(open) April Catch All
🧙 WHO: Chang Geng/Li Min and YOU!
⚔️️ WHAT: Quests and April stuff
🕒 WHEN: Throughout April
🗺️ WHERE: Around?
⚠️ WARNINGS: Spiders and lack of self-care.
i: Vital Venoms
[Chang Geng was standing outside of the caves, looking thoughtful. There's a sword at his hip but he's now keeping his dagger closer at hand rather than tucked away.]
Rather than bringing the spider back, I think it would be better to let it bite me at the last minute and simply dispatch it.
[He has blood magic and healing magic, he could probably carry the venom back safely. Probably.
He is far too calm while making this suggestion.]
ii: The Labyrinth
[He had been a little more cautious about taking on combat quests before when his only magic had been healing. After all, many things were weak only to magic here. Still, things were a little different now, weren't they?
He flicks his wrist, sending the tendril of blood like a whip and takes out a slime. He senses something come up to him and turns, when he sees a person and not another monster he smiles a little.]
You are also here for the quest, I presume?
[He's not in a hurry to heal the cut on the back of his hand for the moment as he moves to where the slime had been to collect a sample of what was left.]

orangeCrates if there's something in particular you wanted to do!]

I am grateful for your advice. [It was something he'd been considering as well.
Once their samples have been collected, he slowly moves back from the direction the insect creature was in.] I have also been considering the ways I can blend blood magic with healing magic as well.

[Thrawn was no doctor, but he did have some basic first aid training. If Li Min could make a whip or bladed weapon with his own blood, then what was to say he couldn't do the things Thrawn suggested as well?
When they got to another fork in the labyrinth, Thrawn summons a tiny ball of light and flicks it down one of the hallways they haven't been down yet. The light goes flying in that direction, lighting up the hall as it goes, until it vanishes. It seems to be clear.]

[Though his first order of business involved blood transfusions.] Though at first glance it seems to be a disturbing sort of power it has a lot of versatility.
He watches what Thrawn does with interest.]
Are you able to adjust the brightness of that sort of magic?
no subject
[He summons another tiny ball of light, this one as dim as a light bulb that's about to burn out. It gets slightly brighter, as if it's on a dimmer switch, before he lets it vanish.]
I can also create a flash of light bright enough to temporarily blind people and monsters with eyes.
[Waving Li Min along, Thrawn goes down the path, keeping his ears open for skittering of insects or sloshing of slimes.]
no subject
[How useful.
He nods and follows, every few steps slowing a little as he felt around for any blood around them.]
Against creatures that fear light it would be especially useful.
no subject
[It can also be advantageous for monsters that have adapted to life without sight, because he can create a light source and they won't see it, allowing one to sneak past. Or he can use magic to fool their other senses.]
I think I see a trail of slime. It may lead us to the last of the samples that we need.
no subject
I can't sense any blood in that direction. If we're lucky, all we will find there will be slimes.
no subject
[Drawing his pistol again, Thrawn follows the trail. Truthfully, even without casting light magic, his eyes seem to glow even brighter in the darkness. Perhaps he should invest in some kind of glasses to hide the glow for quests such as these.
Peeking around the corner, he spots a pair of slimes. He keeps his voice low, holding up a pair of fingers.]
There are only two of them that I can see.
no subject
[There also didn't seem to be anything else in the area, which is just perfect.]
I can't sense anything else in the area. We can probably just go ahead and attack, unless they are far enough to run away if they become frightened?
[Because he's not in a good position to look around the corner so he has to ask.]
no subject
If we strike quickly, they will not escape. On the count of three.
[Thrawn counted down from three, then sprang out from around the corner and blasted the slime that was slightly farther away, allowing Li Min to take the closer one, since Thrawn had the ranged weapon.]
Sorry for the late reply. Work ate me alive for a while there.
At the signal, he followed afterwards taking a second to gauge where the slime was before he flicked his wrist, sending the tendril of blood out to take out the remaining slime.
Afterwards, the blood retracted to curl around his hand.]
If only other things in this labyrinth could be so easy to deal with.
It happens
[Though skill often doesn't take into account unforeseen circumstances, such as luck or wild cards brought onto the battlefield. A warrior cannot prepare for every occasion. Still, Thrawn's statement is meant to be encouraging, his way of saying that one day his quest partner may be skilled enough one day to fight the tougher monsters that live down here.
He gathers up the final sample from the slime that he killed, making five vials in all. Thrawn brings up his device and the map he has been making along the way.]
Shall we return to turn in our samples?
no subject
That is true.
[It's all about practise and becoming more proficient. He sounds as calm as he had earlier. He gathers his own sample as well, then he nods.]
Let's go.
