[Open] February Catch-All
🧙 WHO: Nanaki (Red XIII) and YOU!
⚔️️ WHAT: Arriving, getting settled, quests
🕒 WHEN: All throughout February
🗺️ WHERE: Around here and there
⚠️ WARNINGS: None atm, will update accordingly!
Arrival - Caravans
[[At first glance, it might seem as though the strange, lion-like beast is a familiar of some sort. And that would be a fair assessment to make given his animalistic appearance, but for any who are sharing a cart with the beast they’ll see that he, too, has been given the same starting items as everyone else. What's more, he even seems to understand what a phone is! However, he seems to be having a little trouble with the smartphone itself. He prods at the device with his paws, ears flicking in annoyance as he tries to get the little device working with little success. Perched on a railing nearby is a gold-feathered phoenix, who is watching with rapt attention.]
[Eventually, Nanaki sighs, looking at the nearest person with an annoyed look on his face.]
Could I bother you to get some help with this? I’m having a little trouble.
The Red Spring - Training
[If Nanaki is grateful for one thing upon arriving here, it's the promise of a dedicated training ground. Learning how to use the magic of this strange world will definitely be an asset, so Nanaki wastes little time going to check out the training grounds. He's used to magic cast with materia, but Nanaki knows that to thrive in a new environment you have to be adaptable.]
[His phoenix familiar flutters nearby, perched on a nearby perch and watches as Nanaki focuses on following the instructions of the trainers and putting his magic into practice. He’s managed to create a couple small sparks of flame, but they are quick to flicker out. After some practice he huffs, sitting down with a swish of his tail.]
This is a lot harder than it looks…
Camelot - Exploring the City
[Once he's gotten himself settled, Nanaki takes some time to explore the city proper, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of a new area. A few people look at him strangely, but he seems unbothered by the odd looks; or, at the very least, has made the decision to ignore them for the most part.]
[Still, just because he has made the decision to ignore people's stares doesn't mean others are willing to ignore him. Several times if he approaches a business or pauses to glance around a shop, he'll often be stopped and asked about his bonded partner. It gets to the point where, most of the time, Nanaki's answer is the same deadpan statement.]
I'm afraid you're mistaken. I'm not someone's familiar, I'm a customer. And I need assistance.
Quest - The Libryinth
[Strange how a task such as sneaking into a library after hours can be considered a quest, but Nanaki can't help but be curious as to what he might find. And prowling quietly as he hunts for secrets is a skill he is very adept at, the very notion making his tail twitch in anticipation. A game like this could be fun, and a good test of his skills.]
[Nanaki is able to put his feline grace to use as he quietly prowls the bookshelves, hopping up on top of the shelves with ease. But for how simple he finds it, he can't say it'll be the same for his two-legged partner for the evening. He turns back to who he's with, his lone eye glinting in the dark.]
This will no doubt be difficult. Think you're up to the task?
Wildcard
[Got something you'd like to thread out with Red XIII? Feel free to DM me with an idea or come up with something on the fly!]

[He says it with a bit of a grumble in his voice. He's not used to having pockets or bags to carry around! Pouty boy is a little pouty.]
[But his grumbling about a phone is quick to be dismissed, his tail swishing as he nods in agreement.]
Right. We may not all be in the same place, but we're still all friends. Even the ones we meet outside of Midgar.
[A little hint at their future adventures? Perhaps. But given what she remembers, Tifa probably hasn't met Cid, Yuffie, Cait Sith, or Vincent yet. He figures things will be okay with a little teaser.]
I have so far, yes. The staff there hasn't been too bothered about my specific needs.

Maybe you can hang it around your neck somehow? Or would that be too bothersome to walk around with?
[ She doesn't want to suggest a collar, but there aren't a lot of other options to snap things around a four-legged creature for safe-keeping. Maybe there are pouches that won't slide off or maybe a leg bracelet of sorts... ]
And they really are friendly, so it hasn't been too difficult for Aerith and me to acclimate. In fact, it's more luxurious than what we had in Sector 7. Did you ever get to visit the slums?
[ She realizes she knows very little about Red's life prior to his captivity by Shinra. Maybe Red might not even know that much either, depending on how long Professor Hojo had kept him in his lab. She remembers him talking about some of the cruel experiments they performed on him, things no creature should have to endure.
Fortunately, they got him out of there -and it seems he remained close to them all. Maybe even found some happiness in his freedom at last. ]

[Though, it looks like he would probably have to custom-order something, and he needs some more gold for that. Le sigh...]
The slums? No, I have not been to the slums of Midgar. Though, I have visited you at your bar in Edge after the fact.
[He pauses, frowning. Wait... Edge was built after Meteor had destroyed Midgar. Should he be talking about that? Or... agh, this was hard.]
no subject
A new bar?
[ She doesn't know what "Edge" is, but it's relieving to learn not all had been lost. Or rather, what was lost could be reclaimed in some fashion. ]
I hadn't had time to really think about it, but I suppose I would have done it... in time. It's not like I could re-open 7th Heaven in Midgar again.
[ Being wanted criminals puts a damper on any plans of returning. Not to mention Sector 7 had been destroyed. ]
I hope I also got to make you some of our specialties then.
[ Does Red even drink... can his body process it? ]
no subject
[He usually doesn't care for bars, but 7th Heaven somehow felt very homey despite being a bar. It was very Tifa, in a good way.]
Ah... [And for once, Nanaki actually looks a little sheepish, his ears flicking as he glances off to the side.] I, ah... may have tried a few of your specials. They were... good.
[...that's all he's going to say??]
no subject
I'm glad something of it could be salvaged. I wish I could say the same about rebuilding the bar in this place, but I don't think they're keen on letting outsiders run their own businesses.
[ Which is fair. They haven't really earned the trust of the locals yet, although Tifa is doing her best through all the quests. ]
Until then, there are a bunch of other jobs to be done. I was just on my way to one and had been picking up supplies for it. How about you?
[ He probably lives at the same hotel she and Aerith have been staying at since their arrival. She can't imagine he's done much else differently to adapt to all of this than they had. ]
no subject
[He liked Tifa's drinks when he sampled them! Even if... he didn't remember much of what happened after he drank a few too many of them. They sort of made things fuzzy in his memory...]
Agreed. I was just going to see about picking up some food after dealing with that last shopkeeper. But if you need any assistance on your quest, I wouldn't mind helping.
no subject
Thank you. I really appreciate it. I can call you once I head out, and we could meet around the same place. Hopefully, it will go smoothly with more of us. I'll see if Aerith wants to join, too.
[ The more the merrier really. ]
Will you be okay in the meantime? I don't know how to make it more obvious you're not a familiar... maybe a hat or sunglasses?
[ She manages to spot a nice trilby among the shop's wares before picking it up and plonking it down gently on Red's head. It... sort of fits him. ]
There. It makes you look a little more sophisticated than usual.

[It was just like old times, all of them going out to do some task or explore some cave along their journey. The very thought made Nanaki's tail twich in anticipation.]
[He's about to go on and say how he'll be fine in the meantime, but then Tifa is reaching over and grabbing a hat to... plop on his head. Oh... It sort of flattens down his mane, but rather than shake his head, he peeks out from the brim of the trilby.]
Huh... does it really look good..?
[He doesn't know human fashions!]
no subject
[ Familiars don't really wear hats so mission accomplished? At least for now, but Tifa does adjust it a little so Red can see before straightening to her full height. ]
I'll call you when we're ready to leave. Try and keep your device close by.
[ She just has to make a mental note to use voice so he can hear when she does. ]
Until then.
[ Hopefully, he won't find his way into further trouble, but the shop owner luckily seems distracted by something else at the moment. ]
