a strange sensation, you never think of plants having their own thoughts until it's presented to you.

She glanced at Hayate who turned his head towards her. A happy thump of his tail and a wry smile. ]

While I'm sure being able to talk would make things easier sometimes, I think we manage to get along well now.

Some relationships don't need to be changed — what do you think?

[He shrugged slightly.]

It's definitely interesting being able to talk to -- my wolf. [He had to stop himself from referring to Kosmo by name.] We always had kind of a deep connection, but this definitely a new level.

[And, yeah... Keith chuckled, too.]

But, I can see that I guess. If you're happy with what you have, why change it? [Keith didn't really have a lot of relationships in his life that hadn't changed in some way, though. Everything changed at some point.]

[ She nods, thinking about it. Riza can't imagine the kind of conversations she and Hayate might have. Right now, they understood each other well with a seeming language barrier. ]

I'm sure it's proven useful as well. Animals see and hear more than humans do.

[ Something she knew for a fact when it came to hommunculi. She smiles wryly: ] So long as I don't wake up tomorrow and find myself able to speak to animals as well.

[ Light teasing. ]

[Keith chuckled slightly.] Well, that is kind of how it happened. Birds woke me up that morning with their overly amorous flirting.

[He shook his head.]

I didn't think birds talked like that.

No? Have you not listen to their songs in the early morning before, then?

[ Her response is light, mild: ] No one sings so lightly and energetically that early without meaning behind hit.

Well, no... but I never knew what that meaning was. [Keith shrugged.] Animals make noises all the time. [Keith just... wasn't a bird guy.]
