Octavinelle Troubles [Closed]

Closed to Azul
It seems all of the trio has been in a poor mood of late, however the reason behind Floyd’s mood is because of the other two. And the fact he doesn’t know what is going on! At the very least he is less annoyed with Azul, having started with whining and when that hadn’t worked had gone not to silent mode, but certainly to ‘I don’t want to talk to you’ mode. This of course may be something Azul would like, but it doesn’t matter to Floyd. He’s upset with both of them.

Floyd’s even let up on that ‘testing’ he’s been putting Azul through for the last month or so, a push here, a prod there, being more of a pain to see if he could make Azul snap and use magic; moving his stuff around on his desk, taking stuff away from him he was using, small things, but he knew it would add up. Floyd had just wanted an excuse to fight and test Azul. But right now… even that wasn’t fun to him. Not with Azul at least.

Still, there is stuff to be done for Golden Silence, he currently tapping his pen against a clipboard he held in his other hand as he looks over their supplies, Squishy snoozing on his shoulder with a couple of tentacles wrapped around Floyd’s neck so not to fall off. Floyd’s busy going through what ingredients they had for the next couple of weeks and making notes and doodles next to the check list of ideas for dishes. Sure, it would be a messy list to give back to Azul once he’s done, but it allowed him to get ideas out and written down, and some of those would actually turn into good dishes! Others… less so and were better to ignore.

However, “We need to go shopping. The menu’s getting boring.” And it’s not just a case of him getting bored with it, it was starting to feel like they were getting a bit too stagnant in what they were offering. Keeping favorites around was good, but it was also good to mix in a new dish or two here and there to get people in to try it. ‘Limited edition’ was always a good way to bring people, and money, in.

Closed to Jade
His mood towards Jade was even less friendly since this all had been going on. Whatever ‘this all’ even was! Floyd didn’t know! All he knows is Azul and Jade are being weird!

And neither of them will tell him why!

They’re supposed to be a team! Why is he left out?!

And it hurt more coming from Jade. Sure, it’s not like the twins had to know everything about each other, they had their secrets from each other, they didn’t have to tell each other everything. But the fact whatever was happening was affecting two of the trio made this more important! So while Floyd is annoyed at Azul…

He’s angry at Jade.

That may explain why dishes and utensils are getting slapped down more than normal as they work at setting up the restaurant for the change from lunch to dinner while the place was still empty of customers. Floyd was always messier when it came to that than Jade was, but he normally either did the job decent enough to pass, or didn’t want to do it at all. This was… more aggressive. Very much a case of showing his feelings through his actions. After all, he’s already spoken his feelings at Jade about being angry at not knowing what was happening, and that had achieved nothing.

So now… he’s ignoring Jade. Fine! If he doesn’t want to talk to him, then Floyd won’t talk to him!

I donno, maybe. He doesn't really talk about it. [Plus they were at an all boy school normally, not like there was a chance to date girls even if they were back at school. ~~Unless they were ghosts.~~] But if he don't know him, then can't be that, right?

[If it's not a plan or scheme, and it's not he's upset that Azul got to hang out with Taichi, then what was it?

Floyd shifting his gaze to the side to look at Azul as they walked, pressing his lips together but not saying anything. Hmmmm...]

What is that look?

[...hmmm.

But,] Nothing. [Floyd's tone turning to dismissive, as if it's no longer important, kicking his legs out in front of him as he walked, a casual stroll to his step so not to get too much ahead of Azul. If it is what Floyd thinks it may be... it's not his place to talk about it.

A smile appearing on his face a moment later.] I'm just happy we're talking again. I didn't like all that before.

I thought you were just having one of your mood swings, so I didn't think anything of it. It's hard to tell with either of you, honestly.

[Floyd lets out a long, joyous laughter at Azul's reply. It ending in a sigh.] Yeah, I'm like that. [He knows.]

Next time I'll try and come and talk, ok? I was just really annoyed with you and grumpy with you. [The chances of this actually happening next time? Even Floyd doesn't know. But he will try!

Oh! Wait! Now this is all over, he realizes something,] I can go back to testing you now! [Wasn't that supposed to be a secret, Floyd? Maybe he's just too happy to be back on normal terms with Azul. Or maybe this is part of it. To get Azul on edge.]

[Floyd allowing that answer to hang for a moment, as if he's not going to play along and answer... before grinning again. Awww, Azul didn't notice. Maybe he should had pushed it further...]

Sooo~, I was thinking, [A dangerous thing.] And I realized, ya know back at school? Well you're super strong there, like maybe even Jade and I together couldn't take you down, right? I realized awhile back, that we are here now, and that means you're not as strong like you are back at school. So I wanna see how strong you are now. [And that smile... that isn't a good smile for anyone to have aimed at them.]

[No it is not. Azul is used to it, but he still doesn't like it.

A sigh.]

Do you mean physically or magically? Because if it's physical, then it's the exact same situation as it is back at school.

[Wimp on land, very strong in water.]

Aww, only 'cause you don't try. I be you're still strong, even on land. [Even if Azul was real bad at all the sports stuff at school, but a lot of that had to do with flying and heights, or running and stuff. And Azul wasn't fast, even under water. The twins would always have him beat on speed and maneuverability. A good thing, those octopus limbs were very strong, and Floyd absolutely has gotten caught before when he's pushed it too far and annoyed Azul.]

I meant magically. But I'm also mixing mine up with physical, ya know? [Really, kinetic magic was perfect for Floyd and how he liked to fight.]

Why would I want to be strong on land, Floyd? What purpose would that serve?

[He has the tweels! It's fine.]

Yeah, I can't do that. Alchemy doesn't lend itself well to that, and neither does dark.

'Cause it's fun! You look all weak and stuff, and someone tries something, and BAM! They get their butts kicked for underestimating you! [Imagine how funny that would be, Azul. They would never see it coming.

However, as Azul admits that... hmmmm.] ...I wanna duel you. [Not a request, not quite a demand either, but still closer to the latter. Hearing this all Floyd's no longer thinking about how fun it would be to test Azul out.

He's now concerned Azul can't look after himself.]

[Azul stares at Floyd for a moment, trying to figure out where in the hell that came from. He's not Jade, so it's not easy, and in the end...

Yeah, no, he's still clueless.]

Why?

I need to know what you can do. [The look Floyd was giving Azul now was no joking around, but it also wasn't his 'I'm going to squeeze you' look either. He's still sizing Azul up as if he was looking at a target, but it was something closer to a Jade expression, more scrutinizing and calculating than Floyd when he's in hunting mode.]

I'll give ya a month or so to get ready for it if you don't think you're up to it now. [Time for Azul to prep and get some improvements in. Isn't he kind?]

[Oh God.

Azul hates to be a coward, but...well, he's smart. He knows how that would go.]

Can I just concede now? I've been busy with other things and have only really worked on my alchemy.

Nope! [Denied!] I need to know what you can do. [This is important, Azul. At least in Floyd's mind. He can't do much if he doesn't know just what Azul could do, what his limits were, how much he could trust for Azul to take care of himself. Back at school it wasn't an issue, sure the twins were more his muscle, but Azul could easily wipe the floor with most who came his way.

The fact he can't here... it's weird.]

Then you gotta work on your dark stuff! You like to study! [What a poor excuse, Azul.]

I've been busy. It's a lot harder to set up a restaurant here than it was at school, you know. It was just me for the longest, and I can't just blackmail people into doing the heavy lifting here.

I knnoowww~! [Even without seeing Golden Silence Floyd would know that, because it's Azul. There was no stopping Azul on this kind of thing.]

Well you got me here now, so I'm gonna make you balance it better. [Not help him, make him.] I'll be your dueling buddy! [See? Perfect! Who better to practice fighting against than Floyd, huh?]

That is very unnecessary Floyd, I assure. I avoid most conflict, after all.

Yeah, but what if you can't? Then what will you do? [Sure, this place seems pretty ok right now, but he's heard enough people going on about really bad stuff happening. Like super bad stuff. Floyd needs to know Azul can look after himself enough to survive.

You know what, fine, let's do this the Azul way.] I wanna make a deal with you.

[A deep, deep sigh.]

I reserve the right to reject this deal, but let's hear it.

[It was something! He just has to put forward a good offer.] After one month of prep for you, you have to do a weekly training session with me so you can fight and look after yourself.

[That's what he wants, what he has to offer though... honestly, not a lot. That was the issue. Hmmm, well...] I owe you one I.O.U a month for whatever ya want until we're done with the training. [This was... more than Floyd wanted to offer but really, what else did he have? He already worked for Azul, he didn't have anything Azul wanted, his currency wasn't high enough to really pay for this. All he could offer was a promise.]

[Azul gives Floyd a look since. Well.]

An IOU for what, exactly? You already work for me. Most things I'd ask from you would be part of your job description.

[Yeah, he knows that.] Yeah, but there still stuff I don't wanna do that you want me to do, right? [Floyd really doesn't like this... but Azul is more important to him than hating whatever might be waiting for him with this deal.] You could be like 'you have to do this with no complaining' or something.

[Hm.]

An outsider will determine when I am "done" and I start accumlating IOUs starting from the day the contract is signed.

[Eehhhh, details... details suck... but are important.] Who we using as an outsider? Or would it change depending on the situation and task? [Why was he doing this again?! Maybe he should just leave Azul to get his butt kicked one day.

...ehh, he can't do that.]
