[closed] dreams of love
🧙 WHO: Monika & Minako
⚔️️ WHAT: Monika confesses her crush! Will it go well? Will it go poorly? No soul in Avalon knows!
đź•’ WHEN: December 31st, 23:50
🗺️ WHERE: Camelot
⚠️ WARNINGS: N/A
Today was the day. Monika was standing atop one of Camelot's towers. In ten minutes, a new year would bloom. All over the island, people of all kinds were celebrating— All bearing in their heart the same hope that what awaited them in the coming year was better than what they had gone through so far. If there was any moment to take a step forward, to engage in with a better future and let go of the past— It was now. She wondered if there'd be fireworks... Probably, why wouldn't there be any?
Of course, she wasn't standing there all alone for no reason. She had planned to confess to her crush— Something she had carefully considered, rather than rushing in headfirst as she had before. And in preparation for that, she had rehearsed over and over. She had carefully chosen her words... All of which would be for naught as she would start improvising when under stress. Because what could be more stressful than asking someone if they shared your feelings? Than asking someone to be a part of your life for the foreseeable future, maybe for life?
For that occasion, she had asked Minako if she could come. After the failures with the player and Kipposhi she needed moral support, someone who would be there to give her a pep talk. Or at least, that was the excuse she had given other girl. What she hadn't revealed was that she was her crush. So obviously? Upon arriving at the top of the tower, Minako would find Monika and no one else.
Was her "crush" late? Or maybe she had been stood up? Considering what her luck had been like so far, it wouldn't be very surprising... She was dressed elegantly with a cute dress, though nothing as extravagant as what she had worn during the party a couple weeks back. She was the picture of confidence, prepared as she was. Whether or not this would last remained to be seen. But for now, she was simply looking up at the moon, smiling to herself.

Though Minako's eyes are still watery, she raises her gaze, looking directly over at the other girl. She can feel Monika's hand in her own, warmer than the cold air around them. There's so many thoughts in Minako's mind, so many feelings in her heart, and they battle each other. They always do, and she knows it.
But she's always let her thoughts win out in the end. She has always locked her heart away behind bars, just because it felt like the only right thing to do. Because it would be okay as long as everyone else was happy, even if she wasn't. She could convince herself that she'd be happy anyway.
But.. in this case.. what if she just went for it? Just once? If she tried to reach out, and hold something that would make her happy..
"Monika-chan.. There hasn't been a single moment around you when I haven't been happy." That much she knows. It's an objective fact. Even when she felt bad for the other, she was glad that she could help Monika a little. All the moments they spent together, the fun they had, the tough moments.. there wasn't ever a single moment she regretted spending with the other girl.
"I just.. you know me." Minako looks a little shy as she says it. "I worry a lot about everything."
Like that prophecy she got. That she'd be unlucky in love forever. What if that's still valid? What if, through accepting Monika, she hurts the other girl?
(But what if she'd just try harder to protect Monika from such a fate instead?)
"But I cherish you. I'm so glad to have met you here. I'd love to see you smile your pretty smile every single day.. Monika-chan, I.." Oh gosh. It's so scary to say. Like going over a fence she never dared to cross. But if she takes that leap now, then-- ".. I love you too. Sorry.. that I'm such a big dummy who denied herself that all this time.. I won't do that anymore now."
Her heart is pounding in her throat. Her eyes are still glassy, but they're not sad tears.
They're happy ones.
"I know you were the one confessing, but.. it just doesn't feel right if I'm not saying it, you know!" Because Monika is so amazing. And so brave. If she took the courage to say all of this, to confess, then Minako should do the same, right? "Would you do me the honour of being my girlfriend, Monika-chan?"

But the worst possible outcome didn't come. Instead, she couldn't believe what she heard. Monika was dumbfounded for a moment, blinking incredulously, mouth agape. Minako... She accepted her. She returned her love. Why, she was the one confessing now, asking her to be her girlfriend. For them to have a future together. She remained silent, absolutely stunned as she processed the information— As if she couldn't believe what she was hearing.
And then, she erupted in tears. Not tears of sorrow— But of true happiness. Monika let go of the other girl's hands and covered her face with her hands. For how prepared she had been to face rejection, she was now overwhelmed by emotions. She'd planned to smile and say everything was fine, should Minako have said no. Keep up the facade so as to not make her feel bad about her choice. She'd hoped so much for this happiest of outcome to be the one, and yet she had barely prepared for it.
"I-I'm sorry..."
She remembered when she had realized the nature of her world. When the cruel reality of her simulated world had unraveled before her very eyes. A world about love where she wasn't allowed to love. A world where she had no future. She was just to "exist" within this game until her creator or the player decided to shut it down or delete it.
But no more. She had defied that fate... And the one who was giving her the strength to do so was defying her own fate, too. She tried wiping her tears away, taking a deep breath as she looked down. Gosh, her dream was coming true and she was bawling like a baby. What a girlfriend she was making.
"I hadn't dared hoping you would..."
Say yes. And say it in such a beautiful way. She smiled brightly, tears still rolling down. She couldn't remember having ever felt that way. She was crying, yet she wanted to laugh at the same time. She could feel the weight of all the horror she had endured since her creation, yet she had never felt happier in her entire life.
Only love could make someone feel so many feelings at once. But she had yet to give her answer, hadn't she? She looked back up, smiling at Minako through the tears.
"Yes... A thousand times yes...! The honor— It-it is all mine."

Minako reaches out with that same smile, her hands landing on Monika's cheeks. Her thumbs gently stroking the skin, trying to wipe some of the tears away, even if new ones might still be coming.
"Don't be silly.. Didn't I tell you already that there's no way anyone could turn down a girl like you?" Granted, at the time Minako had meant that in general, being unable to imagine whoever Monika was about to confess to turning her down.
But.. she supposes it works in this case as well. Because she proved her own point right, without intending to do so. Minako couldn't think of rejecting the other girl, not even for a moment. Not even with the things that were holding her back. Crushing Monika's heart, when she instead could love it.. It was never an option.
Minako looks at the other girl's face. Now lit by the light of the fireworks overhead, the sound of them popping in the air almost sounding weirdly distant, like it's an entire world away. Like all her attention in this moment is just focused on Monika, and the way the other girl has such a strange way of making her heart beat faster, making the feelings inside of her chest feeling all weirdly warm and squishy.
".. Monika," Minako says, slowly.
After all, it's not like there's a need to stick to the honorific at this point.
"May I kiss you?"
Honestly, she already knows the answer when Monika is looking this happy, but.. Minako wants to give the other girl the chance to say yes. And it's a little romantic, isn't it? If not just for the joy of knowing that she can get this whenever she wants from Minako now.

And to see Minako so happy? It made the wait all worth it.
The fireworks... The new year had begun. And it had done so in the most beautiful way imaginable. It was really the perfect picture of a romantic declaration, wasn't it? Perfect night sky, atop a tower, celebrations in the background.
There was so much she wanted to say. So many thoughts, emotions and feelings she wanted to express. She wanted Minako to know how happy she had made her, how much all of this meant to her. She wanted Minako to know how precious she was and how much she loved her. From that day when they had first met because of Merlin's silly quest. She'd done that quest for the only reason that maybe someday, the spell would help her find love. And it had done just that, hadn't it? The spell had never been used, but that quest had led to their meeting. To the moments they'd shared together.
Yet, for how good Monika was when it came to writing, all words escaped her. As if words couldn't possibly capture the essence of what she was feeling. And what good were words, when a kiss would say it all? She giggled at Minako's question.
"Ahaha..." She leaned forward, her lips brushing against the other girl's. "Do you even need to ask?"

So she doesn't waste time. Still holding onto Monika's face gently with her hands, she moves in closer, now fully pushing their lips against each other. The fireworks are still continuing, but just for this moment, it's like nothing about the outside world exists.
Because she can feel it again. That same feeling in her chest as last time they kissed, but now she gets it. Maybe even stronger, because this time she isn't just kissing a friend in what she thought to be an attempt to get her to feel better, to give her a good experience among all the bad ones. This time Minako is kissing someone she loves, someone whose smile and heart she wants to protect so badly.
Minako doesn't pull away as quickly this time either. Instead she lingers there, fingertips lightly brushing against Monika's cheeks.

She took Minako's free hand with her own, interlacing their fingers. When the kiss finally ended, she remained close. More tears were rolling down her cheeks, but it made no doubt those were born from happiness.
"Minako..."
She squeezed her hand and opened her eyes anew, staring at her lovingly.
"Together, we'll write the happy ending our realities denied us." Both in their own ways had been told love wasn't to be. But no more. "I won't let anyone ever tell you to renounce your dreams again. No matter what it takes, I promise to show you real happiness."
no subject
"S-Sheesh, Monika.."
There's just something about it that hits Minako right in her heart. It's a little weird. She's so used to taking care of others, to putting herself in the very last place, that Minako isn't entirely used to something like this. Someone grabbing her from the back and pulling her to the front. Someone making it so clear that she is their priority - and basically vowing to protect her heart.
All while Minako usually fancies herself the protector of everything and everyone.
"You've got to be the most romantic person I've ever met." As she says that, she finally dares to look back at the other, even though her cheeks still betray her flustered state. She squeezes the other's hands while Monika is still holding them. "But.. that's something I really like about you."
After all, Minako is all for this. This overwhelming sort of romance. The feeling of giving your entire heart to someone, and saying the sappiest possible things.
"So don't worry.. when we leave this place, I'll take you home with me. I won't let you go back to that sad game." Who knows if that will even be possible once it is time for them to leave Avalon.. But Minako knows that even if there won't be a way, she will make one herself. She refuses to let things be otherwise, given what Monika would be returning to without that.
no subject
Yet, she looked down for a moment at something she'd mentioned. That sad game, not going back to it... She hadn't told Minako just yet, had she? That back home she was... Dead. And honestly, going back to being dead would be by far preferable to going back to the game.
Of course, desperate as she was to never return and preferably not die, she'd reached out where she could already. Morgan had told her that as a last resort, he would try plucking her from her reality should she be sent back. Even King Arthur had promised to do his utmost so she could stay in Avalon rather than return.
But to speak of this now or even of her death... No, the moment was too beautiful for her to even consider the thought.
"I don't doubt it for a second." She smiled with a nod. "I feel together, we can make miracles into reality."
It was cheesy but it was also true. Clearly the way existed, as they had been summoned to this world in the first place. And love was a wonderful thing. If anything could make miracles come true, that was it, wasn't it? She turned to look at the fireworks, still holding Minako's hand.
"Yes, reality... A world of infinite possibilities." She mused as she looked at the sky. "It's beautiful, isn't it?"

And though she silently watches them, a smile on her face as the exploding firework dyes their faces in so many different colours of light, she then leans over towards Monika a little, letting her head rest sideways against the side of the other girl's head. It's a light touch - playful, almost, but loving in its own way.
"I think this is the part where I say 'what, you or the fireworks?', right?"
She's smiling as she says it, and she may or may not be starting to swing their held hands back and forth a little.
It's so weird. All of this - the very idea of it had felt so difficult.
But now it's actually happening? It suddenly all feels so.. easy.
no subject
But even if something would happen someday, she wasn't about to give that possibility any more thoughts.
"Ahaha~!"
She blushed and laughed at Minako's words, following the swing of their hand and closing her eyes. It was so nice, being with someone who loved you, whom you loved. Someone whose life was more important than your own. She took a breath, tilting her head and lighting resting it against Minako's.
And she didn't say anything else, just enjoying the moment with her. Why were words needed, when the emotions they both felt were speaking for themselves?
no subject
The physical touch they share through their joint hands. Through that head resting against her own.
The steady thrum of her beating heart inside of her chest.
Even though Minako is a natural chatterbox, it seems like even she is so overwhelmed by this moment that she doesn't need to speak. Instead she just stands there, enjoying the moment quietly right alongside Monika.
.. she could get used to this.
