Trumpets blow loudly to introduce the start of the tournament day. Everyone is invited to watch or participate. Those who would like to sign up need simply sign in for the competition they seek to join in on. Sign ups open at 8am, though you can sign up any time before the start of your competition category. There are different prizes listed for each category!
In the sign-up area before the tournaments begin, there will be a number of entertainment shows going on: Some of the fae who were invited are giving enchanted body paintings. Once the painting is finished, they will travel across your body like a living tattoo. Please be sure to specify if you would like it to be permanent or temporary, and exactly what you want-- especially if you want a permanent one.
In addition to the body painting, there will be a number of clowns playing pranks and giving out balloons that, when popped, completely cover the surrounding 5 feet in glow-in-the-dark glitter that smells of your favorite scent. Each one will smell different depending on who is smelling it. What's more is the glitter actually dissolves after 12 hours, so you don't have to worry about it never getting out of anything. Amazing!
There are additional dance shows and parades going on through the town and near the sign-up area to draw people in, and little pop-up shops with merch you can buy to support the tournament-- cool t-shirts, sunglasses, hats, keychains, and more. Don't forget to download the Tournament Bets app so you can place money on your favorites to win and make bank! Maybe save some for the tavern afterward if things don't work out, though... or before you make any decisions, check out the castles' royal tea garden, beautifully decorated in a wide variety of wintery florals, which is set up and serving a delightful medley of teas with soothing effects. Just be careful-- each table has a magic grapevine that will communicate with another table, so you may end up hearing someone else's secrets on the grapevine... or just ending up with a fun conversation if you notice it before you say something you don't want to share.
As the tournament gets underway, it starts off with all of the multiview screens taking focus on the royal viewing box. In it stands a man that we have not yet seen before, but who stands with an air of dignity. He's wearing a suit, and a crown, and looks confident despite that he has many reasons to be hesitant- he is back from the dead, after all.
 | ”"My name is Arthur Pendragon, King of Camelot. Many of you may have heard of me from your worlds I'm told, and many still may not have, but I will begin with an apology. I should have been there for those of you who arrived months ago and have been bravely pursuing this battle without leadership. I am afraid a few millennia of culture shock have thrown me off course and the Advent of the Kardashians in my studies has not helped these matters. But that is little excuse. From here on out, I will be with you in your journeys. Those who have questions of me, I will be offering an..."
Merlin's voice comes in off-camera to help him out, since he's still not sure on all the lingo, offering "AMA" to assist, then Arthur continues.
"An AMA to you all in the coming days. But for the time being, let us celebrate the wins and strides you all have made with a tournament. Those brave enough to enter, I hope to see you vying for knighthood and fighting alongside me in the days to come. For the love of Camelot!" |

Curious about what Emet-Selch is doing in the sand, he casts another light bubble over him to create a reflection, trying to see if he's building something.
His own familiar is still moving about beneath the sand, and two large watery eyes pop up next to the sketch. First one blinks, then the other, and Emet-Selch might feel something brushing against his side. The creature has a webbed paw out and is patting at Gokudera's opponent, trying to play with him, keeping most of its body still hidden.
"Larry what the fuck are you doing," The boy hisses as he makes the sandstone before him appear taller and taller, and has to move to stay under its shadow, limiting his range with his illusions so that the bubble above Emet-Selch pops, having been completely useless except for maybe its sound being a mild distraction.

There you are.
The bubble above him pops but it barely rates as a distraction. He completes his circle and immediately activates it, causing a large, hollow sandstone sphere to rapidly form around the partially hidden familiar and hopefully trap it. Hopefully - because he has no idea how nimble it may be.

Gokudera stays behind that sandstone spike, and it grows taller and taller, almost impossibly so. He's watching it to make sure when it falls, it won't land anywhere it shouldn't. If it leaves the space of their arena, he'll have to create a shield to keep bystanders out of harms way. Until then, he's just waiting, letting the only trace of himself be the pillar and the compacted sand bubbles.

The sandstone spikes don't grow indefinitely thankfully. They stop once they're roughly 1.5 times his height, hollowing out the parts of the arena where they have sprouted and thinning the sand underfoot. It makes for an interesting playing field, and thankfully this isn't one where their martial skills are being tested.
The boy's familiar may need to rethink it's hiding place though.
Up above, Emet-Selch's familiar circles, trying to spot Gokudera past the bubbles and illusions. Its master finally starts moving as well, strolling carefully between the sandstone spikes with his weapon ready to fend off the light.
"Come out, come out," he says softly. "This isn't much of a contest if you play too cautiously."

But what may give him away is a few drops of blood from where one of those spikes had shot up and scraped him well. It's nothing serious, but it'd been enough to make him bleed, and he's tracking droplets. Unfortunately for Gokudera, he's thinking only to hide his footsteps in the sand.
The familiar may be able to see him, as he's forming bubbles as he moves, and most of them will explode if Emet-Selch so much as brushes against them. It'll be more blinding flashes of light and some force, but nothing truly harmful. There are more bubbles the closer Emet-Selch gets to the boy, and his familiar is merely staying hidden, slithering about and invisible, more of an onlooker than a participant.
any preference on who wins?
The closer he gets to them though, the more bubbles there are. Despite the great care he's taking, he accidentally brushes against one and it bursts loudly. The flash of light causes him to flinch and shrink away, a glimpse of terror breaking his composure for the briefest of moments. If Gokudera is looking for an opening, this would be a good time to take advantage.
feel free to take the W if you want or flip a coin?
If he takes advantage of the opening, he wouldn’t know what to do with it. In an arena where weapons would be allowed, he’d set dynamite up and it would be a perfect trap. Instead, he’s only hiding out and hoping the impact from the bursting bubble shield will hit his foe into another one, or some sandstone. Gokudera uses the time he’s been given to set up more bubbles, trying to create some angles to strike Emet-Selch that might wear him down some.
The blood trail crosses itself, and it may appear Gokudera has followed his own steps, or he’s maybe walking in one large circle. He’s trying to create a massive collection of light shields to crumble and burst about his enemy, but before it can be fully realized, he has to focus on his timing. Constructing it is taking more energy than he expected.
I think I'll take it, esp if Gokudera is just going to keep hiding/deflecting o7
By magic it is.
He starts drawing another circle in the ground and whistles at his familiar. The gwiber dips lower as it soars by and barks. All of a sudden, the sandstone spikes rapidly begin to deform and remake themselves in haphazard forms that become a jagged, impenetrable barrier. With each bark, the area which the gwiber glides over follows suit. It's quickly apparent that this shifting stone is chasing towards Gokudera's hiding spot, towards the denser cluster of bubbles. Emet-Selch hangs back and adjusts his grip on his glass weapon, acting as a deterrent in case the boy tries to escape where he's herding them to.
In the end, if Gokudera doesn't manage to slip past him or his familiar, Emet-Selch will end up trapping him in what is effectively a sandstone cage. The very bubbles the boy uses hide what he's planning until the stone closes in and he has nowhere left to run.
/puts a bow on it for ya
The barking of the man's familiar is alarming, and Gokudera moves away from those spikes as they start to reappear, but as they jut up, he's blocked, unable to go further. He looks down, wondering why his own familiar isn't helping him.
Larry appears...
to be taking a nap and ignoring the battle. The bubbles still linger, and Gokudera makes himself visible finally, eyeing the cage and trying to catch his breath. Well, this hasn't worked out the way he'd hoped. He's never faced magic like this before. There is still plenty of light to work with, but he's exhausted himself trying to maintain invisibility.
rip Dera's familiar, god
He quickly sketches another circle and shorter spikes rise out of the ground to surround Gokudera threateningly with the implication that they could impale him at any time.
It's at this point Emet-Selch raises his voice, calling out to them. "Do you yield yet, boy?"
no subject
The sudden spikes surrounding him come too close for comfort, and he's already bloodied from one lucky hit, so he stills, glaring at Larry from over his opponent's shoulder. He's seen nearly every other person in these tournaments able to rely on the help of their familiars. Why is his so useless?!
"What the fuck else would I even do?!" He calls back. This isn't a battle for him to prove himself as the Vongola Tenth's right-hand man. It means more he keeps himself as safe as possible, especially since all of the trouble he's been facing outside of this event.
no subject
"You are unhurt, yes?" Emet-Selch asks once the young man is within earshot. He extends a hand towards them. "That was an interesting fight. Thank you."
no subject
"Just scratches," Gokudera replies and steps out carefully, eyeing the stone structures, then the man offering his hand. He takes it in a firm shake. "I've never seen magic like yours. It was interesting."
no subject
His gwiber paws at the sand, flattening itself to the ground in a vain attempt to mimic Lariosauro.
Emet-Selch continues, "Where I am from, Light is not used to cast illusions like yours. If you can find a way to make those bubbles of yours pop with greater force, you could disorient your opponents."
no subject
"I've seen alchemy, but never in a situation like that." Impressive, he thinks.
Larry blinks and watches, sliding webbed paws under the sand and pushing its body back to give the gwiber more room.
"I can make barriers, but I like the idea of bending like. As for the force, usually I combine my explosives with those bubbles. Eventually, I'll build up my own magic to the point where I won't need those, but it is a great idea." He's also utilized some flashbangs when he's been pinned in close combat.
no subject
"Indeed. The more options you have, the better prepared you'll be for any fight." Which he doesn't mean to sound condescending. Emet-Selch knows he has to expand his own repertoire of spells as well so as not to be caught in the midst of drawing new designs.
They're being ushered off the field now though. He starts to turn away, raising his hand in farewell.
"Good luck with your learning. Mayhap if they hold this tournament again next year, we can see how much the other has improved," he says with a faint smirk.
His familiar, which had been in the process of burying itself in the sand, perks up when it sees him leaving. Shaking off the sand, it bounds after him, wings beating to lift it back into the air.
