Though it's been a year for us OOC, that timeline isn't necessarily something everyone thinks to celebrate, especially in the midst of all that's going on. What they are thinking about are more solutions to the food rationing for two very key reasons: 1. the winter solstice will be spent in Elphame next month, and food from the fae lands cannot be consumed by non-fae or there are very terrible side-effects, the details of which seem ominously vague. 2. winter is coming and with a lot more mouths to feed, the usual preparations likely weren't enough for everyone to remain healthy and happy. This has lead a cadre of likeminded mages to gather together and perform a ritual at Merlin's Step (past info here) to temper the rains and extend the harvest season a couple of weeks to reduce crop loss. Unfortunately, the magic flu is still at large, and someone thought they were above it all and attended the ritual, which has made things go... awry.

Winter was coming.. and now it's here. Right now. The ritual has gone south thanks to the magical flu and a snowstorm has rocked Camelot overnight. There's about 6 feet deep of snow so those on the first floor of their buildings may have some trouble getting out. The snow stays heavy throughout the day, and around sunset the power goes out in Camelot. Anyone who can is sharing a magical spell from olden days before electricity, (Spell) Candlebloom. Candlebloom can be cast by putting out a plate, bowl or anything and chanting the spell over it until a flower-shaped piece of wax begins to grow upward out of the surface.
Keep chanting, the petals will bloom, and then "melt" down to form the sides of a candle and fill in with wax. You can cast this on as many dishes as you have to create multiple light sources! They don't self-light though, so good luck! Thankfully, living so close to the storm sprites up in the Ash Mountains has given Lestari's people ample knowledge about how to deal with sudden weather and living buried under plenty of stuff. They've got a special spell to dig tunnels under the deepening snow, so you may find yourself able to get to and from different locations through snow tunnels.. if you have a little bravery and faith to travel through them. It's kind of reminiscent of crawling through the tunnels of a fast food PlayPlace as a kid, especially since at the end of one of the tunnels, all of that missing snow is piled up in enchanted balls of snow that create a large (snow) ballpit, the magic keeping the snows bunched up into balls unless they are explicitly thrown (then they turn back to normal snowballs and will burst on contact).
	Within the next days, the snowstorm evens out to alternating between snow and rain in the final weeks of the month. The Elphame Traders arrive in Camelot early, having rushed their journey and skipped a few of their usual stops on orders of the Fairy Queen to bring a special item for free distribution to all of the otherworlders in Camelot. Delivered to everyone is what appears to be a totem, woven together with a variety of dried plants pulled into wings held together with twine. At the end, a fragment of moldavite smaller than half your pinky nail. With it, a small half-inch wide scroll of paper that simply says: "The Fairy Queen permits you safe travel to the Land of Maidens. Burn in December. We will bring the newcomers to us."
The totems are enchanted to be unburnable before December starts, so if your character tries, they will find themselves very frustrated and likely catching whatever is next to the totem on fire (including their own hand if they're foolish enough not to follow directions). The totem will only work once and does not include a recipe or a totem back to Camelot, so make sure you find someone who has one or you'll find yourself on the scenic route back.   The Elphame Traders plan to stick around the last two weeks of December to make sure everyone receives their Land of Maidens Totem. During this time, they have a "Sorry You've Been Stuck for a Year and Thanks!" Sale with some very intriguing free samples. Their new flavor of their hottie sauce that causes illusions of flowers and sparkles to form around your head when someone gazes upon you for the first time is a hot item! Try the Wuh-Woh Wrench, a small alan wrench that causes a non-fatal accident within earshot when you drop it. They really seem to be trying to get rid of the Snek Tunics, which just appear to be shirts with pictures of a cartoon snake on them. There are no disclaimers that when you get water on you in this, you turn into a Naga until you are able to completely dry. There's also a special free (Spell) Cool Firework donated by Merlin to help you celebrate, or commiserate-- with this spell, you can shoot rocket fireworks out of your fingers into the sky!

[1] Snowball Pit

[ Nobody expected 6 feet of snow this early, or at all, but fortunately for Eri... she's been given a nice and warm puffy snow jacket in advance, along with a scarf, earmuffs, gloves, and boots! She looks adorable, frankly. So, after suiting up and heading out into the snow tunnels (because why wouldn't she? It's a winding network of tunnels! That's the best thing in the world!), she is quick to find what is—in her opinion—the best take on a wintery ball pit.

A snowball pit.

Not that it would've worked back home, but we have magic here, so she's not worrying about it. ]

Uwaaaaah!!

[ The tunnel Eri's coming from has a bit of elevation, which is perfect, because it allows herself to launch herself into the snowball pit with a big jump! After making sure nobody is below her, that is. She knows better!

Still, you may still be close enough to see the small white-haired girl jump and vanish into the balls of snow. ]

[2] Oh god she's lost

[ Ahh! The snowball pit was a lot of fun! Definitely cold, though, even with all her winter gear. She's pretty sure snow managed to get in any small crevice it could find... in her sleeves, down her jacket, in her boots, etc.

But it didn't matter! Even if her cheeks and nose were bright red from the cold, she'd just head back home and warm up there!

...which direction is home?

All of the time she spent in the snowball pit ended up getting her sense of direction messed up. She thought she was going the right way, but... this doesn't feel right, and it certainly doesn't help that the tunnels look mostly the same no matter where she goes. ]

Ah...

[ She... she knew where to go before! She just doesn't know the directions when everything is a tunnel!

After reaching another door that isn't one she recognizes, she sits down in a larger opening in the tunnels, tears starting to well up. ]

Uuh...

[ She's... lost.

She thought she was finally doing things well on her own and then she messes up like this...

It's not as cold as it likely is outside because of the snowstorm, but it's still cold in these snow tunnels. She curls up against the wall of snow and sniffles, tears running down her cheeks as she uses her gloves to wipe her nose.

This isn't great. ]

[3] Cool Fireworks

[ Eri isn't sure about some of the things the Elphame Traders have... she's apprehensive of the sauce they're handing out, she's not interested in the wrench (and too careful to drop it anyway), and she can't find any of the Snek Tunics in her size. Besides, it's not like she can buy anything anyway.

The free firework spell, however, intrigues her. ]

[ Apparently it lets you shoot fireworks out of your fingers... reading the instructions, she points her hand out in front of her and... ]

Wah...!?

[ ...accidentally fires off the spell when she wasn't ready. It's still aimed up at an angle, but that still means it's likely flying right over your head before it bursts into a small little firework. She needs a bit more practice with the spell, clearly.

At the moment, though, it surprised her so much when it shot out of her fingers that she fell backward, shaking a bit from the surprise. ]

A-Aah...

[ She also saw how close she came to accidentally hitting you, so...

She feels bad about that. ]

[ Della was really curious about where the tunnels could go, so she was pretty much exploring instead of having any set destination. When she hears a jubilant cry, her curiosity is instantly distracted, and she heads in that direction!

And so, she sees... a giant ball pit made of snow. ]

... Best snow day ever! Wow! This looks like so much fun! ... Could've sworn I heard someone, though.

Candlebloom Lights
(With the power in this sort of weather, it looks like he’ll be stuck in the cafe for a while now. Harry is among the cafe baristas who’re in the late afternoon/early night shift at Helleste Cafe, manning the cashier and getting customer orders, when the snowstorm hit, blocking the entrance/exit points in a blanket of snow and cutting off most of the electricity. So understandably, there is panic among some of the guests and staff when that happened, although he is too shocked by the suddenness of the power outage and he tries to figure what happened as he was pretty focused with his barista duties at the time of the outage. A co-worker had to tell him about this for him to realize what happened occurred and he apologized for not thinking fast enough, which they accepted.

Luckily, there is a person in the cafe who also happens to have recipes for the Candlebloom spell and gives them to everyone to use. The young man is among the first to get it, and after getting the instructions, he immediately goes to find plates and bowls to use the spell on before using fire magic to light it up.)

Okay, this shouldn’t be this hard to follow the spell chant to grow a candle on a plate. I know that we always have spare plates, glasses, and bowls on hand. Hopefully this spell will work if I can chant this spell properly. Want to help me out with this?

(He asks the first person he encounters if they can join him in doing the Candlebloom spell.)

Snowball Pit Fight!
(Thank Merlin that the people of Lestari have come to the rescue with their snow magic to form tunnels to get around town without getting up in the snowstorm, and Harry’s pretty grateful of their efforts. Thankfully he has made the effort to dress for the weather. Exploring these tunnels reminds him a lot of going through the various places in Hogwarts and Hogsmeade back home, but it is more exciting since you never know what awaits at the end of the tunnel.

So naturally while he is checking out the tunnels with Rose and Hedwig in tow, he soon finds the snowball bit and the young man is in awe of how big it is. Being an elemental mage, he is curious to see how it came to be and he picks up a snowball, tossing it between his hands, when someone yells ‘Heads up!’ and throws a snowball at him.

Harry immediately ducks below to avoid a snowball to the face, not expecting to hear that there is going to be a big snowball fight in the snowball pit. And since he is a natural trouble magnet back in his world, things are going to get really crazy.)

The Man Who Sparkles (by Hottie Sauce)
(Harry has been in Avalon for over a year now and it has been a wild ride for him. On one hand, he’s pretty amazed that he has survived being stranded in Avalon for a long time, made good friends, finally reunited with Hedwig after losing her in his world, and has made tremendous progress as a kinetic and elemental mage. But on the other side, the recent disappearance of Ken and Alice has been tough on him since he was among the first people they have met in Avalon and he had considered them as good friends of his.

Still, life must go on as he enters the Elphame Traders’ shop in the city center to check out the ‘Sorry You’ve Been Stuck for a Year’ sale they’re hosting and, in addition to getting the Land of Maidens totem (which he will only use on the Winter Solstice as instructed), he also finds samples of an intriguing sauce: a hottie sauce, what is it about? At this point, he is pretty bored so he decides to take a sip of it, not expecting that flowers and sparkles are popping around him whenever someone looks at him.)

[I. A Light in the Night]

[There'd been no signs yet of snow coming, but when he woke up and headed out, there was snow - a lot of snow. Like, what in the hell happened? Well, so much for trying to grow food for the winter - and so much for power in some places, it seems completely out.]

[Good thing his world wasn't so advanced like this one - he could still show people how to light fires and retain heat in harsh conditions. He also picked up the (Spell) Candlebloom while heading around and could be found cloaked up and going by homes without light and offering them a bloom.]

Here. Cover the flame. Use it to light the fireplace if you have one. Do you remember the words to chant?

[A final nod and he stepped away, moving onto the next home.]

[II. Snowballs Away!]

[Zidane eventually took a break away from handing out candles and passing out the spell to do something different. It's hard to not want to slip away from all the prepping and misprepping to do something fun.]

[At the snowball pit, he'd already built up several barricades that people can use, but so far, he was using. Ducking behind one, snowball in hand, he peeked out when someone came passing by. Ready... aim...!]

[The unfortunate target would find themselves being nailed soon by a snowball, but good luck catching who threw it. There was a poor attempt to hide a snicker though from one of the snow barricades.]

[III. Big Misnek...]

[One (1) totem that couldn't be used get, but that doesn't stop Zidane from examining the wares the Traders have with them this time. It appeared far more varied than the previous months before which Zidane could appreciate - that meant picking up a few items that might be handy down the line; it was just a matter of where and when.]

[While walking down the line, he noticed the tunics and paused. That couldn't be right, right? The Traders were rather insistent he take one - hell, they let him take two. The cartoon snake's kind of cute, and while it's not something he'd wear often, it'd be something to wear while - say - his go-to clothes were drying or any other reason. It'd be useful for keeping warm during the winter anyway when nothing else was available.]

[... He made a mistake. He just wanted to try the tunic on for a second, but maybe he shouldn't have tried it in the snow.]

[A little melted snow later and people might find bright red scales with flecks of yellow and black among the white, the being unmoving and lying face down. Fortunately, they're not dead, but it's really, really cold as the slightly paled skin at the waist showed...]

She's a little surprised to find an actual end to them--and one that resembles something like a refuse pit, or a midden of some creature composed entirely of snow--just--little snowballs piled up in the whole place. She kicks at one--

--and then the hair on the back of her neck stands up and. POW. Barbara turns her head to and fro swiftly, seeking the culprit, grabbing up a handful of snowballs herself. There's a faint growl in her throat as she presses further into the pit--towards the snickering barricade.]

( it's late. or early, depending on the way you look at things. the quiet hours after the day ticks over and even the bars begin to think about closing, begin chasing patrons out and pointedly dragging out cleaning supplies.

in other words, it's the hour Kate should be going home. and intends to be going home, her thoughts numbed to a wordless buzz which should do nicely at letting her sleep. she shrugs and rolls her eyes as she slides off the stool, balance iffy, her hand thudding against the bar with a heavy slap when her ankle nearly rolls.

ugh. the first few steps at the end of a night is always the worst part, but she makes it to the door without incident. )

... Why's it closed?

( the question is thrown over her shoulder, grumbling as she pushes against it. if you're wanting people to leave, why make drunks push open doors? especially when they're this... heavy?

( there's one thing to be said for kinetic magic — it means snow doesn't stop you. teleporting between buildings in the city is exhausting, true, but Kate manages to escape the bar as soon as she's sober and slowly trudge her way through a truly absurd amount of snow.

it's early afternoon where people trapped in places she's familiar with — shops, more bars, gyms and the like — might find that she's blinked into their place with a small tote bag and promptly leaned on the nearest thing, whether wall, furniture or person. )

( it's not exactly fine dining, but small snack foods and fruit and veg that doesn't need cooking to enjoy. )

( the tunnels opening up is a relief in more ways than one — those attempts at helping others with kinetic magic knocked her flat out and when she wakes up, all she needs to do is... crawl. even if it is fucking freezing and her gloves and jeans quickly get soaked by the snow.

of course, where there's snowballs and familiar faces, there's temptation, brought about by the relief at the fact that someone had an answer for this freak snowstorm, and anyone unfortunate enough to know Kate and be within her eyeshot might want to keep their wits about them as she lobs a snowball in their direction. )

[ There's only one prompt here, fellas - and that's Asterios in the forest, in the cold, in the snow, and refusing to move. His familiar is off at the Tanaka stables, but Asterios has made this forest his home... or, well, refused to live among people since he feels he doesn't deserve otherwise.

So whether you know him, or you're in the forest for whatever reason... there is a snow-covered minotaur sitting under a tree, clearly freezing his fur off, but not budging.]

[Jane gets out into the forest quite often and it being cold and full of snow isn't stopping her. At least under the trees the snow didn't manage to get to quite the dramatic depth that it did over Camelot, and she can walk without ending up drenched.

It doesn't take her long to come across the person huddling under the tree, and she almost misses him entirely before she stops in her tracks and just stares for a moment.]

Um... hello? [He has to be freezing. She's as bundled up as she can tolerate and she is still feeling the chill in the air.] Are you... all right?

Snowball pit

[The cold doesn't bother Jade too much. It even feels rather comforting. He's still dressed for warmth of course, but otherwise, he looks cheerful.

Of course, tripping right into a snowball pit was a surprise. But now that he's observed the mechanism of how it works, he's decided to use the snowballs as intended, and is already pelting whatever poor bystander is in there with him.]

Oh, will you indulge me in a little game? Perhaps with a little bet to make it more interesting?

[Of course, standing at about 6'2" makes him a pretty easy target to hit. Still, there's something fierce in his expression. He intends to win.]

A Wrench in the works

[Jade wasn't quite sure what to make of this wrench at first until he finally realized exactly what it did. Oh, how terrible. And delightful...

So naturally, he's doing what any sensible person would do: he's testing it out. He makes sure to subtly drop the wrench out of sight and watches as the scene unfolds. Someone slipping into a pile of snow, dropping the cake they were carrying, and so forth. It's also a good chance to practice his healing magic, helping the less fortunate individuals. And of course, he makes sure to look appropriately concerned.]

There sure does seem to be a lot of unfortunate occurrences happening today. Are you alright? You are not hurt, are you?

[Granted, he might feel the slightest pang of regret if the injury is severe. But it's also a nice conversation starter.]

[Jade may be cheerful but Azul is not. It's not that he can't handle a little cold (the ocean gets colder than this), it's just that he doesn't like snow. He doesn't like ice, either. The snow isn't special.

a. snow tunnels

[Barbara has never seen anything like these tunnels. She grew up in mountains, and so she hasn't never seen this level of snowfall. But... it's still a lot to deal with. And she found out about it when she woke up in her shed in complete darkness.

After melting her way out with the help of magic and some helpful farmers, she's managed to find her way into the snow tunnels. The eerie silence puts her on-edge, and so does the confined space. So that's why she's got her knife out instead of her spear. And that's why she's spinning on her heel, pointing it at you when she hears your footsteps unexpectedly from the tunnel she just passed.]

[Barbara does not understand the Elphame Traders and it doesn't look like this month is going to change that. Moogle has managed to accept the Cool Firework on her behaf, and also the Snek Tunic, and the sauce.

She's in a public hall that's been repurposed as a warming center when a passerby accidentally spills lukewarm tea on her, and suddenly--bam. Big.

She lurches, ignoring the shouts of alarm as the people immediately around her vacate her space. Where... did her legs go? Barbara looks behind her to see a big old snake tail. She turns her hands over--scales. Her hair is the same, and her face feels the same... but... hm...]


Interesting... [She tries some locomotion. It's--strange. Awkward. But she's not mad about it.]

[This is new. Finn's trudged through thick snow and blizzards while traveling Skyrim, but this is the first time he's seen snow get this high. Even Winterhold never got snow this badly. Finn manages to get himself out and decides to go exploring. Maybe it's a bad idea, but he's done things that almost get him killed all the time.

He holds up his hands in a placating gesture as he suddenly finds himself looking at a knife.]

Winter Was Coming

[The snow doesn't reach the Forest of the Felled, at least not for now, but once Hijikata hears of what happened in Camelot he totem-travels over there with his ghost subordinates crammed into a bulbous, dark-tinted bottle. There may be a lot of work waiting for them in the city - what if people are snowed in, be it inside their houses or out in the wilderness? Upon arrival he soon abandons his initial plan to fetch his horse, given how high the snow is. Riding in these conditions would be impossible.

Since he is no better off than anyone else in terms of getting around he decides to leave the brunt of the work to his spectres, whom he lets out as soon as the sun sets, which is early enough at this time of the year. He stays in one area so he's easy for them to find if they want to report someone in need of physical assistance, sits on the roof of a snowed-in shed and observes the glittering white landscape below, tunnels running invisible under the surface, while smoking a cigarette. Before long two ghosts return to him.]

Commander, we've found someone who needs help!

[He gets up. Who's in trouble? What scene will he find when he gets there?]


The Price of Free

[Hijikata makes sure to put the totem to the Land of Maidens away safely. Hopefully the visit there next month will go smoothly, but at this rate what are the chances? Even the many free items the traders are offering can't quite distract him from the now all the more pressing food shortage, but he accepts what appears to be a hot sauce sample purely to warm himself up a bit with its spice. Little does he know that he'll look like a shoujo manga key frame to anyone who sees him for the first time... or that some of the other items handed out may cause some mayhem before long. He looks up as a firework explodes overhead.]

This again... well, I guess there's less of a chance that they'll cause a fire in this winter wonderland.

[The snow had been coming down hard and fast for so long that her usual high point in the rooftops felt more like a step up from the ground. That was annoying in itself but there were ways that the gunner kept herself entertained.

Pulling her cloak tighter to keep the wind out, the whiteness of the material made Elza hard to see with the snow drifting down all around them.

She watched from beneath her hood, the gunners leg dangling over the edge of the rooftop she sat on while some poor sap got stuck in the tunnel. The sound of it falling around the one in there was unmistakable. Oh she doubted it was smothering the man trapped in there, which was a shame in her mind, but hearing the panicked calls for help well made up for that disappointment.

Now if only she had brought a snack with her.]

[ The end of the harvest season, the darkening of the days, and the plummeting chill of the air all herald winter. Ordinarily, this means there is at least one more week for denizens, farmers and merchants alike, to prepare for the snows storms and ice to follow. Stitching furs to cloaks, reinforcing shed roofs, and  further preparing stores of grain and harvest are among such preparations. However, the abrupt onset of a winter storm robs the good people of one more week to complete their tasks.

And so, Somnus sets out to help with the emergencies...   ]

Re-Preparations

[ With Camelot still somewhat struggling  to provide enough rations for the great influx of refugees from months prior, a sudden snow with less time to prepare staple-food means there is an imperative to protect and reinforce any more crops and storage silos.  Find Somnus--

--> 1. ...reinforcing silos that belong to farmers by means of kinetic magic to lift heavy panels and secure them to the cylinder's sides. Around you, people are rushing in barrels and sacks to keep what grain they have preserved and dry. "Food may be scarce these coming months," he'll comment, expression grim as ever.
--> 2. ...building an additional shed that seems to be specific to birds. That is, a mews.  There is a falcon perched not too far away from Somnus, but Somnus himself appears to be looking for something. "You there. Do you see a brass hinge by your feet?"
--> 3. ...using fire to melt some iced-over heavy farming equipment, a bit huddled into himself. One cannot be too bold with fire if it means it may accidentally melt the machinery itself. But is is growing cold, and he appears paler than usual, despite his focus. ]

[ This magical, sudden coldfront grasps the town abruptly, and frigid sleet and snow torrent down, coating all in a thick layer of white. Unfortunately, you happen to be caught in it. ]

Come.  [ Somnus calls to you over the onslaught of snow, motioning to a shed nearby (hope you like the smell of chickens/sheep/an animal of you choice).  Once safely inside, he shuts the door behind, rubbing his gloved hands together as if to call circulation back to his fingertips. Raising his head, he regards you patiently. ]

You know of the spell, Candlebloom? [ Of course, there is such a thing as magical fire, but he would rather not waste energy sustaining fire when wax may act as fuel. ]

[  On a less hectic note, the heavy snowfall makes for an excellent training of his birds of prey. Today, he has a juvenile grey-brown eagle-owl accompanying him to an open, untouched, white snowfield.

--> 1.  You approach him openly as the owl returns to perch upon his arm bracer, and he feeds the avian a morsel of raw meat. He acknowledges you with a nod, greeting,  "Good afternoon."
--> 2.  The owl accidentally drops its latest catch on you: a dead snow hare. Oops.  Somnus moves towards you, whistling to catch the owl's attention back to him.  ]

[Hailing from a perpetually snowy country means the return to cold weather feels nostalgically normal, no matter how sudden. So Rinea is out and about helping manage Avalon's storm response! This is the first time she's taking part in preparation so directly-- the barony might have been disgraced, but it was still a barony-- but that makes the whole thing more of a novelty than a chore.]

[Rinea trots up to the farmshed Somnus is working at, all smiles. She looks quite at home, cheeks cheerfully pink with the cold; her familiar follows at a distance, lugging garden tools.]

What a pleasant surprise to see you! Are you keeping warm?

[There is a devastating snow storm the previous night. The occasional rattling of the windows makes it hard to sleep well. And the rapidly falling snow piles up and up... and up... and up... Soon the entire city is blanketed with so much snow and ice that it seems like a miracle will be needed just to clear the roads and paths.

When Izuku wakes up that morning there is a deep chill in the air. He shivers with a small groan before trying to reach out for some more warmth. Then he sits up and drowsily glances out the window.]

... Eh...?

[When he sees that the snow has reached almost the sill of the window that is when he looks on with a shocked expression.]

Eh?! ... There's so much snow?!

[Talk about a winter wonderland?!]

A. Candlebloom

[ Amy hates the cold.

It had been bad enough with everyone getting sick thanks to the turn of the weather, and Amy herself is still not entirely better after her own bout of the flu. But she's well enough to be up and around...except thanks to the storm most places are snowed in, and the power is out.

Honestly, it's just the worst.

But at least there are some people teaching an interesting spell to help light things up. Though it does take her a few tries to get the spell right (which she's totally going to blame on still being slightly on the mend). When she finally does manage to do the spell correctly, though, she grins. ]

There we go! Things are looking brighter already!

B. Snow Tunnel(ing)

[ Given that she's not really 100% yet, it's probably not recommended for her to be outside. But Amy is 100% stubborn.

So she's outside, bundled up in not just her coat but also some of the new winter gear that she'd bought on her shopping trip with Ochako, and helping dig some paths and walkways through the snow. And while she knows that some people are using spells to create snow tunnels, Amy is helping dig by hand. ]

Hey, when it comes to digging, you definitely want a hedgehog's assistance.

The Price of Free

[ Hey, nothing wrong with free stuff, right?

Well, that's certainly what Amy thinks, as she tries out some of the samples that the Elphame Traders are offering. She definitely wants to learn that fireworks spell because it seems like it might be fun in the future.

But it's the hot(tie) sauce that has her a bit curious this time, and Amy wonders if she might have misheard as she takes a taste, assuming it's just regular hot sauce. When nothing happens, she frowns a little. ]

Huh...I was kinda hoping it'd help me warm up a bit, but I don't think it's doing anything.

[ Of course, she won't see the flowers and sparkles around her that others will when they look at her. ]

A. Clearing out the Snow (Gizmoduck)

[ While the snowstorm had been rather unexpected, Fenton wasn't entirely surprised when the power goes out. It did seem like a heavy snowfall, and after making sure Atom was kept warm and things in the house would be all right with no power, Fenton got to work.

Soon after places are snowed in, Gizmoduck is out and about to help clear the streets of snow, or help out with digging some of the tunnels for people to get around. It's...not entirely easy, given the unicycle doesn't seem to be the best method of transport in the snow. But with is elemental magic, it isn't entirely bad. ]

B. The Price of Free (Fenton)

[ Fenton is kind of glad that Elphame Traders arrive after the worst of the storm, though part of him wonders if they'd been caught in it while they were traveling. Regardless, they're here a little earlier than usual, which is fine and lets people take a look at some of the interesting new samples.

Fenton himself is inspecting the little alan wrench that they're offering, because he could always use a few extra tools on hand. But he can't help feeling a bit suspicious, because these are supposed to be magical items, after all. ]

So, uh...why is it called a Wuh-Woh wrench again?

[Honestly, this sort of thing isn't as bad as Ochako initially thought. She's always been a lover of winter and winter activities, considering her birthday is at the tail end of December (December 27th to be exact), so after the shock of six feet of snow piled up suddenly, she's all in. The snow tunnels are weird as hell to navigate - Ochako is so used to being above ground that she is underground...or snow, so this is a whole different ballgame, but it's sort of like a weird training? Kind of?? Ar least she's treating it that way.

Regardless, she's thankfully though ahead to buy a ton of warm clothes for the winter months ahead of time, with some thick, brown leggings, black boots that go up to about mid calf, and of course a super cute and cozy hooded cloak. She even has a pair of cozy, knit mittens to keep her hands warm!! And a good thing, too, because the moment Ochako finds the snowball pit? Well, it's war. She gets nailed with a snowball by someone in the distance, having it smack into her shoulder, and huffs before grinning wickedly.]

If you think I'm that much of an easy target, you better think again!! [And like her dad's favorite baseball pitcher, she hurls a snowball back at, well...some direction. She didn't see who hit her, but it's fine. Surely this won't go badly at all.] Comet Homerun!! ...But improvised.

[Snow! Snow!! Rinea has not seen snow since being plucked out of Rigel-- it feels so nostalgic she could cry. But she won't; instead, Rinea will use her wintery expertise to shore up the storm-weathering abilities of the local populace.!If you've managed to get out on top of the whole snowy landscape, you might find her:

a. Removing snow from roofs via alchemy (water cycle babey!) or kinetic magic (JUST PUSH IT)
b. Helping the farms cover flower beds and outside equipment with her large and intimidating familiar, Adalhard
c. Keeping people from walking under particularly deadly icicles before they can be removed. "Wait! Do be careful! It's not safe just yet."]

b. [Hello. Are you a stranger? Rinea has somehow found her way to YOUR door. Or she's found you in the tunnels. She is clutching her usual basket, looking quite warm from its savory soupy contents.]

[Oh dear. Oh dear. This is very embarrassing.

Rinea has gotten overeager with the weather; spending all day running around helping out with magic and chasing people down has worn her quite thin. That wouldn't be so bad on its own, but with the winding tunnels and some slight delirium it's very easy to get lost. And Adalhard doesn't fit down here-- so her familiar can't help....

You may find Rinea sitting at one of the snowball pit junctions, looking Very tired. She smiles faintly. She's probably fine! She's just resting before she has to keep crawling! It was just getting a little suffocating after getting lost in there for too long... let her just sit here...... ...... just for a little while.]

A. IT'S COLD OUTSIDE

[ It had been getting cold so Razor had been sleeping in his room at the inn. When he opened the door early one morning and found as much snow as he did. He stared wide-eyed at it for a few moments then slammed the door and stayed inside for another hour. He's never had to travel through this much snow.

He didn't exactly have any super warm clothing, either. So, when it was closer to noon, he finally left, and he started going through the tunnels. He decided that his first stop would be to get something to eat (maybe something warm). He uses his nose to help guide and turn him through the tunnels of snow. When he comes across someone who looks like they're lost or looking for something. ]

[ He doesn't look dressed for the weather. Still in his standard clothes. But he doesn't shiver or shake. ]

[ He's dressed much warmer than he had been when the storm first started. And he's started to figure out some things about what snow means for others. He's seen a few people building snowmen in some of the clearer areas. He decides that's the thing he wants to do. So, with mitten covered hands he starts to roll up some of the snow into a larger ball first. He's not doing great at it, but it's slowly - very slowly - starting to come together.

He's deep in thought when he hears someone nearby and he glances up in the direction of the visitor. ]

[Rinea is, in fact, lost! She was TRYING to reach the shopping district of the city, but leaving her little neighborhood completely blind has proven a tad difficult. She seems to have taken SEVERAL wrong turns and who knows where they are now! Did she seriously start heading in the direction of the inn??! Razor appearing right when she needs him is a gift from the gods above, surely. (Okay, this is perhaps a slight exaggeration.)

But this thought is quickly sidetracked by--]

Oh, Razor! [Rinea seizes upon him on impulse, looking quite horrified.] You poor dear! Your arms are bare. How long have you been out?!

A. SNOWBALL FIGHT

[ He loves winter. JJ woke up seeing the deep snow and felt refreshed and like he was at home. He stayed in that morning, making a nice warm breakfast and a cup of coffee for himself and Makoto. Once he had coffee in him, he put on his warmest outfit and decided to head out into the snow for the day. He stretched out at his front door and took to exploring immediately.

He moved through the paths comfortably up until he found the ball pit. Oh - this looked amazing to him. So, JJ immediately made his way towards it, diving in to check it out. He doesn't care who passes by, he'll ask without hesitation. ]

Me versus you? First one out buys the other hot cocoa?

B. JJ ON ICE

[ JJ had searched for a place to skate. His skate came with him when he arrived in this place, and he hasn't gotten to use them too often. However, with the cold weather incoming he had been hoping there would be a place to skate. And sure enough - he had found one. He sat near the edge of the ice and pulled on his skates, tying them tight. He pulled off the guards and then stood, stepping onto the ice immediately.

The moment he set foot on it, he felt at home. For him, being on the ice was just as easy as walking. And it was clear by the delighted expression and the ease that he moved that he had done this for a very long time. When he finally got himself going, he would work on a couple of jumps - triples, quads of various types. A few times he stumbled his landings on the quads, but he wasn't deterred or unhappy by it.

He also would occasionally skate towards the edge of the ice and offer his hands to someone who seemed lost. ]

( well, as long as people are making the most of the cold weather, Kate might as well burn off some energy with an ice rink. she hasn't been on one in years, but it's not exactly difficult to put one foot in front of the other and not embarrass yourself, right?

there's a skate rental booth that's popped up right next to the ice, some enterprising young types making the most of everything, and she's happy to send a few gold their way while wrapping her scarf more securely around herself and before looking out onto the rink—

and the fact that JJ is there? not surprising. )

( she's a little unsteady as she comes onto the ice — it's been a while and the shift from walking through the snow to balancing on the slick ice takes a second to get used to, but she's alright, all things considered. )

A. BUNDLED UP

[ He hates the cold. He spends most of the early morning under every blanket he owns, pulling anything around his room up onto the bed and cuddling up underneath them. He goes back to sleep for quite awhile after discovering the deep snow. Up until his stomach grumbles and...he needs food. So he bundles up to get ready to go out.

In addition to a warm pair of pants, a long sleeve shirt, and a hoodie - he has his blanket-like cake pulled over his shoulders, hugging it close as it keeps him warm. He even put on shoes to go outside! And he doesn't normally like doing that if he doesn't feel he has to. He tiredly starts to roam around the paths making his way towards a small café he frequents that features a breakfast all day sort of menu. He steps in, feeling relieved to be inside and lets out an exasperated sigh. ]

I've never seen snow like that!

B. HIBERNATING / NETWORK (un: hypnos)

I need ideas for what to do when we're buried in the snow like this. It's safe to say that I don't experience a lot of snow and I don't know how long it plans to stay. And I think even I'll get bored just sitting around all day.

Also, I would particularly like game suggestions. I need ideas for things that would be good when I'm alone and also if there's people over. You know, just in case.

Which means this is an invitation to come over if you want. If you want to bother braving the weather here. I'm at the inn.

I just want to say that I hate the cold, though.

[Minato was in much the same boat. Japan could get its fair share of snow but he hadn't quite experienced one like this before. But he knew how to bundle up, at least and he was always hungry. A hearty breakfast definitely sounded good, so he and Kuro had set out into the snow to go get some at the very same café the very tall gentleman just walked into.

He held a big to-go cup of hot chocolate in his hands that he had gotten from the coffee shop on the way, wanting something warm while he walked in the snow. He looked up at the man, taking his eyes off the menu for a moment.]

I don't think anyone has.

[His voice was quiet and he sipped at his hot chocolate soon after. He nodded up to the menu.]

A warm drink will help, though.

i. Let It Snow

[It’s been a while since she’s seen snow, and Jane doesn’t think she has ever seen snow like this. Between herself and Aurora and some magic they did manage to dig their way out of their house without too much trouble, and naturally Jane had immediately bundled herself up to go out and explore what was happening.

There are definitely a few occasions when she sinks almost waist-deep into the snow because she steps on the wrong spot, but all in all she manages to get to where some people are without too much trouble… if a little soaked and cold by the time she gets there. Luckily there’s magic here, or it wouldn’t be nearly as easy to clear the streets.

Jane puffs out a breath that mists in front of her face and brushes a little snow off a bench before she sits down. She rummages around in her satchel and pulls out a thermos, popping off the lid before she catches the eye of someone walking past (perhaps curious about what she might have?).]

Oh-- It’s hot chocolate, do you want some?

[She only has one cup, but she doesn’t mind drinking straight from the flask.]

ii. Hottie Sauce

[Being a relatively intelligent person, she tucks the totem she gets into her bag - likely to be forgotten about until such time as she is reminded that she needs it - and explores what the traders have brought along with them.

And she’s hardly going to say no to free samples.

The one she chooses though, does become a little embarrassing when she locks eyes with someone and flowers and sparkles immediately appear around her head. When it happens for the third time in five minutes she presses one hand to her face and wafts the other around her head to try and swipe the illusions away. It doesn’t work.]

I didn’t think it would be quite so… [She fumbles, searching for a word.] … incandescent.

i. Snowed In

[Since the refugees arrived in Camelot, Poison had given up her room at the inn and spent a lot of nights just sleeping on a couch in the alchemy guild. It wasn’t doing her back any good, but she’d slept in worse places and with a fire going the place was practically cosy.

When she wakes up the morning after the snow falls she has an instant feeling that something is off. The street below sounds too quiet - muffled - and it only takes a moment of peeking out of the window to find out why that is.]

What the…

[A few minutes later, she pokes her head out of one of the windows on the second floor and leans out, shivering slightly against the cold.]

Hey! [She shouts to the first person she spots passing in the street.] Can you help me out of here?

ii. Prank War Casualty

[Everything is quite peaceful, with the snow blanketing the town. People go about their days and Poison didn’t stay trapped in the alchemy guild building for too long.

There’s the sound of snow sliding off a roof, and then a frustrated shout--]

DAMN IT, CLAUDE!

[Anyone investigating the cause of the yell will find a very disgruntled-looking young woman working her way out of yet another snowdrift that slid off a roof onto her head. It’s happened three times now, and all because she happened to put snow down the back of Claude von Riegan’s jacket.

She’ll get him. Once she stops getting buried under snow every time she walks too close to a building. Poison is all but oblivious to anyone looking at her as she mutters irritably, floundering out of the snow.]

I swear, I’m coming for you in your damn dreams...

[He had, of course, immediately bundled up against the snow as best he could...and gotten to work. Much as he enjoyed not having to be the Avatar here, with so many heroes to act as such - he couldn't help but...well, help. That wasn't about being the Avatar: that was about being Aang.]

[She might, at first, see only a dim figure in the snow, but the burst of flame from his hand, pushing a path forward through the snow, might bring him more clearly into view shortly.]

i. Chióni [Snow]

[Thanatos is old enough to have seen snow before - it often falls on the mountains of Greece when the weather is cold enough - but he has never had reason to… experience snow. Of course, given the giddy and adventurous nature of his partner, he finds himself out in it whether he desires to be outside or not and once he’s out, he doesn’t immediately retreat back indoors.

Levitation is a very useful thing when the snow is so deep, and where it hasn’t been cleared or tunneled through he floats a couple of inches above it. Being mortal now he’s dressed against the weather in more ‘modern’ attire, though now and then he will fuss at his scarf with absent-minded movements. It feels strange to wear something so soft and warm around his neck.

If he spots someone struggling in the snow, he’ll not hesitate to offer a hand down to get them back up on their feet. Or you may spot him idly floating and examining his hands (his fingertips have gone numb and it feels strange), or the snow. If you happen to be closer with him, a small ball of loose snow might hit the back of your head or shoulder when you aren’t looking.

Thanatos is the only one around, but… it can’t possibly have been him, can it?]

ii. Candlebloom

[While he hasn’t gone out of his way to learn other spells offered now and then for convenience, when the power goes out this one feels like it will definitely have a use beyond current events. So he accepts it, learns it, and finds himself entirely taken in by making little candles.

Once he amasses a few in a little collection by his feet, he glances up when he feels someone observing him and regards them for a moment with sharp yellow-gold eyes. Then, he tips his head down to the crafted candles and speaks in a quiet, level voice.]

Do you want one? Take it.

[Honestly he’s just practicing, and doing something novel is always nice when you’re as old as he is.]

[Well, that was embarrassing. Minato had misjudged some of the hardened snow and fell clean through what was actually fresher snow. He could hear Kuro snickering who wasn't exactly any better, but he was a dog and ultimately enjoyed the snow. He sighed, intending to reach out and use the big black dog to pull himself out when he found himself lifted out of the snow by someone else!

He looked up and who it was and blinked, a small smile on his face.]

i. Winter Was Coming

[Red Wine has always preferred the cold to heat, but this is a bit much even for him. It’s not the cold, as such, but the snow and the way that he has to literally force his way out of the house when he opens the door and finds it utterly blocked by a wall of snow. Later on, he finds out about the snow tunnels. Red Wine locates one and stands at the entrance of it, arms loosely folded and head tipped to one side as he observes it with an appraising expression.]

Are we expected to use those? [Is he about to get on his hands and knees to crawl through a snow tunnel? Absolutely not. He definitely does not need what is on the other end of it that badly.]

I haven’t done this in a while.

[Part of the lake was frozen, and a fine way to take advantage of it is skating. Red Wine hadn’t taken much persuasion once the idea was put into his head, and he’s seated and lacing up a pair of snug-fitting skates as he speaks to the person near to him.

It has been a while, and his fingers fumble at the laces as the chill in the air bites at his hands. He frowns and lifts them up to puff some warm air on them, rubbing them together.]

If I fall over, you have my full permission to laugh.

[He says this with a faintly wry smile, knowing that Bailey would laugh anyway, and giving them that permission will only mean they don’t at least attempt to hide it for the sake of his dignity.]

When you say "a while", do you mean like... A couple years or a couple decades?

[Which Bailey thinks is a fair question, considering how old they know Red Wine is.

They're not an awful ice skater, at least, even if learning how had been entirely against their will. Their sister had a figure skating fascination when they were younger and their parents decided to sign her up for lessons, and figured that if one kid was going to be doing it, might as well sign up the other. Bailey had quickly discovered they didn't like figure skating - skating itself was fine, enjoyable even!, but the spins made them feel sick and it took so long to figure out how to land a jump without landing on their ass that Bailey wanted to just write the whole thing off.

At least Alaina didn't like it too much, either.]

But that sounds fair enough - except if you pull me down with you you're not allowed to laugh.

[Though they'll probably both end up laughing if that happens.

They reach out to cover Red Wine's hands with theirs, already laced up and ready to skate, pulling his hands close. Ostensibly it's to warm them up, but mostly it's because Bailey has found they kind of enjoy these smaller displays of public affection.]

[Mogget manages to deal with the deep snow by not walking in it, instead using high walls and rooftops to navigate Camelot for the first half of the first day after the snowfall. It isn’t that he hasn’t seen snow before, but he dislikes getting his feet and fur wet and the cold chill in the air means that, unfortunately, he can’t find many open windows to sneak in through and find a place to nap.

He barely shows up against the snow, his pure white fur blending into it almost perfectly. Only his bright green eyes and the red collar around his neck make him stand out.

The cat makes his way around the town, occasionally stopping to stare at people, until his overconfidence lets him down. He misjudges a jump down and slips, sliding off a fence with a noisy yowl and landing tail-up in a snow drift. His tail lashes against the snow as he struggles to free himself and--

Is it your imagination, or is that cat cursing?]

ii. Cool Fireworks

[When it gets dark, someone walking through the street might find their attention captured by someone shooting fireworks from their fingers up on a roof. There’s a small young man up there, bundled up in warm clothes and with white hair and strangely green eyes, his slitted pupils blown wide in clear enjoyment of what he’s doing as he sends one shimmering firework after another into the darkening sky.

Mogget doesn’t show his excitement often - not as visibly as this at least - but finally getting proficient enough with animal magic to take a preferred human shape and hold it has given him a new range of freedom that he has found incredibly cheering.

So he learned this spell, not really thinking about how much he would like it, and has found a certain innocent enjoyment in something so simple.

However, if he senses someone watching him his eyes immediately narrow and he offers a short, sharp--]

[Albedo more or less stayed inside to continue studying this world's alchemy. He didn't really care for the snow even after spending so many of his days in Dragonspine. It was just a means to an end in that place. It was much the same here in Camelot. But, even if he was not quite human, he still required nourishment and so he needed to venture out to restock the supplies in his room.

It was with an armful of groceries that Albedo reached down to gently pluck the cursing cat from the snow and onto something a little more solid.]

Winter Was Coming

He's never really gotten to enjoy winter before, really. And with six feet of snow on the ground, well, that presents a lot of possibilities. The first thing he does, of course, is help others - because you can take him out of being the Avatar, but can't take the Aang out of him. He moves around, carving paths with fire spells and air spells...and, on the outskirts, carving a six-foot-high snow maze, bit by bit. Because that surely helps morale, right? If people can wander about an ice maze?

He has, through daily practice, used elemental magic to mostly replace his bending, though earth magic is still difficult; but he's finally getting water down - and that means he also finds the nearest hill to make ice slides - which he leaves a sign by, inviting all and sundry to use. Whether or not he's there for characters, or pairs or whatever, to make use of them is immaterial.

His biggest problem, really, is keeping Appa from just floating through the snow walls he makes, rather than try to fly over them, because Appa doesn't have the sort of time to take the long way. Shrunk down or not, the Skybison does what the Skybison wants.
