Armored Archaeopteryx

[It has taken Jean months to actually bond with one of the Armored Archaeopteryx that were granted as mounts for Knights. Mostly because the invidual he was with had almost as bad of a temprement that Jean had... but eventually they had come to an understanding.

So now it felt safe enough to actually try and fly with the archaeopteryx. This would be Jean's first attempt at flying with anything. Three-dimensional maneavear gear was kind of like flying, except not. He was the only one in control of what happened (save for equipment failure). Even flying as a bird with animal magic was all up to him. This was a living being that had its own will.

But he had to learn how to ride one of these eventually so...]

Okay. Let's do it. I'm ready to go. I'm-- woah-

[After some speeding up the archaopteryx takes off to the skies. With Jean screaming on the way. He was definitely not ready for this after all, but here he is, flying high up in the air.

The flight isn't very long and they come back down with the archaeopteryx looking very smug. And Jean is just glad there's ground, thank you ground.]

That will... take some time to get used to...


[Yeah, give him a moment to settle.]

[Susie is just passing by when she hears the sound of... distant screaming? And she looks up to see some kind of armoured bird (?) and its rider soaring through the sky.

When she gets a closer look at the archaeopteryx as it lands, she looks impressed. At the dinobird, definitely not at Jean.]

Whoa, nice. Can I try? [Let her steal your cool ride!]

[Yeah, you gotta admit that the bird looks really cool.]

No, sorry. They're only for Knights to use... besides you need to gain her trust.

[The birdsaur is definitely looking at Susie with a sense of pride but also like she's judging her.]

Then I'll become a knight! Just lemme try in the meantime!

[Yelling is definitely something that inspires trust. She holds out her hands as if expecting him to hand over the reins.]

[She's going to be a headache for him, isn't she.... but he looks at the bird and she nods to him. Time to mess with her a little? Yes. He trusts the bird not to be too rough on her.]

Fine. Test it.

[He gives her the reins. But the moment she takes the reigns the archaeopteryx starts running at full speed without any warning.]

[Susie yelps as it begins to run, pulling on the reins and digging her boots in.]

Just-- stop-- dammit--

[She loses her footing, only to be dragged along the floor. It doesn't occur to her to let go.]

[Jean isn't too worried about it. He has healing magic as his secondary type so he can heal Susie if needed be. But she didn't listen so she kinda brought this on herself...]

She's not going to listen to just anyone. You might want to let go.

Crap--!

[Susie doggedly holds on for a few more seconds, but finally concedes defeat when she sees an oncoming rock, letting go.

She's just gonna lie here in the dirt. This is fine.]

[Once Susie lets go, the archaeopteryx runs a bit more before diligently returning to where Jean's items are, waiting for them to return to the castle later. She's in no rush to go anywhere.

Jean, meanwhile, approaches Susie. He doesn't get too close to give her space, but he's close enough so he doesn't need to shout.]

Are you okay? I have healing magic if you need healing.

[Probably for the best he keeps his distance. She bristles, pushing herself up onto her hands and knees. Luckily she's made of some tanky stuff, so she isn't visibly injured beyond a few bumps that will bruise later, but she still shoots him a glare.]

Tell anyone about this and I'll kick your ass.

And here I was thinking that this would be an interesting story to share to Noelle...

[He mainly recognizes Susie since Noelle's talked so much about her.]

But I won't. Just listen when people tell you no next time.

Don't bring Noelle into it, weirdo!

[Susie picks up a rock and throws it at him... except she misses on purpose so it just sails on by, bouncing harmlessly to the ground.

She gets to her feet.]

Tch. You're lucky my aim sucked.

[He does flinch a little because of the rock, but also notices it definitely wasn't meant to hit him.]

And you're lucky I'm not currently on duty or I'd have you arrested for multiple reasons...
