Log: Holy Grail War

🧙 WHO: Caster & OPEN (with a couple of closed TLs)
⚔️️ WHAT: Caster's gone on a grief-induced rampage after learning of the death of her lover back home
🕒 WHEN: June 6th, late night
🗺️ WHERE: The Brocéliande woodland
⚠️ WARNINGS: Violence, Arson, Kidnapping, Death Threats, Magical Torture, Grief, potential Body Horror (Will add more as they come up)

So here it was...the Witch of Betrayal finally showing her 'true colours' to Avalon. After that network post, Caster readied herself for whatever would come of it- the forest fire providing an ominous backdrop.

Since she'd come to Avalon, so many had told her she was a good person- and now, she was publicly burning it all to the ground.

I don't want Caster to get killed, but I'm all for her potentially getting maimed/scarred provided we plot first. If you don't think it's IC for your character to not just murder her, send me a message so we can plot how she can remove herself from the situation/have someone else intervene before it gets that far!

She'll be using her familiar symbiosis to fight and leaning toward making the actual description of that transformation slightly body-horror-y, but if you're not comfortable with that then just give me the heads up and I'll have her already turned when the thread starts.

Darin will have his own TL for rescuing him/fighting his own familiar fusion, which I'll link here when it's up- feel free to tag one or both as you see fit!]

Archer had his swords with him and he was completely alone. He had left the apartment the moment he had seen the post to make sure both Rin and Saber wouldn't catch up up him. This was something he needed to do alone after all.

"Caster. Release the hostage and then we can fight or whatever you wish to do."

At least she knew he wouldn't be able to summon a barrage of weapons, she mused as she eyed the swords in his hand.

"Well- it's good you came here quickly. After all, that poor man was suffering under the weight of all those curses."

Sad man who was nowhere to be seen. She'd already sent him off, after all.

Now that he takes a better look, he does notice that the guy is nowhere to be seen anymore. If he'd be dead there would likely be more signs of that. He came out here pretty fast so it's not like Caster could have just gotten rid of the body in that time. Besides, Caster would enjoy the face he made if he found out he came too late so she would have waited.

"I see you still have some sense left."

"Well, the network seems adamant in calling me mad...perhaps I have lost my senses. You should consider yourself lucky I don't have my former power. I could have made you watch everyone you care about burn-"

Of course, the witch had no intention of starting the duel fairly- flicking her wrist mid-sentence, sending the shadows up from underneath him in an attempt to bind him in place.

"-Just like I did to him all those years ago."

Lucky they're both unfair in their fighting methods. It gives Archer a sense of what to possibly expect from this. He manages to jump in time to avoid being caught by the shadows that he uses some wind magic on to keep further away from himself.

"You've got to try a little harder than that, Caster", he said as he redirected the wind towards her.

"Is that an invitation?" An almost crazed smile came into her face as she dodged back into the trees- the wind certainly wasn't helping with the fire, not that Caster really cared how much had to burn for her to get her way.

And here, there were more shadows she could play with, sending a wave of darkness to try and blind him whilst she readied an enchanted dragon fang in one hand.

Archer was supposed to stop more damage from happening, but wind had seemed the most convenient means to dodge the shadows. He switches to water to put out fires from the surrounding area, so they don't both scorch to death.

Unfortunately, as occupied as he is with that it leaves him open for the darkness to blind him. At least with his eyesight gone, he can focus on his primary magic better and try and listen for Caster's mind and locate her that way.

Perhaps, in a better state of mind, Caster would have thought that roasting herself in the heat was a bad idea- and perhaps, she wouldn't have been so confident when she saw her curse take effect.

Caster's mind was loud. A howling abyss of fire and grief that at once seemed a chaotic typhoon as it did calm, focused, knife- the eye of the storm itself.

At least that meant it would be easy to find her.

Whilst she believed him to be on the back-foot, she tried to twist that darkness further inward- hoping to cause him pain.

It was really easy to locate Caster and "see" where she was. He moved towards the place, keeping as little noise as possible and using his magic to add the noise in her mind so she wouldn't hear.

Then she user her magic to cause him pain and he bit hard on his lower lip to keep himself from making any noise and giving away his position.

Once he was close enough he send a wave of water at her, hoping it would come as a full surprise.

"Ngh...!" How did he- something was clouding her vision, no, not her sight- her perception.

Cognitive magic?

The wave caught her and sent her flying back, whilst her dragonic familiar roared in Archer's direction, going in to try and bite him.

Archer's familiar, the phoenix, flew in to protect him from the dragon-like familiar's attack. While the phoenix wasn't very large, it was still a fighter just like Archer.

Thankful for the support, Archer took this opportunity to dash towards Caster with his swords in hand.

Whilst the dragon tried to claw and bite at the small phoenix, Caster focused on evading Archer's attacks, calling out the shadows to mask her presence.

If she could just use the trees as cover to get behind him, she could stab that wretched man in the back...!

The phoenix does a pretty good job at evading the dragon, a few scratches here and there, and uses its talons to defend itself.

Shadows would be a good cover if Archer wasn't actively using cognitive to keep a track of where her (noisy) mind was. In fact, he tries to continue using said magic to purposely make her think he was somewhere other than he was so he could sneak behind her back and try and knock her out.

There had to be something else he was using to track her, she was convinced of that. Time for a change of tactic-

She realised the impact was coming a moment before it hit, winding her and sending a sting through her back before she could fully pull away. But she'd avoided a critical wound, that was enough.

The cloak of dark energy around her dissolved into a mist as she sent more curses Archer's way. If she could cause him enough pain to get some distance, she could lead him deeper into the woodland.

And it was there, she'd laid out traps with magic circles.

The curses hit and Archer flinches and this time he actually yells a bit because of it. Well, it's not like there's a point in hiding where he is and it was a bit too sudden for him to prepare.

Dark magic really was dangerous. And very fitting for someone like Caster, Archer had to admit. The wasn't much he could do to defend against it.

She positioned herself carefully amongst the magic circles she'd concealed in the trees and on the ground- each ready to bind him with shadow if he came close.

Caster heard that pain in his voice, and a smirk twisted her features. If she could make him suffer. Make him feel a fraction of the pain he did...!

"Does it hurt, Archer?"

Archer huffs. It does hurt, but what is admitting anything. "Not really. I've felt worse."

He knows it's probably a bad idea to follow her even deeper into the woods but he has little to no choice if he wants to knock her out to calm her down. So he does.

"It looks like I'll have to make you suffer more then, won't I?"

As he got close, she charged power into her traps- with the darkness clouding around, hopefully the magic circles were concealed enough that he'd step on one, unleashing painful dark spikes.

"I mean, that's your point, isn't it? Making me suffer."

Before killing him off that is. Archer is unfortunate and doesn't see a circle before he lands on one. The pain is very bad and Archer lets out a very loud yell as the spikes hit him. Thanks for that, Caster.

"Of course it is- hahahaha!!"

Of course, Archer yelling only made her laugh, her voice echoing with the twisted sadism of a woman completely consumed by revenge- well, and probably some regular old sadism in there too.

She had to try and get around him whilst he was occupied...!
