Here And Now With All Dreams Realised || December Catchall
Who: Kei and OPEN
What: Quests and adjusting to the new world
When: Throughout December
Where: Various locations
Warnings: None
[ 1. Not Quite Acceptible Living Conditions ]
Living here, or rather being suddenly pulled here to live isn't much of a problem... initially. The atmosphere is simple, but pretty. And, well, knowing his timeline is frozen back home brings him probably more peace of mind than it should. And even better bonding to his pretty familiar and learning he now has healing magic. It's almost, almost some sort of dream come true, really. Here, he doesn't have to be Cristo, and he doesn't have to worry about Kamuro wreaking havoc with the timeline frozen. Even if it means being away from Aoki and Towa for who-knows-how-long.
All of that is not a problem.
The problem is the kitchen provided. A microwave? While convenient, it's not a sufficient cooking space, or option. Nope. He likes to cook, and he needs an actual kitchen. But if he can't afford a new apartment yet, what will he do? Definitely save up for one. But until then... he's not so sure he's satisfied with just a microwave.
So, while his first is definitely breakfast, which he thankfully makes it to the continental breakfast in time, so he doesn't have to worry about his first meal of the day. After he rounds himself up a plate, he tries to find a place to sit, preferably with someone who looks like they've probably been here longer than he has. (Not that there's any for-sure way of telling.) He sidles up to your table with a smile.
"May I sit here? My name's Kei, by the way."
He's hoping to both make friends and get some hopeful answers.
[ 2. Quest - Snow Villas ]
This quest sounded nice, and Kei is absolutely looking forward to it. He gathers some stray brush of pine-needle and holly branches in the hopes of being able to use as accessories to his snow sculpture. He's modeling it after his familiar, and it vaguely resembles the fox-like form of them. It's certainly not perfect, by any means, but... he's pretty sure you can almost tell what (or who) it's supposed to be. His familiar rests nearby, so he has the reference.
When he's mostly satisfied with the snow part, he moves on to postioning the branches into the wings and other feathers, and even taking some of the berries from the branches to accentuate some of the speckles that the Simurgh has. He looks at them often, trying his best to get the placement just right. But... he's not sure it looks close enough to the creature before him. He'd like very much to do their form justice.
With a thoughtful hum, he glances over at you.
"Hey, what do you think so far? I feel like I don't have it quite right."
[ 3. Quest - Foraged and Found ]
Kei could really get used to this. There are so many things he can do without having to hurt others. And this quest seems sincere enough that he's eagerly volunteers. He'll take tasks like this any day of the week, please. And it seems like a wonderfully, charming way to get the know the area and the scenery.
He gets himself ready and plops into the sleigh beside you. "I'm really looking forward to this. Aren't you?" He gives you a bright smile. "I wonder what we'll get to see."
He'll make sure you're settled in properly, first, and ask if you're ready. And after that...
"Hold on tight, I don't know how fast it'll go."
Thankful, of course, that Rent-A-Ride was so willing to provide it for free this time. And then he tells it to go. Much to his surprise and pleasure, the ride is smooth and easy. He could definitely get used to this. He tries to keep an eye out, particularly his uncovered one (ha), for the materials they need. But you keeping a second eye wouldn't hurt.
[ 4. Wildcard ]
((OOC: The Choose Your Own Adventure option. Kei's new here. But he's going to find a job pretty much right away - I want him to work as a Tavern Server. As I've stated in his OOC intro, he's pretty much the doormat mum type and loves being able to help others. He's proficient in martial arts (though it will be brought down a few levels here, since some if it is due to his species), so if he gets in a tight spot, he can and will fight his way out. He lost his eye (the one uncovered) in a fight with a monster and it came back blue. He covers his original eye with a medical eyepatch. If you have any ideas you want to play out, feel free to ping me on this account, or hit me up at
Tseil. Discord available upon request, but I don't usually do anything on there. Don't be afraid to ask for things, I'm pretty easy to work with!))

Kaiba is dealing with similar frustrations. There's a dragon rolling in the snow in front of him, and she's having a grand old time trying to defy his attempts at sculpting the perfect snow dragon. He exhales, watching as his breath fogs. Too cold.
no subject
"I think they're wonderful. I've never seen anything like them. Or yours, either."
And he can't help but chuckle at the playfully-defiant dragon.
"Do you plan to decorate yours with anything? I'd be happy to help you find materials if you don't have them yet."
no subject
As if in response, she flares her wings out and huffs and puffs. It's cute. But he has to hide the smile and keep working.
"I don't have anything yet, so I'm up for suggestions. What's working best with yours."
no subject
Kei looks thoughtfully between the dragon and the sculpture.
"Well, I've been using branches for mine. But mine has feathers. Yours definitely has scales."
But what could they use to make that effect? Supplies seem to be a little different here than back home.
"I don't suppose they have a beach here? Maybe there's some sea glass. That might be out of the way, though. Maybe we should go shopping instead?"
no subject
He sees a few bits of it, and arranges it to approximate the fins on the sides of her head.
"I've had enough of polar bear plunges for a while."
Today I learned what a polar bear plunge is, lol.
He watches Kaiba set up the fins on the sides of the head and gives an approving smile.
"It looks great. I'll go grab you some more bark."
He scuttles off for just a moment, and is back within minutes with some more handfuls of bark and even brings back some pinecones.
"I found some of these, too. Maybe it'll help add a bit of scales for texture."
He holds them out to Kaiba.

Strangely, as he works, his familiar finally seems to settle.
"Thanks---think I might have something salvageable. How's yours?"

The woman sitting in the sleigh beside him was...well, the long dark cloak that covered most of her figure and half her face certainly did not look the most obvious candidate for either a magical sleigh ride or a friendly mission to collect items for the festivities.
At the very least, though, Caster seemed to be going along with this peaceably. She hoped she could find something to use for ritual components or potions, and could do without making any more enemies than the ones she already knew about.
And as her companion gave the word, the sleigh was off! This was...surprisingly pleasant, actually.
"...Impressive," she muttered, before starting to look around for any of the items they'd been sent to find.
no subject
But he's also not one to unnecessarily pry. So he won't ask her too many questions. A peaceful sleigh ride seems nice, anyway. And it seems to start snowing as they travel further into the forest.
Kei's mostly looking for logs and branches, but he also won't mind if she makes the sleigh stop for anything else she finds.
Kei, on the other hand, gets momentarily distracted by the snowflakes.
"It's really something," he says with a sense of wonder.
no subject
From what she could tell, he seemed an overly generous sort, perhaps a little too kind for his own good. But that was fine by her.
"It has been a little while." After watching him a moment, she held out a gloved hand, watching the flakes land on the dark fabric and slowly melt away into nothing. When was the last time she'd stopped and looked at the scenery like this?
"...What should I call you?"
no subject
Oh, right, introductions.
"I'm Kei," he answers with a smile. "It's nice to meet you."
He won't ask for her name if she doesn't want to give it. But he figures there's also a certain amount of etiquette that if you ask for a name, you usually give yours in return.
"Have you done this before?" The hunt for supplies in a winter wonderland, he means.
no subject
"Kei, hm? Caster. A pleasure," Not her real name, of course, but Caster doubted she would be giving anyone that for a while. That was the way it was for Servants like her - revealing one's true name was telling others your life story, powers and weaknesses, after all.
"I've gathered ritual components before, but not quite like this... have you? What made you decide to get involved?"
