🧙 WHO: Rosho and Sasara
⚔️️ WHAT: they're on a DATE
🕒 WHEN: Valentine's day
🗺️ WHERE: around Camelot
⚠️ WARNINGS: Sasara's very bad jokes and an embarrassing amount of fluff
[ As the sun steadily begins to set in Camelot, Rosho takes a moment to check on his watch. He has no clue at this point how long he and Sasara have been out, but it's probably about time they wrapped up their walk outside. ...well, not really a "walk" anymore. He figured it out pretty quickly in the beginning, the moment he and Sasara agreed to head out together for the day. It started with a trip to one of Camelot's theaters where a valentine's day concert was being held, then a trip through a nice, quaint residential area. Yeah, there was no coincidence there, and he was sure Sasara figured it out himself.
They were definitely on a date. Not that that was a problem, but he had to say, he was pretty impressed to see Sasara had even prepared anything for the two of them to do together. It'd actually been a lot of time, but they'd been on their feet all day and as it started to get late, he figured the final thing to wrap things up absolutely needed to be dinner. But jeez, the city was bustling with so much activity for the holiday, it was hard to pick a place. He'd sort of fallen behind with his plans and never got around to checking anything in advance. If their living arrangement was different, he could just make dinner at home, but... well, they were still living in that simple, boring room at the inn.
Rosho's looking this way and that while they maneuver down the road until he stops at the sight of a display in the window of a cafe.
SPECIAL VALENTINE'S DAY OFFER
Come try our cherry vanilla pudding! Limited time!
Couples receive half-off deal!
Rosho is sold immediately. ]
Sasara! Here is okay, right?
[ A cafe's not really much of a romantic dinner location, but of course, with pudding now on his mind, he's already leading Sasara by the hand to the front door so they can step inside. ]

Taking his partner out somewhere else, after the concert, Sasara'd liked that idea, unconcerned with scouting the different places and leaning into whatever looked delicious. Special Valentine's...–
It's sorta on the nose, no? ]
A-ah, slow down, Rosho!
[ A soft laugh rather than his usual obnoxious chitter, of course Sasara isn't about to say 'No'. A table for two, yeah? The staff member seating them can probably guess the upcoming order, but out of courtesy will leave them to their table for a few minutes. ]
Heh! Ya see, about catching plenty of flies with honey~ [ There's only one Rosho to be caught with pudding, but still! ]
no subject
I'm not the fly! Just because I like sweet things... [ He huffs, pointing a finger in the other man's direction. ]
You're not any better, ya know. With that cream soda obsession of yours. If ya saw that kind of advertisement you'd be buzzing on in.
[ They've both got a terrible sweet tooth though, that's for sure. Rosho pushes Sasara's menu closer to him. ]
Come on, you're probably hungry by now, yeah? We've been on our feet almost all day. Pudding's the dessert, not the meal.
no subject
Haha! Don't take it so seriously now. I think it's pretty sweet, ya know?
[ It would be a little more romantic if Sasara didn't so lean into the pun, but he knows Rosho loves him
because ofdespite that. He takes up the real menu at his partner's insistence and wise words. His stomach also agrees. Sandwiches, fried eggs and omelettes, and small soups and more, all the way to more cakes and desserts. Looking through, Sasara mutters his options before he finally makes a decision and turns the page to the drinks. He can't hide that his face is drawn by surprise, but manages to keep it down from his voice in volume. ]
Frosted lemonade...? [ He hasn't seen that on a menu before! What is it!? ] Rosho– [ He'll definitely have THAT!! Set the trap and he walks right in. ]
–what'll you get?
no subject
He really did fall for an idiot. They both did.
Frosted lemonade? Rosho flips where he assumes that would be, the last page with the drinks and desserts. There's no description of the item but he assumes with "frosted" in there it's something with extra ice? Or maybe ice cream. He looks up from the menu and narrows his eyes at Sasara. ]
When I said food, I didn't mean more desserts. [ But he doesn't tell Sasara "no" at least, and instead goes back to the front of the menu to look at the rest of the items. Maybe a large salad? Or a sandwich with a side of soup. There's so many things that he has a feeling will taste really good. ]
I think, the ham sandwich. With the bisque. —oh, they have chocolate croissants!
[ He closes up the menu and sets it down, like he's finished and ready to move on, but instead Rosho rambles on. ]
Ya know, the last winter break, one of my students vacationed in France, I was so surprised when she gave me some chocolates as a souvenir! They were chocolate almonds, but in France, they call them amandas! She talked about all the really good food they have there, but their pastries are the most amazing. French desserts are something else entirely when it comes to sweets. Aah, that's all I'd want to do if I went to France, just eat sweets, I don't even know if I'd be able to make the time for sightseeing. French pudding... that'd be a dream come true.

[ Sasara taps his finger on the header that says just so, though he's also thinking ice cream ✨ Guessing that Rosho'll be won over if he can have a taste too, he'll definitely get it, in spite of the look of judgement! He leaves the menu open on that very page. They've both made their picks, plus dessert. A waitress is circling them at a polite distance, taking her time to come over.
Rosho talks. Sasara sits across from him, listens. It's just like they were in the beginning, at a different cafe, not as in love but still something, at first sight. As if they've gone back in time without the struggles ahead, he thinks. His partner's retelling finishes in time, only his answer has to wait with the girl finally walking up the take their requests.
Sasara orders Rosho's and the pudding, and for himself: ] The mushroom soufflé omelette and the, ah... [ Pff, like he has to double check the item he Really wants! He looks down at the open menu, quickly back up. ] Frosted lemonade.
[ Returning to privacy, among all the smiles Sasara never hides is this one especially. Things haven't changed, they're back just where he wants them. And this time around... ]
We oughta go, don't ya think? To the city of love. [ *Horribly over the top "French" accent* ] Once we're outta this place, to France and all over, Rosho.
no subject
S-stupid, what're you saying? That kind of traveling, it'd be way too expensive, wouldn't it? I'd need to take time off of work...
[ He knows that's probably not what Sasara wants to hear, but Rosho's not the one with a job that allows for extensive traveling. He could sneak in some time in-between school being out of session, but going all over the world? He just couldn't sacrifice that many work days, work weeks, for something like that. Even with Sasara, as much as he loves the thought of traveling with him, going to so many different locations in the world... ugh, he can't let him just pay for all of that, whether he even could or not, he doesn't even know ]!
At least... I guess, visiting Paris would be nice. As... a-a couple...
[ He takes another drink of the ice cold water even though his face feels really hot. Sasara's right at least. "The city of love". The one place all couples think of going to for that perfect romantic date, the beautiful French ambiance, visiting the Eiffel Tower—
It's your turn! Sasara whispers to him with his arms stretched up over his head. Rosho pauses then puts his glass of water down on the table. ]
It'd be ironic, don't ya think? The place we teamed up in, that was at Tsutenkaku.
[ That's the Eiffel Tower, right?! Rosho blurts out, the only thing he can think of to say.
Nope, I'm just stretching.
Rosho hears the sound of his hand slapping against Sasara's side, then, the entire cafe bursts into laughter. ]
Our very first routine together involved the Eiffel Tower. We, we could... visit, and give the tower our thanks.
no subject
Is it these places, that are shifting these thought of his? If they went back home tomorrow, that is, wouldn't he still rather change his mind back and back again? ]
Mm? Don't think about that for a second. [ He interrupts.
There's a lot else Rosho just said. Talking about his student in such a fond manner and blushing through Sasara's bold mention of Paris. It's all imaginary, he hasn't been either of course. This debut joke of theirs, though, it's like they stood all up on top of the Eiffel Tower back then.
Together. ]
That time, yeah?
[ Neither one of them has ever forgotten; never will. This cafe is a more quiet spot, not the same audience, a different ambition... This time, Sasara is the one bursting into laughter. ]
It was your line! [ ( Ah... ) ]
The request I made after that, Rosho– [ "Something" at first sight. ] –even then, it was about more than just doing comedy together...
no subject
He'd never thought there could be anything more to their collaboration other than Sasara's secure belief that Rosho could be his equal in comedy, the tsukkomi to his boke, partners. That's what their relationship was at that time eight years ago.
it was about more than just doing comedy together
Rosho's face heats up.
The way they always spent time with each other, the way Sasara couldn't ever not be by his side, always coming over to his place, always wanting the best for him... and then, the way he reacted after they broke up...
Since the very beginning, it wasn't just about comedy. ]
If y'told me somethin' like that, at the very beginning... I definitely wouldn't believe you. To be that serious about someone like me... we'd just met, we didn't know anything about each other. And we were total opposites, ya know? Some mean-looking, nasty punk that everyone was afraid of, that couldn't gain anyone's confidence... y-you'd have to be some big idiot, to see someone like that, and decide they were just the right person for you.
[ He says it with a very meek, dry sort of humor. Some idiot you'd have to be, to fall in love with someone, just like that. And then to lose them, but never give up, and never think of it as a fleeting, passing moment, but something you keep yearning for. Like an old friend. ]
But I guess, in a way, it was the same for me. Even if I didn't understand it at the time. You... were what I needed, too.
[ Someone to be proud of him.
Someone to pick him up and push him forward.
A brilliant, shining sun. ]
Takes an idiot, to... f-fall in love with another idiot, just like that, yeah?
