A Tall Order

Kaji has already decided which quest he is willing to undertake. Not going to stick his neck out far enough to get it cut off, but willing to do a thing or two that might help. However, he's not exactly rushing off, in fact as he looks over the other quest the man lights a smoke, letting it hang between his lips.

He gives the list another glance with a thoughtful hum, the money from the Pure of heart sounds like a good prize, too good to be true which means they clearly are being asked to do something they should not do. He'd do it, but if he can, he'd rather stick to things that don't make him have to make a large moral decision while out and about in a strange world with people he does not know.

Either way, for now, he's going to stand there and smoke and contemplate the board and hell, even his life at this moment.

Working hard or hardly working:

Kaji has taken a job at one of the local taverns and a cafe, he spends most of his days working in the cafe while putting a shift in at the bar in the evening. He finally had enough with the generous help of his bandmate to purchase the drums and practice is coming along well.

This means Kaji is in good spirits, rather one finds him at the bar or cafe they are sure to find him with a smile, a joke, or outside taking a quick smoke break, really just matters when they happen along.

Wildcard: I am open to any of nonfighty monster quests with Kaji or TDM prompts, if you'd like a starter for one let me know. Or if you want to fling someone at Kai at random, he can be found working in one of the cafes and one of the taverns, so looking for a cafe breve he's your guy. Kaji was actually pretty excited to take a day out and hang out just him and Uenoyama, he was curious what his younger bandmate had in mind and so he was up early on his day off, making sure to spend some time with his husband.

Then it was off to meet up with Uenoyama outside of the inn.

As he waits, he's got a coffee in each hand, one for him, one for Ue, and a cigarette dangling between his lips, he looks relaxed in the early morning light, wouldn't guess he worked till nearly two am the night before.

Uenoyama made sure he asked for this on his own day off too. He didn't want to have to think about rushing to the shop during all of this. He's... determined in his intentions, yes, but he could easily come up with an excuse and delay it.

No delays allowed.

He bounces down the stairs, a deep blue jacket and light blue and gray scarf that Mafuyu gave him for Christmas. He's never leaving the apartment without it. There is a bit of a nervous air about him when he walks up to Kaji.

"Kaji-san, good morning," he gives him a short wave. He's literally the only person Uenoyama knows that has experience about this, and the only person he can trust with it too.

That is a good idea, one thing people don't realize a lot of the time about getting a piercing is that they can be a little woozy or tired after the fact, an alteration to the body will do that. Of course, after the first one this effect gets less and less, by now Kaji can get one and bounce into band practice after with little to no discomfort.

"Morning Ue-sama, coffee?" He holds out the hot drink to his bandmate, pushing off the wall, cigarette stubbed out, butt disposed of properly once he's given the other his coffee.

Kaji is not one to beat around the bush so he gets to the point "What's up?"

"Thanks," Uenoyama accepts it with a nod. Gets his hands busy and all instead of nervously wringing them. He wonders if Kaji will laugh at him for this request but he's been more on a serious side as of recently. Besides, he's shown him nothing but support when he truly needed it.

He nods and takes a deep breath.

"I want to get a piercing."

Kaji will still have his moments of goofiness but no, he has grown up a bit since their time at home. Mostly attributed to his relationship with Haruki, that seems to be just what he needed to find his feet and become a better man.

The drummer starts a little, surprise on his face, then it filters into that wolfish grin of his.

"Alright Ue-sama, time to get you a little edge to go with all that coolness." He wonders what's up that makes Uenoyama want to do this, though he has a suspicion, and he steps forward leading them to the one parlor he knows of in Avalon.

"What made you decide to do it?" Though, he is happy that Uenoyama chooses to do it with him. Maybe he'll get one too, it's been while.

For a moment he thought Kaji was going to tease him about it but- nothing comes. So he's more relaxed, less nervous, aside from the thought of getting a needle in his earlobe. That's a problem to weather when he gets to that point.

"Thanks. I don't really trust anyone else with this." Because Kaji has like a million of those piercings himself.

"I was thinking about it for a while, even back home, but I saw this earring in one of the shops the other day," he pulls out a little box from his pocket and opens it, showing a small, blue gem earring with thin red lines through it. It's nothing gaudy or big, just a small, regular earring. "So it kind of solidified my decision."

Kaji will tease about a lot of things, this is not one of them. He knows that moment when he decided to get his first piercing and a part of him is kind of proud of the part of him that Uenoyama looks up to. In fact, yes Haruki is helping him be a better man, but so is the admiration of his younger bandmate. Someone as cool as Uenoyama is going to fanboy, you have to live up to it right?

Kaji reaches out, sliding an arm around Uenoyama, giving him a grin "I think I know a thing or two."

He laughs letting the other go as he takes a sip of his coffee.

"Oh nice starter. You going lower ear or cartilage?" He indicates the ones in his ear as he speaks.

Now he's a bit embarrassed when Kaji throws his hand around his shoulders. It really does seem like he's copying Kaji with this like a real fanboy, but he never denied he was that.

"Thanks! Um... I didn't really think about it. Lower ear, I guess? For now."

He has a few more ideas that popped up in his head that he could definitively go after later but for now, he'll stick to lower ear.

"The shop is in the center. Let's go?"

Kaji takes it as a source of pride because Uenoyama is a good, upstanding young man. His fanboy status gives the drummer another reason to try and be better. To show through example and be more than he was when they first met.

"Good starting place, easy to keep clean, not one that usually gets infected."

Kaji will be here for those ones as well, if he has his way, he'll be sticking with his bandmates for a long time to come.

"Lead the way Ue-sama, I'm just along for the ride. Though, I could get something new, been awhile."

There's no hiding the fact that Uenoyama goes a bit pale at the thought of getting infection because of the piercing, but it is what it is. He can handle it, right? If not, he'll find someone with healing powers to fix it for him- here at least he can do it.

"Did you start off there as well?"

Uenoyama had a few other... ideas, that' he's currently not brave to try out.

"Where would you get the piercing this time?"

Lucky for him here, Haruki has healing magic if something happens he is sure to take care of Uenoyama, obviously the ones bringing them in knew what they were doing. After all, Haruki is definitely the caretaker. A trait he and Ue share in common.

"I did, but it's addicting, after the first one I couldn't stop." This is very true

He thinks over the next question, ticking a few off in his head before deciding.

"I think I'll go industrial, in my right here, basically a bar from here." He points to part one side of his upper ear "Going here.." He points to the other side.

"Or I could get a microdermal right under my eye. What do you think?"

Addicting... Uenoyama would never think of getting a piercing to become addicting. But considering how many of them Kaji has, it's probably the truth. If it's like that, Ue wonders if he'll want in the future another one. Or maybe that would be too much.

Ue hums as he explains piercings on the ear, but then visibly flinches when Kaji points at the skin under his eye.

"Why would you want piercing there!? Is that even possible? Won't that hurt a lot? Or injure your eye!?"

The expression on his face is somewhere between being impressed by the courage, but also kind of terrified.

It is, though not for everyone. For Kaji is was probably partly the escape of it. At the time he started with the piercings he had very little control over much in his life, the piercings were proof he was tough and that he had control over something.

Now, well, they've become more a symbol of who he has become, and this moment, getting one at the same time as his bandmate is that step forward with the aesthetic he needs, it takes back that control again and makes the piercings something for him and who he is now, a bonding moment with someone important to him.

Uenoyama may not have realized it, but he is helping Kaji and Kaji did not even it needed to be changed, the motivation for the metal, but he can feel the shift and it's a good one.

"Because they look super badass. But, they can always reject and get infected easier." He chuckles "I could wear an eye patch be a pirate if it did." He can totally pull off pirate, right?

His expression is that I am teasing you Ue-sama look, one Uenoyama should know well by now.

Rin isn't the most common sight in taverns despite how many nights she spent partying at Lunatia's night clubs and bars. But she happens to be in that same tavern alone around the beginning of this month. For reasons.

Wouldn't be the first time, when she starts opening up about things she bottles up after drinking a little... Or wouldn't be the first bar/tavern fight, that she accidentally starts later if that happens again.

Anyway! She's sitting in one corner of the counter with nothing in front of her, not yet, aaaand she raises her head as soon as she hears Kaji joking to someone else there. Oh. He works here. Goooood. Rin waits a bit until he is less busy with other people.

"Why am I not even surprised seeing you here?"

They both lead a somewhat different lifestyle here than they did when they first met on Lunatia. Calming down has undoubtedly happened, both with the arrival of her love interests from her homeworld and his marriage to his love from his homeworld. What hasn't changed, he enjoys Rin and her company.

So, when he hears her, his wolf grin is automatic, but there in those piercing green eyes is knowing. Because something tells him what she is here to open up with a bottle is a pain he has known all too well in his lifetime.

"You mean you didn't come here just to see me?"

He is finishing up with a customer; then he grabs a bottle, two glasses, has a quick talk to the other man working the bar, and heads over to Rin.

Sliding into a seat, he cracks the bottle, pours two fingers in both glasses, and slides one over. Step into his office Rin.

"Good timing, I'm done for the night."

Even if Rin hadn't taken a trip to her homeworld between hopping from one world into another, arriving into the same world with her Saber might have calmed her down a lot anyway. Not that she regrets anything from Lunatia or like she's ashamed of her time there but-- it's still different with her around and with Shirou it kind of depends on how they decide to roll with everything. But hey, she still enjoys Kaji's company too.

"I didn't even know you're here."

His great grin hasn't gone anywhere and hey, neither have her teasing smirks and smiles. She's looking at him with one of those teasing smiles right now like that line is obviously a lie, she's seen him walking here more than once and she kind of is here for his company. But no, she's not here just to see him.

"Besides if I was here just to see you, well, now I've seen you and I could walk out."

But she's not moving anywhere from her seat, she sure keeps her eyes on following Kaji's actions because that's much more interesting than anything else here. Until he slides that glass to her, at least, because then she's staring at that.

"At least some things have good timings here then..." Whatever that's supposed to mean. Rin nods towards the glass. "What's that?"

If he wants to keep it as a mystery or surprise, that's fine too, won't stop her from drinking it or at least sipping from her glass soon after that.

A part of Kaji may be envious she got to go home first. Well almost, except that everyone he cares for the most is here, and in the end, that is more important. Besides, back home it would be a need to hide their relationship for the sake of the band, which frankly Kaji would never be good at, not one to deny himself, he'll stick to contentment here in the multi-verse where he can have his life as it is now. Even with crazy magic shenanigans.

And now, obviously, his favorite magic girl, which to him is a bonus, if anyone can get how this place works it has to be Rin or at least better than a musician from Japan can.

"You could, I could follow you, maybe I need the company."

There is comfort in the familiar way she smirks and smiles and in the banter.

"Whiskey cures what ails you." He can assume she's not here for just him, but he thinks he may be able this time to offer what she needs and not in the way they both sought the first time they met. Though he is not one to beat around the bush, so that time comment is not going unanswered.

It feels good to him, to be in a place where he has friends, people he cares for who are not in his band, for the longest time he honestly had no one. Strange, how the multi-verse can both complicate and improve life all in one.

He takes a swig, it's strong, warm, maybe burns a little on the way down but it is a good liquid band-aid if ever there was one.

"What's your poison tonight?" More so what's wrong and she is most likely going to know what he means.

It was a nice trip home! And maybe Rin somewhere out there will also get to go there and then she can go visit Lunatia to see Lancer again after seeing everything, that happened back in their timeline. Would not recommend if things are better between all of this world hopping and if people have their most important people with them in the multiverse though, maybe. Or at least it gets more complicated then...

"You do need my company if you ever have any questions about magic or want to learn more about it or whatever magic related things it may be..."

Kaji, you are her favorite drummer too. Not that Rin knows any other drummers but even if she did, she enjoys the company of one of her first friends anyway... She really hasn't many real friends through her entire life either.

Tohsaka stares at her glass like she is almost surprised for a moment. Whiskey sounds like something her father and that fake priest would drink together but here she is, drinking it here tonight without seriously complaining about it or her company at all.

"Is that a local saying or something else? Also what happened to sparkling wines, girly drinks and all that...?"

Those sound more like night club style or like her style back in Lunatia. Not sure how much of that same party style she'll be doing here, pretty sure she isn't stopping that completely because it was fun too.

Rin doesn't mind the little burn, she drinks more of it and she's still quiet for a moment. Talking is easy, when it's not about her personal businesses but it's ~~harder~~ weird talking about anything close to those. But yeah, it's clear what Kaji means and she likes his way of asking it even if she doesn't say it. Where does she even begin? Her home world is kind of a weird place between all of this world hopping...

"Magic. First it brings all of us here..." It's easy to see where this is going. "...then suddenly I can't find someone anywhere because clearly he went back home."

Hey, that's a really interesting glass in front of her and she keeps staring at it or anywhere near it, because apparently that's easier if she'll be here talking about this.

Kaji in truth, is content to stay in this world or even Lunatia. It is not that he disliked his life back home, but he appreciates the freedom to be open with their relationship here and appreciates having friends, something that with his lifestyle choices back home he did not have many of.

“We’ll fix you dinner in exchange for magic question answers, deal?”

He does not really know any magic girls, not as well as he know Rin. But she is his favorite for the same reason, he has had few real friends and she definitely counts as one of them. He chuckles, pouring them each another shot of the whiskey at her question.

“More a I need to vent and forget shit thing. Oh we got those too, even got some that come infused with magic for a little extra kick. But, by your expression, this looked like a whiskey problem, not a get our drink and dance on problem”

Though, that does make him wonder if there is a club, he would not mind going out for a night dancing and drinking with friends. It could do her some good, he and Haruki just might have to take her out to shake it for a night.

Kaji watches her as she watches her glass, realizing what it must mean, this person she can’t find, must be someone special to her.

“Ahh.” He murmurs understandingly, losing anyone, no matter the why, the how, it is never easy and he takes another shot of whiskey before he talks again.

“ I can tell you it’ll be okay, but you know that and it isn’t going to make missing them any easier, it’s one of those things you have to let yourself feel or one day it’ll just come pouring out at the worst possible time.”

The cafe is where he spots him. Noiz goes in mostly not expecting to recognize anyone. A number of people from Prisma are here, but most of the ones he learned of were unfamiliar to him. Not to mention he heard some here didn't remember that place. Different versions. Inside, once he notices Kaji, Noiz allows his gaze to linger longer on the familiar blond than it needs to. Long, solid eye contact.

"Cappuccino. Medium."

Kaji has run into a couple of familiar faces, not realizing yet that there are those who do not remember Prisma. He's finishing up with his current customer, then he feels that gaze on him before the words. He looks up, a wolfish grin marking his features.

He lets out a chuckle as he starts the order "Not even a hello huh?"

He teases, finishing up the order he sits it in front of Noiz. "That's on the house, how you been stranger?"

Sure, they weren't "friends" perse but Kaji is not going to act weird toward someone simply because he slept with them the first time he met them. He'd have to act weird toward far too many people for that.

Waiting till he hears some sort of confirmation from Kaji, Noiz finally allows his brows to rise. "You do remember me."

He reaches for the cappuccino, tugging it close. "I already learned about four people I knew there who are here but don't remember shit." He's come across more who did remember.

"Ah, well that explains that, only had that happen with Em so far, everyone else seems to know me."

It's good to see Noiz, even if he is not the let me smile and have a happy reunion type, Kaji still appreciates seeing him.

"You been here long?"

Without hearing Emerald's full name, he doesn't figure out who the "Em" he's referring to must be.

"I see." He blows on his drink, still not sure how long he needs to wait to make it cool off properly. "Since last month." In his opinion not long at all.

Kaji would offer a suggestion but he is unaware of Noiz's inability to feel pain. He does not think much of the other blowing on it, smart to do he assumes, though coffee is best hot, don't want to scorch a mouth.

"Huh, about two for me, how were things back on Lunatia?" There are still some people he has not seen that he'd at least like to know what happened to.

No matter. Noiz got his ability to feel pain restored not long before leaving Lunatia. It's really just a matter of too little experience in figuring out how long coffee needs to cool before it won't burn when he tries to drink. He places an unwrapped hand experimentally around the mug, testing the warmth. If nothing else, the temperature feels nice. It's been pretty cold lately, and he's unused to feeling so much chill and coldness everywhere.

"Shit had recently stopped hitting the fan. What do you last remember?"

Kaji catches sight of those unwrapped hands, not that he hasn't seen them before, it's more he is surprised as when he saw them there was a valid reason for removing them.

"Lost the bandages?" He can not help but inquire curiously, stepping aside so another employee can take over for a moment while they catch up.

"Shit still hitting the fan." He laughs, leaning against the counter. "We'd just got done with the whole vampire thing."

Which was interesting he supposes, but he's sure not sad to not deal with that kind of shenanigans. Not that this world is any different, crazy things still happen here.

"Yeah. Lost the bandages." Noiz slides his mug further down the counter so that he's not blocking the registers.

"Hmm.... Sounds like you're missing a month or two. I left that place in the middle of December."

"Nice, the metal looks good on display." And he means it, Kaji has an appreciative eye for these sorts of things. As a matter of fact, the longer he stands here seeing Noiz, the more he considers things.

"Huh, no way, that's kind of wild. At least it looks like most everyone made it out safe."

He makes a coffee to help his co-worker out, looking over his shoulder at Noiz.

"Two questions, you tried this Cafe Breve yet and got a job?"

"I don't know what a Cafe Breve is." He sips gingerly at the drink that has had some time to cool.

"No permanent jobs. Why?"

"Let me get you one, on the house." He whips one up, they are tasty and sure do seem to bring in the crowd. Once he's got the drink finished he carries it to a table with one for himself, motioning for Noiz to follow.

"Cause, I got a business idea and I think, you might be the perfect guy to hire, only one I know with more piercings than me, you know how to give them to other people?"

All this free shit's making Noiz mildly suspicious, causing his brow to furrow in contemplation. That's when Kaji leads him over to the table and blurts out his plans.

Ah. Kaji wants something from him. That's what it is. The tension in his shoulders releases just a smidge as he slides casually into a chair across from the taller man.

"I've done it a few times. Nipples, clit, ears, tongue web..." He sips at his first drink, still not finished with it, and casts a pointed expression Kaji's way. His chin rests on the knuckles of his free hand, elbow on the table.

"What's the pay and do you even have the funds to start up your own business?" Startups are something he knows a thing or two about. It was his funds that helped get his Usui manifestation location analysis schtick off the ground.

Noiz may learn one day, people are sometimes nice just to be nice. Kaji would have given the free drinks even if he did not think he might have a job for Noiz. Those were more of a hey it's nice to see a familiar face in the magic land thing than a hey do this thing for me thing.

The additional drink is made well enough it should keep while he finishes his first one. He's supposed to be promoting them anyway since they are some limited edition thing.

He lets out a short chuckle "I knew it, great, I don't think there's anyone else in town who could do it, that's why I've been holding off and saving up. So to answer your question, yes, I've got enough to get it up and going. That's where we can bargain, I can give you a commission on every piercing or a flat rate, hourly pay, you tell me what you think is fair, we'll see if we can agree."

Since he assumed he would not have a piercer till he saw Noiz walk in the door.

"...Combination of commission and hourly pay. That way it's worth my while no matter how busy or dead."

If it were only commission-based, Noiz would become very annoyed if the place had almost no business for piercings. On the other hand, if it becomes a surprise hit he wants to be paid his worth for his work. This was the middle route that would accomplish that.

"It's a deal, I need to start scouting some locations too but once I've got everything ready to start setting up I'll let you know."

It's a good point and Kaji is willing to be reasonable, he is not sure how much money the piercings will make but with there being no real places here with this exact set of services offered he thinks they might just be able to make something of it.

"Right. You run your own business before?"

[ It's not like Karma can't just look around Kaji's shoulder or say "excuse me" to get him to move (or don't and just barge in anyways), but he lingers back for the time being, watching Kaji stare at the list, like he's weighing his choices picking off a menu. ]

...You're sure taking your time. Got it memorized yet? If you're having trouble deciding, just do them one by one.

[In essence, at least for the musician, it feels like choosing off a menu. Though he is not meaning to be rude and stand in the way. He's just contemplative because whatever task he takes, he'd like to get home to Haruki tonight.].

Huh? You know, excuse me works better.

[He steps aside, turns, one eyebrow going up.]

Nope, already decided Elf carrier is the safest, but the crystal money sounds good.

[ It might work better, but this still works, getting Kaji's attention and him to move. ]

"Safest" in terms of what? It's ineffective back-breaking labor to no ends.

[ Elf carrier felt like the dumbest quest to Karma, safe to him in the same way that babysitting a bunch of rowdy preschoolers would be, giving in to their every little whim. ]

Easy money, I guess...

[That is true and he is not one to take offense so it's not as if it leads to some sort of conflict.]

In terms of not slipping an innocent man something in his food or running int random monsters.

[It is the tamest but look, he wants to get out of this alive.]

Easy money is nice, living is better.

Innocence until proven guilty, and it's not like those monsters are random?

[ Trolls, elves, humans, it's pretty much all listed out. When he's faced off against the most elusive and dangerous of monsters for all these months, it's hard to be scared of whatever this world can throw at him. ]

It's not like you'll die. How 'bout we partner up, and you'll see? I won't let you die, and in exchange, I'll only ask for a little bit of "payment."

You got an answer for everything huh? You must be from one of those places where this kind of stuff is normal.

[Listed out yes but for a musician from Japan, well still weird. Despite this being the second world he has found himself in, he has avoided monsters at all costs, there and here. But, here he does have the magic to help protect himself.]

Name your price and maybe you got a deal.

[ He likes to think so, anyways— there being an answer for everything means possibly knowing everything, it means not being surprised and it means being in control. ]

It's not like I go up against monsters all the time or anything. Where I'm from, there's only one, and I haven't been able to kill it yet.

[ On the flipside, it also hasn't been able to kill Karma. But that's nothing to brag about, considering the monster's promise not to harm any of his students. ]

Anyways... for an escort like this, the payment comes out to be 3000 gold. [ the equivalent of 30 USD ] And you tell me what your magic is.

I suppose you're right.

[He can not argue that even as he is still trying to figure out what it means that he and his band keep traveling the multi-verse now. So control, he takes what he can get but when this is the second new world in six months, it feels out of his control.]

That's one more than me kid, so 3000 gold and I come out alive? Light magic, shields, illusions, that sort of thing.

[He would have told that if asked.]

[ Coupled with his magic, they shouldn't have much trouble, especially if he's practiced in his magic for however long he's been here, Karma still feeling his out but taking what opportunities presents itself to do so. ]

Mine's psychometry. Not as useful in the face of monsters, but I'm pretty good with a knife. [ knife against a monster... ] So, who d'you want to fight? A seasoned knight? Innocent old man? Elves?

[Yes, Knife against a monster, okay, that just gives Kaji all the confidence in the world. For a moment he stands there, looking as if he might reconsider this venture as a whole.

In the end, there is one prize too tempting and while he meant to go for elves, he has a business he wants to open and that takes the gold.]

3000 gold, I come out alive and we're taking on the old man because a knife is not the best of weapons but it's better than none.

The "kind, innocent, old man"?

[ Karma looks delighted more than surprised, but there is a healthy serving of both. Who would've imagined Kaji choose that quest, especially when he says he has no experience with monsters- Karma can bet he has no experience with killing in general either. ]

You have more mettle than I thought! Alright, first—

[ He holds his hand out. ]

The gold. Then we head to Morganna's. Let me take the lead.

I have more need for money than you thought.

[Besides, they are supposed to be helping him, not killing him right? It may seem to good to be true, but he will deal with that when they cross that bridge. Truth is, depending on how fast and loose with pure of heart this bridge is, he may not be allowed across to begin with.

He laughs, reaching in his pocket he produces half the money and puts it in Karma's hand.]

The other half at the end, considering there is no going to Morganna, Morganna comes to you and we have to go the bridge, then to save the old man, I'm saving that half after you prove you know what you're doing. But you can lead if you know where the bridge is.
