🧙 WHO: Homura and YOU
⚔️️ WHAT: Training, Questing, and Fighting a doppleganger
🕒 WHEN: All of April
🗺️ WHERE: All over the place
⚠️ WARNINGS: cw: blood and fighting in doppleganger fight
Training Grounds:
With the job fair over (and back to fighting shape), Homura was once again back to training. Fire seemed to be good enough for her usual stuff. Always room to improve of course. But after a certain fight with a blonde swordsman, she needed to keep up with certain elements. Ice could wait. The wind needed to bend to her call. Which is why against a set of dolls, one would find her bouncing about in rapid succession, using the wind to grant boosts of speed.
It wasn't just about hitting the dolls though. Some were close together, weapons even stuck onto them. The idea was more than simply offense. She wanted to move like she used to, really catch her foes off guard and take advantage of weaknesses in their guard. Surprisingly, even as the dolls shook and nearly fell, Homura still moved rather gracefully. By the time she landed, there was really only a few scratches on her arms. Light sure, but she sighed, turning around.
"Alright, gotta do this again. Tsumuji, make it harder!"
The snake appeared from the middle of the dolls, hissing and tilting her head. Homura just sighed. "No, I haven't lost a lot of blood this time. I know when to train with it."
No repeats of that particular incident. Ever.
Skating in the rain:
April being April, some training days had to be adjusted. Like hell it would stop Homura though. In fact, this helped give her an idea. If one headed outside, they could find Homura actually using the ice to slide across the ground. Tempting as it was to do this in the town, maybe give her blood magic some training too, well puddles were a thing. Besides, some private training worked better. She sadly couldn't do what Yumi did, just generating ice to move on without moving her legs. Instead, she literally formed skates, ice briefly forming for a split second to help kick off the ground. She seemed to be doing rather well over the few days, skating with the utmost of ease through forests and other terrain, making sharp corners and improving her reaction speed.
Though with all these trees...well who was to say someone would suddenly appear when she least wanted them to?
Fake Homura - locked to
whatsamada
Having been touched by the vines and escaping, Homura thought nothing really bad would happen. That was until she saw herself in the city just walking around. By the time the two locked eyes, the clone giving a cruel, twisted smile. A fight broke out not long afterwards, the two bouncing around, using their learned magic against each other to score some good hits in. Their fight dragged outside the city, the real Homura trying and succeeding in luring the fake away.
However, the fake just smirked. "Not a bad plan. I can't make you weak in the knees with your messed up morality. But no one's around to hold your hand either."
The real Homura smirked right back. "Come on, you're supposed to be me! You know I don't like sharing the fun in a personal fight!"
The doppleganger chuckled, rising into a bit of laughter. "Oh, you think we're exactly the same? No, I'm better. I'm stronger. And best of all..." She holds out a familiar nodachi with a red sheathe. "I'm worthy!"
Homura turned pale, watching as the clone easily drew Engetsuka from it's sheathe. All this time, she couldn't draw it. Yet this being--no, it's just a fake, like all those other swords. The real Engetsuka was on her back after all. Not like this clone could transform--
And she was proven wrong, fire furiously erupting around the doppleganger. By the time it was done, all of the flames focused back onto the sword. Fake or not, this clone was harnessing a great amount of magic. And with a swing of the fake sword, Homura was blasted away by a blade beam of fire, rolling on the ground and clutching her chest. Slowly, she rose back up while growling, glaring at the fake. May not have been the real deal, but that still hurt a lot. Even faster than she expected. Yet nothing did as much damage as the mockery of this image. Some murderous fake wielding a sword, one which could only be drawn when she realized what she wanted to fight for. Took her back to the days she thought her friends were presumed gone, dead because of some asshole she followed.
And she never felt more pissed off while in this world.

Looking from a distance, he recognized the girl from before. "Hey, isn't that...?" He mumbled to himself before his grip tighten around his spear. Although, before he could do anything, that's when Koromaru ran forward before attempting to headbutt the clone on the legs. Hoping that the clone would stumble, that's when he started barking before Ken threw his spear at her.
Maybe that way, the real Homura could make her move. "Homura-san!" He shouted before making his way toward the both of them.
no subject
Propelled by wind magic, Homura managed to get in a good punch against her clone, knocking her back a decent distance. The spear dropped, she picked it up and threw it back at Ken from the side to take it back. Rather than looking happy, she seemed more pissed off.
"Get yourself and your dog out of here, right now! She's too dangerous for you!"
The fake suddenly dashed in, forcing Homura to bring her swords back up. The sheer strength though pushed the real Homura back, the sheer heat making things hard to breath. Yet escape was hard with how much pressure was being applied, knees nearly buckling. She assumed this fake was funneling all her magic into the sword, her own fire magic being overpowered at this rate.
no subject
At the same time, as Ken caught the spear, he shook his head. While he knew it was dangerous, it seemed to be too late for him to back down. "What about you? Don't think you think you might need a helping hand?" He said before looking around for any creatures nearby that could help.
Giving a whistle, he managed to get some rabbit nearby. As copied Koromaru's actions, they were hoping to distract the clone before Ken ran from behind. Knowing that he couldn't overpower her, he needed some time to figure out how to transform into an animal and fast.
no subject
That hurt a lot more than she figured it would, still feeling the flames poke and stab at her back. Regardless of the limited magic she used, her foe had perfect control of fire so long as she held onto the fake Engetsuka. Had to think of a plan to end this.
The distraction of the rabbits helped in getting Homura the time she needed to rise back up. Though the clone already seemed to get the picture, jumping back and spinning around, intending to slam the burning blade onto Ken from above.
"That trick only works so many damn times!"
no subject
Although with the burning blade from up above, he didn't have time to think about anything. Realizing that there wasn't much else he could do, he placed his spear sideways up in the air in hopes that he would be able to withstand some of the force.
He might be badly injured from this but he already knew what he was getting himself into.
cw: blood and burns
A familiar scene played out in Homura's head as she watched Ken struggle, that of a outmatched warrior going against a monster. Regardless of Homura's insistence on running, the other girl wouldn't. And in the end, she was struck down so casually, with no remorse, all to his grin. Now someone was taking a copy of her sword, and about to strike down a kid. Everything felt like it was in slow-motion, watching the blade rise into the air. There was only one thing Homura could do.
She used the strongest of winds she could to push forward, intending to knock Ken back, give him some room to dodge. Unfortunately, she wasn't fast enough to dodge the blow herself. The searing edge of the fake Engetsuka cut against her back, eyes widening at the heat and sharpness of the blow. The real Homura fell down to her knees before suddenly falling onto the ground on her stomach, seemingly no life behind those eyes, not helped with a burnt back with a large gash on it.
The clone however didn't look happy, sighing. "I wanted to win, but shit like this takes the fun out the fight. So if you are me, get your ass back the hell up!"
She prepared to kick the already down Homura now, raising her foot and even lighting it on fire to do so.
no subject
Wincing from the pain, he got to his knees when he realized what had happened. As he widen his eyes, he found himself in shock. Did Homura just do what he thought she just did? Suddenly, the image of a certain someone flashed into his mind. To think, he was powerless once again to do anything as he saw the clone getting ready to attack.
"Homura-san!" He shouted before attempting to jump forward to the clone. At this point, he knew that he should be thinking with his head but he wasn't. In a fit of rage, he gave out a loud growl before transforming into a lion. Once he did so, he tried to jump on her in hopes of tackling the clone to the ground.
no subject
"About time you at least got serious! Now bring it on!"
Meanwhile, the real Homura, though stunned from the pain, slowly twitched, the blood once pouring from the wound solidifying.
no subject
"Are you alright?" He said trying not to let the pain from his injury show. Looking at the ground, he couldn't help but give her a worried look.
"We need to leave at once if this is too much!"
no subject
By the time Homura's senses returned, lifting her head at Ken's voice, eyes widened at the flames heading their way. From one hell to another. "LOOK OUT!"
training grounds
"Is that snake your training partner?"
No shade here, only honest curiosity. She knows plenty of people here can talk to animals, but this isn't quite what she'd envisioned.
Re: training grounds
"Kinda, yeah. Tsumuji is my familiar and I don't have many people on call to train with."
Everyone seemed far more busy than her, trying to live a new life and whatnot. Homura on the other hand lived for only two things: fighting and making money, which usually involved fighting anyway.
no subject
"I suppose a familiar would be especially useful in situations like these. Seeing as they're linked to us, they must have a better idea of what we might benefit from than most." Her own familiar, Bella, has little to no interest in such things, unfortunately, though they have plenty of other interests in common.
"It seems to be working well for you."
no subject
Learning though was difficult depending on the fighting style. Summoning alone would leave the person vulnerable. Hanzo seemed to balance it out somewhat better than most schools, but their win-lose ratio spoke for itself. Asuka and Yumi even seemed to abandon the idea.
Oh right, intros. Kept forgetting those.
"Anyway, name's Homura. What's yours?"
no subject
She seems to be quite at ease within the training grounds, at least.
"I'm here most days, I'm surprised we haven't run into one another before now." Perhaps she had simply been too preoccupied with her own training to notice, but it's good to see other people putting the facility to use. Resources are not to be squandered, and Jade has always been dedicated to daily training.
no subject
spend a lot of my time here and outside to regain my old power."
Which was easier said than done.
"I guess since I mostly keep to myself, we never really talked until now."
no subject
Magic may have plenty of utility, but she still wants to be able to hold her own with or without a weapon if it comes down to it.
"What are you working on?"
no subject
Apart from throwing herself headfirst into danger, which would normally not be much, but well, still needed to fine-tune these abilities.
"I'd offer some help in building better training areas, but I'm not nearly rich enough to fund that shit. That and it's more Haruka's specialty with building stuff."
no subject
"What sort of changes were you thinking? You might be able to supplement what your routine currently lacks in another way."
no subject
Saying that, she gets into a stance, feet spread as one arm stretched out, the other fist closed and by her side. The aura of fire radiated around her, rising just as she smirked.
"So how about it? When I know there's someone strong around, I can't help but wanna take them on!"
The Labyrinth - locked to Ochako
Homura had expected something a bit more...well something a little easier on the nose. Maybe one could find the benefit from less blood in the air, though no doubt this place carried it given the monsters. Speaking of blood, even sensing other monsters had been difficult here. Just had to rely on the regular senses, see and hear what moved in the shadows. Speaking of which--
"Might wanna step back."
Homura sensed it right there, stepping forward and stabbing the ceiling. The rather large roach that was crawling ceased its movement, leaving Homura to pull it back to her level, and swiftly sliced it up with her free sword. By the time there were bug chunks on the ground, she looked back at her teammate.
"You're not squeamish around bugs, are you? Forgot to ask."
1/2
Just as she's about to round on whatever is behind her, sensing the presence there as well, it's done and dead and squelching loudly and twitching its many legs and hissing and ohgodwhatisthatyellowpussoozingout--
2/2
Ochako smack her hands over her mouth, feeling something sour race to the back of her throat suddenly, but she forces it back down. So much for no puke.
Re: 2/2
"Okay, making a note of that... My bad." Though just how many large bugs were there in this place?
no subject
"S-Sorry, I'm usually better at holding it back but...urgh, that was really gross. I don't like bugs, let alone big bugs!" After what Kouda did to Present Mic? Ochako has reason to be afraid of them. That shit her poor sensei endured was the thing of nightmares. "I-I can still squash them, though!!"
Oh god I remember that episode of MHA and am laughing my ass off XD
"Alright, but if you see anymore, just tell me and I'll chop and burn them up." Just because she admired the bravery didn't mean she fully grasped the context of phrasing. "You'll at least be good around the slimes and whatever else is here, right? Just wanna make sure."
Before she accidentally propped it up on her sword for Uraka to see, again. Then again, not like ghosts really existed in this world to truly cause panic.
....right?
IT'S ONE OF MY FAVS.
Which are very much real in this world, and Ochako is never, ever, setting foot into Loch Manor ever, ever again.
Ah, but...woof, that phrasing. A bit on the condescending side, though the brunette kind of gets it. She's not exactly shown herself to be a tough warrior just now or anything. But, she huffs a bit, indignantly puffing up her pink cheeks. "I-I can still fight!! They're just icky, and I don't like how they crunch, but I can fight whatever's in here - not just the slimes!"
Even if the slimes would be easier for her. "If the request asks for extermination of whatever's in here, I'm going to follow through with it!! That's the duty of a hero."
no subject
"What do you mean by hero?" Homura's curiosity was getting the better of her now.
no subject
"Superhero. People back in my world are born with or develop quirks - superpowers or metahuman abilities - that allow them to do what was once thought impossible. Because of that, becoming a professional hero, or Pro Hero, became more an occupation than something people just read about in comics and stuff."
There's a whole hell of a lot more to it than just that, but that's the gist, basically. Ochako would explain more, but she can hear something coming from up ahead, and readies her hammer, swinging it hard as a glob of slime falls toward her and Homura from the ceiling. It squishes and splatters disgustingly, and Ochako wrinkles her nose with a frown. Gross...
no subject
Though discussion seemed to be cut as the slimes started to swarm the area. Action, good! As Uraka slammed one dead, Homura ran forward, jumping and spinning her body with both swords out. Each slime she dance through was sliced up, the good decorating the walls as she struck them. Three down so far. Though more began to surround her.
"Kinda sounds like my world, though we gotta stick to shadows," Homura spoke during the fight, slicing through one and getting out of the circle of monsters. As she fled a bit away, she launched a beam of fire, cutting off the group of slime from advancing. "Not really sure you could call us heroes though. Situation is a bit more complicated."
Especially as she didn't side with the "good" and "evil" within her world.
no subject
But a conversation the two will have once this is all over, indeed. There were so many of these things now that holding a conversation was a bit difficult. Ochako huffed, noticing just how many were converging on her, and pivoted herself on her heel, spinning around like a top while smashing the group coming at her. Still, though, there seemed like there was no end to them and--
"W-Wait!!" Flexing her legs, Ochako jumped up and began to float in the air, to get a bit of a vantage point and avoid most of these slimes. She also wanted to see--...yes. Her hunch was right. "Don't cut them!! They're just multiplying from the pieces!!!"
It's like cutting into jello. One then makes two, and so on, like pieces. It looked like they need to be crushed or...that. Burned. Burning definitely seems effective, though Ochako's not exactly keen on starting fires in a library. Though...that does give her an idea! Holding out her hand, the tips of her fingers glow a soft pink, and five large and heavy books begin to glow as well, jiggling from their places on the shelves before launching themselves at more of the slimes, smashing into them and splattering their sludge all over the cover and binding. Ew...hopefully that'll not destroy the books, erm...
"Be careful not to set the books on fire, it'd be real bad if this place fills with smoke!"
no subject
She sheathed her swords, left to just punch slimes as her hands ignited with flames. Not much of a choice. Even if she ignited the swords, burning the area or causing more slimes to form would be a problem. Unfortunately, it was a risk she couldn't quite afford. Though she had to admit, didn't expect flying dictionaries or the like to beat them all up; she assumed it was that kind of book anyway.
Seeing her plan though, Homura nodded. Time to try a new plan. If she couldn't cut, she'd just have to pierce right through! Hands ignited with more flames, though the fanning flames calmed down, focusing, almost as if forming a gauntlet on each arm. Had only down this a handful of times before, but never in the coming plan. She set her idea into motion, dashing over to the remaining slimes and punching into them. Yet as she let go, fire from the improvised claws remained inside of the creatures, suddenly eating them from the inside out. They writhed pathetically before melting, burning from the concentrated spell, all before ceasing motions, dying just as the flames died down.
She turned on her heel, arms extended on both sides ready to tackle anymore coming their way. "Think we got a decent game-plan here. You smash, I pierce and burn, and we'll be done in no time!"
Might have to clean those books later though...
no subject
"Sounds good to me!! I'll try to group them together so you can incinerate them! I don't trust my fire to not go crazy in here if I use it!"
And flicking her wrists, arms waving like a conductor at an orchestra, objects lifting up all around them and flying out towards the slimes. She's avoiding using books now, instead going for furniture like chairs, tables, and benches to try and corral the monsters into a closed space.
no subject
At least until Homura noticed something. They were now grouping up, seemingly fusing, making it harder to get her hands out of each slime she pierced. Even the dying ones seemed to retreat to the giant forming slime, as if trying to give the last of their power to the now grouped up mess. Her blows had only made it out to be uglier, like jello being left to rot. Still, everything was just becoming a single, big target. One with an ever growing-range as it was now trying to consume Homura, slowly hovering over to close off any chance of retreat..
Yet she just smirked. “Alright, keep them pinned down with anything you got besides books! I have another idea.”
Though she was gonna badly need a shower after this...
no subject
Perhaps that's why they were getting desperate. Ochako sees the slimes retreating, and for a moment she thinks maybe they've won, but no...no. This wasn't a retreat. This was a tactical formation. Like a receding wave forming a massive tsunami, the girl feels a chill prickle at her skin, and her assumption was correct - the slimes bulked up together, creating a large and powerful slime to try and overpower and engulf them completely. Stronger together, huh? Not a bad strategy at all, and one Ochako employs often with her teammates.
"Just be careful!! I think if you let that stuff stay on you too long, it starts to burn!" Like acid. She's already seeing parts of wood and the stone around them distort where spattering of goop touched it...she can only imagine what being trapped inside that thing could do if one was inside it too long. But maybe-- "Now that it's larger, I may be able to hit it with my fire, too!! If you need it, we can combine our magic together!"
Wasn't that a thing? Two magic users resonating together when using their magic to create a powerful combined spell? Ochako is sure she'd heard that somewhere before, but, uh...it may have been in her magical girl animes and mangas, h-honestly...
no subject
"Do it! It wants to take a bit out of us, we'll bite back with hellfire!"
As the slimes began to surround her, her entire body ignited with fierce flames. Such fearsome fire harmed the large creature, and she felt the hot slime touching her skin, she merely burned hotter. Any pain just motivated the shinobi to try harder to destroy this thing. She wasn't just relying on the aura, as her fists rapidly punched the body with those burning claws, sending even more flames coursing through the body.
At least she could ignore the bad smell, for now.
"You guys might have a big appetite, but you screwed up trying to outeat me!"
no subject
Taking in a deep breath, Ochako squeezes her eyes shut and mutters to herself, mentally. A prayer and a plea to her familiar, wherever the white dire wolf may be. Aludra-san, please. I really, really need you to cooperate. I want to beat this thing fast, it's hurting my companion, but I don't want to burn the books, either. Please... No sooner than she finishes her thoughts do Ochako's fingertips glow red hot before a two balls of fire burst to life in Ochako's hands and she jolts a bit before tossing them each at the slime to further damage it.
"Just a bit more!! Don't let up!"
no subject
As she did so, Ochako's own fire struck the other end. The weakened sides were just what Homura needed, growling as she started to raise and lower each hand to the cieling and floor, directing the flow. Their combined forced shined and burned into the slime creature, and now at opposing ends, regeneration was much harder. The fire flowed into the center, all until the creature moved forward and...collapsed into goo. Melted goo that unfortunately landed on Homura. Hey, at least this barely burned as much as before.
She sighed, yet still smiled. "Okay, I think, unless this thing has some auto-revive bullcrap, we did it!"
