the Phoenix Roost is as it ever is, except for the fact that the only people there have heard about this party in one way or another. there's nothing to suggest that this party is for reasons other than Kate simply wanting to host one, but if you're here, you might know her well enough to guess that to be untrue.

but, hey, does that matter? there's alcohol flowing freely and music playing, so grab a drink, talk to a stranger, make bad choices! just try to avoid murder for a night, thank you. )

[When Kitten gets the invite to a party from Mr. Manslayer, they're a bit... Confused? Like, of all people, why invite them. It's not like he feels guilty over stabbing them.

But they're not about to look a gift horse in the mouth.

So they arrive shockingly on-time, dressed to impress, complete with fluffy white wings. They're glad it's the summer, because if it was cold right now? No thanks.

Their first stop is the bar, where they're quick to order. They look around, before humming.]

It's all covered, right?

[The drinks, they mean. Obviously.]

[So one of the things about being only partially human, is that sometimes your body does not process things the same way a human does. Liquor didn't have much effect on Kitten before - any sort of poison or illicit substance never really did much of anything - but now they're, well. Painfully mortal. Painfully human.

So they're more than a little bit drunk, and this is the first time it's ever happened to them.

Unfortunately for everyone, turns out Kitten is a bit of a touchy, friendly drunk. They drape themself over anyone who's decided to take a seat and relax - or plasters themself to the side of anyone that's too tall to drape on - and gives them their most winning smile.]

Are you having a good time? It's a good party, yeah? 'S one of the best I've ever been to, even if nobody's died yet!

[ given how he's come dressed for this occasion, it's easy enough to overlook izō's presence at the bar at first. he also didn't have a set of ears and a fluffy tail before either, although both of which are the same shade his hair normally is rather than purple.

those dog ears aren't just for show though as they give him a bit of an edge when it comes to hearing things apart from the music, which is why he appears not long after kitten placed their order. the glass in his hand is half full with some sort of mixed cocktail that gives it a bright orange colour and the cherry and orange slice it's been garnished with remains, for the time being, untouched. there's a little coffee stirrer-sized straw in it which he has no idea whether or not he's supposed to use to drink the drink — strange western custom, perhaps? — but that's what he's doing anyway. he's also notably down one sword from the set of two he'd had before, only the smaller wakizashi still tucked into his obi. ]

They said this was called 'A Short Trip To Hell'. Got curious.

[ it would seem he's in a good mood now that he's not trying to feel something with little more than travel-sized liquor bottles at his disposal. it takes him a minute but eventually, he notices what kitten is wearing. and then has to parse what kitten's wearing. if it were quieter in here you could probably hear the gears turning. ~~and of course, he looked. he's not a monk.~~ ]

Heh, don't feel bad. You didn't know ya were gonna have competition.

[Kitten turns, giving Izo an appraising look. The ears are… Cute. Really cute. They kind of want to pet them?

They stamp down on the urge - for now - and shoot him a grin.]

Then they take another considering look at Izo, taking in this whole ensemble.]

Mm. I think my tits are nicer.

Dunno yet. It's weird...

[ he sets the drink down but he doesn't sit. he'd be too restless to sit, so he just tries leaning against the bar instead. no one told him the mixer was red bull. izō also does not know what red bull is because he's never had an energy drink. that repetitive knocking sound is his tail hitting the bar stool behind him, apparently the dog equivalent of bouncing your leg. ]

Yeah, yeah. I'm sure. Wouldn't be havin' to look at 'em if ya didn't feel superior.

[ yes, he's terribly inconvenienced by this and he's very convincing. (he's not.) also: he fails to see how this comment is also an incredible self-own. ]

It’s getting harder and harder to resist reaching out, but they manage to stay their hand.]

[Izo, you make it so hard not to laugh at you when you dunk on yourself without even realizing it.

[ As a friendly, expressive person himself, he is only momentarily surprised when he's being draped all over. He's been to many clubs, so he supposes this is not the first time an overly drunk person has decided to hang onto him. And, he's also put quite a lot in his system so his inhibitions are down --

Which also means he's even dumber than he'd usually be. He pats the empty seat next to him in offering for the new stranger, and JJ looks towards them. ]

A great time! But died? That's a low bar!

[ JJ seems to think Kitten is joking. ]

We'd hate to ruin a party Kate set up with fights, right?

[They slide into the empty seat, grinning at JJ.]

[They won’t start things at a stranger’s party - at least not when they know how long it’ll take to heal if they come out on the losing end.]

But don’t worry, I don’t think anyone here is that much of an asshole.

[ He blinks curiously at the other, shaking his head. He's definitely not big on violence. ]

I'd have to be a pretty dull party to need it.

[ Plus in a place where everyone has access to magic? He's certain this building would get pretty busted up if a few people got a little too wild. ]

[ His attitude immediately shifts. ]

Everyone here seems pretty great and excited to have fun. Besides - there's drinks. Speaking of -- [ A wave down to order one for himself and -- ] Whatever they're having.

[She's surprised to find a very drunk person draped over her shoulder while she sits nursing her last drink of the night, feeling pleasantly fuzzy around the edges. Her mind has been drifting back and forth for a few minutes, considering sending someone a text but continually talking herself out of it due to the likelihood of saying something ridiculous, and Kitten's arrival is a perfect distraction.]

Oh, yes... absolutely. [It is a good party when nobody dies.] And nothing has exploded, either. Very good as far as I'm concerned.

[The last party she went to had been some time ago, but she still vividly remembers the explosion as Vanya Hargreeves' powers had combusted outside the house and sent a shard of shattered glass into her abdomen as she'd walked by a window.]
