[Barbara doesn't question why people would live so near a place called "The Land of Rot." People will try to live anywhere. Is it a good idea? Probably not. But that doesn't mean orcs get to exploit them.

Barbara a knight and she knows how to fight. But, Barbara is also aware that she as about as not good at talking to people as she is good at battlecraft, which is why she asked Tifa to help her actually teach the villagers.

Now it's time for their training to pay off. Night is approaching, and they're awaiting the attack behind wooden barricades, backed up by tripwires and other booby traps, ready to unleash slings and spears and arrows when the raiders turn up--which if they hold to the pattern, they will soon.]

Tifa ready?

[The two of them have done all they can to teach, and now it was time to see where their lessons got them. The people were more than willing to learn, which made their jobs much easier in the end, and many—especially the younger ones—had taken a liking to Barbara after she was able to show them how to swing a spear. It was nice to see that they were so willing and ready to defend their home, and now they were here, fighting alongside the pair.

Tifa has just returned to her position next to Barbara after checking in on some of the villagers, making sure that they had been equipped with the proper weapons and armour before they were led into the frays of battle... And when Barbara asks, Tifa confirms with a nod.]

Never been more ready. Let's smash some orcs.

[There's a roar off in the distance, and sure... she was prepared and raring to go, but there are a few eager villagers who take the lead, charging in at thee first sign of trouble with their weapons high and their battle cries higher...]

[Barbara nods, and a grin spreads over her face when she hears the sound of battle in the distance. It's taken time to show the villagers the value of aggression and offense, and satisfying to hear that some of them have learned the lesson well. It's a bit premature, but if they're going to fight, it might as well be now.

Normally Barbara might do something dramatic like jump straight into the fray, but she's been given to understand that's a little too startling. So she plunges forward on foot, trusting that Tifa will follow her lead.]

Careful! Remember friends!

[She joins the first hotheads, who are getting too far from the others, swinging her spear in a wide arc to keep the orcs back for another crucial few seconds.]

[Tifa's a bit stunned to see Barbara jump into the fray with those taking the lead, but all she can really do is laugh, amused, at it all. If there were ever a good person to partner with, it was someone who enjoyed a good fight. It just meant that they would balance each other out well in a fight.

She doesn't follow right away, but stays behind for a moment with those who are more hesitant to jump in.]

Just remember what you learned. It's okay if you need to retreat to breathe, but just remember to keep centered and focused.

[Those words, she hopes, will inspire those to find their will to fight. The ones up ahead don't need it.

And with that, she leads the rest of them in, coming up beside Barbara to sweep an orc coming up behind her back with a kick just in time.]

[Barbara catches the movement from the corner of her eye and turns enough to see the orc crash to the ground, courtesy of Tifa.]

Good kick. [she raises her voice, good time for a reminder to the villagers.] Watch backs!

[She can see some of the villagers aren't too sure about battle now that they're in one. But if they can at least keep their eyes open and keep their bolder companions from getting ambushed, that will help.]

[Now that Tifa has had a taste of the fight, she becomes bolder, and perhaps a little more reckless. What has she got to lose right now anyway? This world has already taken plenty from her, and so it was about time she paid that forward, right?

With a grin at Barbara, she rushes in further, disappearing into the field of incoming orcs, and from there, there's an eruption of fire from the ground larger than any spell Tifa has ever been able to conjure up until now. And hopefully Barbara is ready for it, because there's about to be dirt and sand everywhere—so much that some of those on the front lines have to duck and take cover from the heat of the flames.]
