Nine to Five
Most days Izzy can be found in a variety of cafes and shops, the ones that like a little ambiance they can use to excuse the extra gold for your coffee or sandwich, she's brushed her hair into something almost respectable, wearing either a long summer dress or a suit, playing her violin to help set the mood.Eye of the Tiger
Using a mix of classical music, and 90s hits to draw from. Which she figures nobody will notice she's playing provided she plays them in a kind atmospheric way. She's no expert by any means, but she's more than talented enough to make some coin playing in local eateries when they pay her. So you can request a song and see if she knows it, or ask her what she's doing with her life when she's on a break.
Or think she's a waitress and demand to know where your food is, she has no idea but she looks like she might be serving staff.
Izzy's made a few strides in her training of her magic. The first and most important was the need for music. At least for now, the magic came easier when she timed it to the music she was listening to. It made sense, she accidentally lifted objects when she played. And at the strongest parts on classical pieces she'd gotten chairs and tables off the ground.Material Girl
So here she was, in the training grounds, flicking her fingers at rocks. And the rocks did jump, or roll, when she pushed at them with her fingers. They were three feet away, so... progress. It still didn't feel quite right, like she was missing something. In any event, with her earbuds in and music blaring she will not notice anyone around her. Sneak up on this small child and maybe teach her a thing or two.
Her clothes that she arrived in weren't the greatest. She arrived in the clothes she wore to bed, before everything went to shit. So... now that she had some coin, she figured she could use some new clothes.
Like- she didn't know how expensive stuff was, but it would be hers she'd pick them, nothing picked because she'd look 'just so cute' in it. No fucking tartan. Crop tops, shorts, leather, all the things her mother forbid her wearing under 'her roof.' So this child is trying to find clothes that are really her...
And second guessing every choice, because she's never had this freedom before. Please help her.

Closed to Kaoru and Shiho
But still terrifying, because what if- well, history repeats. She let April break her heart twice and never learned. How will making new friends be any different? Other than not getting caught making out with them, she'd never make that mistake again. Still, she sat dressed as much like herself she could muster. Baggy pants, crop top, cute jacket. And waited for the other girls to show.
Honestly terrified.

She's just the sort of person who enjoyed people's company, who liked making friends. (And if she's betrayed...well. They'll cross that bridge if they get there.)
Kaoru's own style usually leans more towards sporty-cute. Also short skirts or short-shorts. If it's not dead of winter then she's probably wearing something short.
Her hair is as bright in real life as it appeared on video. But not as bright as her smile when she spotted Izzy and waved. "Hey!" The only reason no one is greeted with a flying tackle hug is because she doesn't know if she can do that without accidentally hurting someone without her psychokinesis...but also because she's pulling Shiho by the hand.
"Sorry, I hope we didn't make you wait." They probably did a little but it wasn't on purpose (this time, they weren't actually trying to be fashionably late, after all).
no subject
She's a little out of breath though once they come to a stop as she tucks a strand of curly hair behind her ear, hanging back behind Kaoru to better assess the situation.
It's not because she has a hard time with being friendly with strangers or anything, definitely not. (Or so she'll say.)
no subject
She did her best to school her expression, keep it 'cool.' Not give away she's nervous. She wasn't the best at it, but it was all she could do. It helped that Kaoru was just as excited and expressive as on the network. And Shiho... didn't seem to be judging her. She didn't feel at a disadvantage.
"Um, I'm Izzy. It's nice to meet you." That was directed to Shiho, who she hadn't met even online. Good place to start. She's managed to not swear once yet.
no subject
Then she leans in a little and says in sort of stage whisper. "Shiho's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet...but she's a little shy so she might not show it right away."
She says this knowing that Shiho would be a little embarrassed but not actually mad. The benefits of knowing someone since you were both small children.
no subject
Tightening her arm around Kaoru's, she makes an attempt to pull her back and stop her from being embarrassing.
"Who's shy?!"
But with that said she will give Izzy a bit of a smile in the hopes that she'll forget ever hearing anything Kaoru just said, "I'm Shiho, it's nice to meet you. I'm sorry for Kaoru, she likes to joke around."
no subject
But, the pair of them broke into the sort of exchange only true of good friends, and Izzy started laughing at it. She and April could get like that, back when. It was very disarming. "Well, I like nice girls and girls that joke around. So I think this is working out. Are you two from the same world, or did you get like this here?"
no subject
Thankfully there is no bar here. Even when Shiho had judo thrown her on first meeting she had been cute. And cool.
Kaoru smile only becomes brighter at the laugh. "We grew up together! But it sounds like Shiho was here longer than I was."
no subject
At the very least their new roommate is smiling and that has Shiho turning a smile back to Izzy too, a little bit warmer, a little bit more relaxed.
"I wasn't here for that long. So, what was the plan going to be for today?"

at least her efforts to subtly work 90s songs in will go unnoticed as every song is all new to him. that's also why he never requests anything; he just drinks his water in a perfectly fine coffee shop and attempts to take in the atmosphere. if he can get away with it without upsetting management, he pulls a laser pistol out of one pocket and a sort of nail or tooth-like object from the other, slowly carving into it with the laser to pass the time.
at least he doesn't have either of those things in hand when he finally approaches during one of her breaks. ledo walks around in a spacesuit and with a military bearing all the time but at least when he's not scowling at things he looks more his age. he's only a few years older than izzy is, after all. ]
I wanted to know... what do you call this?
[ he's referring to her violin, but they don't have those in space. ]
When you choose what sounds to make, is there a purpose? Does it have a meaning?
[ he doesn't think anything at all of asking these kinds of almost philosophical sounding questions because she seems perfectly mature as far as he can tell and children learn to grow up very fast where he's from. this is how you come to understand music as a concept, right? ]
no subject
You mean music? It's- art, of course it has a meaning.
[She's definitely putting this in the top five weirdness of this place for the moment.]
no subject
I see. In the Galactic Alliance, there is no such thing as "art" so I am trying to understand the... advantage.
[ he struggles to find a suitable word and seems to just land on the first thing he can think of. why does anybody do anything if not for an advantage? ]
no subject
That's a real fucked up world you're from.
[Nailed it.]
no subject
[ bet she didn't expect to have to explain 'fucked up' to someone today. ]
There are many things that do not exist in the Galactic Alliance. If it does not contribute to eliminating the enemy, then it is unnecessary. Resources are very limited in space.
no subject
So your world is... just killing people and nothing else?
[She's honestly too shocked to be horrified... at first.]
Yes, everything you've just said is a bad thing.
no subject
[ this he says firmly, to be clear. what could be more of a just cause than survival? ]
But there is nothing else except to fight them, that is true.
no subject
I think somewhere along the way you lost whatever humanity was. You and your whole Galactic War.
[Without art, what truth was there? The fight? Nothing survives constant fighting. She barely survived and all she had was a mother that didn't love her. She couldn't imagine much humanity was left in a world without art.]
Art gets to the heart of what someone believes, what they feel is true, and challenges it. Your humanity is a fucking joke without art.
[Except the human belief of being better than someone else for bullshit reasons.]

Eye of the Tiger
So, he opted for something different - that was, skipping the rock she moved forward back towards her while hovering a little ways off to the side.
no subject
So she started looking around for anyone else who might have done that. Blonde, older than her, weird but- is that a tail? She'll just, ignore the tail for the moment and focus on the important part.
Nobody else was around who could be doing magic, "Kinetic too?"
no subject
He had still startled her, but not as badly as he could've which was a good thing. Taking a few steps closer, he looks at the rocks she has and where they are, and then looks back at her. Seems like everyone with kinetic magic went with rocks, but when the other options were just themselves or another person, yeaah... rocks.
no subject
Something about the entire set-up, being here, fate of the world. Shouldn't she be better at this? She didn't need to save the world, she knew that she could just sit back and enjoy her freedom. But it felt wrong, not doing something. If she could.
And if she couldn't, why was she here. "You from one of the worlds where magic was already a thing?"
no subject
Placing his hands on his waist, his tail bounces around as he wonders about the earbuds again. Probably just trying to keep to herself. But hey, keeping to herself is no way to get help.
Blinking, he nods. "Yeah. What gave it away?"
no subject
"Nothing, I guessed." She figured most people knew better about this than her. But also he had a tail and that was weird. Like, sure, he could be from a normal world where people just had tails. But this felt like the right guess. Still, he had the same magic as her, he might be able to offer something, "How do you practice?"
It was that or ask about the tail and that felt invasive.
no subject
"Hehe, good guess!" At least she didn't think he was an 'Earthling'. And she wasn't question the tail - at least, not yet. Everyone tended to ask at least one eventually. "Me? Usually I have Moguo throw rocks at me."
One of those things probably on a list of 'don't actually try', but oh well.
no subject
She was willing to start trying extreme things if she thought they wouldn't just make her look stupid, or get her hurt. Which both felt probable here. "I can barely make them move, and even then I need to focus with music or I just- nothing."
She vaguely pushes her fingers at the rocks and, of course, nothing happens with them.
