If the Librarian wasn't so bloody diligent in her patrol, Aziraphale would have been through this a lot faster. Instead, he was sneaking around on the high shelves, trying to avoid noisy footsteps, trying to catalogue the symbols and route in case he had to do this at a later date (or in case it changed on them later), and trying to just not get caught. It was if she thought there might be book thieves prowling the stacks after hours. Really.
