Speed Dating & Friendshipping

WHAT'S UP?

Speed Dating & Frienshipping is a (player-run) Valentine's Event hosted by Ren Jinguji and Camus at Shining Karaoke, located in Camelot.

During both of these events, participants talk to all other participants. Everyone is given five minutes to ask questions before they bell rings and you move onto the next person.

The tables all have cards that include simple questions if someone is stuck on what to ask. Here are some examples of what kind of questions there might be. Of course Speed Frienshipping won't have any "shippy" questions or ones that could be implied as such.

Everyone is free to make Top Levels for their characters for before and after the events themselves for mingling, singing karaoke or anything! World's your oyster and so on.

I don't know if I like it or not...but if it's anything like what I've seen then, probably anything with a fight scene and a...romance plotline?

[She flushes at that last part because it's embarrassing to say it out loud.]

[ There is zero embarrassment as he declares this. ]

Do you watch romdrams on TV too?

[Jane does not seem at all bothered about that. In fact she's thriving in this kind of situation.]

It's lovely to see so many people here, don't you think?

[ Della pauses at that first bit, uncertain if she wants to tell her new friend about how her incredibly rich uncle can also be incredibly cheap... ]

Well, that's hard to say! Not all danger is the same or equal! One day you're fighting off a genie's magic that's creating forces to make you stay in its will, another day you're racing against the clock to escape a tree that's growing so fast before it crushes you to death...

Then I suppose I'd like to be... someone normal. Anyone, really.

[She gives her answer with a dry, wistful half-smile.]

It would be a nice break. Maybe a farmer, or something like that?

Aww, that sounds so nice.

[She tilts her head to one side slightly, thinking about it. Jane's life has been somewhat exciting for the last few years, as much as she might have liked for it to be otherwise sometimes.]

I suppose... something like 'adventure on the horizon'. I can't seem to stop running into it, after all.

[ With a small grin of her own, she gestures to him. ]

All right, your turn again.

Okay, if you have friends coming for supper what would you cook?

(He is reading off from his smartphone again.)

[ He keeps silent for a little while, dropping his gaze to frown at the table. ]

...I...suppose you have a point. [ It is a grudging, reluctant admission. ] That is what-- no, nevermind.

[ He sighs, shoulders slumping. Then he tries to pull himself a little straighter and glance over the sample question cards on the table. ]

...These are utterly inane.

In my world, I possessed a keen sight: the ability to perceive aether and differentiate the souls of those around me. Sometimes on a clear night I would find a quiet rooftop and watch as a myriad of souls crossed the sky, flowing upon life's stream into the Underworld.

[ .. except Minako wasn't popular at all, considering she was always away from other people due to her work as a sailor soldier, even before she joined her group of sailor soldier friends.

But that's such a depressing thing to bring up during a speed friendshipping event, so of course she doesn't say any of it. Instead she just nods at Chrome, widely smiling. ]

Speaking of pretty, though.. you know, I think you've got a real cool, unique look going for yourself as well! You look really trendy in your own way!

[ he's a telepath, not a mind reader, how is he supposed to know about the hard mode!!!

He rests a hand on his chin and thinks. ] Well, I wouldn't call myself a good cook, but I'd want to try and make one of their favorites. It feels like the right thing to do. [ He's certainly not Omi levels of good, but he's still selling himself short here. It's fine.

There's a small, amused smile on his face as he reads over his card, though he doesn't leave Kazunari out of the joke for long. ] Let's see... If you could invite anyone, dead or alive, to dinner, who would it be? [ A pause, as he very intentionally reads his name tag. ] ... Kazunari-kun?

[... Yup, Taichi sure reminds Mikasa of a puppy especially because she has two dogs and they may not be tiny puppies anymore but that's when she got them.]

They sleep through the rest of the night and the next morning his wife gets an idea. They should show their appreciation and gratefulness to the elves, who have made them wealthy but those elves are running around with nothing on and it's winter, so they must be freezing. She makes clothes for them and the shoemaker makes a pair of shoes for each of them.

They work hard all day until all of them are finished, they leave them into a place, where the little elves could easily find their gifts and then they hide again. The elves arrive at night and the couple sees they're delightedly trying on their new clothes and shoes... And then the elves dance out of the house and they never return but the shoemaker's business becomes prosperous and he never runs out of leather again.

Or in some variations the elves never leave and they work together, but the rest of the end result is the same either way.

[ . . . aaaand, yeah, that's it. And now when she's not telling a story / fairytale, she . . . is not sure what to say. So she'll just brush some fingers through her hair.]

[There's a quiet chuckle from her. He'll know why sooooon.]

If it's good for us, then I'm not going to blame her. Sounds like she knows you.

[Look, who is talking, Mikasa really isn't good at socializing herself either but she can't really disagree with the whole it being good for her thing.]

Oh. My fiancé decided to team up with our dogs because he has Animal Magic, so then they all stared at me with puppy eyes and I couldn't say no to the actual dogs.

[But she could have said no to Jean, as always, if she wants to (but when does that ever even happen?) but really, staring at Hazel and Snow's eyes... He knew exactly what he was doing.]

[ The list of reasons why Tsumugi would ever get up early is extremely short. Unsurprisingly, "rehearsal" is at the top of said list. ]

Oh! That's a good answer. [ His eyes light up with interest. ] Are you two close?

Oh! Yes, I am. We're actually from the same world.

[ If only there weren't the time limit... but still! Oooh! Aaah! So impressive! ]

I don't blame you for being frightened. A lot of people would be, I think. [ Back home, he might've said "anyone" but, well... probably not anyone in a place like this. ] But I'm surprised they listened to you so easily.

[ Being the flower nerd that he is, there's a couple questions that would be expected from him here. What flowers did he use, what messages he conveyed, that sort of thing. But what he lands on instead is: ] How big did you have to make the crowns?

[Oh good, so it's not as embarrassing as she thought. She nods her head. She didn't really take the time to watch them before, but she's been enjoying watching them with Kyoko and Haru. Now she's hooked!]

...sometimes, I'll watch them with my friends back home.

[ Since they have a common interest, she focuses on that.]

Do you have a favorite character archetype or favorite story device? I like when the main love interest has a dark and mysterious past. And I also like historical settings, too.

If you require an additional set of hands, please, let me know. While I don't have much experience with aviation, I'd be very interested in learning more and I'm quite handy with engines.

I see nothing wrong with that. It's only natural to try to broaden your horizons, including in terms of food.

[It's something he can no longer do, unfortunately, but he at least understands the sentiment. Variety is the spice of life, or so it is said.]

I do think you would get along quite well with most of my friends from home. They're all good people.

Oh, that's a good question. Hmm...

Well, a lot of that would depend on who's coming over. But in general, something pretty easy. I have this one recipe I like to use for a lemon herb chicken primavera that's pretty tasty.
