[ With blade in hand, he remains poised to strike. Turning to you, he nods once and motions to the sushi-beast. ] Let us be done with this.
Cupid's Arrow Beta Testing - Part II
[ Last year's "beta testing" had been a terrible experience, but does that stop him from being affected by it? Absolutely not. Unfortunately for Somnus, he's been struck by an arrow by a particularly pushy vendor of the things, that of the courageous variety. Anyone who knows Somnus may know him to have a rather taciturn nature. Because of these arrows, today that is not the case.
Regardless if you do know him or not, he'll be standing outside at the market, looking over one of the vendor's wares. Without so much as anyone prompting him, he'll be the one to strike up a conversation first, opining: ] This would make a fine gift for my grandson.
[ It's a red, silken scarf with two fish embroidered on one of its edges. Also, it's okay, his opinion can be absolutely wrong. Still dressed in robes of antiquity, Somnus is nowhere near being a fashionista, and his great-great-greatnth-grandson has infinite more drip. Aware that he is enchanted, and the words spoken unnecessary, Somnus frowns and turns his head. ]

This is true: Ardyn and Somnus have always been and will always be brothers. This is also true: Somnus has been a terrible brother.
The spell under which he finds himself this day makes it so that his terrible fraternity is something that will no longer be tolerated. And so, he begins with sending a message to the other:
th is ardyn ?
this is [ And that's it, the message seems to have been cut out. ]

The future - futures, really - that I saw never came to pass. Things took a different course.
[He still remembers the happiness those time rift experiences gave him, and he'll always cherish them, but ultimately it wasn't meant to be. Part of him always knew that.]
I think you should buy the scarf if you like it. Even if your grandson doesn't return here, perhaps you can take it back to your world for him when we've sorted this whole mess out.

If he could return to his world as if he had never stepped foot within this place at all, it would be better-- and safer-- for all. ] ...Very well.
Maybe you should do the same, should your children of those future arrive.

They won't come. They'll never exist, they only could have, if things had gone differently. But it's better this way. After all I left the world they would've been born on - it's not my homeworld. It wouldn't have been nice for them to have an absent father.
[He looks over the wares, but doesn't see anything he needs. He should probably stop idling around, but he selfishly wants to enjoy just a few more moments with someone who doesn't think badly of him.]

How was it that you came to see this alternative future?

[He quickly glances around again, just to be on the safe side regarding Maribelle's "hit" on him, but it's doubtful that anyone would really take him out in the marketplace with so many people around. Then again who knows what conceits some unscrupulous avengers might come up with?]
One day someone accidentally created a bunch of rifts in the space-time continuum - or that's how I understand it -, and those rifts would suck people in and kick them into the past of that world - that's how some of us outworlders actually got to see its calamity -, or into its various possible futures. I saw two futures, none of which came to pass. I know that for sure because in each of those scenarios some of the architects of the calamity were still around, but we eventually defeated them for good just a few months down the line. So ultimately we were much stronger than we thought, and the future that became reality was the better one.
