1. G(lacial)-Warriors 🗡️ (Knight quest)

A quest is just what he needs to take his mind off the plethora of revelations to come from his day of forced slumber - and what better way than to go out and hit something until it falls to pieces? He takes his gunblade, his horse, and the provisions provided by Camelot to all knights embarking on this particular journey. In typical fashion, he does not bother to ask around and see if anyone would like to join him. No, he wants the time to himself to sort out his thoughts.

Yet nothing is ever that easy, is it? He's ambushed by one of the I.C.E. constructs as he nears the spot. His horse rears up in alarm, throwing him from the saddle before bolting into the trees. Emet-Selch lands with a painful thud into a bank of snow. Fortunately, the gunblade strapped to his back seems in order. Unfortunately, the ICE is advancing on him and he's having trouble getting out of the snow.

2. Serve, Save, Slave, Slay...Some Sushi 🗡️

The sushi monster is no easier to slay than the I.C.E. as Emet-Selch discovers much to his chagrin. What does a man have to do to get some relatively simple knight quests??

The...creature(?) fires a round of pellets at him which has him diving into a rolls to avoid. He comes up into a crouch just in time to parry one of the sharp green swords it wields, quickly getting his feet beneath him before the second can slice him in half. He's been at it for a few minutes by now, focus utterly consumed by the opponent before him. He's growing tired though and the thing still doesn't look like it plans to give up.

"Ridiculous thing," he seethes. "And me, reduced to using these inferior magicks... I should have asked Irhya for a greatsword instead of a gunblade."

He fires off a round and its ricochet echoes throughout the forest. Even if the sound doesn't draw attention, the eerie blue after-image of the shot is worth attention.

3. I See You, Opening! 🛡️

Well of course, Emet-Selch doesn't want anything to do with these tricksy arrows and their dubious effects. But other people may have no such qualms. Perhaps you want to see this sour-looking man pour his heart out to one of his associates. Or perhaps you want to make him suffer by tasting nothing but chocolate for two weeks. Anything goes. ~~Really. Anything.~~

If shooting: Please nominate which arrow you're shooting him with. I'm happy to write custom starters if you want.

If encountering him after he's been shot: Please nominate which effect you want for him. Again, I can write a custom starter if that's preferred.

[ Unaware of her errant thoughts, Emet-Selch takes the bow and arrow. It's very clear he knows how to handle one as he nocks it, carefully testing the flex of the bow and tautness of the string. Eventually he gives a satisfactory nod. ]

This should not hurt given that it is the vessel for a spell... However, I will aim somewhere non-lethal to be safe.

[ Monika positions herself and extends her arm. She, surprisingly, doesn't look scared. Maybe because she knows the arrow can't hurt her. That and it's a courage arrow... She wonders how it'd change her? Well, she wouldn't have to fake confidence any more after being hit.

Mhm. She'd see soon enough. ]

Alright, go ahead! [She closed an eye, making a light-hearted(?) joke to make things less tense.] If I die, please tell my girlfriend I love her, alright?

[ He rolls his eyes. ]

I'm sure it won't come to that. I have impeccable aim - as long as you hold still.

[ He readies the bow and fires the arrow. As promised, it only strikes her upper arm (at least, it will if she doesn't attempt something silly like moving at the last minute). He lowers the bow afterwards and watches her with mild interest, wondering how the effect will manifest. ]

[ ... Monika doesn't feel really different. Yet again, she doesn't have any romantic feelings for Emet. And she barely knows him. Maybe that'd manifest later when she'd see Minako? Or maybe the arrow was not working as intended. ]

Mhm... I guess I do feel a bit braver? It's hard to say, ahaha! It's not like I had anything to be afraid of to begin with.

[ She raised a finger. ]

Maybe we should test it on you so you can go and confess to your sweetheart!

[ Said with no hesitation and whatsoever no hint of shame. Yep, the arrow works. Unfortunately for him, it seems. ]

[ She's treated to a visibly startled look from him. His mouth almost falls open until he quickly takes a hold of himself, frowning fiercely. ]

I confessed to him within a week of arriving here! Don't say such foolish things.

[ Oh dear. He hadn't meant to say that - and that was without the arrow's help! Oh well, not like it was a secret or anything. ]

You did? Wow!

[ She hadn't expected that! Maybe the grumpy old man wasn't as emotionally blocked as she'd imagined? Well, he didn't look that old, all things considered... That streak of white hair and the way he held himself made him appear much older than he actually looked... ]

I hope that means you have great plans for Valentine's Day! [No shame whatsoever, thank the courage arrow.] I know I've made tons of plans with my girlfriend.

[ He scowls harder. ]

I don't observe such superficial mortal celebrations. If you require a day to affirm your bond for one another then 'twas hardly much of a bond to begin with.

You're missing the point.

[ She shook her head. He really was a grumpy dude, huh. Not celebrating "mortal" celebrations? That was such a lame excuse! ]

It is a day to celebrate, not to affirm. Of course, you could and should celebrate your bond every day... But there is something special in the knowledge myriads people celebrate their love at the same moment. [She raised a finger.] Besides, is making a box of chocolates that difficult?

[ One could almost swear they hear his teeth grinding with how stiffly his jaw sits. A box of chocolates is what started it all - but what he hates most is how she makes a valid point. Hythlodaeus would be ecstatic to receive a box of handmade chocolate from him.

He pinches the bridge of his nose and gives himself a small shake. No, he refuses to be so...so sappy. ]

I've known him for thousands of years. I don't need to give him something every year as mortals do.

That again...

[ She sighed. She wasn't about to have another debate regarding whether "immortality" is truly a thing or not in the first place. So instead, she looked at him sympathetically. ]

Well, there's no point in trying to change your mind. [And that was where it'd end... If not for that courage arrow still working its magic!] I'd just like you to consider the following: are you refusing to do this the way mortals do because you genuinely think that wouldn't make him happy, or because of some principles you'd rather uphold over increasing his happiness? [A tilt of the head.] If that's the later, then thank god neither I nor Minako are immortal, ahaha!

[ He remains stubbornly silent, this time with his arms crossed tightly. Tellingly, however, he refuses to look at her. He knows she has a point. Seven hells, he knows she's right. But if he wants to give his partner a gift then he'll do it without an explicit day telling him so!

It's the cheapness of the celebration, he tells himself. Yes. ]

...He would be happy no matter what day it is. So I will make something for him. Next week.
