Trumpets blow loudly to introduce the start of the tournament day. Everyone is invited to watch or participate. Those who would like to sign up need simply sign in for the competition they seek to join in on. Sign ups open at 8am, though you can sign up any time before the start of your competition category. There are different prizes listed for each category!
In the sign-up area before the tournaments begin, there will be a number of entertainment shows going on: Some of the fae who were invited are giving enchanted body paintings. Once the painting is finished, they will travel across your body like a living tattoo. Please be sure to specify if you would like it to be permanent or temporary, and exactly what you want-- especially if you want a permanent one.
In addition to the body painting, there will be a number of clowns playing pranks and giving out balloons that, when popped, completely cover the surrounding 5 feet in glow-in-the-dark glitter that smells of your favorite scent. Each one will smell different depending on who is smelling it. What's more is the glitter actually dissolves after 12 hours, so you don't have to worry about it never getting out of anything. Amazing!
There are additional dance shows and parades going on through the town and near the sign-up area to draw people in, and little pop-up shops with merch you can buy to support the tournament-- cool t-shirts, sunglasses, hats, keychains, and more. Don't forget to download the Tournament Bets app so you can place money on your favorites to win and make bank! Maybe save some for the tavern afterward if things don't work out, though... or before you make any decisions, check out the castles' royal tea garden, beautifully decorated in a wide variety of wintery florals, which is set up and serving a delightful medley of teas with soothing effects. Just be careful-- each table has a magic grapevine that will communicate with another table, so you may end up hearing someone else's secrets on the grapevine... or just ending up with a fun conversation if you notice it before you say something you don't want to share.
As the tournament gets underway, it starts off with all of the multiview screens taking focus on the royal viewing box. In it stands a man that we have not yet seen before, but who stands with an air of dignity. He's wearing a suit, and a crown, and looks confident despite that he has many reasons to be hesitant- he is back from the dead, after all.
 | ”"My name is Arthur Pendragon, King of Camelot. Many of you may have heard of me from your worlds I'm told, and many still may not have, but I will begin with an apology. I should have been there for those of you who arrived months ago and have been bravely pursuing this battle without leadership. I am afraid a few millennia of culture shock have thrown me off course and the Advent of the Kardashians in my studies has not helped these matters. But that is little excuse. From here on out, I will be with you in your journeys. Those who have questions of me, I will be offering an..."
Merlin's voice comes in off-camera to help him out, since he's still not sure on all the lingo, offering "AMA" to assist, then Arthur continues.
"An AMA to you all in the coming days. But for the time being, let us celebrate the wins and strides you all have made with a tournament. Those brave enough to enter, I hope to see you vying for knighthood and fighting alongside me in the days to come. For the love of Camelot!" |
The video ends and the first tournament event begins. The categories and prizes are as follows:Close-Quarters Melee (No Magic): Any non-projectile weapon is allowed. Iron, he knows the scent of. Blood has a distinctly iron-like smell to it because it contains iron. Enough people have been shedding blood in these matches — himself included — that it doesn't seem at all odd that iron would be in the mix of perceivable scents. Medicine, however...
He can't detect anything that registers as medicinal to him.

"That time when I ran out in a storm when I was a child," He'd mentioned that in passing before. He speaks now as if he expects that Walter still remembers, "I'd been carried back to town and the person who held me had smelled of medicine like this."
Because there's no way to describe what sort of medicine he smelled. He doesn't say who his saviour had been, but there's warmth in his voice that may be familiar from when they last spoke about Gu Yun.
CG has just given him much to think about
"I've never used herbal medicine before," he speaks, wondering. Gu Yun is the only one Walter knows of that is from the same country as Li Min. Gu Yun is also the only one Li Min speaks of with such fondness in his voice. Could the scent be something Li Min associates with Gu Yun? Is that why his friend looked as though he was expecting someone else when he approached him?
If that is the case, is Gu Yun still taking that medicine? Why? Li Min isn't eleven anymore. Is it a common remedy? Or a treatment for a chronic condition?
Even so, aside from all of that, why would he smell like medicine someone else takes, that he has never taken? He hasn't even been around Gu Yun today.
All the while he sinks into these thoughts, his gaze remains on Li Min, inadvertently staring as his mind wanders.
Have fun chewing on those thoughts, Walter.
With that, he leaves Walter to his thoughts. Once he was sure the burn was healed properly he let Walter go. "I found some work at a clinic. The man who runs it has been thinking of moving in with his daughter. He offered to let me buy it and pay it back a little each month. The prize money should be enough to cover the down payment." Up until now, the words may have seen like they came out of nowhere, but then he smiles at Walter and adds, "It's not very big and there's some work that needs to be done on it...ah, we'll also need to find more beds. But it has a working kitchen and space to grow things if you'd be fine with living with someone you've recently met."
He is Learning Things.
Once again ready to congratulate him on his achievement, Walter is then completely taken off-guard by the offer. His smile drops, lips slightly parted as his eyes go wide in bewilderment.
"...I..." He flounders, fumbling for words, for coherent thought. The transition from one place of living into another has always been a matter of necessity for him; in coming to Avalon, in moving into his master's house. Living with someone he's just met isn't new for him; moving into the family manor of his master had literally involved precisely that. To be invited to live with someone purely on his own choice with no pressing need on his part, however... that is new.
"You want me to live with you?" He'd heard that right, right?
He could help, he thinks. He has experience in household duties and in household repairs. "You're sure?"

His smile didn't change even as Walter's expression did. Surprise was something he expected, even the degree of it wasn't wholly unexpected.
It was a little endearing, honestly.
Still, there's no amusement in his eyes though his smile turns a little fond.
"There's only one bathroom but there's a working kitchen." He continues speaking in that mild way of his even though the words resemble those of a salesman. "There's also only two rooms that work as bedrooms but there's a loft that affords some privacy where a bed can be placed so we could make it work for three people. And I think...we'd both enjoy your company."

Living with friends... It sounds nice.
"...I'd like that." He speaks quietly, humble in his acceptance of the offer. "What can I do to help?"
no subject
It certainly wouldn't be the same now, what with him being older and Walter living with them as well. But different didn't have to be a bad thing. In fact, he felt it could be interesting.
"Ah, you won't need to do more than what would be expected from a housemate." Clean after yourself, help around the house and all that.

Washing dishes, doing laundry, tidying up... the list goes on and on.
"I guess that means I'll still have plenty of free time for training..."

He doesn't have a salary.
"Hahaha...ah...hah. Sparring would be nice. I could learn a thing or two about combat without the aid of magic." He takes a steadying breath, feeling a little light-headed. "And I'm sure I can think of a few ways to test your skills."
no subject
"We can learn a lot from each other, I'm sure."
no subject
He'd look forward to it anyway.
"I don't know about you, but I could use a shower." He's sweaty, and his clothes are sticking unpleasantly to his skin. He's hungry again, having worked up an appetite from all that fighting, but he has enough of a sense of propriety not to go wandering into an establishment looking like an utter wreck if it can be helped. "Perhaps we could meet up later?"
no subject
Because he saw how many competitions you signed up for and he'd be surprised if you weren't hungry after all that.
no subject
"Sounds good. I'm going to be heading off, then. I'll see you later."
With the tournament over, things are winding up with the festivities. There's not much reason for him to stick around aside from sampling the teas in the royal tea garden, which he isn't in the best state to do.
...well, maybe he can sample one cup on his way out.
"...Oh. When you're ready to go eat, ring me up and we can meet downstairs. Unless you feel the pressing urge to surprise me by stopping by my room."
Patting himself down to rid his clothes of excess sand, he flashes a cheeky smirk.
He doesn't get many visitors.
no subject
"Can it still be called a surprise when we've already agreed to meet?"
Chang Geng wasn't one for such mischief but if he did indulge he would be certain it really was completely a surprise.
"I'll see you later, Walter."
And off he goes to think deep thoughts
"Bye-bye."
As planned, he makes the short detour to the castle's royal tea garden to sample one of the teas before leaving. Though the teas supposedly have soothing effects, he doesn't much notice it on account of already being worn out and in a generally good mood to begin with. He sticks around to finish the drink quietly nonetheless, the edge of his thirst abating even though the hunger remains.
On his way out, he passes a table at which a party of three has been seated. One of the trio is dusted in glitter just as he is, the two on either side of her engaged in animated conversation over what fragrance she must be wearing, each of them convinced it is their favourites. It piques his curiosity enough that his pauses, glancing back over his shoulder as they attempt to get the glitter-dusted girl to back up their assertions.
He continues walking just as she responds, and though he does not hear it clearly, it certainly seems to dismay the other two at the table.
So, he concludes, the glitter is enchanted to smell like one's favourite fragrance.
But if that's the case, why did Li Min detect the scent of herbal medicine and iron?
......Could it be because of Gu Yun?
