[ gran was very much the farmboy, so he's used to handling sheep. sure, they can breathe fire, but nothing was too challenging for the captain! so there he was, buried in shaven sheep wool as he worked away without a care in the world. when he realized that there was just too much to manage all on his own, he laughed. ]

Whoops, got too carried away! [ he turns to his partner with a grin. ] Mind helping me out?

[ being unaware of the truth-telling, gran was more than happy accepting the drink and floating in the air without a care. it almost felt like he was back on the grandcypher, welcoming the best parts of his home world without a care. but getting down was another problem. but best not to think on it right now. sunbathing while floating was a lot more fun. ]

[ gran had been struggling with elemental magic. at first he had found it exciting, but nowadays he just found it uninteresting. he found endless possibility in alchemy, but not in elemental magic. so he was at the training grounds, trying to find out it if it was him, or if it was just the magic that he found boring.

but even with that, he couldn't find anything wrong. ]

Would changing magic be any good? Or am I just overthinking things? [ he didn't expect anyone to answer, but it was eating away at him. ]

That makes sense. I'll tell you this, it's pretty good to have on hand while traveling. It can help deal with some obstacles that your alchemy probably can't.

Yeah! I've never met another alchemy user.

[ he listens, humming to himself. ] You have a point there. I guess because I had it at home I don't find it interesting...

Oh? I'm not one. Kinetic, but I know an Alchemist.

[Zidane nods.] How'd you use it at home and how have you tried using it here?

[granmaster]

Ah, that makes sense. [ he didn't look the type, anyways. ]

I used it mostly when fighting, but it really depended on what role I was filling in the moment. [ sometimes a gacha protag had to be a tank or a cannon. one cannot pick. ] Small spells or just using the element to fight with.

You know, when I first arrived here, someone suggested to me to try mixing magic. You should try getting a little more creative outside of fighting. But I mean, if you don't really like it, can you change it here?

[granmaster]

Yeah! You look like you'd rather than move than stay in one place. [ honest answer for what feels like a teasing question. ]

I heard you can, so I just got to thinking about it, is all. But mixing magic...? [ that got the wheels turning in his head. ] That does sound kind of fun, actually. [ and then an idea struck, little gasp and eyes sparkling included. ] Bombs with elemental magic in it!

[ cagliostro would be proud. ]

... Well, you're not wrong, haha! [It's a very teasing question and he passes.]

Yeah, you're getting it! [He's not so sure why he jumped to bombs, but sure.] Like, think of one mixed with ice magic!

[ gran feels like he dodged a bullet but isn't gonna mention it. ​]

Oh, that sounds super fun to make, actually! [ the gears in his head were turning wildly. ] Ice magic could be like... an area of effect kind of thing, while a lightning filled one could be used to blind people...

Blind, or paralyze. Either way, you could buy some time to attack or escape.

[He just needed to turn those gears more. Maybe something more practical and outside of battle next, but something else to consider while fighting...]

I know someone likes using his elemental magic with his gun.

[granmaster]

You're right-- Oh, earth can be used to make a sort of trap! Like a net to catch either a runaway bad guy or a animal or something!

[ he's got too many ideas that he's pulled out a notepad he carries for alchemic recipes and starts writing down even more ideas. but hearing someone likes to use his elemental magic with his gun stops him in his tracks. ]

Oh, really? How does that even work...? Was the gun bought here or was it brought from home...?

Yeah! And wind magic could help you catch a bird, or maybe you could stop a wind storm once you're strong enough!

[Some of the faes in the mountains could use wind magic. He could counter it with his own.]

I dunno. You'd have to ask him. I didn't even know about guns until coming here.

[granmaster]

[ give him a moment to scribble down those ideas down before they left his head. ]

Good idea! What's his name? If I meet him then I'll be sure to ask.

It's Eustace. Tall guy, fluffy ears, you can't really miss him.

[ why is he now meeting all of eustace's friends???? are they trying to get his personal information out of him????? ]

... then again, he tends to attract the happy types. [ side eyeing beatrix and zeta, hard. ]

Yup! I met him pretty much when I arrived here.

[Tilting his head.]

Huh... small world. [ not really, gran, you just attract every kind of person. ]

We are! He's one of my crewmates. I'm Gran, by the way!

Oh, awesome! I'm Zidane! If he's ever mentioned me, I'm sure he was scowling. And if he hasn't, he was probably scowling anyway haha!

You're not wrong-- I don't think I've ever seen him smile.

[ that's a lie, but gran figures that a white lie to save eustace's image wouldn't hurt anyone and his life. ]

[He maybe caught Eustace smiling once, but that's it.]

Hey, nice to meet you too! And ha, I'm pretty sure the only one who might get him to smile is Tifa...

[He's joking, but he'd bet it's true.]

Yeaaahhhh, he's a real tough nut to crack.

[ he laughs, remembering how some of the other crewmates would try to get him to smile with no avail. ]

.... But you said she's the only one? Explain. [ is this juicy gossip??? then he's all in. ]

[He snickers too. But putting him around dogs was definitely cheating... who doesn't like to cheat sometimes?]

[ because even he noticed that she had brought food for him, and she hadn't even met him! he wonders if it's because eustace had just mentioned him in passing and tifa just remembered. ]

But they are... something tells me we're probably going to have to push them together....
