Trumpets blow loudly to introduce the start of the tournament day. Everyone is invited to watch or participate. Those who would like to sign up need simply sign in for the competition they seek to join in on. Sign ups open at 8am, though you can sign up any time before the start of your competition category. There are different prizes listed for each category!
In the sign-up area before the tournaments begin, there will be a number of entertainment shows going on: Some of the fae who were invited are giving enchanted body paintings. Once the painting is finished, they will travel across your body like a living tattoo. Please be sure to specify if you would like it to be permanent or temporary, and exactly what you want-- especially if you want a permanent one.
In addition to the body painting, there will be a number of clowns playing pranks and giving out balloons that, when popped, completely cover the surrounding 5 feet in glow-in-the-dark glitter that smells of your favorite scent. Each one will smell different depending on who is smelling it. What's more is the glitter actually dissolves after 12 hours, so you don't have to worry about it never getting out of anything. Amazing!
There are additional dance shows and parades going on through the town and near the sign-up area to draw people in, and little pop-up shops with merch you can buy to support the tournament-- cool t-shirts, sunglasses, hats, keychains, and more. Don't forget to download the Tournament Bets app so you can place money on your favorites to win and make bank! Maybe save some for the tavern afterward if things don't work out, though... or before you make any decisions, check out the castles' royal tea garden, beautifully decorated in a wide variety of wintery florals, which is set up and serving a delightful medley of teas with soothing effects. Just be careful-- each table has a magic grapevine that will communicate with another table, so you may end up hearing someone else's secrets on the grapevine... or just ending up with a fun conversation if you notice it before you say something you don't want to share.
As the tournament gets underway, it starts off with all of the multiview screens taking focus on the royal viewing box. In it stands a man that we have not yet seen before, but who stands with an air of dignity. He's wearing a suit, and a crown, and looks confident despite that he has many reasons to be hesitant- he is back from the dead, after all.
 | ”"My name is Arthur Pendragon, King of Camelot. Many of you may have heard of me from your worlds I'm told, and many still may not have, but I will begin with an apology. I should have been there for those of you who arrived months ago and have been bravely pursuing this battle without leadership. I am afraid a few millennia of culture shock have thrown me off course and the Advent of the Kardashians in my studies has not helped these matters. But that is little excuse. From here on out, I will be with you in your journeys. Those who have questions of me, I will be offering an..."
Merlin's voice comes in off-camera to help him out, since he's still not sure on all the lingo, offering "AMA" to assist, then Arthur continues.
"An AMA to you all in the coming days. But for the time being, let us celebrate the wins and strides you all have made with a tournament. Those brave enough to enter, I hope to see you vying for knighthood and fighting alongside me in the days to come. For the love of Camelot!" |

III
Yes, let's... I look forward to this.
[There was something a little nostalgic for her about this match. After all, her father had been a Magus, and this stranger had the same regal demeanour as he had, back then.
...Well. She'd try not to let it distract her. If anything, just for a little while, she could just enjoy that comfortable familiarity, for whatever pain it brought her later.]

For his first strike, Regis decides to wield ice. While he studied how to control all the elements, he's most comfortable between ice and lightning. The temperature within the arena suddenly starts to plummet as a frosty white mist suddenly forms all around them. With just the snap of his fingers, icy sharp pillars suddenly rise from the ground towards his opponent. As for Tonitrus, the familiar's eyes start to glow as it summons forth a flurry of snow and ice to pelt the arena below.]

Scrutiny, suspicion, hostility.
She wore those emotions that were thrown at her like the shadows she now conjured to conceal her body - it would, she hoped, throw his aim off. As the cold set in, her breath became like white steam- but no, she couldn't focus on the cold.
With the call of an incantation in another language, she darted to one side to evade the pillars sent her darkness out toward him, trying to weigh his body down with a curse.]

In mid casting, Regis suddenly switches from ice to lightning in just a single breath. The air is suddenly heavy with static as several lightning bolts crash down from above with enough force to crack the jagged icy pillars Regis formed a moment ago. He keeps casting lightning upon her, hoping to interrupt the caster's flow of magic with every bolt. His familiar flows suit by quickly casting a few bolts of lightning in unison with him.]

No, no she needed to focus.
With a flick of her wrist upward, she hoped she could coax the darkness to creep its way further- if she could block his sight, even temporarily, that would give her a chance to strike!]

Tonitrus mimics the same lightning spell cast earlier in an attempt to strike down the sorceress to free its master. The fiend keeps casting lightning consecutively on Regis's behalf. While the old king can't see anything, he knows that Tonitrus can see her since the thunderbird is hovering above the arena.]

It was a risky move, but it felt like the best choice.
As she moved, she left a trail of dark magic behind her, hoping to cloak her path and confuse or distract the familiar - or at least throw off its aim. She'd already been hit by a few of its spells, and with her defences poor as they were, a couple more well aimed spells would be enough to take her down.
She twisted her grip, trying to turn the darkness inward again. She'd not tried to cause pain like that before so she wasn't sure it would work, but if she could just distract him a moment-]

While the beast should be concerned about its master's wellbeing, the creature seems oddly reassured. The bond between a master and a familiar is frustrating at times but it doesn't come without its perks. In this particular case, telepathy is involved along with some blind faith on both their parts.
As his familiar keeps casting lightning spells, Regis struggles to find a way out of this bleak darkness. He switches elements and summons forth a blazing inferno seemingly out of nowhere in hopes of shedding some light. Red-orange flames suddenly surround the entire arena causing the temperature to rise drastically as Regis attempts to eradicate the darkness.
Tonitrus lets out a nosy squawk once the flames appear and quickly shifts from lightning to fire to match with his master's element. While fire isn't its strong suit, the familiar is quick to summon a few embers.]

[Caster's eyes grew wide as she noticed that rather than being able to avoid the strikes more easily, they were actually getting more accurate the closer she got- the Sorceress hissed in pain as a bolt slammed past her arm and side, leaving burns in it's wake.
And then the flames began, blasting away the shadows and leaving her exposed for just a moment.
Caster called her darkness together to rise back up and try to bind the familiar itself as she had used in the last tournament- if she could bring it down upon it's master she might save herself from another direct attack!]

He only had mere seconds to spare in order to avoid the collision but instead of attempting to do just that, Regis switches elements and summons forth the howling winds to push Tonitrus away from him and over towards where he assumes the witch lingers. While he knows that the thunderbird could handle a rough than usual landing, he doubts his opponent could. However, he somewhat balks at the thought of accidentally crushing her. Tonitrus isn't as monstrous in size as others of its kind but the feathery-lizard isn't exactly light.]

Caster tried to rush back, but the creature was huge and she ended up dodging awkwardly to the side - it didn't break the shadows she'd conjured, but it was enough to make her stagger and lose her balance.
She couldn't lose this chance whilst the familiar was distracted- so even as she found herself losing her footing and falling, she called a curse to her hand and sent it Regis' way. If he'd gotten any injuries so far that day, it would hopefully reduce his body's resistance to the pain, temporarily.
Regardless, from her position, there was only so much longer her stamina would hold out.]

Dozens of red hot flames suddenly shoot up out of nowhere in frightening pillars of fire. He warps them into various shapes, crafting them into mock little fiery arrows that rain down upon his opponent like rain. He keeps summoning more and more until the pain within his chest becomes too great to ignore.
Regis lets out a shaky breath as he attempts to use the remaining flames to force the shadows away. He has no idea how to undo this curse but maybe if he could make these shadows recede, he'll have a fighting chance.]

Then she saw the arrows.
Her eyes grew wide as she desperately pulled the shadows back, and they erupted around her to try and act as a makeshift shield. She held up her cloak, too, to try and catch them as they fell but there were too many and spread too wide.]
Ahh...!
[Caster let out a scream as she found the arrows of fire raining down upon her, breaking through the darkness she was using as a shield before she could move out of his range.
And that barrage was enough to make the cloaked figure crumple to the ground.
By the time Regis had thrown the last of his flames at the shadows, the previously ineffective fire suddenly cut through them like butter, and the curses started to ebb away.]
I...I yield...
[There wasn't much strength in her voice, but even if that call wasn't heard, she didn't look like she was in any state to continue.
It was frustrating, being overpowered by another in magic like this, but endurance was never her forte. And right now, everything hurt.
...why was it always a barrage like that?]
