"Mayhap so," he agrees idly, examining a book but finding nothing telling on its particular covers. He puts it back and peers along the shelves. "Or mayhap they see patterns where there are none. The request did not sound all that sane."

He isn't ruling out the possibility that this ends up being a wild goose chase. He almost hopes it will be because the less excitement in his life, the better.

"The notice did not mention what they wanted us to do if we discovered aught, did it?" he asks a few moments after, frowning.
