β¦Snow Villas.
There.
[He mutters to himself as he looks over his handiwork.]
That should be big enough.
[Regis doesn't particularly share much fondness for arts or crafts but once he heard that the fairies were in need of some assistance, he didn't hesitate to help. While others are building snowmen and the likes for their diminutive guests, Regis is here forming these sparkling translucent ice bubbles upon the branches of nearby trees. He figures that the fairies would appreciate these spacious bubbles, especially since he made sure to make the inside hollow enough for the creatures to enter. While he's uncertain whether or not the fairies will use them, Regis can't help but admit that these lovely bubbles do add a hint of charm to icy landscape.
It's just a damn shame it's so cold out today. Regis can barely feel his fingers anymore despite his gloves. The winters in Avalon seem harsher than that of Lucis.]
β¦Who is Jack Bredbeddle?
[Now this is a curious matter, one that Regis isn't very enthused about. There's a young man venturing through town leaving chaos in his wake. He goes by the name of Jack Bredbeddle and judging from what the locals claim, there's more than one of him. News about this fiendish man reached Regis's ears shortly after returning from the woods. While this was surely a bounty meant for more experienced hunters, Regis couldn't help but take it in hopes of figuring out the mystery that is Jack Bredbeddle.
That's why he's holed up at a local tavern keeping an eye out for the wanted man. It's been a long time since Regis visited a bar like this. While he was never much of a drinker in his youth, Regis used to visit such places when he was on the road. Clarus and others would always find an excuse to pay Lestallum a visit, especially during the hazy summers. That was long before Regis became king and long before he lost his stomach for alcohol.
Nursing a glass of water as he waits for the man to appear, Regis pauses briefly once he spots someone fitting Jack's description lingering at the bar. It looked just like the man upon the wanted poster, except for his eyes. There were black as night with a tinge of red. Regis discreetly glances down at the image on his phone, his brow knitting a little confusion as he peeks over at the man.
Somethings not right here but Regis can't place his finger on it.]
β¦Ice Fishing.
[Fishing is something that Regis used to enjoy in leisure. Unlike his son who swears to be the 'God of Fishing", Regis is average at best. He can catch your occasional trout and seabass with relative ease but as for the more exotic fish, poor Regis never had much luck. However, he never allowed that to deter him in the past. For him, it's the tranquility that comes with this hobby that attracts him more than the promise of a free lunch. Even so, Regis cannot help but feel a bit frustrated that he hasn't been able to get a single bite today.
While the lake here isn't completely frozen as of yet, Regis couldn't help but lament his decision to come out here in the blistering cold to relive the days of his youth. It's cold out, even colder by the lake. There's not a single soul within miles. All that's here is the icy blue skies above and the snowy landscape around him. Regis sticks out like a sore thumb among all this white frost, his dark silhouette noticeable in the pale light.]

Snow Villas
He has no idea what in the world is going on and half doesn't want to believe what is going on, so for now he stands on the sidelines and watches the man form ice bubbles out of fuck all and wondering where the hell his life went wrong.
He'll come bother in a moment, unless addressed first, he just has to take a moment to wrap his mind around it. ]
alec's expression is an entire mood
You look as if you've seen better days.
[While he doesn't expect an answer, Regis hopes he can get the poor man to speak. After all, it would be rather awkward if he decided to cling to his silence.]
most of them are tbh Alec is the 2020 experience
No.
[a beat]
Maybe too long ago to count.
[but forget that. He folds his arms tightly for warmth and blinks red lined eyes]
Fairies? Really? Is there some LSD in the water or are ...are we all really here?
no subject
I can assure you, we're really here and these fairies are as real as you and I.
[The old king states with a faint smile.]
Tell me, are such wonders truly so uncommon?
no subject
I would have said no. Where I'm from, it's fantasy. The people who say they see fairies are usually a few short of a dozen. Now I don't know.
[he rubs his arms]
Did you come in knowing that...bubble thing?
no subject
[Regis says as he creates another one of those bubbles out of ice. The tips of his fingers glow with a bright blue light as he touches the pointy end of a nearby branch. The light suddenly transforms into a drop of water that keeps expanding until it becomes a translucent sphere. It's a fairly simple spell judging from the looks of it but a rather wasteful display of power despite Regis's altruistic goals.]
While I'm no stranger to magic, the sorcery of this realm differs greatly from my own.
[He admits with a hint of discontent in his tone.]
There's still much I need to learn.
no subject
[a pause and then]
Aren't you ever afraid of it? What it can do? What others can do? These are things that...people are just not meant to deal with.
no subject
[He answers truthfully as he creates another ice bubble within the palm of his gloved hands.]
It's logical to be somewhat afraid, isn't it?
[Just as he says that the icy bubble within his palm is suddenly engulfed in bright red flames. It will take a while before Regis has full mastery over the elements but he's doing rather well for himself.]
However, I refuse to let that fear hinder me.
no subject
Christ, he felt like he was in some children's fantasy.]
Right... not letting it hinder you. Good idea... [he dropped the snow and rubbed his hands together and looked around]
How... do you manage not to feel like an idiot for trying then... [this wasn't directed at him but he wouldn't mind an answer]
no subject
Fear not, I'm not on fire. [He states just seconds before quelling the flames with just a snap of his fingers.] Or rather I was but I was in no danger.
[He gives them a sympathetic glance at the next question, a little unsure how to answer.]
Trust me, you're no idiot. It takes a while to grow accustomed to the magic here.
no subject
[he looks around and then, feeling like an idiot, holds out his hand, palm up, towards the treeline]
Come on then. I won't hurt you.
[he's speaking to something above, though it might be hard to see. After a moment there is a flutter and a fat white snow bird comes to land in his palm, fluffing up and looking wary.
Alec is just going to have a moment and try to hide it. He's blinking a bit and swallowing convulsively. Then with a wry smirk and a rough voice]
Don't worry, I'm not going to break out in song.
no subject
Is that your familiar?
[He questions quietly as if not to disturb the little bird. The poor thing looks as if it's ready to bolt within a moment's notice.]
If not, then are you...some sort of beastmaster?
no subject
I've no idea. It's just something I felt I could do. It's--an odd sort of certainty isn't it?
no subject
That it is. [He admits with a chuckle as he watches with intrigue.] In all truth, I don't see how such a skill would be advantageous in combat unless you could possibly enthrall larger beasts.
[That's food for thought. Is this man able to enthrall a wolf or a bear? Regis somewhat wants to test that theory.]
Have you tried to summon your familiar? Perhaps they could offer some insight here.
no subject
Summon it... how would I even do that? Dance naked under the moon? [it's a joke, sort of. he doesn't want to know if it's real]
Ice Fishing
But he is startled to see a figure off on the frozen lake, and tilts his head curiously to trot along, carefully shifting over the ice. He's rather light and he knows how to manage his weight so he'd worried more about slipping than breaking through.
When he's finally close enough to realize what this figure is doing, he laughs and slides over to sit beside the man, ears wiggling playfully.
"I admire your persistence," he chirps, "Coming to fish all the way out here in this horrid cold." He too, loved to fish, so he could appreciate one braving the elements to catch a meal.
no subject
"I welcome the challenge that the cold brings." He replies with a hint of mirth in his tone. "Although, I'm certain I'll soon regret it all by the time evening comes," Regis mentions as he reels in his line in hopes of casting it again at another spot.
"Tell me, do you hail from Eorzea?" He asks in hopes of sparking conversation. "You're the second I've met that possesses such features."
no subject
"I'm Felih, by the way," he chirps, tail wiggling behind him playfully as he purrs. "It's nice to meet a fellow fisher."
no subject
"The pleasure is all mine, Felih." Regis says with a polite smile. "I'm Regis and it's always good to meet a fellow fisherman. I know that many don't find this hobby of ours to be quite exciting." He says as he casts his line towards another fishing spot. These blasted fish are smarter than they look. This is perhaps the second time he's lost his bait.
"Tell me about Eorzea. Megumi painted quite the picture when she described it to me but I'm curious to know more."
no subject
The sound of the man's name, though, makes Felih's ears shoot up as he turns his head back to look at him.
"Are you mayhaps King Regis?" he asks, curious as ever. "I met a man named Cor here. Quite the reliable man- and he speaks so very highly of his king." He grins, eyes shining with a bit of mischief. "And I'd be happy to tell you about Eorzea, though 'tis only one land among many in the realm."
no subject
"It would seem you have the right Caelum." Regis states with a chuckle as he gives Felih another smile. "I'm curious to know what the Marshal said about me but I'm also quite wary at the same time." While doesn't doubt Cor's intent most of the time, Regis knows the man has a mean streak.
"Oh, Eorzea is just one realm?" He questions with an arched brow. "Ah, I thought that was the name of your world."
no subject
"As for Eorzea, it is! There are many realms beyond- Ilsabard, Othard, Sharlayan, among others. Eorzea is comprised of a number of regions as well- like La Noscea, Thanalan, the Black Shroud, Coerthas, Dravania, Ala Mhigo..." He lists them off, counting on his fingers as he goes, before shrugging. "It's a wide world and I've only seen part of it! But I guarantee you I've fished everywhere I've gone."
"The name of our world... ah, some call it Hydaelyn, but lately we've taken to calling it the Source, in light of recent knowledge."
no subject
"Dravania?" That name sticks out to him for some reason. Maybe because of how closely it sounds like a variation of the word Draconian, which is none other than Bahamut himself. "Sounds like a den meant for dragons." He mutters as he ponders the word.
"This Eorzea sounds just as colorful Eos, if not a little bit more so." He admits with a faint chuckle. "Many nations rose and fell throughout the long years on Eos, many of which are nothing but ruins now." He mentions while trying his best not to look somewhat somber.
"I suppose it's the same for fair Lucis." He mentions offhandedly before giving the miqo'te his full attention again.
"The Source, eh? That's a lofty claim there."
no subject
"Dravania is named for its residents- as you guessed, dragons. From the high dragons of purer blood to the more beast-like descendants with thinned out blood, they roam all over Dravania and the Churning Mists. They're quite fascinating folk, the dragons, and they live for centuries upon centuries, if not thousands of years."
"Our history is rather interesting and storied, but I'm not the best historian," he admits with a laugh, before shaking his head. "As for 'the Source...' Well, long story short, it turns out that our world is merely the Source fragment of numerous shattered worlds, reflections of our own. Our world was one before a great Calamity split the world into fourteen shards- of which the Source is the heart."

Are you making Christmas ornaments?
[There is a thread of idle curiosity in his tone, a muted sort of pondering. It does not matter much in the end, whether he is or whether he isn't. But with so many from apparently different walks of life having been brought here, he does wonder whether, albeit briefly, whether this person might have a background in which Christmas is observed.]
no subject
I suppose you could say that.
[He answers as he glances at his handiwork. It took him a few hours to decorate most of the trees here but he managed to do just that with the aid of his familiar. Mentioning the thunderbird, Quetzalcoatl is curled up around his shoulders sound asleep once again. This overgrown lizard loves to nap. It's a good thing that the feathered-serpent isn't too heavy. Regis typically carries his familiar on his shoulders like an ornate shawl.]
In my realm, we celebrate a holiday that closely resembles that of Christmas. It's called "Starlight", and yes it's customary to decorate pine trees during the wintry months.
no subject
I've never heard of a holiday by that name. What is it about?
[His gaze is calm, but curious. The story behind Christmas features a star, but the old gent is likely talking about something else.]
no subject
The Starlight Festival is a time-honored tradition that celebrates the coming of the Winter Solstice. It's a time for merrymaking, gift-giving, and reflection.
[He states without adding too much needless information. The last thing he wants is to bore the young man with too many details. Regis knows he likes to talk but some people don't share his gift for gab.]
Back in the old days, the farmers of Duscae would celebrate Starlight to appease the gods in hopes of profitable yield in Spring.
no subject
[The name sounds completely unfamiliar to Walter. He doesn't even think he's seen it on a map. Then again, they'd been informed they were brought together from all manner of different worlds...]
Is that where you live?
β¦Ice Fishing with dad
he's holding a fishing rod in hand, and he blinks a little bit at seeing his father sitting out in the snow, line already cast. ]
... Didn't think I'd be having company in this weather.
[ he just. invites himself along, as you do. ]
no subject
Neither did I but I welcome you with open arms, Noct.
[He says with a chuckle as he gazes back at the tranquil lake. Despite his best efforts to reel in a catch, Regis is honestly enjoying the stillness of this gorgeous wintry morning.]
no subject
it's not as if noctis hasn't had work either. neither he nor his father have the literal wealth normally afforded to them, and money is a resource they both need to work on. ]
Like you'd tell me to buzz off anyway.
[ but there's a genuine, pleased smile on his face as he settles down near his father - not so close as to interfere with his catches, but close enough they can speak without having to yell and scare the fish. ]
Any luck so far?
no subject
[Regis admits with a deep sigh. It seems that the King of Lucis has lost his touch when it comes down to fishing. This is a shameful display but Regis is determined to keep trying.]
I'm half-tempted to blame the Lady of the Lake for my badluck.
[While he honestly doubts she has anything to do with his misfortunes this morning, Regis can't help but wonder if the mermaid would be cross with him for fishing. After all, this is her lake.]
Do you think it's in poor taste for us to fish here?
no subject
[ then again, no one told them not to get tricked by the kid in the square, so that theory only holds up so far.
he carefully applies his lure and casts it after a moment. ]
If you're gonna get cursed by her, we'll get cursed together, at least.
no subject
Spoken like a true Caelum.
[He comments as he watches Noctis cast his line. They haven't gone fishing together in years but for Regis, it feels like it was just yesterday that he taught Noctis how. It's amazing how the years fly by.]
Maybe if we're lucky, we could fish enough for lunch.
no subject
[ it's a gentle tease, from when he and his father could still leave insomnia's walls, before the marlith attack. it's just fish roasted over a fire, but he remembers his father telling him stories about going fishing with his friends.
he turns a little smile onto his father, feeling something grip tight around his heart. it's good to see his dad. alive. no longer bowing under the weight of holding up a wall and the bearing of royalty. ]
Especially since if I catch, you're definitely cooking.
no subject
[Judging from Regis's smile, he's planning just that. It's been a while since they've enjoyed an old-fashioned fish roast. All they need is a pinch of cajun seasoning, a dash of salt, some butter, and an open fire.
Now that's good eating.]
Oh? [He can't help but arch his brow at the playful challenge.] Let's make this a wager then.
[Regis draws back his line in order to change the lure. It seems that the fish around here aren't fond of his current lure. So maybe this spinnerbait lure would work better since it wiggles more than the plastic plugs.]
If you manage to catch more than me, I'll make my famous roasted fish. However, if I win--you get to cook.
[He casts his line again as he grins at Noctis.]
Deal?
no subject
after a moment he hums. ]
Deal. Loser cooks the fish, winner gets to enjoy the spoils. We'll call it in a couple hours, around lunchtime?
[ he doesn't want them to overfish - that's something his father taught him. while this edges into fishing for sport, they're certainly going to plan on eating - and they'll give the leftovers to their friends, if they catch a bunch. ]
no subject
Very well, Your Highness.
[Regis teases with a confident grin as he gives Noctis a mock bow. It seems that sarcasm runs deep within the Caelum bloodline. Noctis had to get his sense of humor from someone.]
Just be mindful that I prefer my fish nicely grilled with a hint of lemon zest.
no subject
What, telling me you don't want me to try to whip up a good old Kenny's special over the flames?
no subject
[Regis quickly says as if to dispel that thought sooner than it appeared. Despite how much he loves his son, he doesn't wish to end up suffering heartburn because he dared to let Noctis do all the cooking.]
I doubt my heart or my stomach would be able to take it.
[He says with a chuckle.]
Besides, I want a decent meal, Noctis. Not whatever the fresh hell that accursed crow sells.
no subject
[ he sounds a big smug despite himself; he's truly his father's son, at least in terms of the amount of confidence he can project.
but he does laugh softly, after a moment. ]
Yeah, that diner's cooking isn't as good as Ignis' or Takka's. Or even yours.
no subject
The fact you prefer my cooking to that surprises me--
[He trails off suddenly once something starts tugging at his line. It seems that Regis just scored a trout.]
You better get to work, Your Highness! The fish are biting.
no subject
[ noctis shuts up, though, when his father starts reeling something in. he gives him a little smirk. ]
Biting - but will you be able to reel him in?
[ he doesn't try to mess with his father's concentration as he does so, though. instead he focuses on dragging his lure along the surface so maybe he can attract another trout - or something bigger. ]
no subject
[Regis quickly replies once he starts reeling his line. It takes a moment for him to find the right stride but eventually, Regis manages to reel the fish without much fuss. While its a fairly large red-bellied freshwater trout that's oddly reminiscent of a redfin pickerel. It has an ugly face but the fish doesn't look sickly or damaged. It's the perfect catch.]
Take a look at this, Noct!
[He says triumphantly as he holds out the trout proudly with a grin. It's been a long time since Regis got the chance to fish like this. So of course he's feeling a little proud of himself.]
The first big catch of the day.
