[ The cliffs were pretty.
That was the only thought running through the teenager's head. The rest were emotions. They swirled inside him like flies, flying around and being their own thing but without ever meeting in one spot. Nothing ever felt right. Was it the fact that he was sent to another world, failing to keep his promise yet again? Or was it the fact that he still had his right arm, when he couldn't even summon his blood?
All these questions only made him sigh heavily, keeping his eyes trained on the horizon. There was just so much to think about, and eventually his shoulders slumped into a defeatist pose. ]
What am I even doing here...? Why didn't I go back home?
[ Wandering around the city, it felt like Shin Kawahama. It was as modern as modern can get, but there was a lot more... green, than he was used to. It wasn't all bad; the constant fresh air that it brought instilled a sense of calm in him. Naoto found himself wandering the streets, crossing the street if he found one street a little too crowded for his tastes. It would be bad for him if someone found out about his prosthetics through collisions into him.
He eventually stopped in front of a bakery, looking at their wares through the display window. He didn't hear it, but staring at everything made his stomach rumble.
I wonder how everything tastes... ]
[ Naoto's right arm felt different. It had felt different ever since arriving in this world. Before arriving in Avalon, it was made out of blood, but it was always hidden behind his red and black glove. There was always a sense of a damp solid when it came to the arm. It was that part of him that symbolized not only the sacrifices he made, but the promise he was determined to keep.
Now, as he went through his regular training routine, he knew his punches felt off. His left arm, despite being a prosthetic, still felt the same as it had always been. His right arm still had a sense of weight behind them, but it wasn't as normal to use as his regular blood arm. It had felt... replaced. New. Not his own.
It threw him off to the point that he asked his little kitsune familiar to help him remove his glove, just to see what it actually was. What he saw wasn't what he expected. It was a mishmash of elements, all woven around what looked like a core.
Well, that was new. His familiar confusedly chirped at him, causing him to nod. ]
Yeah, I don't get it either.
[ Word on the street was that he could use magic. At first he thought it was cool, but doubt quickly replaced that happiness. Magic was supposed to be gone. The magic his family used was in the realms of exorcism or was fueled by seithr. Pure, unaltered magic was something he's only heard rumors about. Even back in Ragna's world there was only one woman who could use such a thing, and that was the witch Nine. He always thought that was cool all on its own, but...
Could he really use magic, just like that witch did? There was only one way to find out.
Attempt after attempt, he tried to summon something, anything. He was starting to lose hope as time went on and on, which allowed doubt to start sinking into his soul even more. Even with his little kitsune cheering him on as much as it could, it just wasn't enough.
He was just about ready to give up, only to see a small pool of water gather in his hands. That alone made him yelp in surprise, ending the spell almost immediately, but also made him grin wildly. ]
Magic... That was actual magic... [ He starts laughing in disbelief. ] Magic!!
