[ gran was very much the farmboy, so he's used to handling sheep. sure, they can breathe fire, but nothing was too challenging for the captain! so there he was, buried in shaven sheep wool as he worked away without a care in the world. when he realized that there was just too much to manage all on his own, he laughed. ]

Whoops, got too carried away! [ he turns to his partner with a grin. ] Mind helping me out?

[ being unaware of the truth-telling, gran was more than happy accepting the drink and floating in the air without a care. it almost felt like he was back on the grandcypher, welcoming the best parts of his home world without a care. but getting down was another problem. but best not to think on it right now. sunbathing while floating was a lot more fun. ]

I wonder how clouds form....

[ gran had been struggling with elemental magic. at first he had found it exciting, but nowadays he just found it uninteresting. he found endless possibility in alchemy, but not in elemental magic. so he was at the training grounds, trying to find out it if it was him, or if it was just the magic that he found boring.

but even with that, he couldn't find anything wrong. ]

Would changing magic be any good? Or am I just overthinking things? [ he didn't expect anyone to answer, but it was eating away at him. ]

Totally rough... [ a solemn nod. ] Though honestly, it'd backfire because then it's a lot of food, and he'd run out of lamb quickly...

...Maybe that's why he just ran off and left the rest of us to deal with the cursed sheep...

[ Frankly, that makes as much sense as anything else. In her (limited) experience, curse-casters usually don't want to stick around for the consequences of their actions.

For now, she crouches down, picking up a discarded bit of hay and holding it out to one of the sheep in an offering. ]

At least they're still cute. Everything's cuter when it's small.

Most likely... But these poor sheep.... [ no one should be limited by the fire power they hold. ] Better save them from themselves.

[ the sheep seemed content with the hay, especially as it was still shaky from the shearing. ]

That's true. If they were any bigger we'd be fighting, not shearing.

I don't recommend any fights that use fire. Dealing with the splash damage is the worst.

[ Both from the enemy and from your allies. Sometimes, you go into what you think will be a completely normal supply run, and the next thing you know, the fight is over in ten minutes and you have to spend the next three hours stomping out the fires because someone got a little overzealous. ]

If these guys were bigger, you might as well slap wings on them and call them a wyvern.

Agreed.... [ he knows that the more... fire happy of his crewmates would be upset, but burning down houses wasn't something he looked forward to. ]

Astrals, imagine a big, fluffy wyvern, though. I bet if you friended one of them, they'd be the best pillow! Warm, soft, and you could sleep in the fluff no problem!

What kind of wyverns have you known...?

[ This feels like a legitimate question to ask. In a weird multiverse where the King Arthur is not either of the versions she knows (or the variations of one of them), it seems entirely likely that there might be a world out there where wyverns could conceivably be befriended at all.

It still feels a little weird, though! ]

Most of the ones I've met would bite your head off the moment you got into introduction range.

Ehehe... I've met a lot of wyverns-- from the super friendly to the ones who will snap at you the moment you step into their homes.

[ his mind is brought to the countless primals he's fought. no fun. but then he thinks of vyrn, one of his closest friends. yep, he's known a lot. ]

But the nicer ones are some of the best wyverns you'll ever meet.

I think that wyverns must be very different, where you come from...

[ Do wyverns even have homes?? She can't really imagine a little Typical Family Unit of wyverns, even in the wilder flights of fancy her imagination can go to. They're just all teeth and claws and people yelling things like GET OUT OF THE WAY!! as she runs for her life. ]

The ones I know are definitely closer to just wild animals. --Maybe kind of like the bears at national parks?

[ his mind wanders to two particular people, and how they would often talk with dragons as if they were human.

but hearing about her kind of wyverns makes him shudder. ]

Scary. Remind me to be on guard if I ever have to meet them.

Trust me, if we ever get homestyle wyverns here, everyone's gonna know to be careful.

[ "They're practically a meme at this point!" she doesn't say, but it is definitely a thought that crosses her mind, and has her making a brief face. ]

They like to dive from above, but they also tend to be pretty loud, so you can hear 'em coming.

[ a wince. ] At least they have the decency to make noise before hurting. Gives time to dodge or anything.

[ ... ] If they dive from above, you could probably just bat them away. Wonder if that's a sport.
