A Tea Invitation (CLOSED TO THREE HOUSES CHARACTERS)

A letter is delivered to you by courier, your name inscribed on the envelope in elegant handwriting, and sealed with the familiar eagle insignia of the Adrestian Empire. Breaking the seal, the letter unfolds and is read as such:

I would be pleased if you would join me for tea and light discussion. I believe a clearing of the air between us would be beneficial to both parties, and there are matters concerning our different worlds I would ask you about, as I'm sure you have about mine. Please reply at your earliest convenience.

Should you agree to the meeting, you'll find Edelgard waiting for you at the appointed time. Fortunately, the weather has held and the veranda is sunny. The tea is brewed and has a familiar scent to it; it seems she's managed to procure your favoured blend, or at least the last she knew to be your favoured. She has forgone the crown and severe hair-buns in favour of a sidetail.

"I'm pleased you could join me. Have a seat, and I'll pour you a cup."

Some Happy Little Trees

Byleth was all too quick to see to it Edelgard was well-stocked with painting supplies not long after their arrival. It was a touching gesture, and Edelgard was eager to get back to it now that she had a surplus of time to devote to it. During the war, she'd never felt comfortable spending too much time on it even when the odd moment of free time since it seemed...wasteful. When there was so much else to be doing. However, free of the war and even with the responsibilities of magic studies, she felt more at ease practicing her craft. And Brocéliande and the surrounding countryside provided an abundance of material.

Today's study are green fields near the road to the Red Springs. Set up with her easel and chair Edelgard works, but it's a slow process. The sound of movement on the road catches her attention and she glances behind to see if someone is lingering.

"Can I help you?" She asks. Normally she's not adverse to conversation, but she'd prefer to focus on getting over the art-block she's having.

Wetding

Edelgard has a specific gift in mind to replay the art supplies Byleth gifted her, but that will take time to gather the necessary funds. While this quest opportunity doesn't supply money, a gift basket to liven up their living quarters will suffice in the short-term. But the sprites will require a selection of dolls to make their choice, so enlisting aid in crafting the dolls only made sense.

"I'm almost finished this one. Hand me the blue ribbon, would you? I just need to tie it off."

Later on, you get a message from Edelgard asking her to join you in the hotel room. She's looking out the window when you enter and she waves you over. "Come, you're just in time. The sprites have arrived and I thought you might want to see the results of our hard work." Below, the wedding ceremony is almost ready to start.

"Ah... I do apologize. I didn't mean to interrupt." Maribelle nods her head in apology, hand to her chest.

"It's just... well, this might sound odd, but... it never occurred to me that there would be art in this realm as well."

Edelgard waves the apology away. "It's not a bother. Don't worry about it." This was a fairly well-traveled thoroughfare, after all. She was expecting the occasional gawker. And this young woman isn't being terribly obtrusive either.

She reaches down for the canteen by where she's sitting and takes a drink. "It does, though not quite like this." She gestures to the canvas upon which she's working. "I'm given to understand they use those...computer-machines to do most of it. Or using rocks and trees as the canvas. It's rather admirable, the dedication to the protection of natural spaces here." And carrying that stack of canvases had earned Byleth more than a few sullen looks, which confused her more than anything until Edelgard looked into it more and discovered the aversion to more familiar mediums of painting. "But it does exist. I could tell you where to find some absolutely stunning groves, if you'd like." Her first month she might have kept to herself, but she hadn't been idle.

"It would do my heart good to see some natural beauty," Maribelle admits. She's had a rough time of things in this world, and then everything with Caster... suffice to say, her heart is quite heavy. But of course she's not going to burden this polite stranger with her woes.

"Do you plan on displaying your art anywhere? It might do this place a world of good. Sometimes I feel this world is completely lacking in culture."

There does seem to be something troubling the young woman, judging by her voice. "Do you spend much time in any of Camelot's parks?" Edelgard asks. "That's where I've seen the bulk of that natural art I mentioned. And they make for enjoyable afternoon walks, I've found." Perhaps it might help with whatever sorrows she appears to be dealing with, but that's not for Edelgard to say.

However, she shakes her head vigorously. "Oh, no. No, no. I don't think so." She denies. "I'm not nearly ready to display my work." The painting looks fine, but from Edelgard's reaction doesn't seem like false modesty. "I'm still far too rusty with this style." Maybe if she tried her hand at realism again, but that holds little appeal for her these days. "And there seems to be a certain stigma against art displayed on a canvas like this. I doubt anyone would be inclined to come even if I did think I was ready for a showing."

A humble, modest artist? Why, that just makes Edelgard look even better in Maribelle's eyes. What a good woman to have in her company.

"I'm no art critic, but I've never heard of such a ridiculous stigma." Time to give her opinion when it wasn't asked, as always. "Art should be appreciated no matter how it is displayed! It is a physical embodiment of time, effort, imagination, and ambition! A thing to be admired, not scorned! Any who would dare turn their nose away from this merely because it's on a canvas wouldn't know good art if it smacked them in the face. It is their loss, truly!"

"It's cultural, from what I understand." Edelgard replies, refocusing on her art, though not neglecting Maribelle. Not a shy one, is she? Reminds her a little of Lysithea, which is endearing. "There's a strong tendency towards the preservation of natural spaces, which precludes the use of most paper or wood for art." Canvas wasn't exactly paper, but often necessitated the use of wood for display, which was enough for most Avalonians to take a bit of umbrage. "I do think it an admirable sentiment."

She dips her brush into her paint, "I suppose learning to use a computer would be the logical step, since this...digital format is more accepted." She doesn't sound very enthused about the prospect; she can use the smartphone well enough, but she's seen some of these computers the Avalonians use but they look far worse than even the most complex arcane formula she ever studied at Garreg Mach.

Maribelle clicked her tongue - not at Edelgard, but for the community at whole. "I can't say I care for those devices... they're terribly complicated, yet seem far too easy to abuse." The world of real-life Twitter would probably horrify her.

"Still... either way, I can't force you to display what you aren't comfortable with. I can only hope you continue to pursue your artistic ambition, no matter what this realm throws at you." And as far as she was concerned, this world threw a lot at people.
